line of the day – ‘it becomes sour water about one second into the experience’

Good show, but chatting to people off-camera doesn’t really work

TG for Mott. Twice you put the bottle in front. I didn't hear Mott so guessing he was either giving you the evil eye or you guys have some secret special code that says “Move the damn bottle”.

QOTD: There is still the Basketball World Cup to come (and probably Spain will win that one as well…)

  • Charlotte_DK

Rhône Valley and especially Saint Joseph with all its (black) pepper. I just love it. That is why its very strange that I never had a white Saint Joseph. I will definitely seek one out soon.

QOTH: well going to Alsace next week- that is “an event” I really much look forward to. Sports wise I like Tour de France (notice please that it is the danish team in yellow right now- yep yep).

  • mattgmann

I've had the clos de sixte a few times. Good wine.

  • mattgmann

if anyone is in the neighborhood, they're welcome to stop by.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Another good episode, sir!

I'm going to have to keep my eyes peeled for the Ch. Signac. Sounds like a great all-around wine.

I'm looking forward to the 25th of Sept. I'll be there this time for sure!

QOTD: Every August, a bunch of my friends and I, get together to smoke cigars and drink wine at a particular place in OH. This year we got a lake house, not far from my house (VA), and plan on partying/relaxing all week. I'm certainly looking forward to that! Not long after that is the 2nd WL Party…so I have a lot of wine drinking to do in a months time..lol.

  • mostly excited about seeing the new stuff my 9-week year old son does….that's enough 🙂

  • Glad you liked the Signac… had a couple bottles earlier in the year and was pretty impressed.

  • sethsethy

good show. gary, i wanna see you drink a full glass sometime, haha 😛

  • johnfarrin

Points should ALWAYS be blind. A wine is either good or bad. Price should
not determine points. Price should determine QPR!

  • Dcaragher

GV – DO THE KNOWLEDGE!!! I dig it…can you dig it?

QOTD: I'm going to Nicaragua in Nov!

  • jenna35

I'm excited for my trip to Vegas with my fiance. I just watching the Wynn episode. Any recommendations?

  • Vineyard house wine

    Love the Rhones –good show
This weekend at the Village at Squaw Valley Art,Wine and Music Festival Should be a good time, the west coast can make up for not getting to the open house. Any other lurkers going to be there?

  • Smahlatz

    QOTD : Peterborough Beer Festival

  • Randall

No… Edgar Meyer is the best… and Bela is THE MAN!!!

  • A dumb Rhein king

QOTD: I'm excited to pick some grapes this fall and make some more wine!

  • castello

When? I could google it I guess.

  • castello

It's is rarely done blind excepting the big boys and the big magazines. In the real world the price is allways in the equation. Help me out here experts!

  • Can’t say no to that. Hope I can make it 🙂 Definitely had a great time last week… I’ll add that Sasha is not the only person to get nostalgic at the sight of a two hour bread line.

  • Vineyard House wine

If you google the village at squaw valley and click on the events calendar you can see the schedule for the this weekend. You can also see what wine will be poured. Its the 9th annual festival, they are allways a good time and out to the heat down in the valley.

  • DAveAll

secret party attendees ..haha. or those that could not drive home after the party?

  • Missatiejacket

nice episode. I do like this format, but I also like when you have guests on who are in the business so you can nerd it up with them.

qotd: seeing Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Zakir Hussain play together in August at probably my favorite indoor concert venue

  • DAveAll

VALUE FRENCH WINE!!! love it. thanks for the show! I like the way you attack the names even if you aren't close. way to go!
So how much of a wine is vintage or the grapes and how much is the vintner? (and you can't answer “the distributor”)
QOTD: renting pontoon boat on the lake day. no. no. Canadian train east to west across Canada. no. no. …so much to do instead of watching sports on TV. get out there guys! Watching sports if for after you can't play golf, which you should start when you are in your 60's cause it's so slow. snicker.

