præcis. Dog med det lille ‘men’ at jeg klarede det helt selv…

quickies only with paper bags on. golden rule

    Sorry, I got pumped….

QOTD: It's ok, maybe with some more time spent on the wine and region.

QOTD2: For me? Probably around 15 min.

  • howardhewitt

I like the quick shows! I can sneak them in at lunch or other times when busy and still get a daily dose. That being said, I think 15 minutes is about the max. I enjoy the guests, most of the rants, but think 15 is a good length!

  • Greg77

    Lurker out of the woodwork.

Been picking up Pax's wines for years now, and Griffin's is my fave vineyard. Always great wines.

QOTD: Love these. Keep this up!

  • QOTD: I have no qualms with the format… maybe throw two wines in???

QOTD #2: I think for the day to day shows, 10-15 min. With a cool guest, 20+ is ok as an occasional play.

Good wine, but 42 bones??? Ouch!

  • kv47

Hey Gary, Have a great holiday. Like the format though imho would be better if you could do three-five wines and then rank them before unveiling them. Optimum length for the show would be between 10-15 mins for me.

  • A dumb Rhein king

btw. You totally deserve a week off. If it were a choice between the quicker format and no show, I like seeing the quicker format.

  • eli2tyree

best time is about 7-12 minutes… can do any time and dont have to carve out 20 – 30 minutes… only caveat is dont lose the education…. I learned90% of my wine knowledge watching over the last 3 years – invaluable part of the show

  • scotty8m8

Short, Sweet, On Point. As a busy sommelier in NYC I like to get to brass tacks and still be entertained. I think I answered both Q's OTD! Big Props.

  • BradVinNH

QOTD: I do like the brown bag format but I think doing two brown bag wine vs. wine format would be even better. Take two related wines and pit them against one another.
Agree that a few (very) short shows are much preferred to no shows at all though, YES, you DO deserve time off. Hope you have a great time!!

  • garyleak

Time: about 10-15 minutes unless you have an interesting guest (e.g., Tarlato or Barrett)

  • srdonjulio

10 minutes is a good chunk of time. Keep rollin' with the brown bags!

  • mmarzan

QOTD #2 10-15 minutes of Thunder for me. Keep it going!

  • DCaragher

GV – I like the shows, they are a little short for me, but good. I would suggest goind double blind.

QOTD: I like the shows to be in the 15 – 25 minute range. Kick some knowledge!!!

    OUT!

  • QOTD 1: Love the format, blind tastings and short length = very high QPR (info/time). My favourite though is 3 bottles tasted blind.

QOTD 2: Ideal length is under 15 minutes (AND NO GUESTS)

Great call on the wine: location (California at least) and price

  • DCaragher

Where in NH are you…I am in NH as well, on the seacoast, Portsmouth!

  • seb10

    Hi Gary,

I like the blind shows with 2,3 bottles because (besides the banter and your passion) I am looking for great wine. Five minutes is fine (on weekends it can't be long enough)
Lots of love and a great vacation,

    Seb

  • johncannata

This at least explains why you are doing all the shows on the same day. I like to feel that the show was just made and released, not recorded earlier. But it makes sense that you are going on vacation. Hopefully you enjoyed yourself. It was exciting for my wife and I the first time we took a trip without the kids.

QOTD – I like the brown bag shows and for a typical show, I would say 12-15 minute shows (for me). However, when you have guests, it makes sense that you may be closer to 25-30 minutes.

  • Weird, weird episode. But at least the power didn't go out until AFTER the unveiling.

QOTD: I like the quick format, but I have to say that it wouldn't work without the brown bags. If we already knew what the wine was, and you raced through it in 5 minutes, it wouldn't be as entertaining. Half the fun is waiting to see what that thing is and how much it costs.

  • kasperhip

I wonder how many of these…?

QOTD: I don't think you can call this a new “format”, it's just a quick no nonsense wine tasting without any hoopla, which in the end is not verý interesting. I feel that if you don't take your time to taste the wine more than once, and it's not something special, you at least need two wines in there to make it interesting. And completely blind would be the way to go for me….

QOTD II: I like variation but my favourite episodes are long spirited shows like the one with Jancis Robinson or Heidi Barrett (these ladies stand up to Gary's steamrolling…), with an occasional show that's fun and has a feel good vibe (like the one with Bobby and Brandon).
I definately feel you need to have more content than these quick flashes allows you to.

  • pbarr

G – I hope you have (had) a great vacation. You've got to smell the roses once in a while my friend.

QOTD1: I like the short brown bag shows…not all the time but once in a while.

QOTD2: 15 – 20 minutes seems about right. I like when you stick to three wines, one varietal. The comparisons can be interesting.

  • Just Jack

Well played ball Gary. You took out a light over left field with that one.

QOTD 1: It is a nice change of pace. Adds a little drama, a little zing. I don't know if I would want to see it every episode, but I like it.

QOTD2: Don't mean to punt on the question but I like it mixed up. It's like sex you know? You wouldn't want that to last the same amount of time every time.

