91/100

line of the day – ‘Kinda like Lebron finished that game against the Pistons in 05 or 06 when he scored the last 25 or 30 points’

The first wine GV tasted was so nice that for a moment he was almost speechless. Now that’s a real rarity and pretty funny

  • Oh man, 94 points, that's a bold statement.

QOTD: nothing that really has an otherworldly thing about it, but, Nicte AlbariΓ±o 2006 was very, very good for us.

  • George

Gary, good show. QOD – Channing Daughter's Rosato made with 100% REFOSCO grapes. Always on the lookout for new varietals, blends, and terroir.

  • RichieHell

QOTD: Knipser Pinot Blanc/ Chardonnay blend 2009. Fantastic stuff. You all need to try it!

  • Vineyard house wine

    No that was funny.

  • Alexandre-CF

i think i was a little tough, bad mud because of the Brasil’s lost in the world cup.

But i give these week a 95+ for the shows, WLTV is on fire dude.

Love it Gary. Keep the Paso Love coming… great stuff coming out of here…
    The whites are underrated!

  • Awsome show, have to rate it 1oo. hey gary don't feel bad that all the wines are bringing it that is a good things. If you want to be negative do 2 buck chuck part 2. If those score well then your a sell out. keep em coming Gary V.

  • Great episode. Loved the good showing by the wines. Wish I was ballin' enough to drink these…fun to live thru you though πŸ˜‰

QOTD: No experiences this summer… πŸ™

If anyone is in Michigan you should try Leelenau Cellars Great Lakes Red. Michigan I am told has a good climate for growing grapes. I tried this wine the other day and it was soo delicious. Leelenau Cellars is well known in Michigan famous for their Winter White also which I have not tried. This wine is very inexpensive but to me is by far the best red I have tried. I work in the liquor department at a local grocery store and we can't keep it in stock.

  • David M Roberts

I am also big on Lodi and Paso Robles – they are two (maybe still?) underrated regions that deliver a lot of value for the price. Thanks for previewing these two – made for a tidy and lively show.

QOTD: Sadly, can't answer as I have been playing with the reds this year. Is that some form of reverse discrimination?

  • Benjaminprice3

QOTD: Just had our big wine night last night, and the surprise white was a Michigan Gewurtztraminer from Brys Estate. It really impressed me. Good medium body for a Gewurtz, and the transition between a pleasant sweetness to an acidic mid palate to a profoundly spicy finish was a great little journey in my mouth. One of my buddies who used to order wine for JW Marriott believes Brys Estate is making the best wines in Michigan right now, and I'd have to say that wine gave him a strong argument.

  • jason carey

The Donkey and Goat El Dorado Rousanne by far.. very unique. slightly nutty .

  • Charlotte_DK

Would love to taste the 2008 Booker Roussanne/ Viognier, but once again- I can't find it in Denmark. Great show. Loves these back to basics shows and love that U found some that U really liked for a very nice deal.
QOTD: I'm gonna have to quote Jimmy Trent. Had no great out side the box whites this summer. Trying new things though- went to a south african tasting the other day- nice for the price (still love the french wines in general).

  • U.S.A….U.S.A….Glad your finding some delectable winners!!

QOTD: Yes a real discovery for me…Italian of course but Masi Masianco 75% PG & 25% Verduzzo 09…intense straw-yellow color, floral and fruity apple, pear, delish from the first drop to the last…and it is out of the box some what for me.

  • Jager255

2008 mathiasson white, a strange combo of italian and french grapes at a very fair price.

  • Great show (and great week)! I am going to have to search for the Booker as the weight and viscosity sound perfect.

QOTD – 2004 Franz Hirtzberger – was deep gold, yet crisp and clean. interesting Pith on the finish

  • LurkerKing

I think if Jesus were alive he would like to drink some of Wine #1.

  • If Jesus was alive…he would make his own. πŸ˜‰

  • LurkerKing

I wonder what Varietal he would choose. J.C. strikes me as a Merlot drinker.

  • Your Caps Lock must be exhausted. πŸ˜›

  • waynooo daaa wino

Da Smoke is pourin' off it Riiiiight Nooooow !!!! ;o)

  • Nothing much to say so just have a safe and great July 4th weekend! πŸ˜€

  • Yeah, baby! 3 for 3 for great shows to finish up the week! Lovin the old school format lately, great content!.

QOTD: Wasn't really in the summer, but the most outside the box wine I've had recently had to be the 2006 Joly Savennieres-Coulee de Serant (wrote a Corkd article on it here too: http://content.corkd.com/2010/04/30/discover-th… )

Have a great 4th of July to everyone out there! Be safe!

