line of the day – ‘I feel like I’m drinking a cloud’

Really enjoyable show – it usually is when GV is drinking bubbles. Definitely makes me want to go out and try some immediately. Love the way he pronounces Pinot Meunier as Pinot Manure!

    Gary,

gonna try this Dhondt and hope it does the trick, still have not had my world changed by Champagne. That being said, love bubbles, but no standouts as of yet.

This weekend? Dry aged, wood grilled ribeye and MD Carnival of love. I am already starting to cry a little for how good its going to be

  • wizzardsblog

I can answer Q2. I'm going ghost hunting saturday evening/sunday morning.

  • Anonymous

    Where did you find it?

  • TheGreatWazu

If I were you I'd say Manure from now on. Just because.
Eating crabcake sandwiches and tuna steaks down the shore. Best bubbles I ever had…Welches at my daughter's birthday party!

  • ZachNYC

Good show. I like the Head to Head tastings.

QOTD #2 – Huge BBQ at the house with lots of friends and family. Serving the Cindy 6 pack just received!

  • That glass ALMOST tipped there…I was totally holding my breath. Glad I read the clarification on the pronunciation, as I too am imperfect with French/German words sometimes. Glad to have a bubbly show. Pour out a little for the couch under repair.

QOTD1: A bunch mentioned PH, Krug, and many others. I need to try more, and I've got two to look out for once I get a reprieve on my wallet.
QOTD2: Most likely a chill weekend making various things…a pesto may be in the works. I don't know what we'll open up on the wine front, though I will likely post a beer review at some point.

  • Jhart44

QOTD: Best sparkler? Hands down a bottle of Heidsieck Monopole Blue that I ordered (in German!) at the hotel in Switzerland where my folks and I were traveling. It happened to be their 25th anniversary, and, since they didn't speak German, they had no idea it was coming until the waiter arrived with the bottle and congratulations. Great memory!

  • Lover of the bubbles, @dalecruse is really getting me into them!!

QOTD: Drinking Line 39 Petite Sirah from the north coast of California.

  • Andrew Freeth

Would a Blanc De Blanc match risotto?

  • QOTD1: Probably the Larmandier Bernier Rosé de Saignée. The color on this was ridiculous, as was everything else about it. Phenomenal. Grower Champagnes are the way to go.

QOTD2: Well, I'm working all weekend so that means I'll be drinking espresso before work and cold beer with a shot (or two) of tequila after. I am going to see The Avett Bros. on Sunday night though, which should be great.

  • A dumb Rhein king

The one that I'm tasting is naked. I'm not getting any oak flavors. I know that the reserve by the same peeps (WineHaven) has oak.

  • QOTD 1: 1998 Jacquart Blanc De Blanc for our 10 year wedding anniversary. The tile kitchen floor actually got more then I did. Darn slippery hands 🙁

QOTD 2: Had a fire lit under my butt today about getting second bedroom ready for #1 son to move into so #2 son can have his old bedroom. My wife has 15 weeks, and I need to get on the ball.

Best bubbles…cannot remember the vintage…but celebrated with several bottles of Salon Champagne recently with friends…so good!

This weekend…breaking open G Emiliana Organico from Chile…see what my taste buds think!

  • DANG, 95 pts. That might be the highest pt rating I have heard Gary give. Gotta go find the Jose Dhondt Blanc De Blanc.

QOTD1: Don't recall the best sparkling wine I have ever had.

QOTD2: Interesting that you should be wearing the fruit bomb tshirt. I am enjoying a bottle of cab/merlot that I totally was into 10 years back, now my palette picks it up as a total fruit bomb.

  • Pats-Pwr

QOTD 1: Can't recall any specific sparklers, but I do enjoy me some Brachetto d'Acqui, Prosecco, and Moscato d'Asti.

QOTD 2: This weekend I plan on catching the new Christopher Nolan film “Inception” in IMAX.

  • castello

Great to hear from you Kathy. You are the one that sabered with Gary?

  • Apollo

  • castello

I know, but after searching for a fancier one and spending lots of bones I have come back to the good old Cali Sparklers for under 20 and lately they are fine but….. I may have to try these two.

