Slightly better than pt1 but still a little too heavy on the marketing side. GV obviously didn’t rate the last wine but put it nicely by saying that the tannins were blocking the flavour. ie the wine was lacking in flavour!

    Uh…….can you say SPAM….????

  • me 2 🙂

  • scottEJ

Wow…I thought for sure Michelle would've toughed it out in CA to monitor the wine and REALY get her hands dirty. Clearly a Pinot bandwagoneer.

QOTD: I could only imagine what the $$$ would be at a restaurant, so….Golden Arches it is.

  • Michelle

    Hi all
What legends you are! You endured not one but two episode of us. Phew.

First, I am so sorry for the issue with the “VaynerNation” code. We are working on it right now to make sure it's up and running for you asap. It's been working for some but for most it hasn't activated the discount. VERY Sorry!

We'll extend the offer of $45 (2007 Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands) until June 30.
I'll confirm once our IT guys have it all sorted.

    Have a great night!
    Michelle

  • RANDINTHECITY

    nah….
    where are you ?

  • Randall

    Oh yeah, almost forgot…
QOTD: I know names would've been helpful, but if you leave downtown proper (of SF) and head south through the city, you'll find all kinds of nice little places in N. Beach and onwards into the Haight that can maybe handle a high-end PN or two. Of course, you're on the E.C. now… 😉

  • getmeacab

I don't care about the price point but special had applied leather labels tells me to stay away. You can probably ship the barrels to China and they'll bottle the wine for $5 per 1000 cases. Otherwise concentrate on the juice and less on the stuff that holds it.
QOTD: Would love to see this stuff at Red Loster sure beats the mouthwash that they offer today. Don't get me wrong, the food is fine but the wine selection is horrible… at any price point.

  • orangebottle

Gary and Michelle, that was a very nice and charming show.
These will be limited bottles because of the wrong spelling of your name. That is an one of the kind. I love the reactions from both of you. It was funny and genuine.
Michelle gets the best line of the show when she said ?you think you?re 5?-10???, that was great.
You never know where this will go. David Family is pretty new on the market, if they can consistently score in the high 90?s. or with flavor profile that we love. People will buy the wine no matter of the price. Like Gary said you put the best team and material in place, it should work. Good luck to you!
    QOTD: Postrio in S.F.

  • Jay

That 5'10″ quip timing was BRILLIANT 😀

  • good two parter, but not going to buy a $90 dollar pinot. But come on guys lets be fair the Vayner Nation is not her target audience. She's looking for the Wine Collectors, i have never held on to a bottle for more than two years, i buy wine to drink wine. Maybe when i'm a baller like Mott i can stash some wines but till then got to stay with the value plays

  • winecrazy

OK………. so how tall are you? You should just have Pimp on your license this way there is no mispelling it. That's funny….I thought you were a good 5'8 3/4… at least!!!!

QOTD: The Frog & The Peach & Due Mari both in New Brunswick NJ, The Park & Orchard East Rutherford NJ, The Manor Restaurant West Orange NJ, The Bernards Inn Bernardsville NJ

  • winecrazy

Great…!!!! Hope you can ship mine out tomorrow so if I like them I can buy some more before the 30th.

Thanks again….it was nice talking to you. Oh, can you sign a bottle for me please??? 🙂

  • Altboy97

My favorite part of my new home in Jersey is (free) BYO is everywhere, including really nice restaurants. So, I'm not much help. Now, if we could get it shipped here direct from producers, we'd really have something. I'm curious how some of the Jersey Vayinaks are getting their's shipped (legally).

  • Altboy97

A guy I work with is always talking about the great wine list at Park and Orchard (with fair mark-up). Must be true.

  • Michelle Turnbull

Great news! “VaynerNation” code is up! Thank you IT guys.

Now on to more important things…
Am loving the comments, the questions, the good, the bad… (the ones about the hands – well, I'm just not sure I'll ever figure out a good response to that one)

I'd love to take some time over the next few days to respond if that's ok. If you'd rather not hear from me, that's ok, but frankly, you've drawn me in and what can I say? Now I want to chat.

I think many of you have made some very good points and brought interesting questions to the table. Just give me a day to get over the fact that AUS is now out of the World Cup – it's no surprise but the reality still hurts a bit – and then, let the discussion-fun begin.

    Cheers

  • Thursday

    love big sip drips

  • winecrazy

Some places can't because of their license and shipping deal from the state. For some reason some places can. I think it has to do with the years they have been in business. Like some places can have tatsing rooms and have all the people they want but if you are a new winery you have to limit your tatsing room people thats why most new places have reservation only tasting rooms and older places have tasting rooms for anyone to walk in and taste the wines all day. But I really don;t know why some places use 3 tier shipping as opposed to direct shipping. And then there are the Non shippers….. we don't like those. But the laws in NJ have a lot to do with it too.

  • winecrazy

    The Biggest….

  • I think the second part of the show was a lot better! I would be interested to see Gary follow up with scores on these wines to get a better idea of where they really stacked.

  • orangebottle

Gary, your face seems a little red than usual.

  • You think you're 5' 10"?

G.V., You eased up on your critique, and you got burnt.

    Great guest though!

