QOTD: 198??? Chateau Pichon Lalande Pauillac…. had it in the early 90’s. Can’t remember the exact year but…….I know it was $100…..Yummm!!!!

  • Emmcclelland

I typically agree with you Gary but I recently had a bottle of Smith Haut Lafitte 2005 at my college grad dinner and it blew me away. I’m talking like a 99 blew me away. I completely agree with you on the Tobacco component and I thought the balance was incredible. Definitely young with amazing potential. Excited for the second bottle that we didn’t open.

  • Just Jack

The supermarket stuff was fun, but it is time to put a little more class up in this ma. Looking forward to it.

  • Emmcclelland

And you’ve got to respect the triple threat! Ketchup, Mustard and Relish!

  • Marc Liberts

    Mustard!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Don’t you dare become a lurker…lol.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Ah yeah….the Big Boys!!! Looking forward to this one.

1st QotD: Mustard & Sweet Onions
2nd QotD: I’ve never got to a $100 bottle … yet. I had a Smith Haute Lafitte way back in the late 70’s, I think it cost around $20 CDN.

  • Jarvis

No bull, Mustard and Sauerkraut. Its without a doubt the best. Ketchup is overrated on hot-dogs in my opinion. Relish only on occasion. Funny GV, when you asked about steak, our preferences were the same as well – Pittsburgh rare!

  • imskyhigh

more high end baller wines please!

  • NeilMc

QOTD 1: I have four WLTV wristbands.
QOTD 2: Polish, ‘Kraut, Hot Mustard
    QOTD 3: Le Macchiole Paleo

  • Mad Hatter

QOTD 1: Just the Hot Dog and the Bun.
    QOTD 2: 1977 Dow’s Vintage Port

  • Mad Hatter

Great show today! Nice to see some baller wines with great scores. I really liked last week’s supermarket wines though-nice to see wines that are available and cheap. Keep up the outstanding work-you are definitely in the groove!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Just downloaded Madden 11 on 360. So while I listen to GV talk, I’ve decided to be the Jets and take on Indy!!! : )

Yeha disqus is starting to disqust me. I have to sign in every time I want to post a comment and I can;t edit my comments. It’s disqusting!!!!!… 🙂

  • Great show. This is the kind of show that got me hooked in the first place.

    QOTD 1: 1 wristband
    QOTD 2: Ketchup, Mustard, Kraut
QOTD 3: Domain Tortochot from 05… absolutely nuts wine!

  • Teknojoe

    MUSTARD ONLY!!

  • Sporting a new haircut?! Do not have the thunder band but would love to represent the thunder on the west coast.

QOTD: I eat my hotdogs with raw onions and mustard. Copious amounts of both!

S QOTD: I have not had many ( I think only four in my short life) however, I was really taken with Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 I had a couple of years ago. I remember the mood was right–great dinner with the ex-gf and her family–and the “mouth feel” on that wine was sensuous.

  • Acblakney

QOTD: Either 2007 El Nido or 2005 Noellat Vosne Romanee Les Beux Monts

  • Mott

Try updating your browser. If you using IE you should be on IE 8.

  • Jaybird76

I got me one of them, that was the 3nd release. I actually just had a hot dog for dinner… Cut up, no roll and dipped in mustard w/mac salad on the side.
The best $100 wine I’ve had is a tough question. A wine I got from Cinderella for $99 may be cheating since release price is much higher, but hands down 2000 Aldo Conterno Gran Brussia Barolo.
But based on release price I have to say it was a 2005 Pierre Naigeon Mazys-Chambertin Cuvée Vieilles Vignes.

  • QOTD #1: I have not partaken of a bottle of wine that is anywhere on par with what you had on this episode. I need to at least try one.
QOTD #2: Spicy Mustard, Onions, and a dash or two of hot sauce.

  • Daverdude

    2. qotd 1- mustard and sauerkraut (shout out to Hot Dog Johnny’s)
    3. qotd 2- At the time, I don’t believe I have ever had a $100 bottle of wine.

  • Joe D.

QOTD 1: Standard Dog = Mustard & Ketchup
QOTD 2: Best $100 Bottle = 2001 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

  • Teknojoe

Favorite $100 wine?….. Drank many, but recently…… 2000 Pape Clement

  • NY Pete

  • Just Jack

One of new favorite lines: “It’s like China Exploded into Mexico and you smelled it and said this is really nice”.

