  • Its just may lack of skill pronouncing things and lack of effort to fix it 🙁

  • thnx Rob and make sure u find a Savennieres and try it!

I know nothing about Loire Valley. I am interested in learning more, since the wine quality is fresh. The new tighter format is short and sweet. I don’t see any guest’s being able to fit in your new tighter fit. I think it’s good every so often. If your trying to remain consistent with the timing of your shows, the tighter format isn’t the way to go, though it’s fine time to time. Hi, Gary V “I hope you family is well.” I’m glad I was able to mean the world to you this evening, by my comment.

  • Thnx Dan S!

  • Thank u Armond!

I’m brand new to WLTV, so I’ve only seen a handful of the back catalogue, but I gotta say I love the experimental format, Gary!

I know this frees up your time to work on other projects as well (which I support) and I think the combination of these more focused videos and the fruits of whatever other long-term labors you have cooking are definitely going to benefit everyone in the long run.

My only hope thought is that you don’t abandon the longer form altogether. Maybe do the 5 min thing regularly and once a month have a blowout show with multiple wines, guests, etc.

Keep up the great work, man!

Big G, Love the wine, but don’t care for the shorter one wine format. I enjoy the fact we with more wines we have a better chance of expanding our palate. If the wine you have is a bomb it’ll feel like we show was less than it can be. Just my 2 cents.

  • 🙂

  • Eric means a lot man!

QOTD 1: I have very limited knowledge on all French Regions
QOTD 2: I prefer to mix it up as you do. Short ones, guests, blind, food pairings I think you do a great job of mixing it up.

Still waiting for the Baja Cali tasting……ie LA Cetto, Adobe, Etc.

  • awesome!

  • thank u my friend 🙂

  • Randall

Love what you do, Gary… whether it’s a quick ep or a rambling one. Thunder is thunder…

  • I like the snackable format but it doesn’t seem fair to call it “The Thunder Show” which typically features at least 3 wines and sometimes a guest and is usually 15-35 minutes. This is more like… Thundersnack. That sounds like Thundercats!

Gregory “The Frozen Food Master” Ng has his show Freezerburns that follows the same format over and over, but he also has other types of shows with different themes like 1 Word Review and his short lived show Fryerburns where he’d deep fry frozen food. (It wasn’t unpopular, but people were worried about his health.) Anyway, it set peoples’ expectations before the show even starts

Keep crushing it. I cannot wait for Thursday on Sirius.

QOTD: I know that Loire is often next to Alsace in the wine store, but they’re about 800km apart.

I definitely like the new format. I hate to say this but I stopped watching because each episode was getting so long that I just couldn’t put aside the time. This is easy and I can watch it anytime. Plus I love these geeky episodes.

Any chance you can do a wine with smoked ribs and pulled pork recommendation? Maybe in time for the holiday weekend. I’m wondering what kind of wine would even work!

  • Anonymous

    ok, thanks for the answer.
anyway, this is not a tv show, you put the link and everything. I just have to click, I don’t really need to hear you say the name. 😉

  • Anonymous

Love it. Never thought less would be more of you, but you figured it out.

  • Samer thnx for the input, your exact “profile” of person is who i am wondering if this will work for!

  • Thnx GregB good call!

Gary, innovation is key, keep it going, keep learning, keep optimizing, never rest.

  • jalapenonate

I definitely liked the focus and information included with this type of format, but it would be difficult because if you wanted to focus on a specific region, it would be nice to have more than one example. If the wine ended up really sucking, I feel like to some extent I would miss out because I wouldn’t be able to hear about some of the positive tasting notes that are traditional of those specific wines that might make me and perhaps some other people want to go and try that particular varietal/region/style/etc

  • Thnx Core!

Hi Gary. Greetings to Jersey from the Bronx (although I live in TX now). Was just told about your show from a wine-loving friend and am just learning about wines myself. Enjoy the short format and if you could vary it between 5-10 minutes I think that would be great. Looking forward to more eps.

  • Grtj02

Short and SWEET I like this format. Just the facts man, just the facts.

  • Thnx TY!

  • Randall

A mere thunder clap is enough, sometimes!
    🙂

  • means a lot that you stopped by and gave me ur 2 cents! THANK U!

  • 🙂

  • I sooooooooooo agree!

Gutsy of you to feature Savennieres truly a wine geek’s wine. I love the stuff, love it more 10+years down the line. The Loire in general is a gem, from the honesty of muscadet to the hidden finesse of sancerre rouge and all wines between. Have been there many times and the local wine/food pairings, with alsace, are as good as it gets, imo. Like the new format very well. Grazie.

