QOTD! JOHN STEED (played by Patrick Macnee)! the Avengers 1960’s TV show. He always carried an umbrella!

  • Anonymous

QOTD1: I suppose the penguin would work
QOTD2: Bond… James Bond. I know, I know… He drinks the clear liquids but a man that sophisticated must partake of vino once in a while and if this stuff is even half as good as Gary says it is… J.B. would be all over that. Although he would probably have a sip with me and take the bottle off to some remote location with a sweet honey to do whatever it is that spies do. Damn.. That was a good bottle of wine too and I only got one sip. Ok I think I’m getting to into this. James Bond or Darth Vader…

  • Ok..you official rock with that answer. 🙂

  • Hmmm Tof? Yeah I can see it but what about Zuko’s uncle? I can’t remember his name. Wine and a nice cup of tea. 🙂

  • Dang blondes…. 😛

  • Didn’t see you in the last comment section. Getting me all worried like that. 😀

  • FullOnNelson

Good point. I guess I’m in a party mood since it’s Friday night (look I’m at home on the computer) so Toh is more my style. Zuko’s Uncle Iroh would be great company whether it’s tea or wine. Speaking of tea, I am totally in love with Taiwanese oolong, anyone else?

QOTD2! Sir Gary Vaynerchuk! Nuph said!!!!!!!!!

  • QOTD #1: John Steed (Patrick Macnee) of The Avengers first and foremost.
QOTD #2: Popeye would be a whole lot of fun to enjoy a glass

Good show and will try one of these.

    Cin Cin!

  • Alexandre-CF

That as damn good. 96 pts .
    you r just on fire.

QOTD 1 : i can only think in the Umbrella Corp. from resident evil.

QOTD 2 : I would share with an Predator after a long day of Alien hunt. LOL just don’t know why

Nebbiolo has been my favorite grape for some time. On the one hand I’m glad you’ve officially signed yourself onto the nebbiolo camp, but on the other hand I’m afraid now everyone’s going to go after the neb and bring prices up. It’s like that situation when you’ve been fan of an under-the-radars band and then everyone discovers it.

    QOTD: Willy Wonka, perhaps?

  • passion4wine

Quote: The American people never carry an umbrella. They prepare to walk in eternal sunshine.

I would drink some Barbaresco with James T. Kirk, cus he’s so dam sexy…

Also, the red umbrella is a symbol for sex workers rights around the world.

  • The “Other” QOTD: either the girl on the salt shaker or the Singin’ In The Rain guy (Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire?)

  • QOTD: Hands down Neal Caffrey

  • QOTD(‘s) – I would have to agree on John Steed from the Avengers
As far as fictional character, it would go with the cat burgler John Robie in “To Catch a Thief” and relax while overlooking the French Riviera.

Great show and I will be seeking out a Nebbiolo tomorrow. Enjoy the weekend.

  • QOTD: Another vote for John Steed though perhaps he is too old school.
QOTD2: My fictional character would have to be Sir Vaynerchuk. Admittedly he’s not much fun but it sounds like he has access to some good juice!

Have to say I am a fan of Barbaresco and have been for a while. I applaud the stand!!

  • I agree Steed needs to be in the running!

  • Doh! Should have read the other comments first. Now my Sir Vaynerchuk is an also ran :(.

  • Randall

Although I’m DONE w/ blondes, and my life’s motto is still ‘Pinay Or Die’, she is just Too Hot in that role… just sayin’… 😛

  • Randall

…she does tend to “run off at the mouth”…

  • Randall

    Yeah, I doubt that it’s gonna last…

  • Randall

You want her to tie you up w/ the ‘rope of truth’ and make you drink da vino??
    ;}

Somehow I feel a strong urge to get me some Barbaresco…

QOTD1: The last guy said it but for me there’s only one answer: Rihanna

QOTD2: I’m not the biggest Entourage fan by any means but Johnny Drama just seems to be a great guy to share a bottle with.

Thanks for the emphasis on Nebbiolo. I’ve always considered it a great varietal, but haven’t had a lot of it.

