$30 Californian Sauv Blanc! Definitely one for the home market only. That’s taking the piss.

Hey Gary, good to have you back! And I'm glad to be back too, I probably haven't commented in more than a month. Not much a drinkin' this weekend, but I was having a Marlborough Sauv Blanc (Kim Crawford '08) as I watched this show. Picked it up about thirty minutes prior, as if by fate. As for 7/10, I REALLY hope I'll make it. Might bring a Gigondas (which always goes over well), or an Israeli wine…

Thanks for having Sauv Blanc tonight – ???? ????? ? ????! (Transl. – it was right in line with what was happening here.)

  • Missed u!

  • JIM MAKE IT!

  • YESSSSSSSSS!

  • U have to come!

  • Always!@

  • Thnx Pawn!

  • drt999

QOTD — Coleman Nicole 2010 PN rose, and it was good. Still seeing if there is any chance of making the July party. . . . If so, I'm bring local Riesling!

  • No shot!

  • No shot, we will go!

  • U are 🙁

  • Yesssssssss!

  • NY Pete

you sure that wasn't the 09 rose T

  • NY Pete

    you'll be begging for a re-match.

  • John__J

Loved the glass getting knocked over in the beginning. Hate that I probably won't be able to make it out on July 10th. Really happy you, Mott and the show are back after the week hiatus Gary.

  • Altboy97

Great to have you back and to get the details about the EVENT. Definitely making to WL on the 10th, and work on plans for heading to NYC. I'm headed to Paso this week, so will keep an eye out for something special to share with Vaynernation.
We tried a Gruner Veltliner over the weekend I really liked and a dry rose of Grenache, so was working on expanding the palate with some nice light stuff to fight off the sticky Jersey heat.

  • Gary, glad to have you back, I was starting to getting a little worried.

QOTD – I had a Prager 2000 Reisling Hollerin which was quite minerally and tasty.
QOTD2 – I am looking to make the treck from Chicago and if so, probably will be looking at either something sparkling or potentially an aged Reisling. Hopefully, I can make it work.

Looking forward to the brown bags!

  • Man I wish I could be there at the party. I would bring a real nice bottle of Sautern with me, but summer schooling is…..well sucky.

QOTD: No wine, just sat with a glass of Glenmorangie 10 YO for an hour or two. I'm really trying to find a nice bottle of riesling for the upcoming WC weekend, though I assume more beer will be spilled on those days.

    LET'S GO RED DEVILS!

  • Good energy today! I loved the show and wish that I could make it to the party on 7/10. But maybe there will be some left over for our dinner in NYC later in July!?

QOTD: Had one of my fave spanish wines from the cellar.

  • So glad your back!! Its so nice to have just you all to ourselves!!! Can you tell I raised my hand?

QOTD: Masi Masianco Pinot Grigio & Verduzzo '09 and a Valle Reale Vigne Nuove Md'A…Oh I also celebrated life with my friends by popping a bottle of Mumm Napa Cuvee M.
Wish I can make the party but if I were I would probably share my signed bottle of an '04 Bonarda from Nieto Senetiner Argentina.

  • jparadise

Great to have you back, really missed my WLTV last week.

QotD1: Drank this all weekend – Grüner Veltliner Messwein, Stift Goettweig – 2008
Kind of obsessed with the Gruner right now.

QotD2: Probably going to bring some Pelaverga, since most people I meet have never tried (or heard of) this stuff. One of the most interesting noses I have ever experienced on a wine. I've had two Pelavergas now and they were both serious thinking wines.

  • Dude… one of these days you'll host a blow out here in SoCal for the West Coast Vayniacks…

Would love to be there 7/10…

QOTD: Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir, a GV recommendation 😉
    QOTD2: If I were to make it, a 2005 Chateau La Pointe…

  • The drought is over! That was a rough week without you Gary and Mott. Glad to see an ep up today though. I could tell you had some pent up passion from the intro and the glass getting body slammed.

That blind tasting with guests giving their thoughts one by one on the party day sounds awesome, I'd love to see that.

QOTD: This weekend I shared a Susana Balbo Malbec with my family at a great dinner out. Unfortunately I can't make it back east for the 7/10 blowout, but I send my e-love to all of you that are going to have a blast at the Wine Lib and NYC, excited to see the results in video form.

  • Alexandre-CF

Hey Gary, It's great to have u back.

QOTD: I drank 07 Goulart Malbec reserva, nice argentinian malbec, realy deep, great every-day wine

  • corkscrew

Gary is back from his longg break….have had Cloudy Bay(overpriced)..QOTD-highlights from weekend was a 2003 Cain Concept, as far as 7/10 goes, way to early for that prediction. http://www.winelx.com

  • waynooo daaa wino

qotd: Had a Chateau Luchey-Halde Graves Blanc 2005 (from Wine Library Ep# 411),

    2007.

