  • Mark I am so so so happy for u guys!

  • Thanks Gary

If you're talking Marsane, you've got to get onto Tahbilk from the Nagambie Lakes in Victoria, Australia. World's oldest and biggest Marsane plantings and probably one of the five best value wines in Australia

QOTD: I'm a teacher – leaving for Europe on Sumeer holidays tomorrow – that's what I'm looking foward to!

    Cheers
    Andrew

  • Jens

Tour de France…….and for late summer, US Open !

QOTD: Vacation at end of August. Also visiting one of my dog-breeders and playing with all of her lovely Samoyed dogs. There's nothing like it!!

I love Rhones, and I liked this ep.
They give you a 2006 white Rhone? ou know he varetals are prone to flabbliness and lack of acidity. That's a major flag. Yes, they ultimately may develop into rich, nutty, honeyed prizefighters, but not (to my opinion) even most of the time. Regularly, while on their steady retreat in the (sometimes possible) “dumb phase”, many, even good wines from noted and responsible producers – just go a little to sleep, and die a quiet death. Sadly, and too often, on retail shelves across America. White Rhones are totally delicious and lovable. From this vet – not beyond 3 years, if at all possible.

Agree with both of you. when and where?

  • drt999

Odd, I didn't get an e-mail announcement of today's show!
Hey, GV, isn't 79 a high score if the wine sucked that badly?

QOTD Looking forward to have a week off in August!

  • I missed it this past time around, but I will be at your next party for sure Gary. Nice work, thanks for opening up the shop for us!

  • Yes, great show…..BUT I'm up for any show with Sasha or some random special guest like The Iron Sheik or the Macho Man

  • Too bad about the white Rhone.

QOTD: Looking forward to the end of OCT when baby boy #2 will get here.

    Jason

Tasting Rhone has me excited to taste my 03 Ch. Beaucastel that I got as a gift last year.
QOTD: My wedding coming up end of September! Grrrrrrr….#$&@#$ Won't be able to make the 9/25 party either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • “Good looking girl friend, on a camping trip, roasting marshmallows…”

    LOVE IT!

  • Marked and done. : )

  • drt999

Nope, I didn't; glad I caught it, though!

  • πŸ˜‰

  • That Chateau Signac sounds exactly what I like. Will have to give it a try.

QOTD: yankees in first place going strong into the fall.

  • Jason Wisdom

Finally seeing an episode live was an awesome experience. Loved the Chateau Signac, great weight and almost creamy. Store was amazing and K Murph might just be the single sweetest and most welcoming person I have EVER met. First trip to WineLibrary and LOVED it!

  • Interesting episode… nice 'wine nerd' stuff…

But a little, no wait, REALLY disappointed that you're having ANOTHER East Coast bash, thus ignoring us WEST COAST Vayniacks AGAIN! Come on WC Vayniacs, SPEAK UP!!!

QOTD: Kim and I are renting a big ranch house with three other couples in Los Olivos overlooking the Valley the last week in August… Ampelos, Curran, Melville, Kosta Browne, among others on the itinerary… Hey, how about a Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir tasting, eh?

  • QOTD: My wife's due for July 26th for our FOURTH girl!!! So that will be a pretty special event, plus I am launching my new wine accessories store withing the next few days (plus the webtv shows that go with it!)… I started to plan the opening of this store almost a year ago after reading… That's right … After reading CRUSH IT!!! (Thanks GV for the inspiration and certainly the kick in the A**!) So pretty busy schedule for the next month or two… and now planning a road trip on SEPTEMBER 25th to WL ! I missed the last one because i didn't want to take the chance that our little princess decide to arrive earlier! Cheers All!

  • Robert Carkeek

The next event I look forward to this summer is the Port Townsend Wooden Boat festival. I have been a lurker for about a year. It took some time to get use to you in a frendly way, but now I think you're great.

    Thanks,
    Bob

  • next time go Norte to the Limari or Elqui valleys…some great stuff starting to happen there!

  • LICORICE WHIPS! My sister used to LOVE them. Mullet = versatile? I love me some Rhone. Never had Saint Joseph white, though would love a rec on a good one.

QOTD: My dual trips to Montreal. 1st one for my friend's bachelor party, and the second with my wife for a culinary and cultural expedition.

  • Another good effort even if the CDR's did't bring the thunder you wanted. I have to say I like the Rhone whites more than the reds. Grilled seafood with Perrin Reserve Cotes du Rhone Blanc which is a blend of 50% grenache blanc, 20% viognier, 15% marsanne and 15% roussanne is “Stupid Good.” I will say the nose of this wine can be a bit funky. Tends to smell like a pair of Chuck Taylors you used at low tide to go claming then threw them in your trunck where they never dried.

QOTD: I am looking forward to Sunday, September 19, 2010 @ 4:15 PM. Ya know you can make anything look good on paper but can the Jets really bring the thunder? I say, NO.

  • I'm so jealous.

  • FLY OUT and I have done 3 SF parties ! πŸ˜‰ a SD live event πŸ™‚

  • thnx so much Jason πŸ™‚

  • Would like to try the first wine for myself to see if it's as bad as you perceived. All about the journey, right ;-).

QOTD: not much of a big event person lately, but I am looking forward to finish my home maintenance on Sunday, lots of repairs going on.

