  • Great show, I was really surprised by what actually melds with chocolate.

QOTD: Probably the most adventurous thing I’ve eaten was a dish of rice and goat given to me by Iraqi soldiers at a shared guard point at a base in Iraq. This was goat raised and slaughtered by the soldier who gave it to me – not some meat bought at your local market. Traded a Mountain Dew for it

My son will have a favorite food and that’s all he wants until he gets sick of it. Then he moves on and rarely goes back. Now at age 12, it’s getting more difficult to find new favorites. As an example he ate Honey Bunches of Oats cereal for breakfast for 2 years before moving on to Cinnamon Toast Crunch for one year. Now he makes omlettes (spell?).

QOTD: maybe an entree I had in Alsace. My husband and I discovered choucroute (spell) but one day I pointed to something random on the menu and who knows what it was.

She has a great voice, very good dialog. Chocbite is a great idea, wonder if we could do wine that way? hmm. WineSip.com ?? I could use the Burger King as my mascot “have it your way”. who else can I rip off? :*)
    Side QotD: nope.
QotD: Had most of what was listed below (except monkey) – but the Broiled Shad Roe made everyone else at the table turn. Fish egg sac, broiled, when you cut into it, the little eggs ooze a little, while you cut and eat. yum.
p.s. Mott – you did great transition on restart!

  • It is only available online at http://www.CHOCbite.com

Gary…great episode and probably your best with a guest (Heidi Barrett is the only one I can think of that can compare). Adeline came across as very relaxed and real and charming. I agree with her description of your store too! I checked out her website and unfortunately her sampler is a bit too pricey for me right now. I may go back and order a bar or 2 just because I’d like to support her. My boring answer to the QOTD is “nothing”. I’d say sushi but everyone eats that now.

Side QOTD: Hot dogs, when I was a teenager. It was a dark time. I don’t like to talk about it.

    QOTD: String cheese.

nice! you’ve made Andrew Zimmern proud.

  • Thank you so much, I had an amazing time with the Wine Library team and in NJ, what a wonderful place to live!

  • I felt like I was sitting have a glass of wine with an old friend, it was incredible!

  • The Alycone is smooth, warm and delicious, what a surprise!

  • Austin is a great place to live (although I am missing New Jersey at the moment)!

  • Thank you, having a blast with chocolate 😉

  • Wow, thanks so much for the compliment!

  • I also ADORE the 1999 Brunello!!!

  • I love that show, thanks, she’s hot!

  • Wow, you are right! I will get them up by the end of day tomorrow, ok?

QOTD: Though I’m a foodie, my comsumption is pretty tame compared to Andrew Zimmerman and Anthony Bourdain. Haven’t eaten any insects by choice, except for ones that might have flown in my mouth by accident and not really interested in eyeballs. I’ve had ostrich, buffalo, all the typical shellfish, octopus, squid, clams, oysters and Sushi–just the basics.

You should have included some Zin with the chocolate tasting. A company has already done the chocolate-wine combination. It’s called ChocoVine. About 10 bones. Tastes like high-powered Yoo-Hoo.

  • Not a fan of this show. I just didn’t get it. It all felt a little sales driven to me. I get that chocolate is a great companion to wine. It just seems like it would have made since to have someone that really is a chocolate expert that is unbiased. It felt a little more like bedazzling my croc’s. This just did not feel sincere. It all was a little flirty the chocolate didn’t really seem to add to the wine. Not at all as enjoyable as pairing with the Cap’N. I think a show of pairing wine with chocolate would be a great show. This just felt like a pitch.

I have to admit, the scorpion was downright tasty!

Mini QOTD: I was sick for a few months, a teacher gave me like 20 cans of pringles, I cannot eat them anymore… completely jumped the pringle shark.

Loved this episode, I’m designing my custom candy bars for my family this week.

I enjoyed this, fun interview, and I like seeing the pairings, I was also impressed by how different your two palates were, that’s kind of cool.

  • I really enjoyed the show… like the solo episodes a little more, but it was playful.