  • Williamfbuckleyjr

hmm, somehow, I feel like I'm being conned on this one.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

I am taken aside by a GV 95 pointer! I trust my palate, but will have to see where this ranks in my taste for Champagne. Good, quick show. Right to the point and with enough info to last me the weekend!

QOTD 1: I'm going to go with Paul Bara Rose NV. Everything has a time and a place and I believe to mood contributed to such a great sparkling wine in the end. Next runner up is the Krug NV. Vegas, cigars, etc., you get the picture.

QOTD: Getting ready to head out to a nice restaurant and pray they have a “decent” wine selection. After watching this, I want the bubbly. I have to work for a bit in the morning, but after that, I may hit the wine store for some stocking up. Who knows? Maybe the Home Depot… I may not have that much time…lol!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Wayne, you are out of control! LOL!!!!

  • waynooo daaa wino

I'm pretty much happy wit the Cali Bubblies from Schramsberg, Iron Horse, Roederer Estate, Mumm Napa, etc. that can be had for 15 ta 25 Bones. Duval-Leroy is not a Shabby Champagne & it can be had for around 26 Bones…..

  • waynooo daaa wino

Yo Ray, i have a tendency ta go a tad Berserk now & then…..??….. ;o)

  • Tjo1913

The 99 Argyle Extended Tirage Brut was incredible. I sampled it at an Oregon tasting @ the Stonehedge IN (MA) and wished I would have picked up a few bottles.

  • DAveAll

I like only a few champagne or sparkling wines. Fun to seek out.

in 40 years, what will GV be like on this show? I wonder.

QOTD: watermelon weekend. Saturday cutting down trees. Sunday on pontoon boat – and both have watermelon in them. wine? afterwards, dry Riesling.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Hahaha!!! : )

  • Cam McPhee

best champagne ever tasted Charles Heidsieck Blanc De Millenaires 95 incredible texture for a blanc de blanc with its extra aging on the lees. watch the bubbles coming for New Zealand, we kick ass in crisp, clean blanc de blanc 🙂
All Blacks (kiwis) are playing the Springboxs (South Africans) in the Rugby union tonight in our capital city Wellington. the kiwis are looking at beating the world champions for the second time 🙂

  • norcalking

Great call on the Argyle Tjo. I had forgotten about it. Probably the best thing I've tasted out of Oregon, and I'm not dissing my neighbor.

    Thank You!

  • Dddwwwkkking

    Gary,
    Another great show.

Ever had the Sophia Cappola sparkling in the little pink aluminum can with the straw?
Came in a four pack? Anybody?
    Na. Me either.

Going up to the mountains for Mom's 80th birthday. Happy birthday Mom.

    Thank you! Very interesting.

    I’m bookmarking this one.

    Remember Gary,

We’re not laughing at you, we’re laughing WITH you….

    Great comment.

  • Emins

Wow, serious show. Straight into the wine. No Jets reference, no LeBron?! (oh, Sasha's not on) Though it sounds like these are serious wines for a serious episode!

QOTD 1: Haven't had enough bubbles recently to have a favorite. They're something I need to explore more.

QOTD 2: Crap. You make me feel bad for not having plans. I need to get on it, thats 0-2 for me today.

  • Great to see the “bubbles!” I enjoyed and have marked down your Blanc de Blanc to pick up.

Qotd 1: Is it wrong to say that I love the bottle of Demi Sec Veuve Cliquot? Sweet in the best possible way! I also have had less bottles of champagne than I have digits on my hands so my tastes my change with exposure.

Qotd 2: All Day Hockey tourney tomorrow! I am pumped. Bringing the thunder.

    Qotd

  • Bubbles Bubbles… I also love the bubbles. Will definitely keep en eye out for the name Dhondt.

QOTD1: best champagne so far has been a Bollinger 2000 just because of the fact that we were having a great time the day we drank it, a barbecue with friends on a mountain retreat.

QOTD2: I'm working this weekend for a presentation due Monday but tonight, Friday, we made Humus and we'll be having a nice dinner, and beers.

