line of the day – ‘I feel like I’m drinking a cloud’

Really enjoyable show – it usually is when GV is drinking bubbles. Definitely makes me want to go out and try some immediately. Love the way he pronounces Pinot Meunier as Pinot Manure!

  • Have a great weekend everyone

  • Dale Cruse

Grower Champagne? My fave! Here's how to identify it by the label: http://drinksareonme.net/post/745641829/how-to-

  • Steve_r_vb

good episode im always intrigued b champagne

  • Cham-Pag-Na! Yes! Wait? I am in the top 5? The seal of the apocalypse may have been opened.

  • johnfarrin

    top 10

  • Winedrink

Spot on with your champagne video! Champagnes are under glorified as food wines – Perfect and you cannot go wrong before during and after a meal – except with wedding cake (unless sweet)

  • QOTD – Was lucky enough to have a glass of 2000 Dom. Pretty amazing stuff.

  • Dale Cruse

QOTD: Champagne Henriot Cuvee des Enchanteleurs 1995

I'm also drinking a glass of sparkling wine every day for a year & chronicling my quest at http://drinksareonme.net

  • castello

    top ten bubbles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WpgGord

QOTD: Best Champagne I've had was the Legras Brut Blanc de Blancs that you recommended out in the snow a couple of years back. Thanks!

  • KDawg

damn you gary for letting the secret out on Jose Dhondt. Always love their stuff

QOTD: the best sparkler I've had is a 90 Alain Robert Blanc de Blancs Reserve Le Mesnil. Absolutely gorgeous and makes me crave it now

  • Dang- love all the fizz under the “Champagne et Villages” family. Paul and Francoise are incredible people. Need to find the Dhondt now.

Props on the double pour w/ fizz, but Pinot “Menure”? ; )

QOTD 2- Lady Dirty in town for her B-Day and hitting di Rosa preserve in Carneros

  • nitaT

    finally.. a champagne show!
i purchased a few bottles at your store during the open house.. not these — i want the jose dhondt .. i think i have one not the blanc de blanc.

WOTD1: best== man .. i am doing a little lifetime study of champagne-i have started looking for and drinking as many grower champagnes as i can find..
i will give you one of my fav–ok 2.. vilmart and egly ourlet.
ohhhhhhh billecart salmon-rose (which i see you have so i know where to get more!) i had last weekend at per se in nyc… OMG!!
oh and Ruinart rose .. yum..
    see i cant pick 1 or even 2 ..

WOTD2: this weekend- well tonight i am going to copper beach in connecticut for dinner- drinking – probably bubbles since, like you, it is my beverage of choice.

love you gary! keep doing what you do because it matters — to me anyway.

  • jenna35

I enjoy champagnes when they are not only for special occassions!
Long Beach Island for the weekend! I have to bring my wines with me. I picked up some qpr wines at WL last Saturday. Here are the links: http://winelibrary.com/wines/45303-2008+Paso+A+… and http://winelibrary.com/wines/28193-Candoni+Pino

  • Hardy, how do you pronounce “Meunier”? I say it like “moon-yay”.

  • KAHUNA

Holy crap you get nervous and all studdering saying those French Names – I can not imagine how bad the girl who got your cherry had it

  • Same way- but heck, I add a touch of dirty south twang and make the “yay” 2 syllables 😉

  • WineWoman

QOTD: Krug Rose, but I also enjoyed the 02 Cristal and even more the Bollinger.
Going to a friends for a BBQ if weather holds up. Haven't made the wine selections yet.

  • KAHUNA

Do not really see much bubby going with dried meats unless it is one of those shiraz bubblies from australia-

at Del Posto they paired a beutiful rose' champagne with a Tuna dish but it over powered the Rose' however it amazingly went well with the truffle pasta

  • Tracy M

Gee Gary . . . I usually can forgive your butchery of great French wine names, but I really couldn't finish this episode. PINOT MANURE??!!!??
Come on Gary, you should know better.
    Oh yeah, it's “Perrier-Jouet” too, pronounced Jhoo-ette.

  • Kahuna, are you not into Lambrusco? That Italian sparkler rocks with dried meats.

Suddenly I want meat-based antipasto & Lambrusco. Damn you, Kahuna! 😉

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Sparkling Shiraz!!!!

  • Alexandre-CF

Hey gary, out of rebulls?? LOL
but i'm so into sparkling and this 2 great wines, the show deserve 90pts.

    QOTD : Dom P, NV.
QOTD 2: A huge party for my friend B day.

  • KAHUNA

Excellent point Dale- I really can not remember the last time I paired a sparkler with some good dried meats- ok I will put that on deck- Great just what I need another reason to eat cured dead animal- I have a few Lambrusco's at home and dried meats are a staple -though I tend to have Lambrusco with a pound a Parm. Regiano – LOL

    Bastard!

  • Making Kahuna crave cured dead animal & drink booze is like making Sasha Vaynerchuk crave bread.

    Jerk!

