90/100

Right back in the zone with this episode – the distinction between ‘real’ wine and that created in the lab is such an important subject and GV is on point with his argument. Oh and a hilarious hand gesture at 6.12 adds to the enjoyment

Gary is slackin’ in a big way! or maybe he’s gettin old? ; )

  • Allan

Cheers! sorry about the price point over there : (

    (in Denmark myself)

I musta been tipsy to say the least when I bought the Valpolicella. Quite a few bones. I can’t really afford a good Amarone but this was close and loved it. Now, I’m sad it’s gone ;(

  • Allan

His Amarone is not for ordinary people like us. I think it’s over 300 bones a pop!!
Have just heard some amazing things about it. Sometimes it’s reported to have over 17% alcohol, and still steppin lightly as a ballerina……

  • Anonymous

My local fancy liquor store wants 55! yikes, WL comes thru again.

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

  • XpensiveWino

    Back2Back top 10's!

QOTD: Too many wine clubs to be ordering in bulk online right now 🙁

  • johncannata

Thats funny that Pete mentioned the shirt thing. never been in the top 10 for comments.

  • Allan

    5th!

  • cellarrat5

  • NY Pete

    welcome!

  • thrawn1020

How does one comment when there aren't any? I was looking for a few minutes here…

QOTD: Stuff I've already bought, pretty much. I know that sounds cliche, but if I don't find work soon I'll be delving into Box wine…Not somewhere I want to be going forward.

  • Allan

Turn it up Mott, it's Jackson!

  • slave2thevine

QOTD: Wow…so I guess that I haven't honestly been buying much lately. I just bought a bunch of the '94 Musar. That's about it….

  • NY Pete

interesting blend on the red but JMiller … pazzzzzzzz

  • Allan

    That's a boob job Gary!

  • Good timing on the Baylor shoutout. Right when this episode went up, they squeeked by…

QOTD: Don't really buy a lot of one thing. Way too many wines to try.

  • viadomitia

QOTD: Coudoulet de Beaucastel CdR 2007

  • johncannata

FYI… as of half time, Baylor was tied. I'll have to check out where they now. Game should be over. Gary, have you micro'd skittles? It was odd that you thought to heat up the skittles for 13 minutes. Also, I was confused whether you were doing “air quotes” or talking about the Oak Monster. LOL

QOTD – Right now I am not tied to any ONE wine. I am still in the tasting mode where I'll try a new one each week to see what I like and do not like. I'm sure I'll decide on ONE eventually.

My QOTD… how many comments do I need to make so that I am no longer considered A LURKER??? I have watched many shows where I do not comment at all, but I am getting better.

  • NY Pete

qotd … no individual wine but alot of 2007 napa cabs

  • I love chocolate covered cherries. I might like that wine! I love watching Gary while he tastes a wine — scrutinizing his facial reactions to determine whether or not he is going to like it or not. Good drama!

QotD: no wine in particular, but am into Petitie Sirahs.

Have had the Urban (thought too much oak..and I like oak)…I think I got spit on with that intro… QOTD-Trilogie-Argentina-$8 big red, juicy how can u go wrong. http://www.winelx.com

  • johncannata

    Thanks!

  • Allan

Nice short one Gary, like yourself.

Qotd: Domaine Puig-Paraphÿ, Cotes du Roussillon “Georges” 2007. I fell in love with this wine on the first outing…. Love at first sight you might say.
Smelling like a bouquet of flowers (Chrysanthemum). And has some really interesting herbacious tones as well, along with “the usual suspects”, such as cherry & what have you…

Parker has scored it 91p. I think, for the amazing price point (under 15 bones approx) it's a steal. 93p from me. Highly Recommended.

  • QOTD:

I'm drinking Kaiken Malbec – part of Montes. Stunning Malbec Check it out if you can, the 'Ultra' is amazing, 91 points wine enthusiast and not too too pricey, maybe too much of a fruit bomb for you old world fans though.

Also have to say – inspired choice by viadomitia rock on CDR 07

  • lucas_donigian

QOTD: Magness Merlot-It's bulk napa juice but from some fantastic vineyards such as Los Amigas and Caldwell vineyards, roughly $20

  • castello

Lovin some of the Cindy wines right now. Gran Elias Mora Toro, Dal Forno Valpolicella. Big ass Bordeaux. Napa Cabs and Merlot.

  • Allan

One of my favourite Cotes Du Rhone's. Top stuff at reasonable bones!

  • Allan

    I'd say 500

  • nickcaruth

QOTD: drinking this waiting to get my hands on the 733
    http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1039265

Champage jacquesson 732 based on the 04 vintage and trailing percentages of 03 and 02
also anticipating their new single vinyard releases later this year

  • castello

I love the Harry and David chocolate covered anything. Much better than run of the mill but very pricey.

  • castello

3 times a week and you're off the deadly lurker list.

  • cellarrat5

Good show, pleasantly surprised by the lack of Australia bashing. Malbec Temp blend sounds good for my pallet, too bad it was “skittles in microwave” loved the sound effects btw.

QOTD: Going to have to jump on NY Pete?s 07 Napa bandwagon, I think Gary mentioned at one point that anybody could make a decent wine from this vintage.

  • winecrazy

    Nice…!!!

QOTD: I bought a few cases or Turley my favorite everyday wine….from Turley

  • jayhitek

QOTD: Catena Melbac. Bogle Petite Syrah.

Hello from Zagreb, Croatia! My friends and I are EATING for lunch and supper one Pinot noir from north-eastern part of Croatia which has a semi-mediterranian climate whith warm automns. It's rather heavy (15% alc) but very round and its flower scents are incredible. Totally old world made. Not perfect but you cannot stop drinking it. Like some friend you have with all his flaws (right spelling?) and lot more virtues….

  • Allan

I always wanted to be first…. Thnx

  • (Andy) I am just loving the 2008 Villa Des Anges that Gary reviewed a few shows ago and gave 90 pts to. Great cab for around $10 that I'm sure a lot of the commenters know about. Great episode Gary and thanks for all you do!

  • Do water sell? I never buy water, since the tap water in my town is one of the best inte the world. Cost abot a dollar for 1000 liters.

A Macon!!! Just tasted a glas.

QOTD: Well “shame” to say it's Parallèle 45 Côtes du Rhône 2007. It's have never been this true to the area and the old world style. It's 14 dollars here, but it's Rhone baby. This is my get hammerd wine at the moment. Swedish monopoly link 🙂 http://www.systembolaget.se/SokDrycker/Produkt?…

For more style I have been hard on the wallet for CDP 2007, got about 10 different makers at least two of each

  • castello

I see WL has the 733 for sale at 43 bones. Is this gonna be as good as you think. How about a cindy offering G?
