Unfortunately, I was not able to go to the pinot noir wine tasting as I had other commitments that weekend. However, I would really like the chance to drink these pinot noir wines: https://zyn.ca/collections/pinot-noir

WTF, the guest budget depleted 😉

QOTD: Gewurtztraminer, and because I like most of my veggies roasted, Shiraz/Syrah, Pinot Noir.

  • SourGrapesFC

QOTD: Beaujolais and Ratatouille. And, now that I think of it, I kind of want that right now.

  • SourGrapesFC

East of the Rockies but not east of the Mississippi? Are you a great lover of Texas vino, or is there some other secret you're holding?

  • rwino

Old world cab franc is great with stir fry or grilled veggies, also well aged zinfandel port for salad dressing over blue cheese.

  • pawncop

    Oh goodness, so many choices.

Cab Franc with grilled veggies, but steamed has got to be a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

  • RANDINTHECITY

    Uh Oh.

  • pawncop

So many choices, but grilled veggies – Cab Franc without question.

Steamed veggies – Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.

SourG, more of an expression…I have tried Arizona wines and some were very good but once again it's the high price points that make so many of states other than west coast not attractive due to size of their production. http://www.winelx.com

  • agentorange

So many veggies, so little time.

Why not bubbles, they go good, no, they go great, with everything.

  • QOTD: hmm, tough one for me since I eat vegetables with practically every wine, but I can say that Norton Malbec 2007, with all its bitterness and strong tannins, goes great with guacamole, true stone beaten guacamole ( try it )

  • JOEYdaMUSH

    screw the QOTD…

gary, stop having so many guests…the guest episodes are boring

  • jabbles

The Cab Franc play is too easy…. How about Gruner Veltliner with Asparegus??? Hell yeah!

  • laurieinvt

Too bad about the $ on that wine- it'd be fun to taste it just for the experience otherwise.

QOTD: With vegetables….favorite…green vegetables/salad probably a zin or maybe an albarino; root vegetables a bordeaux or a good syrah. That's a hard one since vegetables are almost always eaten along with other foods.
I wonder which vegetables would pair with dessert wines- roasted sweet potato wedges…?

  • jparadise

Torrontes is my go to salad wine. Other veggies are usually sitting with meat so….

  • NJ Big Chris

Interesting wine… QPR seems too low to try.

QOTD: I only eat vegetables when they are smothering a steak. And for all the vegetarians out there I'm gonna have to eat double steak portions now too. So I'd have to say a big red wine. Likely a Cab or a Syrah.

  • bobbytiger

    Strange you should ask.
Tonight we are having baked broccoli and cauliflower with almonds. The wife and her friend are drinking a Pepperwood Pinot, and I am going with Sterling Venters Chard. We also both like the Susana Crios Torrontes with our veggi meals.

  • Altboy97

QOTD – Okay how about, get out the BBQ and grill up some multi-colored bell peppers, asparagus, and zucchini (brushed with olive oil), all with a nice Zinfindel.

  • rteeley

sorry, but I have to disagree. I love the guest episodes! It's great hearing not only about the flavors of the wine, but the stories behind them and the vineyards!

  • howlr5

Château Mas Neuf Costières de Nîmes.

  • just sitting down to watch after finishing a late dinner, chicken and veggie stir fry, with a Jean-Marc Brocard St. Bris. Looking forward to seeing how upstate NY fares here.

  • MOTT! Mr. Pickle!

  • n8somm

QOTD: bottle fermented bubbles or dry Riesling, possibly Savennières, maybe Friulano… of course Tavel… for reds: Syrah and turnips, Sangiovese and tomatoes, Gamay and yams. I recently had kale and Refosco together and it was a wonderful surprise, both tasted sweeter when consumed together.

My wife is a 6 month pregnant vegetarian and I am in the wine biz so I have had lots of time to experiment with wine and veggies.

With crisp spring vegetables that are barely steamed: a Franken silvaner–a trocken kabinett goes especially well. For roasted winter root vegetables: an earthy, Old World pinot noir–unless the vegetable are accompanying a meat heavier than pork, in which case, a Dry Creek zin works would be my choice.

