    ROOOOOOOOOOCK & ROOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL, YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW!!!!!!!!!

  • This could be good…. who's you favourite Sax player?

  • I knew this would happen….. Love u man! ; )

  • Lb_in_KS

qotd….I play a Santa Cruz guitar… learning to play clawhammer style banjo, and like Malbecs, Shiraz/Syrah, and Riesling.

  • Damn it!

I thought for sure that Mr. V was gonna play some guitar for us… ; )

  • And now i'm first!!! Hehe

  • mattgmann

I've got a bottle of santa rita 120 cab sitting on the counter due to become part of a pot roast tomorrow.

I'm drinking a fine low cost beverage from pabst atm waiting to leave for the bball game. late start at 9pm tonight.

  • carlo10

QOTD: not a player…just got poo pooed on

  • mattgmann

Ugh….that's tough; I listen to a lot of different stuff. It's gonna be a toss-up between Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins and of course John Coltrane. All big names, but for a reason. On the modern side Joshua Redman, James Carter, and Chris Potter come to mind.

  • Billy, thanks for jammin' a bit there…good stuff!. I actually recognized a few of the names your threw out there. Kind of a meh showing for the wines. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are worth the try (I find RB way easier), though I feel playing some of the songs on an actual guitar are WAY easier than playing in the game on the higher levels.

QOTD: I used to play a little…though my dad plays about an hour a day as well. We both shop the same as you…6 core, 6 tasting.

  • QOTD: I'm a Guitar Guy. I have a Washburn D-122S and a Les Paul Standard. It was the 1998 Stags Leap Petite Sirah that got me hooked on Wine. I love Spice. Drank before that but Stags Leap made me want to explore everything thats out there, much like my taste in music. I like it all.

  • missatiejacket

good episode. I liked the guitar playing in there. This guest seems like a good guy, and I didn't mind having him there, but I prefer the guests who are REALLY into wine (more than him — in the business, etc). I think, Gary, that you can't resist someone who is trying to promote themself, but sometimes maybe you should.

  • Jenny

First time watching but loved the energy and the low down on the cabernet.

  • Well mine is not exactly the same, it's a Carménère, Cab Franc, Cab S blend, but ok.

  • guymandude

Been playing guitar for a bunch a years, did the whole band thing back in the 80's.

Guitar players are like wines, a lot of different styles.

  • I like the old ones. Dexter Gordon's “Our man in Paris” is killer stuff. Well “Saxophone Collossus”, what can you say? Blue Seven is AWESOME. Max Roach… explosive! Coltrane is probably my favourite, A Love Supreme is the greatest album ever made!?!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome guest, and fun show

sorry i don't play guitar anymore

  • Vay-ku

    I don't play guitar.
    Waiting for Wine Taste Hero.
    Diddy says, “Yeah, Yeah.”

  • pbarr

GV, Great show. I loved the Billy jam…nice touch. Johnny Cash is (was) a stud.

QOTD: I play a Martin a bit… big fan of Barolos and Bordeaux.

  • bobbytiger

    Love the guitar.
Played through high school and college with a Fender Stratacaster, (not like your guest or anything), back in the 50's and 60's, when music was music. R & B and R & R. Nothing like it. Playing a woosie Harmony now.
Sorry about the ho-hum wines. But, the second one worked for Billy, and for him, that's fine.
    Overall, nice show. Thanks Gary.

  • Gary!

One quick thought, I think you need to try new things, on the music front!

  • Are you a fan of Stan Getz?

  • Redmeat1969

I was Born in 1969 Gary….and I was a bigger gift to the World than the New York Championships that year!

    Yeah…I am that damn good!

…now off to drink some Cabernet Franc….

  • alexkeywest

This douche bag is about as knowledgeable as Algore

  • Hi guys

    QOTD

I've just got back into playing now work is no longer silly hours. I like Aussie wines when playing the guitar, i've got great memories of playing the guitar when I was over there on isolated beautiful beaches drinking some decent but cheap grog straight from the bottle.