  • drt999

QOTD — never had an outstanding sparkling wine, and I haven't decided what to open Sunday yet! Hoping for inspiration

  • ooh! bubbles!

  • drt999

I think 'pinot manure' will be on the next few highlight shows. . . .

  • did he say pinot MANURE?

    mun-yay 😉

  • gotta do that pairing man! you will not regret it…heck find some nice, reasonably priced cava, and you can have a few bottles…we know you can handle it.

  • we might all need to pitch in and get him some french lessons, I think….

  • A dumb Rhein king

lol. I see you've already had your french name lashing, so I will let it go 😀

I noticed that you're wearing the GV shirt, don't you have any of the oak monster shirts left? … hehe sorry, couldn't help myself 😛

QOTD1: I haven't had too much of the bubbley. Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Extra Dry is the only one that I've documented in Cork'd, but it was a 90 so it probably was the best one I've tried. I had it last new years. We hosted a party and then I ended up getting sick (fever) two hours before it started, but I still waited until after midnight to go to bed because I didn't open it up for nothing :).

QOTD2: I have a wedding to go to, so we'll see what is in store there. I plan on polishing off this bottle of Marquette that I have open tonight (not much left).

  • Brunellofello

This episode was like Champagne itself: clean and crisp. QOTD1: I tasted Dom at a friend's wedding years 20 years ago and I still remember how smooth it was. QOTD2: When you mentioned Champagne and Sushi today, my mouth started watering just thinking about it. I'm going to do it tonight.

  • Champagne & sushi is my all-time favorite wine & food pairing. I particularly like sashimi, but go nuts!

  • In the tastings I've attended, the grower champagnes have certainly stood out…
Been fishing for cremants though lately.

    QOTD:
    recently – Barone Pizzini ROSÈ
nostalgia – New Years Eve Y2K we had a bottle of 1978 Dom Perignon that I had bought in Epernay during a high-school trip to Paris in 1985 for 400 Francs (10 F / $1 at the time!). Had bought a couple, one was consumed with friends at high-school graduation, the other was gifted to my parents for their 20th anniversary…they held on to it, and gave it back to me in 1999.

QOTD2: As luck would have it, I'm going to the trade tasting of the Killington Wine Festival – grand tasting at 4241'…my mission is to seek the bubblies, for the retail store I help via tasting notes.

  • castello

I haven't had any memorable bubbles in a long time. 50 bones! How about a cindy offering!

  • did that Marquette see any time in oak, or is it naked?

  • Nice episode.. found a couple places near here who carry the Dhondt…

QOTD: a '95 Dom… given to us from friends when our son graduated HS last year… had Dom many times before with less than stellar results, but this bottle BROUGHT THE THUNDER!!!

  • Great show Gary, quick and dirty 😉

The amazing thing is: I found the Jose Dhondt Blanc De Blanc for 21?! Just ordered a 3 pack.

    @QOTD
Best bubbles? I would say a 1992 Taittinger Blanc de Blanc Art Edition.

  • tight show, but it's friday man… couch, man!!!

sparkling goes well with lots of vegetarian food. Making an aubergine, tomato, squach tarte that would go well with any champagne.

QOTD: Palmer& Co Millésime Brut last new years. The best champagne I've tasted so far.

  • waynooo daaa wino

    DUUUUUURRRRRR BUUUUUUUUUUUUUBBBBBBBLLLLLLLEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • laurieinvt

QOTD1: Moutard NV Brut Rose de Cuvaison so far
QOTD2: Either dubbing around a nursery sale, farmer's market, and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum (new building and exhibit) or, more probably, given the phone call I just took while watching this, getting a middle of the night call and taking a trip up to FAHC to see our 1st grandbaby! (…speaking of champagne!)

  • I've had that Moutard NV Brut Rose recently. It was excellent & I couldn't help but think it drank like a red wine!

  • Kathy Hughes

Love bubbles shows; thank YOU, Gary !

QOTD: Dining at home with family (the best): menu, guacamole salad (yummy) followed by salmon, spuds and spinach, with fresh fruit and cheese selection for dessert. Drinking Galinois Grand Cru Brut. ….Best Champagne/sparkling wine I've had???….I haven't had it yet….after 2 sips they all taste great to me. Happy Weekend to ALL, Naples Kathy aka Champagne Lady

  • laurieinvt

I believe two of the couples from our wine group will be at Killington- don't know which tastings tho. Sounds like great fun!

  • waynooo daaa wino

Yo Castello, Ya can't be serious!!???!!! There's
ZIIIILLLIIOONS of GOOOOD BUBBBLLYYYS out there……

  • Wrong episode in the iTunes feed, guys. The podcast feed has this show listed, but it's yesterday's Rhone show.

  • laurieinvt

It did, actually, which explains in part why the confirmed white-o-phobe of our group enjoyed it so much! We had it with a chilled strawberry soup: wonderful!

  • camira

best sparkling was philipponnat royal reserve nonvintage. i never remember names but i decided to write this one down. fantastic. and im drinking macallans right now.

  • NeilMc

A picnic at the Stern Grove Music Festival in SF.
