line of the day – ‘I just got mesmerised for a second’

The longest roll around in the mouth of any wine on wine library tv, it went on for ages I thought GV was fooling around, but as the comment of the day indicates, he was totally blown away by the last wine and as a result, the show was a corker

    TV…whats that?!

So GV; when you get a bottle that blows you away like that, do you just cork it and leave it around the office for anyone, take it home, ….I can't imagine you schwill it in the middle of the day..LOL

    Hi Gary,

Loved the show ! For me you can do a Bordeaux show everyday ! Had lots and lots of Saint Emilion. The pricepoint overhere is o.k. and you can get a simple grand cru for 8 bones. Love the animal, barnyard, smelly, pissy emilons. I am watching Dexter (second saisen overhere)
    Lots of love

QOTD: Human Target is really good. Bored with 24. Kind of getting bored with Smallville too.
Waiting for Rescue Me to come back.
And CSI Vegas is still an awesome show after all these years. Oh and Scrubs came back with a bang!

  • The “can't miss” show for us right now is Caprica. I LOVED BSG, and I didn't think I could get into a prequel, it's got some different ideas going on, and we're officially hooked.

  • QOTD: I'm big into lost right now and have a new episode to watch tonight!!!

Thanks for the St Emilion recap Gary, this is one of my favorite wine areas in the world.

  • aeggert

Good show, wish I wasn't so budget limited and could just go drop 80 buck a bottle on wine right now.

Side QOTD: I have a couple St Emilion's at home in the cellar that I've been waiting to drink.

Actual QOTD: I watch quite a few, but my current favorites are Castle and House. And I'm waiting for the new Doctor Who to finally start shooting and making its way to BBC America.

  • KAHUNA

TimF doesnt even drink wine anymore- I think he is the only dude that likes wine less than Gary- amazing that people who post on here think Gary actually likes wine! LOL

  • WTG Merlot! (Cab Franc, you know I love ya) Nice tight show. Loving the = comments.

Side QOTD: Last Bordeaux I had was St. Estephe, though I have had a few St. Emilion.

QOTD: How I Met Your Mother, Fringe, NCIS, and Leverage.

  • Oakmon’s BF

Mott, why no avatar? You should get yourself a picture of a jolly bearded fellow like Santa or Jerry Garcia.

  • Has he skipped Bender?

  • I've had St Emilion before (under $50) and have actually been there.. Such a beautiful town, full of history, wine shops (somewhat touristy) and of course vineyards. Best part is to go visit the local châteaux in the area.

QOTD: Anthony Bourdain No Reservations & Caprica

  • Mott

I still use Bender. I don’t know why he didn’t show up in that post. Besides I’m more like Bender.

Have not had that many French Merlots, bought some recently on Cinderella which is the only way I will buy French wine since its so overpriced, have had mostly Cali and Washington St., and recently started drinking Merlot again and enjoyed them very much. Try 2005 Swanson or Chapallet. QOTD-Fringe (new season coming), Entourage, and shows on Spike. http://www.winelx.com

  • huskerjamie

It's a tie between Inbetweeners on BBC America and Archer on FX.

  • srdonjulio

“Heroes” awesome show. My kids and I watch it together and have almost converted my wife to watch more episodes with us. Good show… I've enjoyed St. Emilion since the early 90's.

  • QOTD: Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation
It's an (average) Aussie show but Shaun Micallef is a freakin' genius

  • GLrocks

QOTD: No Reservations still my favorite been a fan since his book and his show ” A Cook's Tour” As well a Jersey guy with that dry and hilarious sense of humor…. Food and wine
or death ! Thanks for the info $85 ….? sometimes there are wines that just need to be bought and that looks like one of them . I am going for it .

  • I think Gary will admire Walter's passion!

  • trebalert

I've had Virginie de Valandraud, '03 Grand Cru, which Gary should review because of all the “V's”

anything HBO is usually good, but I no longer have cable. I watch the Daily Show online.

  • cellarrat5

    Next season should be interesting.

  • cellarrat5

archer is fuc*ing hilarious, done by the same guys who do Sealab 2021 and a bunch of other stuff for William Street.

  • cellarrat5

keep watching, it gets insane. well its already insane; but it gets even better.

  • cellarrat5

    Yes, quite.

  • CharlieTN

My first St. Emilion is still sitting on its side–the '06 Haut-Brisson La Reserve from Secret Pack B. Let's have another secret pack soon! Easter, anyone? And let's put the Beausejour Duffau in it. Or at least put it on Cindy.

Gary's right–lots of good new TV shows out there now. My favorite is still my old standby, though, The Daily Show. Unoriginal choice, I know. But I can't help it.

