    Chocolate and wine, I’m intrigued!

  • You really are on a roll – it’s great to see a new ep every day.

    Interesting….

  • 4 guests left for the year! Designing, chocolate and choose a topping? Chocolate doesn’t need a topping, duh! It’s like order a wine and ask for the maker to top it up with your favourite berry juice. Some red wines goes good with chocolate, not all. White chocolate is just cacao butter (fat) sugar and vanilla, no cacao at all ..
Where does the chocolate coming from, what kind of cacao bean, roasting temperature, what kind of particle size ?
WOW, she didn’t know how to taste chocolate and wine? Bad, Bad, Bad!!! I guess I have to do another show this week just to CRUSH IT.
It is not pushing it to say that dark chocolate is better for you, it is, because it have less sugar and less fat, that’s it. get the facts straight here.
Oh, chewing chocolate, you never get the true taste, it has to melt in your mouth to be a liquid to cover your palate.
Sorry about the chocolate nerdy snobby attitude from me, but I don’t like this, missing a lot of chocolate facts and simple tips to make a chocolate tasting a new and learning experience.
QOTD: Pan fried crocodile with an Indonesian curry (if you discount the Swedish tradition of pickled raw herring or blood pudding)

QOTD — bear, gator and kangaroo aren’t that exotic, but those are as close as I can come!

  • For me, Top 15 episode ever. Really liked the guest, Mott, good wines.
    QOTD1: Popcorn.
Gary, if you are back to enjoying tomatos and salt, then you MUST order this salt blend from Alden Spice Mill in Michigan http://bit.ly/miracle_blend. I had this on tomatos every day back in the early 90s and I’m still eating it today.
QOTD2: Laos + picnic + not knowing = “you just ate dog, ha ha”

  • Allan

4 guests to go….. hmmm……? if you say so G.

  • Hinrgman

    great episode

  • Anonymous

Okay, so this guest reminds me of Nika Marx from Entourage. That’s a good thing.

  • Hinrgman

    Like the Brunello

  • A show with my 2 favorite things. Sparkling wine and dark chocolate. 🙂

    The yummiest episode yet.

Okay, so I started out the show not liking Adeline very much but she grew on me throughout the episode. Really like a lot of wines that need some breathing time to transform themselves from shrill little tartlets to unctious, smooth, self confidant cheesecakes.

QOTD I: No, I am a firm advocate of the Julia Child philosophy, “There is nothing wrong with anything if done in moderation” 🙂
QOTD II: OMG! I’m so unadventurous it’s disgusting. Fear Factor was my ultimate nightmare. I literally could heave just thinking about having to eat those things.

  • No hershey’s miniatures for you…. 😛

  • Phaser

Really nice show! Again the food pairing are the best, I’m surprised Shasha did not hop in!

QOTD In Panama, in the jungle there are these little gray monkeys, it was a military training, and they would just come up to you.. we had to eat something?the MRE?s were gone so..

  • slave2thevine

very enjoyable episode and guest. got some good pairing ideas. is chocbite available in any retail stores, or only online?

  • Hoze67

One of the best shows to date. Loved the pairings and all the comments and Adeline was a wonderful and animated guest.

Ever had a balut from the Philippines??? Really bad…

  • I have eaten maguey worms from the Tequila plant and ?mexican barbacoa tacos? which are a mix between cheek meat, eye ball, tongue, and head meat?..delicious!!!! with some corn tortillas and a chile de arbol salsa?OMG!!! Amazing…

  • PearlGirlWhirl

QOTD: Pigs Brains–occasionally daddy would scramble them with eggs for breakfast…

  • PearlGirlWhirl

Julia & the French, they have it right when it comes to food. Missing Julia…

  • Reminds me of visiting family in the Caribbean, asking them to translate what we are ordering from the menu, and they only say “Try it, you’ll like it!” Ha!

  • Suziq

Oops me again….not a good listener…I thought Gary asked a QOTD earlier about anything you have eaten so much of that you then could not eat anymore for a long time…..HER QOTD…for me….crocodile and chocolate covered grasshoppers….

  • Adeline, what a character, great guest! Best of luck with CHOCbite, you are
    really on to something…

SideQOTD: Everything in moderation 🙂 Closest I came to overload was with
    Golden Grahams.

QOTD: Blood pudding, gator tail, beef heart and beef tongue, but nowadays you
can even get all that stuff in a small town grocery store. Gotta try something
    crazy this weekend.

It’s awesome you live in Austin. Austin rocks!!! I am a UT alumn, go Longhorns!!! Ne ways, I don’t usually like the pairing of chocolate and red wine but I will give it another try after watching this show.

QOTD: Grew up eating chicken fried squirrel. Love duck, squirrel, and rabbit gumbo. Monkfish liver. I’ve eaten Balut- a Filipino specialty of fermented duck fetus. Grilled Jack-Rabbit. Rattlesnake and rabbit sausage. I will eat anything,……at least once.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Argentine Blood Sausage. Haggis. Chicken Assholes in Korea and Philippines. Green Mango with Shrimp Paste.

You know you’re stuff dude! White Chocolate is not Chocolate! I’ll be checking out your show.

Wasn’t really bad for me, but definitely was not good. Just tastes like a stronger flavored hard boiled chicken egg, with foul smelling juice running out of it. Its better with sea salt and cane vinegar.

My friends have a holiday party where exotic meats are bbqed up all night. Crocodile, python, ostrich, lion, bear and goat are some of the highlights.
As AndersN said earlier. Get the facts right on chocolat.
Lovely guest though and I will be ordering some custom DARK for my B-day.

  • Chris Hadley

QOTD: alligator sausage when I was in New Orleans. Had frog as well but wasn’t impressed. Loved the alligator sausage.

  • Nice episode.. cool site she has… will be ordering…

Side QOTD: was a cook at a fish restaurant for 3 1/2 years… all mesquite grilled… we served lobster tails on a skewer (without the shell)… we used to sneak them all the time… ate so much while there that I really don’t enjoy lobster all that much anymore…

QOTD: Frog legs and alligator chili…

  • Anonymous

SideQOTD: Can we add vanilla vodka to the tequila and Southern Comfort list?

QOTD: I got back from China and Vietnam a couple weeks ago and ate some really weird things – thankfully, I didn’t know what most of it was. The identifiable things I did eat were scorpion, lamb’s testicles, and some silkworms.

  • Interesting show. I have raved about the Alycone and its chocolate notes for some time now. Glad to see you have it on your show.

QOTD: The most adventuresome I have been is eating frog legs cruising down the River Seine overlooking a bright lit Notre Dame. Quite memorable and oh so delicious.

    Cheers!

P.S. Your guest was quite hot. 😉

Pass on the chocolate. Just give me the Brunello.
