Pretty average episode apart from a great quote of the day; ‘Mott is a huge pot smoker!’

  • QOTD: Cheateauneuf du Pape, coz it's hard to get em here in malaysia. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!

  • Allan

    R.I.P. Dennis Hopper

  • Snapped a photo with Dailybooth of me checking it out on the iPhone.

QOTD: I don't get to drink anything often enough to have a special occasion wine. Wine is my special occasion drink.

(Also: Gotta say that the occasional guest is not a bad idea. It's been months since I've had a chance to check out an episode, but Colin's mentioning that he was guesting got me over here. And I'm glad that I got a chance to check this one out.)

  • Thanks for watching (you should always watch WLTV!) and thanks for the photo!

  • Hey, we're OK with the ladies lovin' the Port too. πŸ™‚ ha!

  • Great job…………..Mott.
QOTD: I don't know because my taste keep changing. But if I needed a tension breaker right now I would say; Domaine De La Maurelle Gigondas. I love those leathery notes and dry fruit accents. Now that I'm thinking about it I need to buy more.

  • Mike in C-town

80% Gary, 20% Mott but that 20% makes it all the better. Like how a cab sauv wine is so much beter with a dose of cab franc.

    QOTD: Any dessert wine

  • QOTD: @HessCollection Late Harvest Chardonnay…. palate far too sweet for me, maybe half a glass every once and a while, but the nose is like heaven

  • I guess I'm always stuck in a rut cause I love the same wines. I've not had a port so I'd love to try it. QOTD: Amontillado. I'm a huge literature geek and love Poe's work so when I spotted some for the first time I had to get it. It was excruciatingly sweet. I'm a sweet wine person and it was over powering for me. I liked it, it had a raisin taste to it but nothing I could handle all the time.

  • FullOnNelson

That was a kick ass “guys” episode! The sign-off at the end made my day.

Gary, I know you don't like rating dessert wines because of the “delicious” factor, but I think more dessert wines are in order. Vin Santo? Beerenauslese? Sherry? Sherry! I would love to see you break down Sherry on WLTV!

Side QOTD: Mott is about 50% of the show. You can't have a TV show without a camera man.

QOTD: Dessert wines. I have a couple eisweins stored for those special occasions. Port as well.

  • Bourbon County is one helluva stout.

  • rieslingrich

A German Auslese with blue cheese or dessert
I had a great “Cabernet” Port from Shafer (Napa) only available at winery.

  • teckdeck2008

Not the most wine knowledgeable person but I give him props for following the show and being part of the viddler team that got you lookin all legit and stuff :p
Qotd1: I would say 80% Gary and 20% Mott, because Mott is important as a sounding board. But not for the wine knowledge, his tasting ability is getting up there though.
Qotd2: I tend to drink pretty quickly, but I always like to have a light and a heavy wine available so that I can mix and match with any food I might be cooking.

  • Thanks for another great show.

QOTD – Riesling is kinda like that for me. Don't like it on the day to day, but there are those summertime days when I really want something light and refreshing and it fits the bill.

  • teckdeck2008

Another thing that will help is you could get the air pump bottle cap system. Its a relatively cheap way to make wine last about 4 times longer. So a white can last one and a half to two weeks. Red 3 to 4 weeks, port maybe even 5 weeks. not sure about the port though. either way its much longer than 5 days.

  • JonaC7

These shows rock! Gary, you make wine fun… errr… well it was fun already but you make it funner (I don't think that's actually a word but you do).

    Jona

  • Loved Colin and the show! Laid Back Friday rocks.

Side QOTD: I say it's like a Flying V (no pun intended) of the WLTV crew.

QOTD: Port or dessert on the wine side. Whiskey on the liquor side. Beer: Belgian or Belgian-style cellared items.

  • Well, It is a good idea to think wine and occasion and or state of mind. Just as the guest points out in his question of the day. I do wonder about your “blog” . It seems to be a bit of a e-commerce site. Nice map, though, of the regions and what to focus on when trying the different wines from Portugal.
I don't agree that port is overrated. I think it is underrated. Very few drink it because they think its just sweet.
As a Swede I cannot order any from you since that would incorparate a lot of red tape to get the wines to my home. Taxes to pay, transport documents to be made ect..

  • isn't it a bit early for that πŸ˜€

    SPAMALAMA!

  • I like the quick hitting shows, especially on laid back Friday. I'm a port fan as the heat doesn't bother me and goes well with cigars.

I don't have an occasional wine.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

I would say there is a slight bit of competition in Nicaragua, but not the DR. Here is how I look at it. There is only one Champagne, and that comes from Champagne. Now there is nothing wrong with Sparkling wines that are mΓ©thode champenoise, but they are not Champagne. God made one place on Earth that grows the best tobacco and that is Cuba. The soil is perfect, the climate is perfect, and it is in the culture. Not that there is anything wrong with DR, Nicaraugan, or Honduran tobacco, but it will always fall slightly behind.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Good choice, Colin!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    You are exactly right!
