    hey hey

  • NY Pete

    geek it up

  • LurkerKing

Kyle, you disgrace the lurker nation with your blatant use of a name. There’s a difference between “a friend” and “a friend of ours” in the lurkshow mafia. Take heed. Meglio un giorno da leone che cento da pecora.

I like the cindy price better on the Orlando Abrigo … 🙂

I’ve been increasing my Nebbiolo (Barolo) stash ever since you reviewed the 2000 Oberto Vigneto Albarella (transitional wine for me). Guess I’ll have to get some Barbaresco now. Damn you! 🙂

QOTD I: BRANDED umbrella guy may have to be elderly gentleman on the Traveler’s commercials
QOTD II: Betty Boop! I’ve been wanting to score with that bitch for 50 years 😉

I sincerely hope you get the professioal mental health help that you so clearly require 😉

I’m sorry, but you’ll have to leave this site immediately since you’re obviously too young to drink 😉

a tip of the cap to you GV, 3 great shows this week.
    have a great weekend dude.
    you too Chris!

  • Great show!

QOTD: I would share a bottle with John Keating (English professor in Dead Poets Society). Very inspirational fictional teacher character!

  • Anonymous

Umbrella QOTD: My first thought was Albert Wesker, but that’s cheating… maybe the Morton’s Salt girl?

QOTD: I’m trying to think of fictional characters I like who would enjoy a bottle of wine… this may not be the crowd to recognize it, but I feel like Yorrick Brown from the comic Y: the Last Man would probably have an interesting perspective, and at least somewhat appreciate it.

Excellent episode. One of your best. The fictional character that I would share this wine with is Al Pacino’s character in Devil’s Advocate.

  • Anonymous

LOL! I’m sure there are more your age than mine. I’m three times that.so
keeping track of what day it is is starting to be a challenge 😉

    Nico,
Mott is legendary, NOT fictional 😉

  • QOTD: Sherlock Holmes

  • Mott is off the charts 😉

  • Needless to say that my best red wine in 2009 was a Barbaresco:
2004 La Spinetta Barbaresco “Vigneto Valeirano”

  • Randall

    QOTD:
Literary – I don’t read too much fiction, so… Travis McGee?
Film – Not a very good one, but in the V. Kilmer movie “The Saint”, Elizabeth Shue played a physicist that solved “cold fusion”. I’d share my high-end Pinot with her anyday…

  • Totally would not have been a geeky tourist, the WL folks are amazing!

  • Randall

p.s. LOVE the Grape Nerd shirt, Gary…
    😉

when gary put his hands up and talked about putting his balls on the line i thought he was going to rate that like 100 points. guess not hah
aaand i’d share a great nebbiolo with mr hyde

  • QOTD1: Umbrella characters of this generation; we are torn on the morton salt girl, travelers insurance, and the guy from the avengers.

QOTD2: My wife says Roark from The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand). I will go with Maverick and Goose from Top Gun.

Well aside from all the questions of the day, tomorrow I am off to our local wine shop to see if I can track down some barbaresco.

  • I like it when you are tasting a wine and we can tell you are falling in love with it

  • QOTD: The Butter Bandit, cause he needs to expand his palate

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Branded umbrella person—The Original “Aramis Man” Ted Danson

QOTD: Superman–because he could always fly over to Italy and bring back more.

Isn’t the Morton Salt girl like, a child?
That creeps me out more than a little. Especially when one could go with…..The St. Pauli Girl girl!
Instead of those mugs of beer, she has a bottle of Montersino in one hand and a bottle of Riserva in the other. A few big wine glasses dangling under the left hand. Same blouse.

I like how the Rabaja had the bottle number printed right on the front of the label. I have a bottle of Tequila with the bottle number hand written on the back. Nice touch.
Nebbiolo is on my must get list now Gary.

QOTD: Walt Kowalski (From the Movie-Grand Torino)His Quote: Get me another beer, Dragon Lady! This one’s running on empty. Bring him a Glass of White Zin instead and see what would Happen!

O, Morton Salt Girl as in QOTD#1. Sorry, I thought that was an odd choice.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Would have to be Cal Lightman from the TV show “Lie to me” I think it would be interesting to have an ongoing conversation with someone with those kind of people reading skills…

  • A dumb Rhein king

Nebbiolo + Sliders for all the CKCs.

Nebbiolo has been going good for you. Normally when you’re hot on a region/grape it does horribly on the show.

    Dude blueberry/cherry malt.

QOTD1: Salt girl. No one even comes close to the awesomeness of the penguin though.

QOTD2: Srsly, now that the penguin has been said I am going to pick a Batman character. I’m not strong enough right now to think of anything else. Batman himself (cartoon version).

Leonardo or Donatello from TMNT would be good too. How about V from V for Vendetta. Now I’m just rambling, I guess I wasn’t as weak to suggestion as I thought. I pick all of the above. Ooo Selene from Underworld … prrrr prrrr …

QOTD: ET !!!!!! if he enjoyed beer so much imagine what he would think of wine !!!

i have not posted much lately but i am watching gary…. no worries
anyhow – i have been lovin’ the nebbiolo shows of late, really!

I absolutely ADORE Nebbiolo, and I’m glad that you have officially put your BALLS on the line to back it whole-heartedly. Kudos. I fell in love with the varietal a while ago, and a trip to Barolo while staying at a winery’s guest house within one of their vineyards sealed the deal for me. Amazing, inimitable wine.

QOTD 1) All that comes to mind (other than the other Umbrella people mentioned) is Rihanna: “Under my umbrella-ella-ella-ay-ay-ay….”
QOTD 2) Hmmm… I guess David the Gnome, my childhood favorite cartoon.

QotD: I would share a Bottle of Nebbiolo with Jean Luc Picard. Captain of the USS Enterprise.

  • QOTD: Elmer Fudd! It’d take him 20 minutes to finish yapping about it (much like a certain online wine vlog host) and during that time I’d get most of the wine.

Great episode, great question. GO NEBBIOLO!!!

  • Jay

QOTD: The Morton Salt girl is the first umbrella person that came to mind.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I think someone else might have mentioned Gene Kelly in “Singin’ in the Rain”. Great tap number with the umbrella.

I would love to sit down with Grissom on CSI and have a glass of wine. Nothing like a good conversation about dead bodies and bugs.

Thanks for another great episode. Love the history and education piece. (I hope you wiped the spit up off of the floor before poor Mott stepped in it!)

  • Jay

QOTD 2: Who i’d share a bottle with? The prophet Elijah and the prophet Daniel.

  • 🙂

  • FullOnNelson

A wonderfully raw and honest episode that happened to include great wine!

QOTD1: I have no idea. The only umbrella that comes to mind after the ones already mentioned is the red traveler’s insurance umbrella.

QOTD2: I would have a nebbiolo with Tof from the series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not the recent movie, but from the original animation. She’s the blind earthbender.

Holy crap Batman……after reading that, I think I have to go change my underwear……

And I not sure for which end………
