line of the day – ‘Kinda like Lebron finished that game against the Pistons in 05 or 06 when he scored the last 25 or 30 points’

The first wine GV tasted was so nice that for a moment he was almost speechless. Now that’s a real rarity and pretty funny

  • QOTD: I don't know about outside the box, but really been liking some outrageously crisp whites from southern Italy. Nothing fancy, table wine, really good.

  • Kevb45219

Kistler 06 Somoma Coast Chardonnay… had for 4th of July. Big, mineral, dirt bomb. Loved it!

There's the box of white wine and inside that box is the Sauvignon Blanc box and inside that box is New Zealand wines. It's the New Zealand box that I have broken out of with Merry Edwards sauvignon blanc. Very different from NZ and a welcome change.

  • waynooo daaa wino

Great show GV! As long as you're telling it like it is, don't worry, be happy with the high scores.

QOTD: 2007 Stolpman Roussanne L'Avion tasted at the tasting room in Los Olivos. It sounded like you were tasting the double of this wine when you described the Booker.

  • Nik_B

Excellent show – it's great to see some more interesting Californian wines.

QOTD – probably the Hatzidakis Assyrtiko 2008 from Santorini in Greece. Quite unusual flavours of liquorice and slate/rock with lemon.

  • Nik_B

I had a very similar wine recently – 100% roussanne, from Cotes de Thongue, but the producer was Domaine Sainte Rose. Incredibly viscous.. almost like thick fermented pineapple juice.

I love this region. I have met some truly amazing and talented producers that are making brilliant wines. Definitely going to be looking into more wines from there!

  • Skippy6052

QOTD- I like this question because I recently had a Royal Tokaji furmint from Hungary which Tokaji you know is typically sweet. Not this wine it had a funky like grease gun nose to it with great fruit to follow it a little of balance but fun to taste looking for more just like it. Sorry if misspelled in a hurry just wanted to comment.

  • I got my hands on some of the 07 Alban Viognier…awesome. Orange peel, oily honey and mineral wonderful wine.

  • QOTD – Total nerd wine: Paredeaux Picpoul de Pinet blanc from the Languedoc. Very citrusy and fresh acidity comparable to Vinho Verde, minus the prickly frizzante qualities, plus additional minerality. Fantastic summer quaffer when the mercury starts rising.

  • QOTD-HEARTLAND VIOGNIER/PINOT GRIS FROM AUSTRALIA 2007, VERY BALANCED, AND GOOD MIX OF ACIDITY, FRUIT AND MINERALITY

  • John__J

    qotd: Domaine Schoffit chasselas, Alsace.

  • Phil G

QOTD – recently tasted the 2009 Dos Ladrones from the Caduceus tasting room – very interesting for sure…

  • RieslingRich

Been to BOOKER and Paso Robles many times. The Reds are equally good.

German Rieslings cooled down, cant beat em…

    RieslingRich

  • Enjoyed it.

QOTD: Just cant think of any out of the box wines lately I loved.

  • romo

i've been to booker, had this wine and own more of it. roussanne-viognier blends are better from paso than from northern california, but are very often more miss than hit. booker (and denner, sqn) is a hit. if you can't afford hermitage blanc (and who can?), go here.

but, don't drink this out of a burgundy glass!

  • Shane

    Marsanne from McLaren vale

  • DCaragher

    GV – Another success!

    QOTD: The X Winery's, white X.

  • pawncop

Good episode, will look for the wines.

QOTD – Vinho Verde from Portugal. Wonderful wine.

  • alexlinsley

The Booker sounds like one to try – I'm up for it.
QOTD: Loving Austria this summer – had some great value Gruner, even up to reasonably high price points

  • alexlinsley

    Plus, Mazanilla Sherry. Oh yeah…

  • YoungDave

    Keep the roll GOING!!

QOTD: Viscosity, extreme floral aromatics AND acid?? YES!!– 2008 Clesi Malvasia Bianca (Monterey, CA)

  • WesMcAllister

I just had the version #13 of the evolution wine by Sokol and it was pretty awesome. It is scoring higher on Cork'd then the WS did. I think WS got it wrong.

  • Terry

I thought you didn't like the wax on the bottle GV?

  • Phil Anderson

QOTD: Madeleine Angevine from San Juan Vineyards in Washington States Puget Sound AVA. With grilled oysters there is really nothing much better for a summer quaffing wine!

  • JayZee13

Nice little show and props to Cali on this one. Both wines sound appealing to me based on your tasting notes but the Booker really intrigues me because I love Viognier. Interesting sounding wines today.

QOTD: I haven't really had anything outside of the box lately, at least not a white wine. I am Down Under in Oz right now and I did have a Aussie Pinot Grigio which wasn't bad for a quaffing wine.

  • ewb

Great show length Gary. Way to be lightning quick Mott.
QOTD: Francois Lurton Domaine desSalices }Viognier

  • Drenoud

Great show Gary. Ordered the Booker. Will let you know if I liked it as much as you,

  • Weston3220

I wish I could buy that booker roussanne/Viognier, but alas im in canada

qotd: Buty Wines of Walla Walla with there Semillon/Sauv Blanc/Muscadelle 2008 FANTSATIC!

  • Jkbwells

Booker makes some great wines. I live Paso robles and they are really one of the stand out wineries. Drew is also excellent. I have an 03 Syrah aging nicely…

  • winephix

QOTD: Curran 2007 Grenache Blanc San Ynez Valley, fantastic varietal for this region! Got mine for $25.99 in Los Angeles.

  • With a name like Drew it has to be good!

QOTD – Been seriously slacking in my summer wines (late summer here in Seattle) but I’d have to go with a Chateau Miraval cotes de provence pink floyd. Nothing amazing but a great little refreshing sip with friends.

  • Mike in C-town

QOTD: two whites tried recently, both blends.

    Chehalem Chemistry (Pinot Gris-Chardonnay) happy
? (Torrones- pinot grigio) sad, obviously

  • Jonathan Regan

QOTD: amazing Italian whites: Malvirà Roero Arneis 2008 Piedmont & Meroi, Sauvignon Blanc, Colli Orientali del Friuli 2007

coming to USA next month – wondering if I can afford the Booker @ $40 (and whether there will be any left!)

  • Anonymous

QOTD: It may not be outside the box for most, but it is for me…. Roulot Bourgogne Blanc 2007. Fantastic minerality and freshness.

  • Anonymous

Love the golden color of that Booker! Looks and sounds delicious — your descriptors really bring it to life! I’ve heard about the viscosity of Viognier, haven’t tasted it yet, may have to move up to the $40 range! 🙂
