    what a show.
tks Gary for sharing this with us and let the vayniacs know about this kind os things. Because of the show even here in Brazil we now know about this great, awesome project and this great guy.

QOFT: As a med student i deal with it all the time, and its really sad. But i just don't know how would i react.

  • I would research every avenue before considering treatment. Budge is a wonderful man and I wish him and his charity all the best.

  • BigBen

It's so touching to see someone so real on the show and it's funny that the show was todays because it's the first episode I've seen in almost five months (busy with school, and getting married, and everything else…). My wife isn't a big wine fan but she loves to watch the show because you and your guests come across as such “real” people who really care about what they do. Thank you Gary for what you do, for being an inspiration to many of us, and for keeping with the positive attitude, which is always appreciated.
Qotd: My mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer about a year and a half ago. It may be opinion on our parts but the first thing she did was let the family know and we prayed together as a family. Whether or not you are a religious person there is something to be said for the psychological power of family prayer. If for nothing else than retaining a positive attitude and reaffirming that family support, it is something I would recommend to anyone. Faith can be a great asset to healing (there again even if you are not a religious person) because of its ability to create strong emotional bonds between people, which can have an extreme effect on a person's strength and ability to fight through a such a tough situation. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after my mother found out about her's and we took the same approach. Along with competent medical professionals and a loving and supportive family they have both made it through.

First comment on here. Loved the show. Wow.

  • Thanks GV for another great guest. And I can watch this content without any commercials! The Post from Scotty the only blemish so far. Huge kudos for the service you provide to the Vayniacs. I will email this to some buddies for sure and keep an eye out for the cleavage creek.

This was a great show, the man is on a mission and I applaude him. Gary kudos for doing this episode. The wines were good, how about that and at a great price. I also agree with Budge that blended wines can add for me an extra level of taste.

QOTD; For me research, research and research. The problem is paying for it. As you know health care insurance is expensive and with numerous limitations built into it.

  • bdshupe

Briefly skimming through the comments. I think I would have to agree with most of others. Research every aspect of the disease and layout all treatments possible. I'm sure most people aren't as educated as well as they need to be before getting cancer.

I feel its important to make a decision as a family while keeping the patient's opinions, health, and well being the upmost priority.

Excellent cause and I wish you the very best.

    Bryan

  • Great cause, great man, great show! Hats off for doing this one Gary. Great content!

QOTD: I would hit the Internet. We are so lucky to live in a time where so much information can be found so quickly and when individual experiences can be communicated across the planet.

  • Gary and Budge – great show!
My wife was told she had leukemia three days before her 29th birthday. She had a bone marrow transplant on May 26, 2000 and we are celebrating her 10 year BMT anniversary with a trip to the Big Apple (her favorite city) in a few weeks. One of the things we enjoy now more than ever is a good bottle of wine. Thanks for making this episode!

QOTD: Do some research, but don't get overloaded. Contact and advocacy group (like the American Cancer Society) and have them put you in touch with a person who is similar to you and who has survived.

  • liko sf

Gary – Great show and a great call on putting it on the Hall of Fame/Favorite Episodes. Thank you for bringing on a truly great person.

QOTD: Definitely do a lot of research. After listening to this show I would recommend women to seek alternative treatments similar to the one's that Budge spoke about.

  • jtp375

Great show, guys. Budge, thanks for sharing your story and for making a difference. The world should be filled with more people like you.
Gary, see what you can do to get some of this at W.L. You could probably move a LOT of this wine.

QOTD: Research as a lot of others have stated. Also, would want to talk to you for all of your insight.

  • Gary,
Thanks for supporting Budge's worthy cause and helping get the word out about breast cancer. Eight months ago, my 29 year old wife was diagnosed with breast cancer (you met her at a book signing in Seattle and wore a pink bracelet for her on your show). She successfully completed 18 rounds of chemotherapy and is now recovering from a bilateral mastectomy she underwent two weeks ago. She was lucky in that she had a complete pathologic response to the chemo. She still has radiation and a reconstruction ahead of her, but she has handled the situation wonderfully and has always kept an upbeat attitude, despite this disease turning her life upside down at such a young age. We will definitely look to support Budge and enjoy many of the delicious wines he and his small group produce.

QOTD: Having been there before, a cancer diagnosis is accompanied by a steep learning curve. Researching as much as possible and asking questions of medical professionals as well as survivors really helped us come to terms with the road ahead and gave us hope for a positive outcome and a fulfilling future.

  • Displaced NJ fan

Someone mentioned what a huge heart you have Gary. Absolutely. You and Budge did an incredible job of handling a delicate subject with class and sensitivity.

QOTD: Screen screen screen. I'm not a fan of mammos either but they're a tool in what should be in every woman's tool box. I alternate every six months betw/an MRI and a mammo.

Curious though – the common recommendation is that women watch their alcohol intake — as there could be a link between breast cancer and alcohol consumption…

  • wabi47

    really really nice and motivated guy; i cant agree with some of his thinking, but i will continue to buy his wine;

  • Amazing show! Cheers to Budge and may your mission live on well. Please check out….

    Great message!

    Blessings!

