  • Did she have the BRCA mutation? That is what my wife has. She had both her breasts removed at the age of 30 to decrease the chance of it coming back. Good luck to your mother.

  • Ok…wow what a story! Yes gary PERFECT!

  • TooYoungToDrink

This was a very powerful episode. Thank you for sharing your story with us Budge! Great show!!

  • Love Petie Sirah

  • corkscrew

Another good guest. Have not tried any of these wines, love Petit Sirah. http://www.winelx.com

  • TempestJones

I've been watching since around episode 500 and this will be my first post. In the time since I started watching, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thanks so much for this Gary, it means a lot to see that people still care about others.

  • BobWied

What a heart-felt episode. I thank Budge for persevering. He's helping to advance the solution to breast cancer, and my hat's off to him. Great show!

  • One of my favorite episodes!

  • dann_in_nh

Very nice change in the show's dialogue. This has to be one of the best show yet. I admire you for putting it in the “Favorite Episode” spot because it was. Budge was genuine, which is what WLTV is all about.
    Gary, great selection.
    QOTD: I will pass

  • Crazy good episode. I would pay 2x+ for a crack at that Secret Red!

QOTD: If wife was diagnosed we would turn to the thousands of brave survivors who are out there for advice.

  • Xarkkon

First comment ever after watching for half a year. Just want to say a very big thank you to Budge for this very special project. Good luck and I'll be sure to buy some of your wines if I ever come across them in Singapore

  • guymandude

Great, Great show . Your a good man Budge.

Wish you shipped to my state.

    qotd; Explore your options.

  • cellarrat5

Wow, at first I did not read the whole thing. This is absurd, moderators get on this shiot!

  • Maybe some of us ought to give the Hotel Restaurant Manager a ring…the phone number is there, and tell him/her that the sommelier is trying hard, but wrong place, wrong time, wrong way.
He obviously did not read Crush It! for some basic ground rules.

  • cellarrat5

Great episode for a great cause. I believe this was one of the best interviews you have done Gary, and perfect timing for such an important message. You adapted to his comments and cadence seamlessly, and managed to keep the interruptions to a minimum. It was obvious you were trying your best to keep moving while accommodating everything he had to say. Fantastic job, both Gary and his Guest.

QOTD: I have very little experience in this matter, and have no clue what I would do if someone close to me was diagnosed. I suppose I would try and support them in any way possible. It would be all I could do.

  • Fantastic epsiode. Budge obviously is a tremendous human being, massive amounts of respect for you both, and I wish you much success, such a great cause. Now, if only I didn't live in such a stupid state (PA).

ALTHOUGH, after talking with some people, apparently the Chairman of the PLCB says there is no way to enforce the current PA shipping laws, and has said it's ok to ship direct into PA now? This could just be a rumor, but I would love if it's true.

    Anyway, great man, great episode!

  • Kittysafe

Amazing question of the day. Explore your options, bottom line.
What a great guest, my heart goes out to him and to the cause.
I will be looking for this wine to support this worthy cause.

  • rasjahsun

from anger to action…gotta love budge for loving his wife and doing something to help others.
    bravo!!
i will absolutely support this cause. gary, thank you for giving us all a chance to make a difference. best show yet.
    cheers ~

  • When I was an adolescent I watched chemo destroy my grandmother's body in very short order, and was left with a deep feeling that she was more part of a medical experiment than a healing process. Granted, 25 years ago they barely knew what they were doing, and the levels of “meds” were way higher than they are now, but the process is still far too invasive, and pharmacuetical companies are making far too much money from it.

  • Louiew37

It's all about the people, wine and all, isn't it? I loved the story, great job going beyond wine and walking in the wild side. Gary, you are a good man!!!

  • dsallen

I love Sangiovese — I want that secret red!

QOTD: Lots of research and lots of prayer!

  • BrianG

ive watched every episode and this is the first comment ive left and the first time i cried during an episode. what an amazing show!

  • eliotfagley

Wow. As a wine-lover, husband, and physician, I was touched on every level by this episode. Thank you for shining your light on this incredibly difficult disease.

QOTD – I would take my wife to the Caribbean, her favorite place, and beg her to wear a bikini for the entire trip.

  • Kyle

There is so much that I disagree with in this episode, but the man himself seemed true and passionate, and I respect that. I'll bite my tongue for now, overall a great episode.

  • adrums

An extremely moving, important show, to say the least. Hats off to Budge and his cause, and to Gary + the WLTV crew for having him on.
QOTD: lots of research, including dietary considerations, since this is a subject about which western medicine, for all of it's value and importance in many areas, is woefully ignorant…

  • cynthiacosco

Awesome wine for a great cause…thanks Gary for airing it…

  • OMG, you have got to be kidding me…a distributor stiffed Budge and the label!!?? That is disgraceful!!!! How can you do something like that?
Budge, tell me who they are and I'll be glad to register them at the pillory http://www.nopaywinedistributors.com/ it's for real, and this is a GREAT reason to post them.