If we are talking about the Niagara Region, jump the border to Niagara by the lake in Canada and go to Reif estate winery, best ice wine in the world

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Mourvedre with olivey, soy-sauced, Worcestershire sauce flavored veggies. Potatoes and pinot noir. Had a Fitzpatrick Zin or red meritage that tasted like cabbage and beans. Also a light-medium bodies red from Mallorca–forget the varietal, but it was perfectly balanced and food-friendly. The C. Donatiello Chard with corn-on-the-cob. Lastly Tas Mor Can–an Elio-Perrone Barbera–fantastic with green beans and mashed potatoes.

  • leapinggnome

Gary would be in a pickle if Mott ever left WLTV.

  • LOL!

  • QOTD: so many vegetables with every meal…that stir fry we had tonight had about 6 oz. of chicken, the rest was vidala onion, garlic, raddiccio, brocollini, and mushrooms (fungus don't count I guess).

  • QOTD;Velvet Ass Rose' from Erin Glenn Winery

  • xxxxx

    gruner veltliner!!! No question!

  • jalapenonate

QOTD: Definitely Garnacha for me, I love the flavors it can bring to the table as a pairing, but because its a lighter bodied wine, I still get that fresh garden greenery flavor from the veggies.

  • Don Simpson

    Claussen pickles are the BOMB!

QOTD: As crazy as this sounds, I don't know if I've ever paired wine with vegetables… When I think back I've always had wine with some type of meat. Intriguing… Never realized until now.

  • flavasauce

Sancerre immediately “springs” to mind with any asparagus and goat cheese.

  • boomy13

Hate to play devils advocate, but what kind of veggies? Quick answer, when I think veggies Im thinking Pinot Noir. Whites just dont sound right, too sweet. Heavy full bodied reds dont make me think veggies. If not Pinot Noir, I would say old world Merlot out of France.

  • theDude

Oh……if I had remained a lurker I wouldn't have to think of something to write. Sometimes I just don't have anything to say………….why do you make me write comments after every show GV????? Why can't I just take a break sometimes!!!!!!

I don't like veggies unless they are made into ketchup or corn on the cob the way the good Lord intended! I've had corn cob wine…..not so good. Also had dandelion wine….its not any better.

the Dude needs a nap……nite, nite all

  • GFish

GV – As always, good to have you back and doing shows.

QOTD – It really depends on what veggies and how they are prepared. Sauteed is different than in a salad with dressing which is different than cooked, etc.. I pair wine more with the entree than a side dish. As a general thing I'd go with a Moscato D'Asti (or a maybe a slightly sweet Reisling) just for the deliciousness and sugar (plus my friends are sweet wine junkeys). There are other tight parings but it really depends on how veggies are prepared and presented.

    GFish – Peace and Jets

  • CharlieTN

    Chinon comes to mind.

  • Illegal_Formation

    Another show with expensive Pinots…Whuck?!?

QOTD: Whatever wine I'm having with the meat that the veg is served with.

  • theDude

    Point#1: agreed
    Point#2: you're wrong

  • theDude

Only one answer per one lame question please.

  • josh

    I like…
… Sancerre with mild simply prepared veg. like english peas
… Gruner with grilled asparagus or zucchini
    … Chardonnay with mashed potatoes
… Malbec with roasted root veg. and braised greens
… Spanish Rose with raw leafy greens
… Pinot with roasted mushrooms (kind of an obvious one)

  • “Wine Library TV… brought to you by Mott”

QOTD: Since you've got me on a kick for Loire Valley whites, I'm going to have to say a 2008 Vouvray

  • Pat__B

    QOTD: Roasted eggplant & riesling

  • dustintobin

    Favorite wine with Vegetables….. CHINON!

  • tacomabrian

Gary, Just wanted to say thanks for the great job that you do.
    THANKS

  • chukheadted

    white cabernet sauvignon

  • The very last lurker

    “lighter versions of chianti”

    I completely agree.

  • Writing off NY state Riesling is a big mistake.

  • From “sausage sandwich sausage sandwich sausage sandwich” to a wine that goes along with veggies? Hm.. Not a wine expert to answer that but love the social media thing.. Great job!

  • Anonymous

Tom, I am not a big Riesling fan..but I have tried Dr. Frank K and his were very good, I just find many NY reds terrible and overpriced. http://www.winelx.com
