  • BillyClyde

Greta—more new wines to buy. I'm going broke.

    QOTD – Ruffino Orvieto

  • Allan

    Thnx!

  • Wow!! This show is awesome!!
Great energy!! Listening to 12min of video each day is challenging, probably I'd stick if it was a weekly show…

QOTD: I'm Italian so I always drink Italian wines 🙂 So quite a difficult question to answer: when it comes to white wine I think I'd probably like the white wines from the south: Fiano, Falanghina, Grego di Tufo… Probably with a little preference to Falanghina.

Again, compliments for the show.. now that I discovered it, I'll probably watch it more often

  • QOTD: Tocai Fruliano, though I guess it's just Fruliano now.

  • sadelekmeiro

Hi Gary, my favorite Italian wine is the Barolo di Campofiorin, which by the way I so happy I´m going to start working with a wine distributor who carries it, and one of my main goals will be import USA wine down here to Venezuela.
Hey Gary Can you have live Skype calls on your podcats ?
I will love to send you a wine made in Venezuela so you can review, that will be interesting because Venezuela it´s located close to the equator therefor is not a wine country.
Love your show bro, keep it up, cause you with a little bit of me: we are changing de wine world!

Are people scared of the Vayniacs?

Brandon is nowhere to be found

  • Allan

    Indeed… !

Idea for a show; Rías Baixas, spanish whites. Maybe?

  • s_humbug

QOTD: I like Moscato, who doesn't? But recently I had a great Chardonnay from northern Italy, I forgot the name, it was awsome.

  • erikwait

QOTD: I like Pinot Grigio, but it is such a chameleon of a wine that it can be difficult to find one that it grown in the right soil and climate with the result that they truly displays its true varietal character. Far too many here in California are made in a Chardonnay-like style that just destroys them and makes them seem soft, gooey and smacking of canned tropical fruit. Having said that, I found the 2006 J Russian River Valley Pinot Grigio to shine well as it displays a distinctive ginger character and maintains its acidity and minerality.

QOTD: Probably a toss up between Kerner (Stiftskellerei Neustift) & Müller-Thurgau (Anselmet)

  • Allan

Brolo Di Campofiorin 2006 this evening from Masi. Corvina grape mostly. Great wine. Me like.

I think Brandon is probably STILL RUNNIN', G SCARRED da Crap outta him……..

QOTD: My favorite Italian white wine right now is Zagra from Sicily. It's made from inzolia and grillo and it is rich and full and smells like marzipan with pollen and white flowers sprinkled on top. On the palate it tastes like honeyed melon with a nice minerality on the back that is supported by some good acidity.

GV- I've got to try the pinot gris. the last 2 I had (one french, one cali) were “casperesque” (as in the friendly ghost)! LOL!

QOTD: My top 2 are the “Monty” Montepulciano D Alba, and the 05 Botromagno Primitivo. Great QPR, and awesome when aerated or decanted for 2 hrs or so. Have a great week-end! Thanks for the content, Mike

Yo, he will be at Canada 'bout now!

  • GLrocks

GV nice line up. When are you going to do some up and coming Cabs versus some flagship cabs ? That would be interesting …maybe BLIND?????
QOTD I like Pavi Pinot Grigio and their Dolcetto both organic fruit that gives the wines a little more weight while maintaining the integrity of the fruit. Dolcetto can be great when made properly

Posting this only 3:00 into the show – literally stopped watching the show on the spot to post this “call-out comment”: Gary -> you are hammered! awesome. I know you can get fired up as soon as you get out of bed so i could be off, but my guess is the “Friday beer cart” made a guest appearance at the WL yesterday, and you took full advantage. Im now wondering if when i resume the episode, sometime around the 5:00 minute mark we'll get a shot of Mott wearing some aviators and a NYE 2007 party hat. Keep it up guys, love the show.

  • I am watching the Baylor game right now and they look good! I have them going to the elite 8 in my bracket.
    QOTD: I have no idea

  • Bill_Murray

Finished the show, and i stand by my initial read 3min into it below. Also, on the 2nd wine, noticed you said 14USD followed by 18 bones . . . does that mean your cost is 14 and your retail is 18??? Just curious. Would like to know which wines are “high margin” and what drives higher margins (price point, critic, etc?)

QOTD: Have little experience with white in general, and 0 with Italian whites. Of the whites i have had, like NZ sav blancs, but admittedly they are 1 dimensional most the time. Would ***LOVE*** a show on aged white wines where you go into again potential and try out some older Rieslings and Sauternes (and others that age well that i and others are not aware of). Would be interesting to to blind a vertical of 1990's early 2000's and new release of a white to display the aging effect for us. Cheers.

QOTD: “favorite” is a strong term for me. My answer will change regularly. I'm not stuck on a favorite. However I like VERNACCIA DI SAN GIMIGNANO.