I’ve always thought of Sangiovese Grosso and Nebbiolo as the “Coke and Pepsi” of the Italian red wine world.

Since I like coke, Sangiovese Grosso won out, but I’ve always respected the Nebbiolo varietal also. Something for further investigation.

Thanks Gary for a fine show.

QOTD1: Gene Kelly, Morton Salt Girl and John Steed come to mind.

QOTD2: Maya, Virginia Madsen from the movie “Sideways”, especially when she talked about the wine being alive. Wow!

  • Allan

    Gotta love the Nebbiolo grape!

The Rabaja vineyard brings serious thunder for me too.

    Qotd1: Mary Poppins.
Qotd2: The girl from the ZZ Top song “Legs”.

Cheers, and have a great weekend ya’ll ;0)

  • Love Barbaresco (Nebbiolo in general)- current Barbaresco line up in the cellar:

2000 Pio Cesare “Il Bricco” Barbaresco
    2005 Marchesi di Barolo Barbaresco
    2005 Cigliuti Serraboella Barbaresco
    2005 Abrigo Barbaresco Vigna Montersino
2005 Giribaldi Barbaresco (drinking while watching the show coincidentally)

I always highly recommend this varietal to all my friends and often serve it when they are over.

  • Great varietal. Produttori is classic producer. One thing perhaps you could have mentioned is that these wines aren’t designed to be drunk young. The 2005 you drank should really be laid down for at least 3-7 more years, and up to 20. The 2005 are relatively approachable. But the 04’s and especially 06’s are going to need even more time.

  • waynooo daaa wino

Yeah, Yeaah, Yeeaah, Yeeeaaah, Yeeaaahhh……. ;o)

    QOTD: Sherlock Holmes.

  • Anonymous

I gotta take Jake Barnes over Lady Brett Ashley to share a bottle with. Besides, she’s off with some bullfighter. Second your advice to sniff some flowers. The classic floral scent of Nebbiolo is…violets.

  • This QOTD got me thinking throughout the night so I have some more.

QOTD 1a: Jiminy Cricket and Gene Kelly in Singin’ int he Rain
QOTD 2a: Dirk Pitt (main adventuresome character in Clive Cussler books) and James Bond

Hey Gary, it’s so good to be back in the US. I was on a cruise with my family and just got back to Florida heading home to NC. I only had time to watch this episode, but I will catch up on 901, 902, and 903 when I get back. This show absolutely rocked! I love Brunello so much, but I can feel my palate leaning toward Barbaresco and Barolo as well. I agree that these will be some of the best values in the world in the coming years. By the way, I wanted to say that while on my very first cruise I discovered that they serve the absolute worst wines available and they limit what you can take onboard. They even confiscated the two bottles I was allowed because I put them in the checked luggage and not my carryon. Shame on you Carnival! QOTD1: the Morton salt girl QOTD2: the Dos Equis most interesting man in the world

  • I would certainly share my first bottle of 2004 Abrigo Barbaresco Vigna Montersino with Mary Poppins!

  • Anonymous

Got to be Jessica Rabbit – cartoon and wrong and all that, but has to be done!…

  • Anonymous

It is great to see you so excited by wines. Maybe Charlie’s Angels would like to share a bottle or two of Barbaresco with me (why just have one fictional character when you can have 3?).

  • John__J

So Gary finally came out of the Nebbiolo closet, I’d suspected he might. Great episode, nebbiolo definitely needs more attention. I wouldn’t mind a whole week’s worth of nebbiolo shows. It would be nice to see nebbiolo make some appearances from Ghemme, Gattinara, Roero, Valtellina, and Sforsat de Valtellina.

    qotd1: Penguin
qotd: that would require some thought, I know I’d get a kick outta havin a glass with SIR Gary Vaynerchuk if I acted real uncivilized.

  • Anonymous

We certainly have to consider “The Penguin” !

  • Redheads total beat blondes in the trouble department. Trust me 😉
