line of the day – ‘I just got mesmerised for a second’

The longest roll around in the mouth of any wine on wine library tv, it went on for ages I thought GV was fooling around, but as the comment of the day indicates, he was totally blown away by the last wine and as a result, the show was a corker

Thanks, G. I haven't any '05's yet. I didn't go as deep as I should have and am going to wait it out. Love the Right Bank Merlot, though. Classic.

QOTD(a): Sorry, no specifics, but, yes…bunches.

QOTD(b): In no particular order: Damages, Castle, Rescue Me (when it's on), Glee, Nip/Tuck (when it was on), 30 Rock, reruns of The Office (sadly, the new eps have jumped the shark IMO), Family Guy, Gordon Ramsey stuff.

  • pbarr

Great show G. Interesting how you had such different reaction to three 91 RP wines.

    QOTD: The Office!!!

  • Mott

The 85 jersey pan zoom only applies to wine scores. We just don't do the zoom for just your ordinary off the cuff 85.

  • Moselman

Couldn't find any of the three in the B.C. Liquor domain, but was excited to find a link to an '06 St-Emilion for <30 Cdn bones, AND, only available in the Okanagan stores. Gotta be a sign ? just might be my birthday-present-to myself next month. Thanks for the memories, Gary.

I did not know anyone else knew about this show but me!!!! IT Crowd ROCKS!!!! I wish they made more.

  • stevo

BTW…how do we get one of those wine bottle stickers?

  • QOTD #1 = YES and I love wines from St. Emilion… Pomerol too
    QOTD #2 = Jeopardy

  • BTW – QOTD = Highlander the series! It's playing now every night at 12 central

  • Great show for the ballers, but I liked the show anyway.
QOD. The Pacific, 24 and Big Bang Theory are my fav's right now.

  • Graham

I was actually laughing when you were mesmerized. It had a funny effect on me.

  • QOTD #1 – Yes, yes and oh yeah. I tried some last time I was in France (late 2008). don't remember the specific one, but my mouth waters as I think about it.
QOTD #2 – I've got 2. How I met you mother (HIMYM), and Big Bang Theory

  • dsallen

QOTD 1: Yes – got an open bottle right now.
QOTD 2: I'm loving Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay right now.

  • Interesting episode, good one. Side QOTD: Yes. St.Emilion are some of My Favorites (Chateaux La Croix Chantecaille is what we're gravitating around these days- http://www.garalysoka.com/vinos/2008/9/13/chate…).

QOTD: Favorite TV show, hmm… I agree with Mott, Top Gear Rules! Also Q.I. on the BBC.

  • paul

QOTD1 – Yes, quite a few St. Emilions over the last 30+ years
    QOTD2 – Nova

  • QOTD#1 – Yes, and I enjoyed it very much.

QOTD#2 – It's true about TV shows having changed in general. I think HBO really raised the bar for television with shows like the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Deadwood.

I am among those who got totally hooked on Lost. I know for a lot of people it's like their pet whipping boy for TV Shows but whatever… how many prime time major network shows in the past have made you think as much as Lost, or have played to your sensibilities of life purpose, numerology, coincidence, and intrigue?

    Also, you gotta love Dexter.

  • lordsauvignon

SideQOTD: No, but after this, definitely.
    QOTD: Fringe

  • mikeyz

qotd 1: never had a st. emilion
qotd 2: GV's fave, LOST. no other shows matter.

  • nice #sonomastate shoutout!

  • Beeper

Little bit weird episode with the weird face thing at 7:30 (that had better make a highlight reel) and the 20 second taste of the last wine around 9:00…oh yeah and then calling today Thursday – it's as if you're pretaping these or something…

sQOTD: Yep. I spring for 2 wines, CdP and StEm
QOTD: Flashforward – finally starting back up again on Thursday!

  • Beeper

    Ditto

    Holmes rocks

  • Ryzner

QOTD2: BBC America- Top Gear, Survivors, Kitchen Nightmares & The F Word. And HBO's The Pacific.

  • Oakmon's BF

    QOTD: IT Crowd

  • Altboy97

Haven't tried the St Emilion, but you make it seem very worthwhile. Definitely need to remember the 05 Duffau to buy with OPM.

QOTD – I laugh a lot at Community and am looking forward to DWTS. I had great hopes for Pacific, but wasn't that impressed with the first episode.

  • cowz

QOTD: I love Top Gear also great show and i come to find America's Dad is funny too.

  • Anonymous

    Why wait?

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Waiting for the New Season of Nurse Jackie, Survivor, American Idol, Big Love, Big Bang Theory, Two and a half men.

Side Question: Yes to St. Emilion. Think There's a bottle of the Lynsolence in the cellar–an '03 which means it's probably riper than the '05. Must drink it…would definitely splurge on the Beausejour.

  • QotD: Haven't had a St. Emilion yet, can't wait to try

I had to sign in for the first time just so I can post this (sry, battlestar galactica junkie)
    QotD2: Caprica… so say we all…

  • WineWoman

    Mott=Shy, Laid-Back
    Gary=Aggressive, Energetic

  • JiminAtlanta

I have had only a few St. Emilion wines. I was in Bordeaux a few years ago and wanted to go to St. Emilion, but the trains were on strike (what else is new in France) and I could not get there. I need to try again. QOTD – My favorite new show is Modern Family. It makes me laugh out loud, which is unusual.

