so I can’t make the point that having to watch and record longer episodes for SpreadSheet can be an issue……BUT YOU can complain about simply watching longer episodes?

NYPaD (insert the no longer available Julius’ doucherolle staff picture)

  • Waits

You forgot to mention Stevie Ray Vaughan, eh?

  • Anonymous

No, I was just stopping at 5….I could haved names 20 more. He was on my mind but Slash came into mind first. But yes, he is one of the BEST EVER. Actually I would have picked him over Hendrix as I really didn’t listen to Jimi boy all that much but hey, he’s gotta be up there so. I can go on and on with the top 25 but didn’t want to elaborate here.

  • Waits

I knew you knew man, cool enough. Jimi will always get mentioned anyways. How do you even pick a top 5? impossible, for sure!

    I play a great air-guitar myself!!! ; )

    Peace!

  • Waits

    Sookie Sookie, ha ha Billy

    ; )

  • Hi Mike- What kind of guitar do you have? I like some of the Pensfolds wines. I think it was Koonunga Hill Shiraz/Cabernet blend that I liked. -Billy

  • I love all that era of music bobbytiger….especially rockabilly. What year Strat did you have and what amp? Some Harmony’s are really cool like the Rocket models.

The second one was better for me but had a little too much oak. -Billy

  • Cool pbarr..! Which model Martin? I had a really cool 1957 00018 I should have never sold….!! I have two really nice Larrivee acoustics but I’m totally intrigued with the Voyage-Air guitars……they fold in half for travel!!!

  • Waits

If you ever High-Roll, it’s Grange time!

  • What kind of guitar are you playing these days? I had some really cool Tele’s that I played through brown and blackface Fender’s during the 80’s…never had a rack!

  • I had a few Les Paul’s through the years but I always came back to the Telecaster…. I was lucky enough to have worked on some vintage 1959 bursts. They are amazing guitars to say the least… They were not as expensive back then. I think the high end was only about $200k at the time. Right before the economy slowed down I heard of prices close to $500k…!!

Gary said it best…..wine was a slow burn for me. I started out enjoying it with meals and just kinda got hooked. I believe I had a shiraz from Africa while we were doing a fly-gig to Bermuda about 2 years ago. I wrote down the name but lost it somewhere. It was very good from what I remember…

  • Thanks for the kind words Dan! I would actually like to try the Beatles Rock Band. A good friend of mine (who plays guitar) bought it for his son..I should at least check it out and try it!!

Cool on the wine shopping. I had my 5 year old daughter with me and I let her pick out a wine for me. She liked the label and it was literally like $5.00…. It was just no good. I always like to find the good side of everything in life but could not find it with that wine. Of course I told her that it was the best ever……..kids!!

  • Santa Cruz makes a nice guitar! I practiced a bit of banjo and had it going pretty good but I hated the finger-picks. I do play lapsteel and use a flat pick with my finger nails…. i could never get used to those darn finger picks.

I will try Malbecs…I do not think I have tried it yet. Thank you.

  • Do you still play?? I tried a few sparkling wines but do not love them. I just stick to the reds.

  • First time I saw Sniffy Sniff McGee I thought it was THE funniest thing I ever heard Gary say. It was a total laugh!!! It was an absolute pleasure to be on the show and I am very thankful to Gary….! He has been a great inspiration to me and his book Crush It rocks!!!

  • What year is your horn? My sax player has a Selmer Mark VI I believe (not 100% sure of the number). It’s a 50s or 60s model…looks like a beat up ’53 Tele but sounds unreal.

I was stuck on Hahn merlot for a while. I liked it because to me it had a tomato/green pepper and black pepper taste to it. I need to take some notes or keep labels of some of the better ones that I like.

  • Cool man….nice to meet you!! Those are some heavy players you mentioned….. Van Halen changed the game and set the bar back in the 80s imo. Nobody but nobody was playing like him. After guitar players saw him for the first time it was like the guitar world stood still and then everyone was shedding his style. I could NEVER get that down….ever. ROCK!!!!

  • Thanks for the kind words!! I have been playing for about 35 years and made my living in one fashion or another with the guitar. It is almost like a second nature thing by now. The guitar is easy to learn and you can be playing in no time at all. Its fun, relaxing and a great way to express yourself I find. -Billy

I hear ya. I can play Eruption and a few other songs but it’s hard now for me not being a PLAYER as they say. It was easy back then but when you don’t play a few hours a day you get rusty…..untill you plug into a Bogner or a stack of Marshalls….then it all seems to flow real easy….lol

So what wines are you into Bill..?