  • kasperhip

oh and by the way: Hope you vacation was/is excellent, Gary!!!! God knows you deserve it.

  • njchiantidan

    Gary

    enjoy the vaykay with Lizzy….
QOTD #1 – Brown Bag Shows are a home run because you are really into these shows, its like a game for you and I'm playing along
QOTD #2: 10 min shows are the best (with no guests) as long as you like with guests

You need to have a show with Ian!

  • Nicer than the last one, more punch to it. I still think:

QOTD 2: Ideal for me jest around 15 minutes, I love to sit and relax watching WL TV, and not squishing it in a coffee break.

though. Having said that, still, thanks for the show – I enjoyed it. You really deserve a week off, Gary!

  • Just Jack

“dont lose the education…. I learned90% of my wine knowledge watching over the last 3 years – invaluable part of the show”

    well said.

  • PurpleGrillz

I like TOTALLY blind, 2 wine minimum and if you have to go short, no less than 8 minutes. I don't watch TV except for this show. You should have at least one in depth 20-30 minute show per week, even if they are from a can. I love the off site shows best, i.e. wine bars, vineyards, and non wine places: then your industry insider shows next. I like the fringe guests least, i.e. frozen food critic guy and the college kid wine tasting panel, I possibly like these 5 minute shows least.

  • philoxera

He who pulled the plug is indeed master of all he surveys! QOTD Show should be shorter than my attention span of 30 seconds IMO. The Blind Tasting is good

  • Vernon-Jackson

It should be a mix: 50% 4-12 minutes, 30% 13-20 minutes, and 20% 20+ minutes with shorter episodes focused mainly on the wine and longer episodes reserved for guests.

  • johnfarrin

You fraud!!!!!! You missed it by 300 miles 🙂 Hope you're enjoying yourself. After the comment I'm going on Facebook & Twitter to see if you're keeping your promise to stay off the grid for a whole week 🙂

    QOTD 1: 5-bag blind tastings
QOTD 2: I'm retired so 20-35 minutes is just fine with me.

  • ChrisNY2

QOTD uno: I like when you have 2 brown-bagged wines, and then you compare/contrast them..makes for an interesting show.
QOTD dos: If it's just you and a couple bottles of wine then 13min is perfect, but if you have a guest, then a longer show is fine. But really, it's up to you Gary and how much you're feeling it that day and how much you're feeling the wines. ..no need to drag an episode out if the passion for the wines or for the guests isn't there.

  • QOTD 1: I like this single take, but would prefer that you did not know the varietal. Any I dod like pretty much all of the brown baggers.

QOTD 2: 13-20 minutes. Would love to see more card packs, or unique little crap you do. I like the hotel episodes also. but 13-20 minutes and solo is my fav.

  • Ellio

    GV

    qotd
Love the blind shorties… 2 of them would even be twice as good

    qotd
The length can be what ever..
The Longest shows have always be based on substance and/or GREAT GUESTS!

    Thank You

  • Take a freakin' week off if you want! You don't owe us, we owe you.

QOTD1: Like this format. For me personally I don't need see two wines compared; one, with a more indepth narrative, is fine.

QOTD2: 10 to 15 Minutes. 30 minutes is a bit more than I can commit to (sad comment life today), 5 minutes feels rushed.

  • paulkochevar

QOTD1: Love 2 paper bags head to head…and like 'holladown' comment that, at least from time to time, you have to guess the varietal too.

QOTD2: 10-15 minutes seems to fit in the pocket for me.

    Happy Vacation!

  • johnfarrin

My God, you haven't been on Facebook or Twitter since you said you were going off grid last Saturday. The withdrawal DT's must be killing you 🙂 You could have made a lot of money taking bets on this. Almost no one thought that you could stay away. I am super proud of you.

  • Allan

Well… if this is the format, then so be it.

Only concern is…. if any new followers/new lurkers out there tunes in, about now, hoping to be blown away by info about wine, they probably won't get hooked. The Hard-Core Vayniacs out there know “enough” about wine to make ends meet.

Qotd1: Look above! Having said that: Go Totally Blind Man! That's more coooooool!
Qotd2: The right lenght —————– about that long!

    Have a great Va-Ca-Tion, Sir Vay-Ner-Chuk!

Best of love to Lizzy and Mischa!

PS. Please stop taping ahead of time (I know, you had to, this time)

    Mott!!!!!! Major mistake! OOOOPSSSS!

  • Good show. 42 USD for California Syrah, now that's something to think about.
QOTD1: these are great, you get to be a little less biased about your review going in I think.
QOTD2: whatever length of time, they're OK by me.

  • tflangan

OK, so you're off the hook. You DO deserve a vacation and it is great that you are going away with the Lizzy. Enjoy.

QOTD1: Don't like the shortened format, but you are right that something is better than nothing. Otherwise we'd all be going through GV/WLTV withdrawal.

    QOTD2: 15-20 minutes

  • Allan