  • How awesome would that be. Finally, an outstanding kosher Merlot for the holidays

  • richardvinifera

QOTD: Tried a wine i've never seen anywhere else: Lacryma Christi Del Vesuvio Blanco DOC (Part of Vesuvio DOC) grape is Capronetta aka Coda Di Volpe. Fairly simple crisp italian white, a little overpriced at GBPΒ£12, but nice to try something new though!

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Nothing special. Mostly Chards. I liked all of them. Had an inexpensive SB from New Zealand, Cooper's Creek—-Mint for days….I purchased a Bedrock Wine Co.(Sonoma) white blend that looks interesting and probably will be excellent and a little different.

  • WWRussell

QTD–Bougrier Vouvray. Great little French white at a great price.

  • Altboy97

Thanks for some recognition for the Paso area (love it there). Making quite a transition from their simple Zin roots to becoming a outstanding Rhone region. Bring on some more (and stock it in the store).

  • WineWoman

The Refosco grape is what Bastianich(Italy) uses to make their Rosato, which I have enjoyed in the past. Just being curious, do you remember how much the Channing went for?

  • Brunellofello

What a week Gary! It was Wine Library TV at its very best. QOTD: I don't drink many whites. I did however have a very good Aligote recently.

  • jlilley

QOTD: '09 Combine from Rulo in Walla Walla (96% Sauvignon Blanc / 4% Muscat Ottonel). The wine is gorgeous with absolutely bracing acidity.

  • vanswirlypants

I'm really not trying to be critical (I love Gary too) but I just don't understand how the Booker could be described as “spectacular” with the complete and total package of sensory satisfaction and then only get a 94 point rating. Are you saving the 95+ rating strata for something outrageous and nearly unobtainable? I know Gary is being conservative, but the downside to doing so is that it doesn't leave a whole lot of room between a very good effort 90 point wine and a “spectacular” 94 wine.

  • scores are tough… I understand πŸ™

  • we were back, weren't we?

  • only 89? ;(

  • Benjaminprice3

    Scores are tough…

  • Jacqueline51

    Howdy Gary,
Jacq. from T.O. here! Great show to end the week! I'm feeling the enthusiasm right through the screen here!

QOTD: My outside the box white wine right now would have to be the greek wines I tasted recently. Antonopoulus Vineyards, Adoli Ghis 2009. It's a blend of Chardonnay, Asrpoudes, Lagorthi and Rhoditis. Also from the same producer the Malagousia 2009. It's 100% Malagousia. Good value, distinct, great starter wines before a meal or with appetizers.

I'm also enjoying a Les Loges Vouvray 2008 by Lacheteau. Great balance between fruit, sugar and acidity and again not heavy on the alcohol.

Happy 4th to you Gary and all the Vayniakers!!

    Cheers
    Jacqueline

  • Melisataylor

Hi Gary! we love your reviews and are avid followers of your video capsules, do you ship your wines to Quebec, Canada ?? because that Viognier seems delicious…
    M & V

  • QOTD- Pithy Little Wine Company's Malvasia Bianca has surprisingly become my summer wine. I am not a white wine drinker but I tried this and now have cravings for it.

  • My favorite has to be Zaca Mesa's Roussanne(tasted it on location). Great show today and I really want to try that Booker as I'm a white wine guy myself. Cali wines for tha win πŸ™‚

  • Randall

Dangit!! You guys brought me out of lurking already!! I was gonna come back when Markus Stolz and Michelle Turnbull were posting… not to mention the various comments on jazz :}… but this was just too much to ignore…
So much for my smugly self-righteous campaign against Disqus… 2 whole eps… πŸ˜€ What a maroon!

    Anyway:
EVERYBODY knows He's a big fan of Pinot Noir… Duh!! πŸ˜‰

When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, and saith unto him, “Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.”

    Now THAT'S style!!

  • jeffsjeff

Another fantastic show…would love to get my hands on that Booker, but you're sold out =( Ordering more, GV or Kmurph?

  • Randall

    Kinda like a Bastardo?

  • ahillsey

Tintero Grangia imported by Kermit, I believe the varietal is favorita. It is bubbly, dry, and deliciously refreshing.

  • Kathryn SVW

Love the two bottle shows and the great descriptions…feels in-depth.

  • Gary's on a roll!!!! Loved the show.

'07 Drew's Fog-Eater Anderson Valley Pinot Noir got great reviews last winter.. Anxious to try this syrah.

  • ronthecopsomm

Vezer Family Vineyards Suisun Valley California Verdelho brings the crazy West coast thunder baby. Great acid with melon and citrus with just a touch of residual sugar.

  • Corkwrights

Best white : Urban Uco Torrontes 2008.
Best Red: Kanon Kopp 2006 Cadet

I have to get my hands on that Booker.

  • Randall

LOVE the Anderson Valley Pinots!! Haven't had this one, though… YET!!
    πŸ™‚

  • I just had the Kanonkop 2008 Kadet and loved it.. best $10 red I've had yet.