  • I have not tried a St Emilion but I believe I will and compare it to a Pomerol and a Pauillac
and see if I can identify the different and similar qualities as it pertains to terroir.

QOTD: Food network Travel Channel PBS, Ya I'm a geek. Oh yes, HUGH M.A.S.H. fan.

BTW, got my email today and I will be getting a signed copy of “The Show”. Ya Baby!!

  • Big_Al

Gary, First off you really need to learn how to pronounce the names of these French Chateau's…please. I'm sure Google or someone has a program (you know I'm right). I bought heavy in 2005 Bordeaux Futures (all St. Emillion as in 14 cases or so) however I have not had one in a couple of years. The prices on the first 2 wines (which I have never heard of seem a little high to me). The Beausejour does not surprise me…. a 93/95 point wine most vintages. Wish I had some.

  • ONUMello

QOTD1: No, out of my price point for now
QOTD2: I always have loved reality law enforcement shows (Cops, TruTV shows, etc) those are still probably at the top of the list.
    Gary = The Best
    Mott = BETTER!
(love ya both, keep going what you're doing, & it is about time for another Mott episode! Maybe Mott on the Laid Back Friday couch after you get back from SxSW?)

  • Phil – Boston

QOTD: My hands down fav from St. Emillion is Chateau L'Angelus … I know baller wine and I have only been fortunate enough to taste it once, but for a much more budget pick I have been a huge fan of Grand Pontet (esp. 2003 and 2005).

Mott – Totally there on the top gear. I was fishing for series 14 this weekend and found a few episodes online.

  • Chris C

QOTD: The best show would hae to be the big bang theory, just from the amount of nerd humor involved.

  • jacqueline51

    Bonjour Garee!
Jacq. here from T.O. Love Saint Emilion! Love Merlot! It's Monday here. I thought we were on the same time lines but it's apparently Thursday for you (or as they say in Newfoundland, Tursdy)! Love Newfoundland!

Favourite show: A programme called “The Hour” with George Stromboulopolous. Yep I know quite the name. You can check him out at http://www.cbc.ca/thehour. Very cool guy, much like yourself Garee.

    Favourite show # 2: Dragon's Den—You have the Shark's Tank—-Kevin O'Leary and Robert Herjavec are canadians who started on Dragon's Den. http://www.cbc.ca/dragonsden.

By golly another fine show Mr. Vay-ner-chuk!
    Jacqueline

  • robbeishline

favorite show: no reservations with anthony bourdain

I have not had a St Emilion but will look for one, any suggestions for a guy on a tight budget?

  • Really good show watching you on my iPhone awaiting in my car to play some tennis on this dreadful night.

Pre-QOTD: Yes, I've had quite a few St Emeeeyeeowns. As you mentioned, I'm sure they will be “not available” when i click on the link to buy. 🙂

QOTD: One word TV shows is my mantra: 1) LOST 2) HOUSE 3) Survivor

    Cheers!

  • Skinnerc06

GV can pronounce it however he wants. After he kicks Chuck Norris's ass, hes coming for u.

  • brianaf

burn notice is my fav new show

  • laurieinvt

    side QOTD: yes!
“it's towards the end of the week- Thursday action”? Oops. It's late enough and I'm tired enough that for a split second there I had a bit of a start!
QOTD: We watch very little TV, and less since a couple of major winds moved the antenna (big extension ladder is in use at a major job site- TV reception is last on the priority list…). I miss PBS.

  • Tee

    Gary,

I received a shipment of delicious, well-priced wines from you today and something hit me: when I buy wines from other places online, the packaging is usually eco-friendly recycled paperboard. WL continues to use bad old styrofoam. What gives? It's seriousy bumming my trip.

  • Brian R

Great flashback to the 2005 vintage. QOTD: Spartacus and Pacific Are the weekly favorites in my house.

  • KnightWKNF

Another great show Gary. I love saint emillion like you said that extra cab franc always gives it that nice extra push with a cooked veggie play with some age.

QOTD: I give tv a total Paz, no time to watch tv either reading, studying or well whats porbably going to be the down fall of my generation playing video games.

  • Cbark423

Great show Gary, I haven't tried any St. Emilion and these are pretty far out of the college budget…feel free to shout out to Seton Hall…we're only 15mins down the road! How can we get a hold of some of those stickers, also seeing them made me think, if you were to develop a Vayniac window decal for the car, I'd totally rock it. Keep up the good work as always!

QOTD: Top Gear, NCIS, and Family Guy

  • ErieWineGuy

    Nice show again, as usual!

Yes to having had St. Emilion and right bank wines.

Not much time for TV. Local news and cooking shows. Sounds wimpy, but that's just where I roll now.

    Thanks again

  • bdshupe

My favorite show this year has probably been Undercover Boss, but my guilty pleasure has been Burn Notice.

  • laurieinvt

provides for the most consistent temp you can hope for while shipping

  • drew82

QOTD: Haven't had a St. Emilion, but I want to now. Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Archer, American Dad …

GV what do you think of the LaDainian Tomlinson signing? We must hear the Thunder Show's opinion. Would you rather have kept Thomas Jones?