  • So I'm third?

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

  • NY Pete

27 minutes … frak … have to watch it later

  • hinrgman

    Nice wine rack

  • Sorry about the wines in this episode.
Here, a contribution to the jerky song πŸ˜€
Even I have played Guitar Hero and I'm 48 year old fart….

    I don't like the jerky
    I miss the real beef
    I doesn't make me perky
    It taste like leaf

I'm nota jerky man, I'm a guitar playing hand

QOTD: Don't play the guitar, wish I could. I drink all kinds of wine, white, rose, red, dessert…

  • mattgmann

what a coincidence, I'm drinking the same garnacha right now

  • lordsauvignon

I just broke open a bottle myself

  • zHeadless

Awesome guitar skills. Just impressive how you can just do that and it seems that easy.

QOTD : Don't play guitar so I guess I can't answer the question, boo.

  • BrettFavre

    awesome idea…

  • mattgmann

I'm gonna finish off this garnacha and move on the the PBR. Buckeye basketball tonight….closing out the regular season with Illinois. Scored some tickets last minute.

BTW….not impressed with this garnacha…..figure I'll chime in since I'm actually drinking the exact same wine. Weak on the nose, no mid palate, kind of watery. Not offensive, just not good. Muted, one dimensional…..house wife wine.

  • Top 10!

  • Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!! maybe?

  • Whatever happend to the “Big-Ass-Glass” ?

  • winecrazy

    OH!!!!!! TOP 15……NIce!!!!!!!

  • Apple? Must be a Red Delisious then ; )

  • laurieinvt

Hey, now! watch the house wife comments! Given that you're moving on to PBR, I should consider the source… πŸ˜‰

  • mattgmann

qotd: Not a guitar player, but I am a saxophonist. Thus, there is no wine drinking while playing. I can only imagine coating the inside of my king super 20 with spit-thinned cabernet.

I'm all over in my general wine tastes, but day in day out I return to lots of grenache based wines. Whether they be cotes du rhone, priorats, or anything inbetween. I'm sure I'll burn out of this rut eventually and move on. I've been drinking more and more whites lately, as well as trying to find nice budget merlots (without any luck)

  • Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!! definitely!!!!!!!

  • mattgmann

no offense meant….just that stereotypical ho-hum easy drinking, not much in the flavor department type wine.

Hey, I'm sure it'd be nice to drink great wine all the time. But I wouldn't do it if it meant giving up the my old comforting friend Pabst.

  • laurieinvt

Billy seems really cool. He asked good questions and held up well to your oak rant, too. πŸ™‚
Wow, even I have played Guitar Hero! But not the real deal, so no QOTD answer from me.

  • laurieinvt

's ok! I'm picking on you- my oldest son drinks PBR, and he played sax too! Hmmm, there's a correlation here…

  • We love to play Rock Band 2 on the Wii. I (Andy) play drums and Edie sings. We have never played a guitar so I guess for the question of the day we have been “…pooh poohed” on as you say. Really liked having Billy on the show, seemed like a very nice and cool guy with awesome skills on the guitar! Seems like he would be a very real and interesting person to hang out with. Also liked the way he shops which more of us should try to do. Great job guys!

  • carlo10

    hey there…where have you been?

  • How cool would it be to hang with these guys…
WIsh I never stopped playing guitar, I want to play and have a glass of wine now…
Failing that I'm just going to settle for a glass of wine lol.

  • Oh yeah, also loved the fact he brought up “Sniffy Sniff MgGee”, awesome stuff! We have been waiting for the …MgGee for a while now πŸ™‚

  • Nope you were first it appears! Lucky man ; )

  • LOL

  • I was in a band and played bass and backup drums when in I was in college, we called ourselves “Mies and the Van Der Rohes” (the architecture thing after all), played mostly cover songs and we had tee shirts and a following and everything… we broke up of course (good times).

Generally speaking I like Garnachas, they're great with Chistorra and pinchos.

QOTD: I would say a tie between sparkling and red wines, for me at least.

  • Hey man, who's it going…? drinking a bit of chile tonite myself. Oh it's only a Santa Rita 120 CCC blend, it's OK, one-dimensional for sure.

  • Side question for Gary: Have you ever thought about having Wesley Walker on the show? I guess he's a teacher now. That would be so cool and you would have to rate one of the wines 85 points and have Mott zoom in on Wesley Walker himself πŸ™‚

  • “I've been everywhere man….” a bit of J. Cash for you, well Hank Snow actually…

    ; )

    Beat you again!!! sorry