  • I met Budge on twitter and I think he is amazing. I just wrote a blog post about Cleavage Creek and Budge in tribute to my mom for Mothers day. You can read it here: http://comeforthewine.blogspot.com/
I tried four of the Cleavage Creek wines and the Secret Red was my favorite.
Thanks Gary for giving Budge the time and respect he deserves for such a heartfelt and worthy endeavor.

  • rickbakas

Good to see Budge moving the brand forward. Three years ago, I helped Budge launch this brand in the state of Colorado.

It really is important to point out Budge's 10% of *sales* and not just profit. And he does it off the top before the wine is even sold.
If Budge ever tells you the story about he and his wife there won't be a dry eye in the room.

    Nice work pimping Cleavage Creek.

*as a side note, at SXSWi I was sitting in the seminar where Drew from Blame Drew's Cancer along with Brian Simpson (@bsimi) were talking about tweeting through cancer.
Gary was in there, and before he left, Gary promised to Drew and Brian he would do what he could to bring awareness to the fight against cancer. I see this WLTV as GaryVee keeping that promise.

  • Budge Brown is awesome.. I am speechless (almost). Can't wait to try his wines. Thanks, GV for a wonderful show.

QOTD: Chemo doesn't always work, can be brutal, but has saved lives… no question. Early detection is key…(and get the best health insurance you can afford ).

  • castello

Great cause! Us Vayniacs can help.

  • divyamistry

Makes me overjoyed to see Budge and all that he is doing. Would definitely seek out these wines.

QOTD: I'd say probably first step would be to talk to other patients who have survived it, and to the family member of patients who weren't as fortunate. They would have invaluable input into what to do, and what not to do. And more than that, hopefully encourage you for not being fearful.

  • YoungDave

This guest is a man who is truly devoting his life to something selfless and positive for an extremely important cause. What a trooper Budge is, and kudos to the G man's intuition for booking him on the show. I would seek these wines out in a heartbeat. Cheers.

QOTD: I'd probably consult the family members who have spent their lives in the medical field and who are also female- for example my Mom and Aunt who are both nurses. I would also try to speak to survivors and find out about the steps they took after being diagnosed, and I expect that the community of women who have, and who still are dealing with this disease, would be a great outlet and asset for anyone who is encountering this not-necessarily-terminal disease at the onset.

  • kasperhip

This show really seems like an all-time great to me already, alone by the sheer brilliance of Budge Brown's personality, and the fact that Gary does well to bring up touchy subjects with honesty and grace.
QOTD: I guess I would try and learn as much as possible in order to make a sound decision on what to do. When I was done crying, that is….

Godspeed Budge. The world needs more people like you.

  • QOTD: Health topics can be really personal. I who have had some health scares in my times quickly got over the embassasing element of personal health. Once you have been through something like a serious ill health your about promoting it so more people are aware and willing to talk about it, hence get checked up! I continue to encourage people to see their Dr even for a simple blood test to see if there aren't any baddies floating around you dont know of. You dont have to feel sick to be sick.

  • trumpetboy101

Hey that was seriously deep. The info about the success rate of the clinic (and the fail rate of the mamogram etc) was quite surprising. Suppose it's a little bit different here in England though.

QOTD: Research research research. I mean as I said, I'm in England and we have the NHS so there's relly just a single path that one takes regarding treatment. But I do think it's important to know exactly what is going on.

  • Amazing!

  • kv47

    Just phenomenal!!

  • Dominic Sicotte

Gary, Thanks for bringing those phenomenal guests on your show. Very inspiring and you know what, since I can't buy this wine and have it shipped here (since I am in Montreal… and that we are goverment controlled here), I will check on his website if there's anything we can do from up here. Have a great day all!

  • Allan

    Four words:

    CLASS ACT!

    &

    Budge Rocks!

Stupendous show G, the guests on the show these last couple of weeks have all been A+
This guys cause is just phenomenal & heartbreaking all at once. Vayniacs, buy these wines!! I can't unfortunately. If i could, i would.

Qotd: Pop the good stuff i have lying around and say a little prayer… : 0 )

All the best to you Budge. You were so real… Thanks for that!

  • drt999

QOTD — I did a ton of research and then supported her decisions

  • seb10

That was a great show. Thanks to mr. Brown for supporting his freat cause. The wine was great too. That shows ya what small quantities and a lot of love can do.
QOTD: I really wouldn't know. The sheer horror. In the Netherlands where I live health care is of a high standard and the way to approach it is similiar in all hospitals. So this whole nightmare of hoping to choose the right hospital, doctor, treatment isn't so likely. Must be awful.
    Love Seb

  • seb10

Is this supposed to be funny or are you trying to tell something to mr Brown ?

  • mike

QOTH: Stay positive! During my mothers treatment for breast cancer her optimism was infectious and inspiring. Research the many options and believe.

Thank you, Budge for all you do. You are top shelf and I wish you all the best.

  • Mango

Hello my name is Mango and I am a Lurker.

Great show. I hope Gary gets some retail.

  • Richie

Woah! That was the most emotional episode ever and I don't think there will be one along any time soon that would be more so. Great guy! Great cause! Keep it up Budge!
QOTD: Go somewhere you always wanted to go and drink the wine you always wanted to no matter what.

