Gary did a very good job being nice to this guest when all he really wanted to do was pan the wines and the price points. The extra minute tagged on to the end of the episode where GV tells us what he really thinks is a bit sneaky but great nevertheless. I clicked on the link to the twitter page and the last posting was 20th Feb 2011. Go figure

  • Was just about to comment and this was the first I read… You stole everything I was going to say. 🙂 Well put. This really is one of the worst types of episodes and guests.

  • Allan

    Hello My Man!

  • Ouch…

  • Allan

    It's allllllll good!

  • Allan

He was quite allright!!! for my taste………

  • NY Pete

10% over a winemakers COST would be a good offer to throw at us …
even the naysayers would like that deal … 🙂

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

I'm going to finish watching this at home and hope that the wine lives up to the $125 price tag. I might have to check out “Crushpad”.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW, I'M IIIIIIIIIIN !!!!!!!

  • Tom

Don?t stab the guests in the back; be up front and score the wine while they are there, on the show, or don?t.

    THE GREEN BOARD:
    Who? Me!
November 18th? Episode 999, last episode with me as guest?!

  • Rousanne or Marsanne? Did I hear the grape right?
😀 sitting on the hands for not doing air qoutes, just fun.
Oops, new ending…well we'll see if that here for the long run, right? 🙂
QOTD: Tough call, free zone or guest sale?
QOTD: Ship to Sweden? I take 2 bottles of the cab then.

  • Kittysafe

I am definitely a fan of the guest episodes. Emeritus, Heidi Barrett, who was the guy who said he's not a winemaker but a helper of the land or something, great character. These characters have definitely been a big push for me to try their wines, and I've generally been very pleased that I did. So, definitely a big yes on the guest episodes, and of course Gary, SASH SHOWS are GOLD.

    QOTD:

I say bring the offers! Why not? Show some love! I would've loved an offer on the Emeritus William Wesley, or the La Sirena Moscato Azol!

  • lawschooldrunk

QOTD #1: do not make it a prerequisite for a guest to offer something. If they do, that's nice. Otherwise, I feel the integrity of the show will be soiled.

QOTD #2: How much are you willing to give me?

  • DCaragher

    Gary,

Good show, I always like seeing guests! Frankly, I think the whole Crushpad thing is cool and it will give a lot of opportunities to a lot of cool people, but it comes off as a bit of a “shortcut.” I can't quite put my finger on it, but buying a wine, such as Cult Vines gives me a bit of an unsettling feeling. Cult Vines, in particular, I think they are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE with no track record, espeically the white, as most wine consumers aren't willing and haven't tried those varietals and who would want to venture for that much on a wine with no pedigree. The Cab I can kind of understand, as it is from a vineyard with huge acclaim, but how about $50 – $75! Steady as she goes…I did not like the label, nor the play on the whole cult wine scene. Make it a bit more personal and maybe people will over look the price tag. Keep it up my man!

QOTD: Keep it a free agency! Although, deals are sweet!
    QOTD 2: I didn't get the question!

READ CORK'D AND COMMENT! TALK WINE ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OUT!

  • cardiffkayaker

Love the bag! I hope I win the lottery!

    😉

  • Allan

    Alrighty then!

  • slushpuppy

Just curious; did you invite the salesman or did he just show up with his wine bearing gifts for you? I think if you start doing 'let's make a deal' on WLTV you will be compromizing your integrity and good name.
    Smell it first. TR

  • Allan

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! ; )

  • Allan

    NAY!

  • Allan

    Time Out; Dave Brubeck Quartet.

    Saxophone Collosus; Sonny Rollins.

    Back Country Suite; Mose Allison.

Check them out before you breathe…………………

  • pbarr

G – Good show…it will be interesting to see if this guy can make it in the long run.

QOTD: Don't make it manditory for guests to bring offers. That's not what the Thunder Show is about.

  • just stay on the prescription man…
    Be well.

  • lawrenceleichtman

I also would not like to see guests throw in something. If they are winemakers, the wine speaks for itself. I really appreciate the last $0.02 at the end. I have always felt that you were reticent to say something less than flattering with the winemaker there but then the wines often did not match up with the discussion you had with the winemakers. I do have to say, I have tried a lot of the wines from the winemakers you have featured. Some good, many not so good. The white wine sounds like an interesting buy here and I will definitely get on his list for that but $125 for a Napa Cab right now, would not be of any interest to me. Maybe Hong Kong or Korea with the big ballers.

  • Maria

A wine made for RP? Let him by it. I don't like selling shows. Sorry. Thanks for your diplomatic honesty about those 2 wines, Gary.

