Funny…this guy obviously knows his stuff, makes great wine, and is a decent geezer. But! He’s the most boring guest ever on WLTV. GV struggling to keep interested for most of this episode. I’d love to try the wines but just don’t lock me in a room with this guy…zzzzzzz

  • Cool guest. Stay strong and keep your style.

Always enjoy hearing the Australian accent that I once had, reminds me of a distant homeland. Great guest, no bullshit, he makes what he makes. More importantly, he tries to incorporate balance and structure to his admirably fruit forward and bold wines. Like GV says, a big dude with class and balance to spare, I will be looking for Two Hands.

My QOTD to GV and all Vayniacs from the East Coast: Is there more imports available on the east side than CA? Granted, I do not get out of the winery much, but I believe there to be a decent selection of imports from GV's (and others) favorite European, Australian South American et. all producers. Are we missing out in the west coast? (All CA bashing aside, I am talking about out of state and mostly international producers here)

    Having some bubbles this evening!

Deutz NV Brut Classic. Will be back……

  • Allan

    I agree tooooo! He wouldn't give a s****

And he can wait till the cameras turned off, and then punch him in da face!! ; )

    G'bye mate!

  • Wednesdays are often busy…we both get back from work late…my wife has a clay studio night, and it's home winery night for me and my helpers, so it's always a late one. We are hustling to get the crushpad ready for the Chilean grapes which we hope show up next week. Last night we had a Corvina that we made two years ago, and it was showing nicely.

  • …but it got so late, I crashed before my download of the episode completed. Should have started it earlier, so I'm watching now over lunch.

  • Allan

    Sasha RULES!

  • SourGrapesFC

It's great to see a guy that KNOWS his business but LOVES his wine. I'm always a little skeptical when producers bring their own juice to the show, but Mr. Twelftree is clearly much more interested in discussing the wine– and selling the artistry of it overall– than he is in moving product. A class act with a distinctive Australian style (even without the accent, there would be no doubt that this guy's an Auzzie). Looking forward to part II.

It's a really cool guest GV's brought on here…. Will be exciting to hear/see GV's reaction to the last wine……….. Ares. It might be a HAIR! young.
The Ares is one for the ages i'm sure.

What Two Hands have you tried???

  • kurtswa

Great episiode. Have had Two Hands wines many times. Cool to actually see and hear from the producer. Would like to see more of the usual GV feedback though. He alludes several times to the “Sniffy. Sniffy” but you did not do it. Would also like to see more feedback from GV on the taste profile. You just mentioned these were both “BIG” wines many times.
Great episode though. Can't wait to see part 2.

  • Allan

    Deutz NV Brut Classic. Great.

Baked apple, toast. Nuts in my mouth….?
Mushrooms. Creamy finish. Well The Finish is amazing and long.

Congrats to Australia on the first Snooker World Champion! Neil Robertson. Nice going Neil, i challenge you to a fight! ; )

    I'm not that bad.

Yep. We’re hosting this month (postponed from April). The original three couples plus a couple that joined last spring.

  • mattgmann

I have a few different from Campo Viejo to try out. Crianza 06, rioja reserva 03, gran reserva 01. I actually popped the cranza last night. Bleh. Non offensive, but flabby. Some tannins held it together, and some acidity (though raw) helped it out. Drinkable wine for $8, but that's about it. Might be time for some sangria.

  • mattgmann

people play snooker other than in old movies?

  • Allan

    Ha! Not funny dude!

  • Allan

    C V isn't bad. I've had it! Me Likey-like! ; )

  • theDude

Snooker rules! (I don't know where but I'm sure somewhere)

  • theDude

Sniffy sniff……..rinsey rinse………how cute! Add drinkey drink and you'll have the trifecta. (I think I just threw up a little bit.)

  • theDude

(I did not miss the reference to the Big Lebowski. The Dude says Michael is automatically awesome and everyone should buy his wine)

  • DAveAll

good guest, good information from him. Sounds like he should have called it Hand over Fist, meaning he's making money “hand over fist”. ha. I was typing more then i realize there is a part 2 co…..

  • Capt_M

What do you mean this style of wine will come back? I love Two Hands wines. I feel a lot of admiration for them. They're meaningful, opulent, fruit fueled, and definitely a bang for your buck. Very newsworthy, loveworthy wines.

  • Avec

Please, It's Ore-eh-gun, NOT OREGONE! Love you Vaynee!

  • Pat__B

Interesting angle in this episode. Enjoyed hearing about the business considerations for Michael in making and marketing his wine. Admire the guy.

Soooo excited to see MT's mug! Can't wait to watch both parts…

  • That’s great that you are still rolling…Thursdays are a tough one for us, but maybe we’ll be able to come over and meet you some day. Cheers!

  • plcb

I'm enjoying the heck out of this interview. I have a lot of respect for his wines. I understand why they sell very well even in PA.

  • adriannehanusek

I totally agree about the label issue. People say they don't do it, but they do…it's branding people!

Thursdays never worked for us, either. We went with Fridays until recently. We’ve tried Saturday afternoon the last two times which seemed to be easier for everyone (harder to synch schedules, but we’ll see how it goes). Either way, Vermont’s just not that big, so hopefully we will be able to meet at some point! 🙂

  • Mike in C-town

Last saw him on a webcast tasting with Snooth, and Michael (excellent name by the way) is so damn likeable. PASSIONATE about the entire wine industry. Great knowledge (again) dropped on how he started, his understanding of his wine's place in the market and of what he wants his wine to be.
I would have liked more tasting notes on the individual wines.
    On to part 2…

  • Cool, Saturday afternoons sounds more do-able. I frequently head through your neck of the woods that day on the way to see my family over on the NY side of Lake Champlain. Hey, you and your friends may be interested in the VT wine event calendar we are trying to keep updated. If you have any restaurants over there that you know are wine conscious and do dinners/tastings please turn me on to them so I can monitor.

  • waynoooo daaaaa winoooo

    Time for Part Deux…….

  • mattfromuk

Hey Gary! This is the first episode you've reviewed a wine I have in my wine rack! The Two Hands Gnarly Dudes, looking forward to trying it now! I normally find that most of the wines you review are hard to get hold of here in the UK. Keep up the good work!

  • DCaragher

GV – Another great two parter! Love the two hands, wish I could say I've had more of them! Looking forward to part two!

    QOTD: Do you read CORK'D???

  • John_Kenneth_J

I enjoy when you have winemaker's from other countries when you have a guest on, it's nice to see their points of view on wine and wine making.

  • Randall

Hand Over Fist???? Yeah… he's buying out several small countries since Bill Gates won't, last I heard… douche!!

  • Randall

What about the “spitey spit”? 🙂

  • theDude

    Good one!

  • Nik_B

Excellent guest – he seems incredibly amicable and honest.

  • JiminAtlanta

Very interesting episode so far. Michael seems like a very good dude. I look forward to part 2.

  • JayZee13

Gotta love those Aussies! Fun episode so far…

  • WesMcAllister

I am so far behind but I am going to get caught up again. It is hard to crush it and watch WLTV. Less sleep is the answer.

Two Hands makes some very good wines…good stuff…I wish his wines were $15… http://www.winelx.com