  • BuddhaChu

As a three year cancer survivor (Hodgkin's Lymphoma), I approve of this show! 😉

    QOTD:

    1) Research your disease & type on the internet at LEGIT web sites, like webmd.com, cancer.gov, cancer.org, nfcr.org, etc
    2) Check potential doctors using healthgrades.com
    3) Seek out a breast cancer support group and ask the members for doctor suggestions and feedback
    4) Seek out a mentor from the American Cancer Society. They have breast cancer survivors that help counsel women that are newly diagnosed.

My wife's mamogram had some spots or what ever they called them , they told her about them and told us to make another appoitment. We had to wait 2 weeks. Thank god is was just a mistake, but that was to weeks of hell. I have been in a war and it was not as bad as those two weeks. Tears, sick with worrie, scared. Again, she is fine and it was just whatever,
I am an old solider, and I where pink hats, WITH PRIDE DAMIT.

  • wineqpr

I had several Cleavage Creek wines back in the summer of 2002 in San Diego, CA. I've never forgot them, as they were some of my firsts wines ever! I just sent an email to the people I drank them with. We even brought a bottle into Ruths' Chris Steak House for dinner–represent!!! Great show, great casue. Thanks Budge!

  • eliotfagley

I, too, disagree with some of the things, in this episode, but I don't think this is the forum to discuss that. I think it's enough that Budge is pushing Breast CA research forward, and, as you said, you have to respect his passion.

  • thnx Kyle and Eliot for that!

  • thnx bri!

  • thnx Xarkkon

  • Thnx TempestJones!

  • This guest brought the Thunder, oh yes.

QOTD: One thing I would do is take a big breath and think about the process of procuring care and write down as much as I can and start by researching every specialty treatment for oncology that relates to the specific type.

    Something like that.

  • Altboy97

Great job, thanks Gary for giving back. Wish this guy all the success in the world.

  • TheNose

Great show! Great Cause! Nice bonus to see that the wines came through …
    QOTD: Panic.

  • Thanks so much for being on the show and for the work you do. I have a close friend, like another grandmother, that has survived and is thriving into her late 80's now…because of her sugar she needs to lay off the the wine except for special occasions. Cleavage Creek can't ship to VT, but that's OK, I'll ship it to my parent's place in NY where I wil see her in a few more weeks, and can share some with her.
QOTD: pray that that day does not come, but be centered, focused, and supportive if it does, and pay attention to quality of life. Budge's wife was married to a wonderful man…guys, take this as an example.

  • Great show Gary. I think we all should each be buying up at least 1 bottle of Budge's wine. There's a bottle priced for each of us from the $18 secret red to the $50 cab. Just choose how much you can give to their cause.

QOTD: I can only speak for myself. If I was diagnosed with cancer the first two things I would (in this order)
    1. Buy and eat a half gallon of my favorite ice cream
    2. Call my twin brother and tell him (not about the ice cream although that would be a good opener)

  • great information, thanks.

  • Thanks GV…serious points for this one…employing the platform for a greater good.

  • number one episode of all time. not just of wine library. of anything I've ever seen on the internet.
no kidding. no overhype. Lost friends to cancer this year.
    thank you.
QOTD: Pray until I couldn't anymore.

  • xcalybur

Amazing episode. I truly feel for this lovely man and give my condolences to him and his family for his wife's passing. I was choked up and really need to see how to get some of his wine.

  • SamKw

Budge, thank you for sharing your heartbreakingly touching story with us all. And thank you for doing what you do. That you can channel your pain into this great project is nothing less than sublime. I think this was the most heartwarming episode ever on WLTV!

QOTD: Six years ago, one of my uncles was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which is one of the deadliest forms of cancer with extremely low survival rates. With the help of my dad, who used to be in the alternative medicine and health supplement business for some time, he took the time to research the options that he had. He did undergo a surgery and radiotherapy, but he complemented the procedures with alternative methods and opted out of chemotherapy. He told me that none of the pancreatic cancer patients whom he knew at the hospital at the time were fortunate enough to make it past a year. My uncle, on the other hand, is not only alive but healthy at this point. I'm not suggesting that alternative medicine is panacea, but as Budge would agree, it's defintely worth considering at least as supplementary measures.
As for what I would do if I were in that situation – well, remember that it's not the end of the road, and stay positive.

  • jimo55

    Gary,

Great show and great guest. Bigtime passion to make a difference. This is what makes WLTV so compelling. Who needs television? I would never have guessed when I saw this episode in my inbox how much of an impact it would have. Great work. Keep it coming.

    QOTD: Research, lots of research.

  • thnx DW!~

  • ChrisNY2

    Great show.
QOTD: This is a fantastic question because this is really something everyone needs to think about and become knowledgeable on no matter where they are in their life. Breast cancer can arise in anyone..even a small percentage of males…so everyone should become educated so they will know their own options as well as be able to support the women that they care about in their lives.

  • Great great show. GV your a great guy for having him on and for showing an honest interest. Don't get me wrong, I still think you're a dirty Jets fan but in situations like this, your big heart really shows. I will do my best on this end to spread Budge Brown's message.

QOTD: Drop to my knees and pray.

  • John_Kenneth_J

Great episode great guest great cause, looking forward to trying their petite sirah

qotd: not to sure outside of investigating all options and treatments before making any decisions
