QOTD : Not had much Malbec – need to rectify

  • wiljak

What's the matter, is the soup too hot?
    just taste the soup
    Is the soup too cold?
    just taste the soup
    Where's the video?! Ahhhaaaaa!

  • orangebottle

    top 10.

  • Look forward to this – had some decent Malbecs lately

  • SenorSangria

QOTD: Malbec = Yum… But drink it fast… I'm not a big fan of Malbec's after they've been open for more then an hour. Sounds weird i know. I'm not sure why that is…

  • adrums

I'm a big fan of the Lindaflor, although interestingly, I have only had (and have remaining bottles of) the '05 and '06, both of which have been among my favorite Malbecs, moreover, I've been able to find them for well south of $40. Whoa though; 50 bones for the '07!? I sure hope I can find it for less. Any wine / winery which raises its price by more than 5 % in this economy is getting an automatic pazzzz from me, Tanzer's (and GV's) recommendation notwithstanding.

  • vertical is just great.. I wish I could do that more.
So for this, its a testament to young wine he ๐Ÿ™‚ and you get 5 glasses of a 750 ml bottle ๐Ÿ™‚
    Hitting the groove, hmm……. yes.
QOTD: Malbec= the varieltal that tend to be in foucs as steal the shine from others that are it's equal. Also = Argentina, thats it for me on this extremly early episode. Someone was in a hurry home?

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Gary, just you just wake up?…lol

    Looking forward to the episode!

  • Allan

Smokin' show ๐Ÿ˜‰ !…. If you love tannin and flavour, go Malbec.

Would love to have been there and tasted with you…. Malbec is not too shabby if you want my 2 cents…. Latest i had was a 2006 Achaval-Ferrer Quimera which i adored & it was extremely well balanced. 93 p. Only time will tell if it evolves well…………………….

Qotd: Malbec = has it's place in the wine world, often for blending & just look at Cahors (Auxerrois) & Loire Valley (Cรดt)…? Cheers! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Allan

    A little help here…..:

click on wines tasted in this episode, for example the 2003, and you get to another page, where there is a miniature screen. That's the best i can do. Only tryin' to help ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Hitting a groove! Hmmm, wines oaked and moxed beyond recognition by M. Rolland not holding up over time… anyone NOT see that coming?

QOTD: You say “Malbec”, I say “the new Pinot Noir”. Geez, sorry guys, feel like I'm bein a bit negative on this whole comment, but I have tasted a lot of “makeup and fake boobs” Malbecs, and for some reason they tend to be originating from Argentina mostly. That being said, still great stuff from people like Yellow+Blue, and interesting stuff from Cahors as well.

  • orangebottle

that was an eye opener. I guess every bottle is different even with the same wine, wine maker on different vintages. I think it is not advised to store vertical wines because you'll not get the same taste year after year. Wow, Good show.
I wonder if you taste the 2004 year later would the oak be less like the 2003. The salt becomes stronger.
QOTD: Malbec = Catena (only wine i recognized that has Malbec in it). Malbec = Pressic ???.

  • corkscrew

Lindaflor makes a great Malbec, have tried the reserve and regular one. Good stuff. http://www.winelx.com Will watch at home later, my laptop does not allow me to watch shows since DISCUST starting having it's issues….even Washington works better than their system and that's not saying much. http://www.winelx.com

  • My 3 year old watched with me and had a brilliant question…

“Why is he not swallowing the wine? Does he not want to peepee in his pants?”

    Great moment!

    QOTD: Malbec = Purple Dinosaur

  • castello

I'm only getting a blank screen! Help!

  • QOTD: Malbec – this decade's shiraz.

You are getting back to a better grove!

  • drt999

QOTD — I've found Malbecs rather bland from both Argentina and Cahors; obviously many others disagree!

  • Lb_in_KS

QOTD….Malbec= how I found WLTV many moons ago while researching a Ben Marco Malbec

  • Allen

I haven't even watched the episode yet, but verticals are a great idea, and you should definitely do more of them.

  • nice, a vertical show…I gotta get out of the office and will catch this at home…

  • Elcaro

video doesn't seem to be working

  • johndefi

Same problem…no video. Quicktime works, though.

  • ONUMello

    Vid worked fine for me…
QOTD (I've got to nerd it up) CAHORS!

  • KAHUNA

video works in the wine pages-

Gary – way to take over the Tea broadcast – I think Kevin Rose got 2 words in-LOL you guys mught be loaded now but I can't imagine any of you three having kissed a girl before you turned 18;) actually was good- nice work

  • Not usually a fan of what Rolland does in Argentina, the Lindaflor's Ive tasted were all over the top, but I'll look out for that 07!

QOTD: Malbec = Argentina's claim to fame

  • John__J

qotd: Malbec = the next big bandwagon varietal, which means flooding the market w a drop in quality, so I'm putting my faith in malbec back (not that it ever left), in Cahors. One area for malbec where I have the least amount of worry w compromising the wines quality and integrity for the sake of a trend.

Gary, loved seeing you do a vertical tasting show, would love to see more of them (along w more rare varietals, SIR Gary Vaynerchuk, barely talked about regions, and seeing Sasha.)
How about seeing if you can find a wine from Reunion? (That Island maybe 300 miles east of Madagascar that's owned by France and listed as #50 on wikipedia in top producing wine areas in the world. I'm still searching for a wine from there myself.)

And you're getting 6 full glasses of wine out of a standard bottle? I definitely need to get my hands on the same bottles you're drinking out of.

    Great episode today, thanks!

  • guymandude

    Stay in the groove.

qotd; Malbec = Auxerrios, Cot Noir, Pressac

    what is going on?

    KaD

  • QOTD: Malbec = great wine at overpriced meal with my dad years ago. Turned us onto the wine though.

  • NY Pete

Pat, are you going to the noobfest?

  • Malbec= wine i have never had.

Great show, interesting to see how the same wines evolve in the bottle. I really don't know this maker, but i do know some winemakers make wine to be drank earlier and some make wines to be stored. Seems LIndaflor need to be drank early. love to see this with some other variatels. thank GV