SQOTD: I eat in moderation… it suits my personality. Maybe eggs…?

QOTD:Sheep intestine wrapped around some other thing… it was a French fiasco during Christmas. Worst Christmas dinner ever!

I’m online too late tonight to watch a 30+ minute ep, but I’m looking forward to watching tomorrow!

  • QOTD: The weirdest thing that I have eaten would have to be barbecued eel at a local sushi place with my wife. She loved it, I hated it.

Just ordered some bars from @Chocbite, can’t wait to get them in and try them for ourselves.

I always wonder about the chocolate pairing with wine, now I know. That was a great show and an extremely fun guest. Gary, you didn?t interrupt Adeline as with your pass guest. Quite informative, great job!
Qotd: I think I just have the normal stuff, some people would not eat these but most people would; bloodsicale ,duck tongues, chicken feet, thousand year old egg, frogs legs and stinky tofu. This is a fantastic question. I love to read what people put down.

  • My first episode of WLTV and I loved it. Great dialog between Adeline and Gary.

I’m excited to add wine to my list of hobbies and order some chocolates from ChocBite!

I think we might even have to do a wine and chocolate night @ our studio in Minneapolis.

    My $.02

Side QOTD: This banana granola crunch cereal I was to fiend on for months. Now, even the idea of it makes me gaggy. And that was, like, 25 years ago. Ugh.

QOTD: Probably intestinal lining in a stew. Not bad, though I’m not a huge fan of the texture, which is a little chewy and rough.

  • Randall

Yes, I agree… the reds just made the show PERFECT!!
    😉

  • Don’t make me throw the left over white chocolate at you.

  • Anonymous

Side: I tend to eat a wide variety of things to keep that from happening. I really can’t think of anything.
QOTD: It’s not that uncommon but I’ve grossed a lot of people out telling them I’ve eaten bone marrow.

  • Anonymous

Side QOTD: There was a time during high school when I came home to an empty house every day, and I was always hungry, so I made myself scrambled eggs and ate it as a sandwich because we often didn’t have anything to eat, or at least quickly, every single day for at least a month. I got so sick of it afterward I could barely stand eggs for years later.

QOTD: I’m not sure… I mean, I grew up in southeast Asia, so I’ve had stuff that some people consider weird. Like I used to eat things like balut and cow tongue and something called ‘dinuguan’ which is made of pig’s blood all the time, just as a part of my culture. I’ve had snake, eel, crocodile, frog, geoduck, chicken feet, ostrich, blood pudding, escargot, all kinds of fruits people may have never heard of… I don’t know, most of it is not that weird to me. I’ll try anything once, probably.

Nice job with your guest, GV. If you’ve made a conscious effort to listen to your guests better, let them finish their thoughts and comments, it has shown! Kudos and keep at it, this was a very enjoyable show to watch.

  • murphone

Love the Gloria Ferrer 1999 Carneros Cuvée.

  • Hello rock star! So awesome to see my dear friend Adeline on the show today. So sad that I wasn’t able to come up with her.

Not very adventurous with strange foods, certain things I’m not sure were meant for human consumption…just sayin’

Be sure to check out my Rock Star bar on the ChocBite.com site – sprinkled with 24k edible gold stars! Chocolate, gold and fine wine? Now that’s an exquisite combination!

    Signed,

    Android lover 🙂

    Hey Gary,
That was a nice and fun episode, i´m crazy about the chocolate and wine combo. people really need to try this combo more. white chocolate with apricots and a good sparkling wine for me it´s great.

the show are rocking, 93+ Pts show.

    sideQOTD: sushi, principally salmon fish.

realQOTD: frogs, crocodile and Capybara ( the largest living rodent in the world) in the same night, in a restaurant called something like “weird animal”.

  • FineArtFood

Good episode. Chocolate and wine is a great pairing, but not one I could do a lot of. At least not chocolate bars. I do like chocolate cake and wine though.

QOTD: In a survival class, fresh, raw rabbit eye ball has to be the weirdest. Czernina, exotic game meats, and bugs all seem tame after the eye.