  • DAveAll

    Pinot Gris

  • ahillsey

Paolo Scavino Bianco…..mostly Sauv Blanc and Corregia Arneis and Greco in general.

  • Bill i wish, i was FARRRRRRRRRRR from drunk 🙂

  • DanLacher

Wow, need to hit up my local wine shop and see if my man Gar can get me hooked up.

Living in Michigan is hard at times, just need to have it all shipped to friends in Illinois and then make a venture to pick it up from time to time.

  • nitaT

QOTD: Falanghina fav Italian white right now.

    good show.

  • Cole

I don't really have a fav. I skip around to much and honestly Italian whites haven't been making it home with me as often as they should. I've liked the Feudi di San Gregario Greco di Tufo, and the Casalfarnetto Fontevecchio both pretty well.

I know you didn't ask but since you gave such major props to the Palmina I'm going to tell you anyway. They are doing a really good job with Italian varietals in Santa Barbara County. The Stolpman estate Sangiovese and La Croce (their Syrah/Sangiovese blend) were both fantastic. We had a couple of different Nebbiolo's that were both very nice one from Santa Barbara Winery and one from Clendenan Family Vineyards. We also got to taste a Tocai Friulano out of barrell at the Au Bon Climat Winery that was floral, delicate, and very pretty. I'm definately going to track down that Palmina.

  • QOTD: Moscato d'Asti. Ever since I tried the muscat grape off the vine I've been hooked on it and maybe even a bit B4. Way to rock it GV! Nice show. Those Italian pronunciations rolled off the tongue convincingly!

  • “from ashy to classy”… big UP for the Biggie reference.

QOTD: I love a good Gavi wine… always seems to do it for me

  • angelatcarlson

QOTD: Kerner from the Alto Adige and Arneis!

  • winestein

QOTD: i dig malvasia. the nose is so fem and pretty. probably why i like torrontes as well. ive just stumbled onto malvasia nera that i thought had that nice floral aspect as well. i also enjoy the versatility of the grape and the food that so easily pair with it.

  • Thomas

Mr V, you are fucking hilarious!!! I love your show and just recently started watching again after and extended absence having nothing to do with your show. I literally laughed out loud several times 😀 I like wine well enough, but honestly, your show is so entertaining I'd watch even if I hated wine 🙂

    Take care big guy!

  • Another great show! Disappointed in the Fiano.
QOTD…Moscato D' Asti, off to Rome this week so I'm sure Ill find more favorite's.

Restaurant of the DAY Dinos in Cleveland Park, Washington DC, my good friend Dean Gold is the owner Dino, an Italian restaurant/enoteca in Cleveland Park, Washington DC, specializing in local ingredients along with reasonably priced and really good wines. The largest wine list on the east coast, or so I thought. http://www.dino-dc.com/

    82 points? Ouch.
So many wines, and too little time. Haven't had the occasion to pick out a favorite Italian white to date. Actually, I don't really drink a lot of them.
As for Brandon. If you get the time, give us an update on where he is currently working.

  • That's what I thought aswell, about Biggie, hahaha!

  • Nice show again! As for the QOTD: I dig the Bucci Verdicchio so damn hard now.

Glad you were all charged up for the weekend. It turned out to be a beautiful one. Hope you and your daughter got to do something fun outside.
Sorry not much to say about the QOTD – I'm generally liking wines from Italian wines from Sicily.

  • Found the Eyrie Pinot Gris this weekend at a local wine shop. Acidity was indeed wonderful—like a Meyer lemon being squeezed in your cheeks. Great aperitif. Thanks for the tip.

  • corkscrew

Have not had any of these wines. A bit too light for my palete. QOTD-none at the moment, love Italian reds. http://www.winelx.com

  • stevew – Colorado

Brandon Marshall to the Jets? GV, you have to post your thoughts.

  • theDude

Decent show but didn't blow me away. Your shirt is too boring!!!! I've had to look at it for 3 episodes in a row and you look like part of the wall!!!! We know your taping multiple shows on the same day but if you have time to change the board, bring an extra couple of shirts for God's sake…….just keepin it real G.

QOTD: Don't drink many Italian wines but recently served a Mionetto Il Moscato with some friends that they went crazy for (it was just decent but you know great company always adds 2 or 3 points to the wine minimum!!)

  • wayno da wino

YEEEEEEAAAAAAH, Lets getta little JETS-LOVE in da Hizzy !!!!!

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

    HEEEEEY, I LIIIIIIIIIIIIKE DAT SHIRT !!!!!!!! :o)

  • Jeff Moore

Gravi for sure. You have to go to Cube Cafe & Marketplace in LA for the greatest selection Italian wines exclusively from the finest Artisan vineyards in Italy. The owner's passion for good flavor and natural ingredients is a close second to you my man.