  • mattgmann

I have all of those. Saxophone collosus and time out on vinyl

  • lawrenceleichtman

Mott, the e-mail for Mike comes up 404 not found if you read this.

  • understood slush and I dont think thats where it will go man!

  • john

QOTD – Yes, make guest bring gifts for you and deals for us. Kinda like a payoff for being on the show. I like it !!! ……………… Just kidding you all 🙂 The WLTV show is becoming a little to promo this promo that. Go back and watch the k-murph episode and that's the kinda WLTV content that rocks.

Good Luck to Cult Vines, we all have a dream, way to go for it!

  • MaryC

    Gary,
I love your show and enjoy it when you have guests. QOTD no no offer it should NOT be a requirement of the guest-it would compromise the show. 125.00 a bottle give me a break-for a unknown wine-don't think so.

  • Allan

    Thnx GV!

  • Allan

Come on Man! Why Should he!??? He's got the greatest wine show on the face of the planet…………………………………………..!

  • NY Pete

    dude that's COST, not retail.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

This guy is 3 vintages in on his White Wine & 1 vintage in on his Red Wine, with
    absolutely NO PRESS on them, and he's charging $49 & $125 ????????
    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD LUUUUUUUUUUUUCK, Buddy !!!!!

    Yo G , I doubt he's the next “Kevin Durant”…………..

  • Mott

It's fixed now Lawrence. Thanks for the catch.

  • rwino

Gary, for me overpriced, but then again I thought Harlan and Screaming Eagle were too their first vintage. To Kalon fruit is expensive, but he would be better off in that 60-80 dollar price point. Maybe see it on Cindy in 5 months for 49.95? Wish you would do a Textbook Cab, great fruit, no oak monster with a 3 minute finish!

  • Allan

Mott, I think you're awesome! ok?

    ; )

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

    More like…. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCHHH !!!!!!!!

  • guymandude

That was weird, I guess I'm used to you just scoring the wine in front of guest or not, aren't they just going to watch it later and see what you scored.

Face it, these guys come on your show because if you like it they will benefit and if you don't oh well, that's the chance they should take for coming on the show.

Keep it upfront, let them roll the dice.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

Hey, don't be gettin' FRESH wit Mott……… ;o)

  • waynegusmanjr

Brah, If the wine maker has the balls to sit in the thunderzone (impact area) they should expect a lightning strike. In considering the option of rating the wine in front of them or a few seconds after they are off the video, then it would be more noble of you to just blast them looking strait in their eyes. I would think that if you bring someone on for the purpose of say talking about crushpad, then have them rave about that experience with crushpad as yall taste other brands… either way I am greatful for you doing your thing, its a great inspiration… Semper Fi…

  • Allan

    SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…………! Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! ; )

  • Allan

    OK!

  • Cool_Dave

Hey Gary and all the fellow Vayniaks!!!
QOTD – No deals/ Keep it real.
We could read that you did not like the wines but thanks for the clarification at the end anyway.
Just to be clear, I would not pay over $ 100.00 for '05 Haut Brion. Just had some Peirano and it is decent for $10.00. Had 2003 Chateau Puygueraud that (in my opinion) blows away the fakey Pride Mountain, Opus One and especially Cakebread plonk!!!! It cost ne 25 bones!!!!!
    So there.
    Love you all. Hey Mott!

  • Great job Mike!! I would love to try your Cab, that kind of cab is what I LOVE!! Send me a bottle so I can give it a Corkd review….HAHA.

  • VanEVick

Definitely revert to scoring in front of the guest – you'll come off cowardly, otherwise.

$125 Cab?! He should get serious. Probably wouldn't win a blind tasting against a good
    $40 cab.

  • thedreamweaver

QOTD: absolutely not on the guest requirement bc then it becomes a cool guy contest on who can show up the next/last guy.
QOTD # 2: man this guy sure looked like a d bag here. it sickens me when someone gets the honor of being on the show and then slaps it in the face.

also…anyone know a ballpark idea of the amount of jack it takes to make this much wine using crushpad?

  • missatiejacket

nice episode. Unfortunately I think Mike's company represents the type of producer that has been and will be most hurt by the economy's effect on the wine business. He's probably a good enough salesman to make it, though.

Gary, I like that you're hustling for us, but I wouldn't want you to require such a thing of your guests.

  • Allan

    who cares!????????

  • drt999

    Guest's QOTD — I have all I can store! I need to drink more. . . .
G's QOTD — nice idea, but I think you would find it limiting pretty quickly