  • waynoooo daa winoooo

KIIICK OOOOUUUT DAAAAAA JAAAAAAMS, WAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!! :o)

  • stephen john bryde

so true, it's like over roasted coffee. everyone loves it & people who really get into coffee, tasting it trying different stuff, usual get sick of it. cause it's not the taste of the actual coffee, but the taste of the coffee burning & then rotting. over-engineered.

This guitar guy has no idea what dryness is or is not in a wine. He clearly did not mean sugar or sweetness. I believe from what he said that what he calls “dry” is tannin or astringency or bite. Nice guy, he can clearly play the guitar.

Why was he on WLTV again?

    Pooh pooh…

  • adrums

Good show, guest seemed like a nice guy… Surprising that a 6 year old 16 bone cab would still even be holding up if you ask me…

  • DaveyJohnson

1969 and you dont mention the Mets! I am starting to wonder about you GV. I liked that Billy picked a 10 and 16 dollar wine. If Gary told me to go pick 2 wines of my choice in Wine Library I would probably poop myself.

  • SS_Chris

FACTUAL ERROR: Not the Jets and Knicks in '69…….actually Jets and Mets in '69 and then the Knicks in '70 (although it was the '69-'70 season)

  • KVM1985

I loved this episode! The guest is adorable!!! He is definitely a guest I would want to hang out with. I truly appreciate a mix of guests from all industries and levels of knowledge. Many many many people drink wine who are not specifically in the wine business, and we can learn from them all. Thank you both for the show!

QOTD: Don't play guitar (though I certainly like to hear it)…I've played the cello for over ten years though! I've even played electric cello a few times…which was really cool!

  • Let me be who i am, and let me kick out the jams! A bit of MC5 for ya. Thnx waynooooo
for bringing the music thunder this lovely evening.

  • castello

Danny Gattton! He changed the music world.
Billy looks so familiar. Who has he played with etc. I guess I'll have to wiki his butterguitar. Get on here Billy and talk to me/us.

  • I don't play guitar…

  • Well, we all play air-guitar don't we???

  • castello

Name calling? We know who you voted for. Probably twice!

  • M_Woolley

I was waiting for this show to bomb, but the explosion didn't happen. It was actually pretty good.

  • I play guitar. I have an American Strat a Taylor 614 series and a Seagull S6 CW. I play my guitar about as frequently as I drink wine (daily). I prefer big reds that offer more than just fruit – I like the intense character and enjoy wines that offer a good balance of spice, fruit, and acid.

Great jam in the beginning! Thanks for showing love to the music!

    Josh @nectarwine on Twitter

  • Yeah, agreed, let's get some thunder Billy

  • waynoooo daaa winoooo

    Hoooolleee Coooooow, Another MC5 Fan !!!!! :o)

  • Pingback: Guitars, Grenache, and Cabernet ? Episode #825 | TibTV()

  • Yeah, man! My favourite album is probably “Back in the U.S.A.”

although “Kick Out the Jams”, SHIT, don't know man! They are both awesome! Rock on!

  • A Q for the Vaynernation, a tricky one i know: Who is your favourite Guitar player?

    Or maybe a top 5?

  • benkearney

Johnny Cash's estate just called. You owe them royalties.

  • Bill

    Did he say apple?

  • Braden G

    RIP Stevie Ray Vaughn
QOTD – I play guitar (although I suck) and I love all different kinds of wine. I am however starting to move away from the overextracted over-the-top shiraz/zin/cali-cab that I used to love in favour of more elegant complex wines. Guess I am maturing… haha

  • That was fantastic! Billy is a really good guitar player. Wow that was great to listen to. Thanks!

QOTD: I don't play guitar, but I like the bold.

  • Why not have guests like this on the show? 🙂

  • slave2thevine

Interesting guest…but I have to say that his choice to exclude people who do not play guitar has left me feeling less interested in guitar as a whole. To me it is almost like the old “elitist attitude” that some wine drinkers of the past have.

NOTE TO GUEST: If you hope to interest more people in guitars…choosing to exclude them in your question was a mistake in my book.