I liked this show. There is a lot of value, for me anyway, when GV tastes stuff that we wouldn’t be likely to drink in the normal course of our day; Either because of price, origin, varietal etc. It is educational and I like it. It is also fun to watch GV whip out the 95. It doesn’t happen often.

side QOTD: Mustard and onions. I use to have ketchup and then I moved to the Chicago area for a second. In that city, you either stop using ketchup or you risk getting your ass kicked, so I gave it up and discovered they were right

main QOTD: It is a really tough call. there have been some great ones but I have very fond memories of a 2003 Clarendon Hills Astralis Syrah I had earlier this year. It was old world meets new and I loved it. I don’t know how much it was retail but it was $400 on the list (Probably $350 most places but there is a “Vegas premium” that we have to pay here just to make sure the casinos don’t go broke).

  • NY Pete

this QOTD needs some thought … be back later.

  • waynooo daaa wino

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o)

Gotta love shows where each rinse costs $10!
QOTD1: No, I have 4 but that & the original black elude me
QOTD2: I really wish I could scream “I’m a vegetarian, you insensitive prick!” that would be too funny, but no, I’m a plain ketchup & mustard guy when it comes to a stadium dog (I know mustard only is the ‘right’ way) but I love the places that make really creative dogs. I love sauerkraut on my brats, though
QOTD3: I’ve never had a $100 bottle of wine. The most expensive was the Barolo you poured at the 7/10 tasting ($85WL/$40 elsewhere as we discovered today on the CW forums) and I thought it was amazing

  • Anonymous

WAIT!! No, I HAVE! 7/10 the Dominus! Also amazing!

  • waynooo daaa wino

MOTTSTER to the RESCUE AAAAGAAAAAAIIIIIIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;o)

  • waynooo daaa wino

Yo Randi, Contact the MOTTSTER. He SOLVED my Disqus Problem!!!

  • Jay

Hot dog with some ketchup, maybe a little mustard.
Saurkraut belongs in its own meal with some real German wursts and ham. 🙂

  • Bring MORE MORE MORE of these shows… U KILLED IT!!!

QOTD1: No,still waiting for my wristband from my ‘live’ GV phone call on UStream many moons ago

QOTD2: Mott… Noooooooooooo…!!! Here’s a nice quote from one Harry Callahan, Detective, San Francisco PD: “Nah, this stuff isn’t getting to me, the shootings, the knifings, the beatings, old ladies being bashed in the head for their social security checks. Nah, that doesn’t bother me. But you know what does bother me? You know what makes me really sick to my stomach? It’s watching you stuff your face with those hotdogs. Nobody, I mean nobody puts ketchup on a hot dog.”

    QOTD3: 1986 Dominus I had prurchased, drank on Halloween night, 2008… B-U-T-Full!!!

  • waynooo daaa wino

    WINECRAZY IIIIIIINNN DAAAA HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUSSSSSEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    FOUR!! lucky guy!

  • CJ

Petit Verdot …. rules OK !!

    Cheers Gary !!

    CJ

  • QOTD 1: Polish sausage with ketchup, mustard, lots of relish, sauteed onions, and cream cheese. The bun must be toasted a bit as well. Great hot dog stand down the street that kills it for $5.

QOTD 2: ’81 Pichon-Lalande that I bought for my buddy David’s birthday 2 weeks ago.

  • Anonymous

QOTD #1. Mustard, chili, relish, sometimes ketchup, and (oh yes, definitely) sauerkraut.
QOTD #2. I haven’t quite made it to Mr. Franklin’s neighborhood yet, I’m afraid. In the high dollar area, though, I’ve got to go with any number of Chateauneufs. I must agree with you about Chateauneuf Du Pape, Gary. I’ve found it almost impossible to go wrong with these excellent wines.

  • Anonymous

yes, got one. Tried to get my grandma to knit me one – it says “Whine Library”, guess I wasn’t clear. . . .
wow. that’s a price line up! phew. Sasha agreed when you opened these? haha.
we don’t want you to get naked with us, either. but funny comment.
I”m amazed you dumped. and rinsed with $100-$150 wines. Can you auction off the bucket? :*)
QotD: Best $100… real price, not restaurant price, was a Chateauneuf du Pape in France, wish I had written it down. Best $100 restaurant price – Smoking loon. hahaha.

  • Drllucas

brown mustard -or- chili with onions and grated colby.

Haven’t had a $100 wine yet. Best I’ve had so far is a 2005 Charles Krug Cab.

Great show. I have had the Usseglio twice and ironically I thought it showed much better about 18 months ago. It was profound and pretty mindblowing. I had it again about 2 months ago and was not quite as impressed, I scored it 98 the first time and 94 the second. Maybe it is shutting down and needs sleep. The first one was probably one of the best $100 bottles i have ever tasted. The 2001 Tirant Rottlan Torra Priorat was $75, 98 points parker, and freaking amazing. Just cracked the 07 Dominus and its decanting, time will tell. The 02 Pavie was pretty awesome for the money as well. Hard question… excellent show. and I heartily agree that you should drink wines of this caliber more often on the show!