  • Thnx bro! prreciat it!

  • Joanne

I find you very entertaining and I think the shorter version losses some of that. But it was very informative.

QOTD: Haven’t had a whole lot of experience in the Loire Valley. I’ve tasted some Chinons and liked them a good deal and I’ve had a few Muscadets but other than that, it’s pretty much unexplored territory. I like the short shows because you tend to stay on topic. The shows where you give us 1-3 wines are always my favorite and obviously I like it when you bring under-the-radar regions onto the show because I really like expanding my palate and learning about new things.

  • Some visuals to better tie in the history/regional discussion would be great for context. I really dig the bite sized format, it’s more easily integrated into a busy work day.

For my personal taste, perhaps a bit less of the up front discussion on the history and to allow you to add a second wine from the vineyard or region of a point of comparison….but that may be a lot in 5 min.

Great quick show. I like the format but not as a regular thing. The wine sounds FANTASTIC!

  • I’m not sure about the short format. I kind of like the Gary V. fluff. I do like that you gave more info about the producer and wine, though.

How often are you make shows if you go to this shorter format? More often, less often, same? I’d say 5-8 minutes of Gary V every other day would be great! 😉

  • Hey Gary

QOTD: …know a bit about the Loire and like a lot of what I know.

QOTD2: Maybe 5 minutes is a bit brief. The usual format of comparing three wines gives a bit mt scope. I do like it brief, I do like the knoweldge and I can find guests annoying.

    Cheers
    Andrew

I like red wines, and sometimes I like whites. Similarly, sometimes I love the more robust (even rambling… to a long, slow and enjoayble finish) Thunder Shows, full of fun metaphors and chewy to the end, while there is also nothing wrong with a lighter, shorter WLTV episode to keep things fresh and crisp. There is always room for both, my friend.

  • Thunderclap! That’s WAY better than Thundersnack!

  • Kier

nice show. i think the amount of information you delivered was outstanding. for me, the length of the show is good, perhaps ideal for tasting just one bottle, but i think a slightly longer show with 2 bottles may give a better representation of the information that you provide. cheers.

  • Randall

Right on, Mike. Could you give me your site’s addy again? I love what you do, as well…

  • Anonymous

Love the format. Maybe 2 of these per week would be great.

Using Savennieres as an example, besides the notes on the wine you taste, I would love to hear what are some of the dull characteristics about this region and what are some of the spectacular characteristics you may come across. Would love to hear about how Savennieres differs from other Chenin Blanc regions in Loire. How is Loire Chenin Blanc different from other parts of the world.

Its nice to learn about the producer, but I’d be far more interested in diving into the region and learning about what its all about, history and how it differs especially from other areas growing the same varietal. Great show!

QOTD: Fell in love with Loire Cab Franc a year ago after just simply not getting it back when I first tried 4 years ago. Maybe even more in love now with Chenin Blanc from Loire. Dom. Jo Pithon 2006 Anjou with Indian spice flavors sort of was the game changer for me. Just waaaay more interesting than other whites I come across. Loved hearing Gary V explain that Grand Cru type vineyards were producing Chenin in Loire for $20-30/bottle. Is it really true that in 1920-1930 Chinon rouge was more sought after that 1st class Bordeux by the French?!?

  • Evan S

The shorter version is OK, but one of the things I always liked about your show is that it’s a web show that’s not afraid to take on the longer format. I prefer the banter and more free-flow style of the longer version to this condensed one.

  • I like it – 5 minutes is long for me, but the topic and your energy kept me watching. I expanded the comments mid-video and it restarted, then I had problems with the sound. not sure on the cause of that – could have been my system – but FYI. Looking forward to some shows on reds!

  • pbarr

Gary, I always find myself saying that I love most of the formats you try. I like the way you change it up. That being said, the five minute format is OK but I like the 3 wine, 15 minute format better.

QOTD: I don’t know much about the Loire Valley. It’s the one region of France I’m the least familiar with.

  • Anonymous

Haven’t finished this yet, but I gotta say, I think 6 minutes is too tight. It’s getting away from who you are and what got you here. I could see only doing two wines and making it 12 minutes or so. Realistically, though, in terms of your time, the difference between filming 6 minute shows and 20 minute shows is an hour per week… in other words, it’s negligible.

  • Anonymous

If I was into wine I would like the 5 minute show a lot better. As it stands, I have no idea what you are talking about lol.

  • understood, thnx for the feedback 🙂 means a lot!

  • Tnx Pbarr!

  • coming soon!