  • Randall

Wow… an Iranian Jew. I’m just glad you and yours were able to get out of that situation, Adeline. Although it has not been as bad as 1930s Germany, it could quickly become like that. Good vibes for your company, as well…

And Gary… this DOES NOT count as a domestic bubbly ep. There are many others to be tasted on TTS. (btw I strongly disagree… they are NOT all too sweet and simplistic.)

    p.s. LLUErker…
    Chocolate covered scorpians-check
    Alligator-check (love it)
    Rattlesnake-check
    Shark-check
    Turtle-check
    Frog’s legs-check
A multitude of other “weird” foods-check
But baluut… NEVER!! Although my life’s slogan seems to be “Pinay or die!” 😉 I will NEVER, EVER eat baluut!! Just freakin’ sayin’…

  • Randall

Oooohhh… “Don’t throw me in that briar patch!!”
    Too esoteric for the kids?
    Okay… How’s this?
“Please throw all the dark, milk, and white chocolate at me that you can!!” 😀
p.s. Don’t forget to throw in some nice reds w/ that, though…

  • NY Pete

    fwiw … I love brunello.

  • Thursday

salt cured jellyfish: not bad… kind of crunchy and refreshing

  • Anonymous

Another fun show with a great guest. I love the concept of her business.

SQOTD: My brother-in-law and I ate at Taco Bell for about 21 days straight.

It took me about 10 years before I could eat there again.

QOTD: Weirdest food? Not too weird at all –

  • Anonymous

Jellyfish has a very interesting texture, doesn’t it? It’s kind of like chewing on tender shoelaces.

  • Anonymous

Have you had durian? Before I went to Vietnam, I promised myself I was going to try it, but when I actually got there and smelled it in all its glory, I bailed. Their stink lingers for blocks!

  • chocolatechoose

Great show Gary and Adeline! I love eating chocolate with a glass of wine. One of favourites is red wine with Green and Black’s white chocolate. It is the most amazing white chocolate I have ever tasted! It’s absolutely creamy vanilla heavenly goodness! Gary – as a white chocolate lover if you haven’t tried it you must! I’ll definately put an order for Adeline’s white chocolate (yummm) when they will ship outside the US! (hint hint)

  • What a fun show, Gary and Adeline! Will definitely buy some Chocbite once my appetite recovers.. Ugh!! Did not like reading the various comments from my fellow Vaniyaks. Disgusting… Really gross! Why eat such things as eyeballs, testicles and insects for heaven’s sake?

  • Anonymous

Really liked the show Gary and Adeline! Have never tried salted chocolate before, but will definitely do so in the near future.

QOTD: Cod milt (tempura and raw), raw liver, raw horse, pigs feet, laver, seaweed

  • Anonymous

Raw Horse? Where and why? How was it? Carpacio(sp)

  • Anonymous

Have you had this one? rating?

  • Anonymous

I had it in Kumamoto, a city located in the south of Japan, where it’s a delicacy. It’s similar to carpaccio, but it is often served with a dipping sauce of soya sauce, ginger and garlic. It’s really good, especially with sake!

    Adeline,

    > Thank you so much, I had an amazing time with the Wine Library team and in NJ,
    > what a wonderful place to live!

I bet after the first few times you needed to get somewhere on time but were late because you were stuck in traffic, you wouldn’t think it was so great living here! LOL But seriously, I really dislike episodes with guests but you were fabulous and interesting. I almost surely will order some chocolate in the next week or two just to try it out.

    Allendale, NJ

  • Nice, Wine and Chocolate, just works. (I know chocri custom chocolates but didn’t know chocbite, they’re basically the same business model, same prices as well. Good stuff)

QOTD: Oh man, I’ve eaten my share of outrageous things: baby monkeys, insects, snake, elk, bear, coyote, turtle, puma, possum, escamoles (ant eggs), flowers, slugs, snails, worms… I will eat everything that is deemed edible by any culture in the world (haven’t had placenta or human though).
