  • I got a big trunk and some duck tape. DISQUS doesn’t stand a chance with me. 😉

and….Emma Peel can share my bottle

  • Randall

    Hey, I belive you…

  • QOTD1: Salt Girl
    QOTD2: Yoda

Man, that was one of the best episodes ever. Maybe because I also am a Nebbiolo fan. But, nevertheless, a great show.

QOTD2. Nebbiolo is to good not to share with a human being.

  • Anonymous

HA HA! so funny that you were asking Mott. Mott gave you the green light to go for it to tell everyone and declare that you are a Nebbiolo fan. That Really shows your great relationships.
QOTD#1: John Steed on The Avengers TV show.
QOTD#2: I think Sir Gary will do, even him should like this wine. Just want to see the reaction on his face.

QOTD1: I think probably Rihanna is the most branded umbrella persona in today’s time.

QOTD2: I’d share a bottle with Barney Stinson from “How I Met Your Mother” because he’s legen-wait for it-dary!

  • Anonymous

QOTD1: Did Gene Kelly Sing in the Rain with or without an umbrella?
QOTD2: Frasier but not Kelsey Grammer because Frasier seems like he would appreciate fine wine but I think Kelsey Grammer should be on the wagon.

I’m taking a 6 week wine class and this coming Wednesday we will cover Piedmont. Yea! I may have a Nebbiolo or even better maybe a Barbaresco on Wednesday!

  • Since I promised thursday to drink nebbiolo wines this weekend I’m just trying a Barbaresco, Brunito 2007, and It smells nice, trying to emulate de DdP I had last night with the beef tenderloin parsley, onion and truffle. Not that nice but nice.
Nice fresh taste with plum and blackberry with hints of violets and herbs. Back end is dry, with woody high notes and rose petals. Dry medium long finish.
    Tommorow I try another one.
    SQOTD Gene Kelly?
    QOTD: Barbarella of course, duh!

  • I tried the Langhe Nebbiolo that Produttori Barbaresco puts out and found it unsubstantial the point of wateriness. It was a big disappointment as it was recommended to me with high marks for its price range. Would love to get my hands on their barbaresco and give it a try.

As I commented after yesterday’s episode, a 2000 Michele Chiarlo Barbaresco ripped my face off. I’m willing to say that I like Barbaresco better than Barolo. Some Australian Shirazes that are coming out now are starting to impress me at this level, but there’s still no comparison. The finesse, the seamless, polished sensation offered by some Barbarescos, to me is unmatched. QOTD: Concepción just mentioned Harry Potter. I hate Harry Potter. I would love to drink this with Popeye the Sailorman

  • Randall

That scene with Maya WAS incredible! What a dork he was…

  • Great episode, I am with you these are the finest wines in the world!

QOTD: Jack Aubrey, and Stephen Maturin

  • Anonymous

Gary, you mentioned the wines were first fermented in their skins… what’s the purpose? why don’t we hear more about it?

QOTD 2: Stewie from Family Guy or Indiana Jones. Completely different, I know.

Any character Sophia Loren played in the 50’s or 60’s. You have sold me well.Have bought 3 new bottles to me of nebbiolo based wines this week alone. I had take them out of play because the cost kept going up but with the more reasonably priced ones the better. Time to hit Italian whites again. It has been a while. And for dominus would go with Emma Peel before Steed as my wife looked exactly like her when she was younger.

Umbrella question– Fred Astaire-singin in the rain
Fictional character– The guy in sideways.
Funny thing– I’ve only had a few nebbiola’s in my 30 years wine drinking/collecting and recently put it on my “gott get some ” list. Then Gary says its the next up-and commer. I thinkl you’re right on the money. 1 I tried 1998 Ranato Ratti Barolo– very nice.

  • TommyB

I gotta post a comment with a question like that!
QOTD: Cat woman – I could think of something to do after we finished the bottle as well!

  • TommyB

Barbaresco wines can get a little risky – I’ve had a 23 dollar one which was stunning, and a 120 dollar one which was a serious disappointment. Caution advised!

  • QOTD: Grushenka (Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov)
Drinking Francesco Rinaldi & Figli 2005 (Nebbiolo d’Alba) as we speak. Can you say OLD WORLD?

  • Anonymous

successful ploy to get lurkers out Gary, its only been a hundred something episodes since I commented.

QOTD- The brothers from the Boondock saints, they look like fun drunks.

P.S. you should do an episode on wine tasting parties, especially for cheap, I’m broke.

Forgot all the QOTD. Never, had a Nebbiolo that I can remember. Have one in my cellar- 2000 Massolino, but will have to try one.

QOTD2: Yoda, and it’s not even close. Drinking wine with him, great it would be.

    QOTD: Xena, The Warrior Princess.

  • What’s the name of that restaurant Gary mentioned at the end? That dish sounds great and I might try and make it there next I get up to NYC.

  • NY Pete

when is that slacker KAHUNA going to update the spreadsheet?

Thanks for a great show, and for bringin’ on new grapes and different wines.

I myself like nebbiolo, and Langhe/Barolo. But i’ve never been into barbaresco until now.

So you made me curious, and now im hunting down baberesco and tasting it, thanks !

Damn…I’m so happy I purchased a bottle of the 2005 Produttori Barbaresco Rabaja Riserva last week before it SOLD OUT! Also, fictional character that I would want to share that wine with…Atticus Finch from Harper Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird”.

  • Anonymous

    QOTD1 (umbrella) No idea
QOTD: I’m going to have to go Darth Vader, only because Star Wars was on tv earlier tonight & I’m curious as to how he could be so stuck up as to try to battle his own son rather than try to understand where Luke is coming from (I do realize his past, but still, times change)

  • I would buy two bottles of Nebbiolo. Drink one to myself and let Link from The Legend of Zelda drink the other. Then we would travel to Hyrule Castle on Epona and tell the people of Hyrule how delicious the wine was. Im excited to buy a bottle soon. Wheres the best place to buy a bottle for a member of the ckc?

  • I gotta take Jake Barnes over Lady Brett Ashley to share a bottle with. Besides, she’s off with some bullfighter. Second your advice to sniff some flowers. The classic floral scent of Nebbiolo is…violets.

    QOTD….Giuseppe from Pinocchio of course…

….I Would have said Vito “Don”Corleone if you had asked about Nero d’Avola…

  • After all these episodes, This one above all makes me want to have “smell-o-Vision” on them.

QOTD1: over-branded umbrella characters, apart from Mary Poppins and The Penguin of course… probably the Morton Salt logo, maybe.

QOTD2: I would love to share a bottle of Nebbiolo with Lisbeth Salander, just for the fun of it.

    Good episode.

  • Ok, I’ll admit: this question got me to comment.

I’d share a bottle with Lex Luthor. He’d appreciate it, and it’d be fun to hear what a twisted genius had to say over a bottle of wine.

  • waynooo daaa wino

really enjoyed the back to back nebbiolo episodes. I personally feel nebbiolo is the greatest grape varietal period. hahaha. was very lucky to enjoy an 82 monfortino last week which could possibly have been the wine of my life… (at least top 5)

  • Oakmon’s BF

    I?m more partial to Magritte.

    Any opinion Randall?

  • Oakmon’s BF

    Hello!?
The Morton Salt girl is in reference to umbrella person, not wine drinking character.