I'm sendin' me “Spirit” to da Party and instructin' him to take a Case of 1982 Chateau
    Petrus……..

  • Cardiff_Kie

QOTD: Weekend wine standout had to be 2005 Fifty Row Napa Valley Syrah. Usually not a huge napa rhone ranger but aged to perfection.

War the Jets ranked 4th in Madden 2011. Appreciate the pop culture/sporting news finish

  • leapinggnome

Glad you're back. Missed you, Gary. 7/10 bash/lovefest sounds magnificent. For those of us who can't make it, please capture all the details on video. And thanks too, Gary for mentioning the oil spill disaster that many of us are suffering from.

  • Randall

    brown bags…
    Brown Bags…
    BROWN… BAGS…
    BUH-ROWN… FUH-REAKIN'… BAGZZ!!!!
QOTD: Some '07 Pinot from Sonoma… didn't rock my giblets off, was a bit 'warm' and kinda 2D, but nice, and I don't even remember the producer (Domaine Something?), but it was better than a sharp stick in the eye… then again, I've had a 15 or 20 year love affair with Pinot Noir…
    Also some aged (5 yr. old) barleywines… mmm… barleywine…

  • jlilley

QOTD: I did Taste Washington in Spokane yesterday, a couple of wines that were new to me really caught my attention: Maison Bleue's Liberté (100% from Boushey Vineyard) and Corvus Cellars' Syrah-Petite Sirah Blend.

  • Welcome back Gary.
Question of the day, I had a wonderful time tasting two Portuguese wines.
    1. Lello Douro Red 2007, I enjoyed learning how to decant wine with this one. The wine started out tasting and smelling like a 25 pound box of bulk raisins, freshly opened, and also like prunes. Then it developed and started tasting like different varieties of dark and sour cherries. A little later it began tasting lighter like strawberry fruit. I paired the wine with a burrito and it worked out amazingly well, very good.
    2. Broadbent Vinho Verde, This wine tasted like crisp Pippin and golden delicious apples when picked off of a tree, not from the store. It also had flavors of different types of crisp asian pear. I really liked the flavors of this wine paired with some Manchego cheese and dry salami.
I also tried this wine with the other half of my burrito and it made the flavors of the burrito stand out in a totally different way than the red wine, still very good.

I work in a produce warehouse, trying fruits and veggies everyday, which makes it very fun to help me identify flavors and aromas in the wines.

Both of these wines were light on the alcohol flavor (which I am also very sensitive to), especially not the lingering heat on the back end, they both finished smooth.

Thank you for the lessons Gary, I am having a great time learning here. Great education!

Been watching the show for about 6 months now and this will be my first comment yet. From Canada and considering coming to the event now that i have finally turned 21 (drinking age 18 over in Montreal, Quebec). Just came back from Santorini where i tasted over 30 white wines of that region. Loved one of the bottles i brought back which i had tonight with fish, although i dont know what the name of the wine is because its written in greek!! Great acidity, 10 to 20 percent of the grapes were oaked for 6 months in new french oak (no oak monster- was very subtle). Another white that i enjoyed in greece was 2008 Pavlidis White Thema. QOTD: I have recently bought two bottles of 05' domaine du vieux telegraphe le crau which i would bring probably!!

    BPB all the way.

Speaking of Fresh Prince, peeps were freaking out on Twitter yesterday because they all thought that uncle Phil died. Turns out it was a Scottish football player.

QOTD: I had a 2007 Chateau St Jean Pinot Noir at the Oceanaire. It was excellent and went well with my stuffed walleye.

MIQOTD: 🙁 I'm afraid that even if I could make it out there my wife would be none to happy if I went to NY for a party before going down to AZ to see our new god son. If I were to make it, I would bring some good Mn wines.

  • Illegal_Formation

Not sold on the 7/10 event yet.

I had the 2008 Kermit Lynch Cuvee Selectionee Cotes du Rhone at a wine bar. It was good, but way overpriced by the glass. Also had the 2008 Bigi Est! Est!! Est!!! which is a good value. Trebbiano is unfairly maligned. On the beer tip, I had some Flying Dog Pale Ale, which is always outstanding.

  • QOTD: A Penfolds and Luna

  • FullOnNelson

    You brought the Thunder today.

QOTD: My most recent wine was a 1992 Spatburgunder Beerenauslese from the Rheinhessen. The crazy part was that it was fermented to 14% alc. The producer is Gutzler. it was a strange combo of dried orange peel, honey and strawberries on the nose. Bitter orange peel was strong on the palate and damn was the back end hot. Just like Beyonce.

I don't know if I will make it to the East Coast. No time off work to make it worth while. I'm still going to look at ticket prices.