  • CharlieTN

    Archer, yes.

  • Some good juice there Gary.

QOTD: I am with Mott, I really love Top Gear. And the new mini series The Pacific on HBO.

Ever wonder if you contribute to people?s intimidation factor regarding wine? You?re not even talking to me and I can barley type this post my hands are shaking so badly. Looks like you might need to put down the Vino for a while and try to locate some nice kind Afghan Indica cross to chill you the F*ck out!

  • missatiejacket

Nice episode. I have had a few St Emilions. I don't really have a favorite tv show; no cable. I have just finished watching The Sopranos, though, and I liked it a lot. I thought season 5 was fairly weak, but I liked the rest quite a bit, including the much complained about ending.

  • DCaragher

GV – Good show…it was interesting to see a wine “make you more respectful!” It's amazing how a beverage and just settle you down or vamp you up!

QOTD: Yes, I have had a St-Emilion! And for TV shows I am watching The Pacific (new mini-series on HBO and The Office!

Mott= Good color, nice firm structure. Has a rustic old school quality which I like quite a bit. Just a shoulder of woodiness, no oak monster here. Lets give it a whirl… This is Legit with a capitol L my friends! You could cellar this for a few years or drink it now. Lots of class, this wine is worth the 45 bones and then some! For my pallet this is a 93+ wine, outstanding.

Gary= This wine has color to spare, hints of beef jerky, little barn yard in there as well. Classic old world Bordeaux is all over this wine. Lets give it a whirl… *scilence* Wow, this wine is RIPPING my face off right now. Huge structure, we are talking monumental here. Blackberries, cassis, but very subtle beef jerky and the old world style is in your grill piece. I would give this a 94+, hopefully it will keep its intensity and style over the next few years. Great wine, Great show!!

QOTD1: Yes, Garage Wine called P.Du Roy IN S.E., beautiful town, beautiful wine. Plus some Chateau Milens & Tour Du Seme
QOTD2: House. Addicted. A natural enough follow on from a long term love of Jeeves & Wooster. Great show man – Thank You.

    05 Right Bank Rocks!
Happy Paddy's Day GV and Mr Mott

  • I WAS AT “GRANDES MURAILLES” THIS MORNING AS I SPENT THE DAY IN SAINT EMILION…
And I totally agree with you, this wine is awsome!!
I told the owner that you did this wine testing and she was very pleased that you liked her wine. Madame Fourcade (owner) is a very nice woman.
For example she gave us some barrels to start my business…
Have a look on http://www.maydouelle.com/ .. this is what i did with “Chateau Les Grande Murailles” barrels!
Thanks Gary for all your advices – Cheers

  • QOTD side: Yes.
    QOTD: Your favorite, Gary: Lost!

  • divyamistry

Those definitely looks like a bunch of delicious heavenly juices.

Side QOTD: Never had St. Emilion.
QOTD: It's all about “The Big Bang Theory” and “30 Rock”.

  • Phredd3

No La Reserve? Can't believe it. 😉

    SQOTD: Well, yeah. See above.

QOTD: Brothers & Sisters? OK, I mostly watch that 'cause my wife does. I don't think there's a single scripted show out there that I watch. I catch Idol once in awhile. I watch old movies and sports. There's no TV show I can really claim as a favorite.

  • Have had a bunch of St Emilion. Big fan of the 03 and 98 vintages. I had the 03 Lynsolence though and thought it sucked.

  • A_S

    QOTD: Lost!
I also watch a lot of Top Gear;)

  • WineCutter

GV did a St. Emilion show and didn't include Chateau Sansonnet? First time for everything 😉
    QOTD: House.

  • QOTD: Caprica – and it's filmed in my home town!

Love St Emilion. Better value than Pomerol

  • Great show. I WISH I had 90 bones to drop on a bottle!

side QOTD: I've never had St. Emilion ;-(
QOTD: (not sure if it is still running, but…) Kitchen Nightmares & Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

  • TommyB

QOTD: Top Gear! UK reprezent! Big up Mott!
My Dad introduced me to St Emilion many years ago – I have been loving them ever since. In fact, under my bed I have a bottle of Chateau Figeac 2000 which I'm saving for when I graduate in 2011 (as a mature student). I hope it's as nice as the 3rd wine you tried in the show!

  • Anonymous

I’m early in my wine exploration and I understand. Now with Cindy and WL I am starting to be able to save some stuff, but I always want to drink the best stuff in the rack. I found a winery in Sonoma, Teldeshi who seems to hold onto their wines for about 10 years. I just bought some of their 98 and 99 Zin blends and they are very good and melowwww.