  • Steele In Music

This weekend is my best friend Todd's 40th birthday. We're throwing him an amazing dinner party. Just picked up $1,000 of red, white and sparkling wines to pair with the meal from K&L Wine in Hollywood. It's gonna be an epic night of food and grape juice!

  • guest

QOTD 1 I got to try some 97 Salon at a trade tasting and it was not only the best champagne Ive ever had, it was by far and away the best wine Ive ever put in my mouth. I hope I get to drink more of that at some point in my lifetime although at $300+ a bottle I won't be paying for it anytime soon.

QOTD 2 Tonight just going out to shoot some pool, probably go hang out with the rents on Sunday. This episode put me in the mood for bubbles so I'll probably pick some up for Sunday.

  • California Cab Lover

Frank Family Blanc de Blanc and Louis de Grenelle(100%cav.franc) Just delicious!
Going to one of Austin's great airstream trailer “restaurants”with some friends!

  • castello

I have had it. It's pretty good for a canned bubbly and fun too. Some of the Sophia is a little sweet but I think that was in the early years. 5 or so years ago.

  • Dbedini

the best bubbly I remember was a Mum's Cordon Rouge 1965 vintage that I drank sometime in the early 70s. But that could just be memory, not fact. Bubbles with food, any day.

  • I like your shirt!! almost as much as I love the bubbles! I'm with you ~ wine is a condiment so why not include bubbles in your life! I drink bubbles at least once a week and it is understandable why it was reserved for kings and queens in the late 1700s. It is the nectare of the Gods and I'm so glad you did some grower champagnes…will seek them out!

QOTD1: The best glass of bubbles I ever had was Armand de Brignac Brut Gold (Ace of Spades) like angels dancing on your tongue. But my most remembered and buy again would be Pierre Peters Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvée de Réserve; I also like Mumm Napa Brut Prestige; oh and did I mention last week I enjoyed a Perrier Jouët; the week before Mionetto Sergio Rosé; Charlie Heidsieck Blue top…hmm do you see a pattern forming here?

QOTD2: Enjoying life through wine…tonight Luzon Verde Monastrell Jumilla 08 . I have a bottle of Veuve Clicquot that I'm going to open Sunday…my tradition I try to have bubbles every Sunday to start my week off in the right frame of mind! Although this bottle was a gift!

Here's to including a sparkle on a weekly basis in your life!

  • aeo2164

QOTD: Going to see the Phantom of the Opera at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Should be amazing.

Mott as a guest! so far 4 people agree. Will you put your name on the line?

  • aeo2164

    Excuse me 6.

  • Lady L'egance

I've felt like a lurker these past couple weeks do to my lack of commenting. I hope all you Vayniacs can forgive me.The July 10th party looked like so much fun.

    QOTD1: 04 Gramona Cava.

QOTD2: I'm going to try to get out and see Inception, it looks freaking awesome!

  • love these quick hitting episodes. WE WANT MOTT!!! as a guest, or maybe do his own show call it the lighting show, quick flashes of insights from the man, myth legend.

QOTD1: never had any that were memorable

QOTD2: Making my famous Spaghettii and meatballs now to open a chianti or barbera. Heck i'll just open both

  • ErieWineGuy

Nice show again. It's really cool when a wine is exciting and so well made that it produces that kind of passionate reaction and score!

QOTD1: Dom Perignon, don't know the vintage, 30+ years ago, by a lake, under the stars with a warm summer breeze and a beautiful girl.

I don't actually remember what the wine tasted like.

QOTD2: Eat – spinach, tomatoes, oatmeal, strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, V-8 juice.

Drink – Prosecco, Spatlese Riesling, Moscato and Merlot.

    Going to – Hopefully nowhere!

  • D_Rod

    Great show.

QOTD 1: It's between a 1990 and 1999 Jacquart that I had on different occasions. The 1999 was so much more balanced, but the 1990 was just so delicious. Probably the 99, but they were both slammin'

QOTD 2: Enjoying the bachelor life in NYC.

  • The best bubbles I have drink in my life is Asti Mondoro, something of 50$ and up though.
It?s a seductive silk that displays gorgeous peach, pineapple and pear notes with a light-bodied finish ? I looooooooooved drinking it.

  • ErieWineGuy

Well sir, good luck with that!