  • Mike S

Great guest, great cause…Budge is the real deal.

  • ONUMello

Budge, how are the '04s that are on super-sale drinking now? That's a screaming price & I would love some, but you talked about the wines being made to drink young & those have got a few years on them.
This is a great episode & hit close to home as my mom was diagnosed with DCIS last fall & made it great through both surgery/radiation, she just has 4.5 years of tamoxifen left. I have an aunt who had the same and is doing great now.

QOTD: Research. My mom and I both spent hours looking over information online about the best kind of surgery to have, the best drugs to take, and then she made sure the doctors involved in her care had answers that supported the information she found.

I'll also throw in that I personally 100% recommend yearly mammograms- while they may not be perfect and may be painful, they are still one of the best & most cost-effective diagnostic tools available for breast cancer. Without them, both my mom & aunt's cases would not have been found because of the lack of lump/tiny size of the tumor.

  • Budge, keep up the great work! I see a glass of that Petite Sirah in my future, hopefully.

QOTD: I would say that communication is key. Properly imparting the situation to your family and friends would be first, so that you could properly set up a support structure. I feel that no matter what treatment is sought, having loved ones to support you is necessary.

  • Pipes

    I'm baaaa-aaaack! 😉
What a great day for me to decide to start watching again. Wow. 🙂
I love Budge, I love the project. Sounds like the wines are top-notch; I will definitely seek them out here in CA when they get set up. I loved being able to hear what Budge had to say regarding breast cancer treatments.
Great show!!!! Thanks, Gary and Budge!
QOTD: The next thing I would do is try to find out as much factual information about the specific tumor as possible, and then seek a doctor who has specific experience treating that type of tumor.

  • MaGil

    Lurker alert…

    Thanks for another great show.
    QOTD- cry like a baby

  • Kmurph

    thanks for that clarification Rick!

  • PearlGirlWhirl

    QOTD:
    1. Get a second & third opinion.
    2. Look for a treatment center–would now most likely go to the one you support, Budge.

Thanks so much to you both!…………and for the wines, too!

  • Lb_in_KS

what a great guy! you can't help to like him and to pull for him. great guest.
qotd… I guess I would have to say…educate myself. Seems the Dr.'s these days say NOT to go and google after a diagnosis…to me, I find that curious in and of it's self. I understand not wanting to “muddy the water”…..but, if they say not to inform myself of options, I have to wonder.

  • Todd

I'd probably head down to Mexico and visit the Gerson Institute…
Charlotte Gerson also believes you can't heal with poison.
Jerry Brunetti is another person I would learn as much as I could from.

“I will apply dietic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.”-Hippocrates

  • Capt_M

What a touching episode! What a beautiful cause. Made me drop a tear or two. Very, very well done, Gary! Makes me love wine even more, and love life even more. QOTD: I would look for the absolute best physician, medical center, and medical treatment possible, and I would embrace and love that person all the more and more each day.

  • Anonymous

Just trying to point a small irony in all this

  • WineWoman

Definitely a project to support. Such a nice caring informative man. Amazing how anyone could swindle him.

QOTD: Research your doctors, find one you have trust in and design a plan that you believe fits your needs. The doctors offer their opinions and expertise and you as the patient must articulate what you feel is best for yourself. If the doctor disagrees or you feel uncomfortable about the choices he or she recommends, move on to another professional. Have enough of opinions and doctors working together as a team. Biggest complaint with battling an illness is many times there are so many doctors on your case and none of them communicate with each other.

  • Tony

Beautiful Gary. Thank you for getting behind such an important cause. Budge is lovely. Thank you Budge for doing so much to help so many women and everyone who love them with all of your support.

  • ChrisV

Great guest. Would definitely buy some of this wine if I lived in the US.

  • davidemillombard

Thanks for having Budge on, Gary. You may not know this about me, but I teach people prevention through lifestyle and this episode is definitely near and dear. People have the ability, through lifestyle choices, to cleanse, replenish, & alkalize their body, modify ways to deal with stress (lower cortisol), get exercise, and really take control. Disease is really spelled DISease. From a holistic standpoint, when one thing isn't going right for someone, even emotionally, it can manifest in disease. This has been known for thousands of years. What has also been known is its treatment; just like prevention comes from superfoods of the earth, so does treatment like what Budge is bringing to the table.

So 1) people deserve to address prevention (nutritional cleansing, holistic life choices) and 2) If they find out they have the disease, speak with loved ones and open communication lines. I believe in Naturopathic doctors and that everything we require to heal anything is here on earth.

We live in a time when the “SICKCare” Industry is in control, and doctors admittedly get their education from Pharma company reps. Its was shown by a man who won 3 noble prizes that every major disease can be traced to some form of mineral difficiency.

Its time to take better care, treat prevention -not symptoms, and address ways to alkalize our body and keep it from being acidic (thats how cancer survives). Surprisingly, the number one documented thing is people can do to lower coritsol & alkalize their body is embrace Forgiveness to people in their lives.

I know we'll be making a contribution and getting some great wine. Thanks again for the opportunity.
