Good show, but chatting to people off-camera doesn’t really work

    Not too shabby!!!

I’m in agreement that an under $20 won’t get a 95 and I’m perfectly fine
with that. In my mind that’s how you establish hierarchy. But the hierarchy
HAS to be established blind. I think that wine has to be judged as wine and
not as Bordeaux or Barolo etc. I certainly have had some wines around the
$25 mark that, for my palate, I would give 95s to.

    Rhone!

  • AllanJonassen

I've actually had the Granacha, and i'm with you on this. Not 90p. Agreed. In Denmark this is 140kr. which is about 25 bones!!! so i'm lower on score 84-85p. End of story…………..

    That being said………

Nice show! The Rhone Valley is GREAT! Please don't push it too hard. We (the consumers) wouldn't like to see the prices soar…… πŸ™‚

    We need another show on Sherry Gary….!! !! !! !! !!!

QOTD: THE GREAT QPR-BATTLE…. You can bring it G!!!!!!!! πŸ™‚

    Cheers!

yes! about time for another rhone show.

  • wizzardsblog

I live in the UK, so might be heading down to Cornwall and visit The Eden Project.

  • payson07

Good to have some new stuff (regions) on the show. Very interesting.

QOTD: Friends wedding in Hawaii. It's going to be crazy!

  • kasperhip

    BonderΓΈv!

  • kasperhip

The QPR-battle is a good idea. Gary tastes five or more under 20 dollar vines and pick the best ones. Bring it Gary!

QOTD: Going to romania with my girls.

  • mattgmann

$35 is a lot to swallow for a st joseph blanc imo. I'm a big fan of rhone whites, but rarely spend more than about half of that on a bottle.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Sept 25th….I'm there!!!

PS -Gary, I know Randi will be glad you got a haircut…lol

  • mattgmann

I've had the granacha before. I wasn't thrilled with it, but for the price it was ok. The fruit tasted a little fake/too bright/starbursty to me. It was pretty simple too. Overall it was tastey, but I'd almost catagorize it more of a table wine.

  • mattgmann

who's tasting behind the camera? studio audience?

  • mattgmann

I've been trying some higher end cotes du rhones lately. Two have stood out.

One was by JL Chave, called 2007 Mon Coeur cdr. ~$25 Big wine for cdr

Another I've like recently was 2007 Feraud Brunel Rasteau Cotes Du Rhone. also ~$25 and pretty fantastic imo

  • Thanks Gary. Super pumped. Hope to see you soon….26th maybe?

  • mattgmann

qotd: world cup? well, not that it interrupted any period of my life with the exceptions of some droning plastic horns as background music in a bar or two.

Uh, well, the second half of the baseball season is finally of interest now that my Cincinnati Redlegs are playing well.

More imminently, our summer party is coming up in a few weeks. It's the “Matt and Jenny Go America All Over Everybody's Asses Super Patriot Chili Cook-off”.

Lots of chili, friends, booze, and red white and blue. We give away prizes and show super american movies on the outdoor screen after dark. It's a great time, but there is much work to do.

  • castello

    23rd!!!
    I didn't get the memo

  • castello

I'm looking forward to summer tennis leading up to the US open! Normally the only reason I would go to a larger than life apple.

  • castello

    baddest as in goodest?
It's about time you got in first.

  • AllanJonassen

    Right on! Facebook! See Ya..

    Det er rigtigt”! πŸ˜‰

  • cellarrat5

That is the best name for a party/BBQ I have ever heard (gotta love always sunny refrences). And this also happens to be the most I have seen you post in one sitting; good mood today?

  • AllanJonassen

    Agreed!

  • Decent show and like the idea of another open house the day before my PHINS continue their domination of the FAT A$$ and company. Hopefully we can make it up there this time.

QOTD: Only plans so far is the Outer Banks in August and to watch the Mets get my hopes up.

  • cellarrat5

Good show, too bad the St. Joseph bombed, I am always interested in those blends. You do realize you scheduled the second party well into the first couple weeks of harvest right!? Lame. I was actually thinking about forking out the bones to fly from CA, but that?s not going to happen in late September.

QOTD: Bluesapalooza In mammoth CA, August 6-8th. I highly recommend anyone that lives in CA make the trip. Over 80 Breweries and Micro Brews, specialty beers live music, local food, and plenty of good times (no, I do not help organize the event I just love it).

  • johnfarrin

I love you like a son BUT, in this economy a $13-88pt wine and a $22-90pt wine are just not viable commodities. There are SO MANY 88-90pt wines in the $8 range to be had that paying much more is (imo) wasteful. If you want to join my Winos group just e-mail me πŸ˜‰

QOTD: Hands down even though it's at the tail end of summer (middle of Sept), going to Jacksonville, Flsa for my grandson's 2nd birthday. Oh yeah, and his dad's 30th πŸ™‚

  • johnfarrin

Try the 2006 or 2007 Alain Jaume Clos de Sixte. I think you'll like them!

  • and it sounds like Daly is whooping ass…may be the good beer over there?

  • laurieinvt

    Good show- thanks!
QOTD: Two events: the impending birth of my granddaughter (man, I do not feel old enough to be a Nana, but is this ever going to be terrific!) and the departure in mid-August of my younger son to college- early because his college soccer career begins then. I think that's enough for one summer! πŸ˜€

  • AllanJonassen

The night is bitter, the stars have lost their glitter,
The winds grow colder, suddenly you're alot older,
    All because……………………

  • I’m supposed to take time off in September and visit friends in Astoria, if I can time it with the open house, I’ll bring you a huge acid white from the Lake Champlain Valley!

  • Brunellofello

Good show Gary. Yes, it was more serious today, but really informative. QOTD: 3 things excite me about the coming months: my kids start swimming indoor short course events; the start of the NFL regular season; and the fact that WL has set up another party for the Vaniacs.

  • castello

The points already take into consideration the price. Hard to score without bias unless you go blind. imo!
You're out here on the left coast right?

  • Just sat and tasted 3 cheeses and drank a red Crozes-Hermitage 2007. I'm a rhone head, what can I say. Shows like this can always brighten may day, regardless of the actual wines.
I'm waiting to taste a white from the same appellation, perhaps this week. Saint Joseph I've never had.
QOTD: what are you talking about. British Open is going on right now, for the 139 th time. That's legacy πŸ™‚