  • laurieinvt

Bela Fleck is the best!! Edgar Meyer is also wonderful :).

  • Mad Hatter

    Hey Gary,

Loved today's episode. I really enjoy the longer ~20min episodes like this where you go into depth and don't seemed rushed.

  • Alexandre-CF

next year for sure, i went to maipo and casablanca. next time i’ll go further .
    thks for the tip.

I had a great Sauvignon Blanc by Tabalí (Reserva especial 2009) and a really great Syrah from Maycas del Limarí (Reserva especial Syrah 2007) from there, any other sugestions?
San Pedro make good stuff too.

  • johnfarrin

That was just my opinion. I believe all biases should be put aside when
tasting wine and that it should be judged as a product regardless of where
it was made, grown or what it cost. It is what it is.

  • Alexandre-CF

    Hey Gary,
i just came back from a wine trip to chile, the prices there is going to the sky, but i found great under the radar wines for great prices. Casa Blanca valley is bringing the thunder.
I miss the shows and this as a coming back show was great.
    Solid 94 pts show dude.

QOTD: Here in Brazil is winter so my plans is to drink the wines that i bought in Chile.

  • Senator

Gary! 20 minutes + no guest = perfect. More of this.

  • b777capt

Good show GV! Too bad about the Marsanne/Rousanne showing. I normally really like that combo with its viscous mouthfeel and flavor profile.

QOTD: Football season is getting closer! I'm going to a Wine Festival in Mammoth, CA with 3 days of wine and music in an idyllic setting. Train will be one of the acts.

  • corkscrew

Love Cotes du Rhone, so much good QPR. Great time at WL and NYC….it's called A.C…something the hotel forgot to put on….QOTD-watching British Open now…beach http://www.winelx.com

  • Interesting how the most expensive wine completely tanked… I guess even the Rhone – that bastion of QPR – isn't perfect.

QOTD – There's a concert toward the end of Mostly Mozart this year where my favorite Haydn symphony is being performed. I know that if I get TOO excited about it though, I'll probably take issue with some part of the performance and won't enjoy it as much as the buildup would suggest. So after this posting, I'm going to try to think of something other than this particular event.

P.S. – If I went last Saturday, should I abstain from going on 9/25? It feels like I ought to make room for those who didn't get there last time…

  • jrouss

QOTD going on a big hike in colorado. Otherwise I can't wait for football season to start.

  • guymandude

The wine ,the man ,the show.

  • castello

Looks good but it's this weekend! I'm late to the party.

  • jason carey

I hated the 07 version of the La Garnacha.. over extracted and purple… from the looks this is lighter and a different style.. I really did not like the 07

  • castello

In a perfect world I'd agree but you will never see an under 20 bone wine get over 95 points. I shouldn't say never. If I really like a wine and it's semi affordable I'll give it a couple extra points just to make a point. I'll call it QPR point(s)!

  • Dug the episode… felt the sober vibe. Anyone have a good recommendation for a Rhone white?

Qotd: Cannot wait till the NHL goes into full gear (pre season and all)… the signing of Kovalchuk though is becoming an unnecessary drama, he is a great player but he is setting up a lot of expectations with the deal that he wants. Hope he's playing for the kings next season and can have a 50+ goal season!

  • jason carey

    Dude the Tour de France…!!

  • Tom T.

QOTD….going down to Bethany Beach in Delaware next month.

  • nice feedback

  • 🙂 thnx man!

  • QOTD: The US Open in Flushing Meadows, NY. Hope to go there some day with my lovely bride. We shall stop by for a visit on the trip. I know you are also getting into tennis a bit these days, so maybe a tasting at Flushing Meadows during the US Open. Say hi to Jon Wertheim while you are there.

  • no chance, we better see u there!

  • Yes Sir

  • Thnx Alexandre

  • Me 2 🙂

  • Drink hugh acid whites!

  • good point 🙂
