lines of the day – ‘sniffy sniff some flowers…they show up in a lot of wines’ and ‘I haven’t really put my balls on the line for a varietal in the 5 years I’ve been doing the show’

Classic episode, GV in top form and loving the wines

  • I’m gettin’ the shakes again….where are this week’s shows?

  • NY Pete

looks like you’ll be shakin’ all week … GV is on vacation.

  • RobinC

There’s something I don’t know about Discus. I always have trouble getting the cursor to appear under Add New Comment.

QOTD: I would drink Barbaresco from wooden kegs with Jack Sparrow, Davey Jones, and cohorts on the deck of their pirate ship. We would drink out of heavy silver cups; sing drinking songs, like Sixteen men on a dead man’s chest; play drinking games; whatever those would look like; and regale each other with tales of the sea well into the night.

Coming in late, sorry, been very busy with hospital and police department. Good episode, agree with you that the Nebbiolo’s are good value and good wine.

QOTD #1 Darth Vadar or one of the Star Wars characters.

QOTD #2 Gandalf if I wanted to be real philosophical – Merry or Pipin if I wanted a good time

Robin, We ‘re AAAALLLL Strugglin’ wit DISQUS……

  • Randall

    Now I KNOW you’re a wino!! 😉
We already had this discussion a while back. Memba? “Smoky, fruity goodness in the Pinotages that I’ve tried” I said. And you were all “Hit me wit somodat!”
So I would say… Revisit the Pinotage. And hopefully this time you won’t get a flabby one! Some DO indeed suck…
p.s. Try a Golden Kaan. It’s $20ish and “Yes.. it’s real and it’s Fantastic!!” (ala Seinfeld)

  • waynooo daaa wino

Awesome show Gary. Been on vacation the past week and have been going through WLTV withdrawal! Going to have to get off my bum and start grabbing a few of these great Nebbiolos!

QOTD: I’m a big fan of English-style mysteries, so I’d have a round table dinner with Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie’s Belgian detective Poirot, and Inspector Morse.

  • How about a “CRUSH IT!” t-shirt? If I had one I’d wear it to the gym. If I had two, I’d wear one every day (need two in order not to stink to bad!) I just finished your book and I’m trying to figure out how to apply the same principles to a non-profit charity organization.

CRUSHING IT in the California Wine Countries!

  • I feel like I will never be able to explore wine to any meaningful level, and that makes me sad. Maybe in six months I might finally get around to trying Nebbiolo.

QOTD Alf immediately popped into my head somehow.

Gary, when are you going to do the mead show?

  • passion4wine

    that’s hilarious

  • Since my favourite part of the wine world had a terrible 2008 (Nothern Rhone) I go for the safe bet. Bordeuax or Napa Cab. My favourite among Bordeaux is Chateau Pichon-Loungeville Comtesse de Lalande. The 2008 is just out for sale at 75 bones a bottle and is a good vintage. The wine could easliy store for 20 years in a good cellar. But there are so many wines to choose from.

  • Oakmon’s BF

I once had dinner with a woman who thought she was Trillian.

  • Oakmon’s BF

Nice choice. My avatar is meant to be an image of him. No images of him date back to his time, so who knows what he looked like. Like Homer some question his existence, but I wouldn?t classify him as fictional.

  • Oakmon’s BF

Lao Tzu wasn?t a warrior. Perhaps you?re thinking of Sun Tzu.

  • Oakmon’s BF

I just had a really weird mental image of Darth Vader dancing with an umbrella while singing ?Singing in the Rain.?

  • Convivio.

  • Wow. What a powerful ep. I have enjoyed Nebbiolo-based wines in the past, but I did not know of this potential. Love the “bite of moose” comment. Truly hilarious.

QOTD1: Gene Kelly for me, is timeless.
    QOTD2: 007, Jean-Luc Picard, or Leto I.

  • RobinC

    Good idea. I’ll try it.

  • RobinC

Thanks. I though it was evocative of a simpler place and time.

  • MelbaLI=Turnip… Oh what you must think of me. You are correct sir. Philosopher vs The Great war tactican. Yeah…nice job Melba

    😛

  • RobinC

I thought you had to be a computer person to undertand Disqus.

  • waynooo daaa wino

It surely doesn’t hurt (to be a computer person), which i definitely
    ain’t….. :o)

  • ZacSeattle

QOTD: Samwise Gamgee…I like the thought of having some wine with someone who keeps pans, bacon, and sausage on their person. Plus I always trust a fat cook.

  • I want to see more Sir Gary V please..

That’s one of the strangest replies I have received. Interesting, but strange.

It brings up the possibility of he and Boba Fett breaking into a chorus of “Happy Days Are Here Again.”

  • Anonymous

Slacker, in case you haven’t noticed, it’s THURSDAY already 😉

  • Oakmon’s BF

There were two questions of the day and you gave two answers. The first question was to name an umbrella character. Many people thought of Gene Kelly doing ?Singing in the Rain.? You thought of Darth Vader. This is what triggered my mental image. 🙂

What a great episode Gary. First one I’ve watch in a while and I’m inspired!

    QOTD1: Rihanna.
QOTD2: Professor Snape. Would be fun to get drunk off some good Piedmontese wine with him.

  • Arschmode

Mr.Steed from the Advengers! Always a classy umbrella!
We need to know your fav French Malbec!

    Jeff & Allison

  • 750ml

?OTD 1 – You definitely captured the Big 3. I just love the French word for umbrella – parapluie…

    ?OTD 2 – Michael Corleone

  • Randall

That’s ALL that triggered that mental image??
    ;}

  • Don’t know if someone put you on to who P. Diddy’s boy was, but his name is Farnsworth Bentley 🙂 LOL…LMAO…LOL. I literally laughed out loud. You recently followed me on Twitter. I was asking about your new book. Thank you for following back. You are the reason I’m on twitter and you were the FIRST person I added. I appreciate you. You’re an inspiration.