  • AdamJunk

It was really cool to get a few minutes to chat with you on Saturday. I was the guy who got you to sign my wrist band after the first taping but my stupid sharpie didn't work. I have to admit I was a bit star struck but you were super down to earth and took time to speak, take pics and sign with everyone there. Had a great time at the open house but couldn't make it to the after party. My pregnant wife wasn't feeling well so we had to head back to PA. Which brings me to the…
QOTD: September 16th. Birth of my second son. Can't wait. The first one is the greatest 2 year old ever! Anyway, I probably won't make the 25th due to the new baby and all, but hopefully you'll keep this thing going and I'll hit up another one soon. Peace In The Middle East!

P.S. What's up with all those cages outside of your office? creepy…???

  • great show, nice and tight…showing us the Cote du Rhone. Had a couple of CA Rhone whites this spring with Randall Grahm…he's a high quality madman and the original Rhone Ranger. Le Cigar Blanc is Roussanne and Grenache Blanc…rich and tasty.
The Chateau Signac sounds great and the price is not too steep…unlike the Bernard Gripa.

QOTD: going to check out the Killington Wine Festival on Saturday, and Magnum party at a friends place on Monday (he's a local distributor), but mostly looking forward to August 7th…we are having the second annual RosΓ© Party in the neighborhood, and coupling it with our 15th wedding anniversary. Cheers!

  • Must have been before my time… I made you're Crush It tour stop in Pasadena though… I'm not worried… you'll be out here πŸ˜‰

  • RyanG

I really enjoyed today's show. Your comments about drinking a cote du Rhone with hot dogs and BBQ was interesting to me. I've never tried wine with hot dogs.

Now that the “cup du monde” is over, I'm all about the Tour de France. Seeing the French countryside and watching the sprints and crashes is exciting. Even though Lance is out of the running for the yellow jersey, I'm still stoked to see him ride the tour one last time

  • ERog

QOTD: All over the Tour de France now. One of my favorite sporting events.

I was going to drink from the Rhone today as I had a Gigondas I was really excited to open, and after all the buildup, it was corked. Disappointing after so much excitement, like the St. Joseph.

  • QOTD: First, moving into our new house, second, watching the final week of the Tour de France, and third, hoping the Detroit Tigers make the playoffs.

  • Did he say “kirschy” on the 3rd wine? I friggin love kirschwasser. Yum. Might have check out the Signac.

And still a massive fan of the old school routine. Legit.

QOTD – The start of football!

  • ErieWineGuy

    Great show as usual!

QOTD: I'm doing it. Spending time with my parents – painting, landscaping, cleaning, having dinner together…

Next, my sister coming from Asheville, NC to visit, then the North East, PA Cherry Festival, then the North East Grape Festival, then the North East wine festival, then maybe a concert at the Chatauqua Institute…Oh, the Roar on the Shore motorcycle event here in Erie…car shows…just grilling cheeseburgers in my back yard…

Actually, everyday I look to God and say, ” Thank you Lord for dying for me, and I look forward to coming home and being with You”.

    ' nuff said.

  • castello

I had to wiki it but it sounds AWESOME. Way better than grappa? Gonna get me some Kirschwasser!

  • Oh man.. I am SO envious. I love all the wineries you mentioned!
    Yeah, Gary… how about it?

  • castello

    birds used to live there?
Good on ya and the latest Adam Jr.
Gary is way down to earth, and Sasha too. They are happy to talk to us!

I am a lurker, I am sorry. I've been watching wltv for well over two years and love it to pieces. The reason for me coming out of hibernation and leaving a comment is for a few reasons. First, i am so tired of people writing in and telling you to not talk as much and not to bullshit. I feel so bad for you every time you say “this show was good it was tight, not so much extra talking” you look so sad and disappointed because im sure you didnt create this show to sound like the guy at bevmo doing those retarded tastings. The reason why i've watched your show for two years is because of who you are and seeing your passion for wine through your enthusiasm and your crazy ass way of doing these, that's what wltv is for me. It's a sick show. The only time i dislike wltv is when you have episodes like this, stop trying to be so serious because your not good at it, spread those wings dude! This is how i would rate the episode today if it were a bottle of wine: Bad entance, hallow mid palate, absolutely nonexistent finish and an awkward noise (i.e. the guests who agreed with everything you said) this episode reminds me of an 89' opus one. I'd give this episode 79 points, kind of like the saint joseph you just tasted, disappointing. I'm used to 97' 96' opus one when im watching WLTV (and im being generous here with you Gary, i just eat two oatmeal raisin cookies, their my favorite, im in a great mood, hence the score). Spread those wings son! Don't listen to the naysayers, i want the old gary back.

Sorry it's so lengthy, ive been in hibernation for a while and couldn't take the blasphemy any longer. And for all you people who think what i just said is mildly selfish (which it kind of is, im aware of that), I think the great wrestler Triple H said it the best, “SUCK IT”

    I'm out!!

  • castello

It better be in a good way. Is it available?

  • aeo2164

Im starting a petition. Mott as a guest. Who is with me?

  • castello

Good info. Nice to hear from you.
Not so quiet death this time.

  • Scottish beer are grrreaaaat

  • tjvalla

Good stuff, Gary! Love those little wine nerdy facts as well!
Although not in complete accord with @Justrelax86, I think there is an important message:
Keep bringing the THUNDER by whatever means you see fit – we all watch the show because of you!

By the way, let's see if other Vayniacs get on the @aeo2164 bandwagon – would be cool to have Mott as a guest on the show!

  • YoungDave

I was equally devastated about the Saint Joseph blanc sucking… MAN I was pulling for that wine to show what I love about Rhone whites!

QOTD: I cannot wait for the housewarming BBQ that we will be having now that we are in our new place here in LA, an event that will be coupled with the celebration of my quarter century anniversary on this planet… YES- the ol' 25 b-day!