  • Nice show, glad CA brought some thunder. Over the weekend was St Francis 2006 Sonoma Cab and Banshee 2008 Pinot. Bring the bags, only real critics dare to face the bags!!

  • Real good to have another episode of WLTV, missed it!

I think brown paper bags are fun!
uh, tonight had a 2004 Speri Amarone celebrating my buddies' birthday, and it was real solid. over the weekend had a 2008 espiritu de chile sauvignon blanc, and it sucked!

For the party at wine lib dunno if i will make it, think my friends will be too broke to make the trip with me! and I really want to go to per se when i come out to NYC but i'll never get a reservation now =(

  • don't want to be a lurker, so…… hi all!!!! Gary, you are the MAN!!! Spent the whole weekend watching WLTV, and have to say that you are totally in tune to wine!!! Thanks for featuring a summer varietal today. Will be posting again soon!!! Wish I could make it to NY for the party. It would be great to meet the man behind the magic of Your great wine resource.

QOTD:I had a little bit of Justin Isosceles, and today went to a wine tasting in Santa Barbara CA. with Justin, Sea Smoke, Alma Rosa, Brander, (the Sauv.Blanc Au Natural was the bomb), J. Lohr, (exceptional chard. Arroyo Seco), and Fess Parker to name a few.

  • chukheadted

“football is almost here”—sorry GV–still three more months!

  • ErieWineGuy

    I'm glad you're back Gary!

I've watched previous shows, ever since I've gotten back last week from 2 months of R&R.

QOTD: I was a primarily red wine drinker who now finds himself drinking white wines almost exclusively. I had a simple Elmo Pio Moscato this weekend. The frizzante style is wonderful.

I may now be able to make your wine and food bash – I'm seriously looking into it as it sounds like a lot of fun.
What would I bring? Perhaps a German Riesling or something from Loire.

I love your shows. Thank you.

  • maxmurrey

QOTD: Viognier grown and made in Ellensburg, WA. Good stuff. Will there be a party next year at wine library? I'm not 21 ('till July 26) and if I show up I feel like that could be bad for business.

  • Wish that head to head had been a brown paper bag face off. As for the party I'm to far away and to short of cash for that, can't it be on ustream or something?

QOTD: This weekend I had do drink a bottle of Havana Hills Lime Road 1481 all by myself., and if I was to attend the party i would probably bring some older rhone wine, why not a 1996 Chapoutier Monier de la Sizeranne

  • RichieHell

QOTD: I had the Theo Loosen Riesling Spätlese Feinherb 2008. Not bad really. Sadly I will not be bringing anything. Not even myself. If you live near Berlin it's not really 10 bones to get to the dirty yers. Feel with me fellow CKC's!

  • ilbee

Welcome back! I kinda feel that the NZ SB fad is pretty much over and anyway spending like 15?+ on those is kinda pointless when you can find much better overall deals on Loire Valley SB's. That's just my 2 cents though.

QOTD: This saturday it's time to have some 2000 Chateau Musar. I've never tasted a Musar so I'm feeling pretty excited!

  • kasperhip

    Vaynerchuk back on top. GREAT!
QOTD: 2005 Domaine de Baban Chateauneuf du Pape, Not bringing anything. You're too far away…..!

  • TommyB

QOTD: this weekend I had some Cava, Prosecco and a bloody mary.
As a UK Citizen I won't be making it to the Jers for the party!

  • Oakmon's BF

Gary, it?s good to see you back. I was beginning to suspect Mott of foul play. The way he was speaking for you in the comments made me a little uneasy. ?Gary will decide what comments are acceptable? and ?Gary will do the next show when I say so.? It reminded me of the 80?s when Soviet leaders kept dying mysteriously and someone in the USSR would announce that he was fine, he just had a slight cold. I feared that some Gary facsimile would show up in your chair that Mott was secretly controlling. Well, as I said, it?s nice to see you back. My fears have been put to rest.

  • alexlinsley

Ah, Gary, glad you're back to get some wine excitement into my morning. Got to ask though, cult Sauvignon – not tempted to go for some Dageneau Silex? Now that is crazy good SB (and huge vintage variation that kicks NZ 08/09 into perspective)

Anyway, QOTD – shared some Musar 2001 – stunning wine, which really developed with air from a spice driven concotion into a more fruity, perfumed outfit before giving off some old Bordeaux characteristics – @ilbee I'd be excited about the 2000 too. Enjoy.
Like @TommyB, the UK-Jers airfare is a little off putting – sounds like an awesome party though

  • YoungDave

    QOTD: THIS (past) WEEKEND:
2007 Château du Hureau “Tuffe” Saumur Champigny
    2008 Kuentz-Bas Alsace Blanc
    2003 Dare Cabernet Franc
ALSO some Negro Modelo and some delicious Anejo Tequila… not exactly a quiet weekend…