  • DAveAll

just to let you know i was here. no comment on the episode. ready for the next one.
diverted her error in spelling by your height… hmm. ebay search on david family – got me a david cassidy photo. wow.

(I hope she doesn't invite me to any of her parties) oh, boo me! (my, I'm turning into a bitter old man) is that worse than a lurker? Makes ya think, ugh?
    HUGE FAN! Don't misread this!

  • ErieWineGuy

Great shows. Thank you Gary and Michelle.

Personally, I respect the good marketing of good pedigree wines – fruit and winemakers etc…

David Family Wines grabbed my attention for many reasons.

If I find a producer that I develop confidence in, through their educating(marketing) to me – of their pedigree and idea/focus of their wines(different pinots for different times – I like that!), and I agree with them and develop an idea of trust with them – even though I have not even tried them yet, I will pretty much throw pricepoints out the window to try them!

I think that it is a healthy market that has a wide range of choice, where someone has the chops to tell you why they think their wine is worth 70 or 90 bucks. And if they explain(market) themselves well to you, and you agree with them, then that is what builds your confidence in them to try them, and perhaps to continue with them for a long time.

Selling wine is all about just what's in the bottle? Try selling wine first by developing the trust and confidence in the wine drinker, THEN make sure you deliver the goods!

    Now you've got something special.

    Wow, what a rambling. Later.

  • castello

She is charming. Can we buy futures yet?

  • castello

Welcome to the chatter. We'll be here for a few days. Leather labels rock. Was that your idea?

  • castello

The food sucks at red lobster! the wine is worse. Don't go THERE!

I’ve logged on right as the video was posted to the net. There was no link that says “post a comment” Somehow its not there. After someone else posts I can then be 2 or 3??

    Thank you I’ll try

  • flavasauce

Ugggg sideways ruined Pinot. I stick to unpopular varietals and apellations now. Good luck to Michelle but I will pass.

  • YoungDave

QOTD: As for LA, I think you should try to get your wines in the better wine bars of the city: Tasca and AOC. Cheers!

  • That was an awesome comment when she pulled it back in w/ the license in hand.

QOTD: sorry I can't help but off to ebay to bid on the wines.

Well, since I live in Santa Fe NM any of the high end restaurants here would be appropriate. There are too many to list. Martin Rios, Geronimo, Coyote Cafe, Rancho Encatando, all are places that have A1 wine lists. Only problem I see is price for these wines. 60-95 bones retail is going to translate to 120-200 bones in the restaurant. Great guest, good looking, and able to keep up the zingers with GV.

  • Mott The Hoople

Great episodes. Welcome to NY! QOTD. My favorite restaurant in the Tri-state area is a new one called Vetro by Russo's On The Bay. Here's a link, http://www.vetronyc.com/

The menu is very creative, every two weeks they do a tasting menu of a different region in Italy. Really cool. The wine list is great as well. On the water, not far from JFK, rooftop lounge, beautiful decor. You should check it out.

  • Brunellofello

Hey Gary, what a difference a day makes. I don't know why, but part 2 was much better for me. Maybe it's because she brings out a 90 bones pinot for you to try. That takes guts. QOTD: maybe Fleming's steak houses.

  • humbling touche!
QOTD: hmmmm, some of my favorite places in NY are diners…no wine licenses.

  • unWine'd

Would love to see the David Family Pinot Noir @ 5Senses in Murfreesboro, TN and or The Red Pony in Franklin, TN.

  • teckdeck2008

wow, great guest. Seems to be a great business lady and yet still very knowledgeable about wine. Surprisingly hard to come by judging by your guests lol. And me being a big a pinot noir fan, I loved the idea of the winery too.
Qotd: well this isn't a restaurant, but i work at downtown uncorked and if you delivered us some of that it would be awesome. because i find our pinot noir category to be extremely weak most of the time. and i could also get a healthy discount on it too. 🙂

  • The guest was great, top 10 all time. Gotta give you props for busting on the last wine as I thought you were being way to generous yesterday.

QOTD: Unfortunately I don't usually buy wine at resturants due to the high markup, unless it is properly aged and a special dinner.

  • Randall

Wow!! What a reference!! Good call…

  • Tonyengland

Need David Family Pinot Noir @ Blue in Charlotte, NC. Scott Daniel, the wine director has an extensive Pinot Noir list and these would be a great addition

  • JayZee13

Okay, that zinger from Michelle about Gary's height made the whole thing well worth it! Awesome!

QOTD: I live in Cleveland, OH. Here, Iron Chef Michael Symon rules. Go to Lola on East 4th Street in downtown Cleveland. And Michael loves pork, which Pinot is often a good match for in food-wine pairing.

  • Michelle Turnbull

    Hi All,

Have had a lot of email (and calls) about the futures for the 2009 we tasted. You can buy them now – all online at http://www.davidfamily.com

The Futures prices are already listed.

    Enjoy the wine!
    Enjoy the weekend!!

    Cheers,
    Michelle

  • Kittysafe

Michelle, I'd love to see your wines at Becco's in NYC.
Amazing Italian restaurant, best authentic in the city.
You gotta try it. Lovely people, they're on facebook too.
Great show, loved the height zinger. Can't wait to try
    your wines.

Do people tell you that you look like Eliza Dushku?
