YES!…..YES!……YES! (pounding table between yes’s, a la Meg Ryan)

QOTD: I agree with what Geoalb said about the format; good from time to time, but not always. I love to learn new stuff, for sure, but I like to have fun with wine, too. One of the great things about your show is that you are always mixing it up. I never know what to expect. So I always tune in. Kind of like wine, actually.

  • Randall

    Imagine that…
    😉

  • I’m over at belchingmonkey.com. Thanks Randall.

  • Love the short format, more indept information. This length is better for my busy life. I was having problem keeping up lately

  • Randall

    No… Thank You, sir…
    *hurriedly adds to faves*

  • Commenting as I’m watching…I think five minutes is too short. Though the show is about “wine” it is really about you. The five minutes highlights too much of the wine and not enough of you. 20 minutes probably does too much of you and not enough of the wine. I’d probably like 2 wines at 11-14 minutes. That would give a good balance.

I liked the show and the fact that is was a lot of info but the show was lacking one very important thing, you awesome personality. I felt the shorter format had you rushing through the information. I’ve gotten into wines the last couple of years and LOVE your show because you are real and you make me laugh while I am learning. This format would be good from time to time but not as a staple.

QOTD: Nothing, sorry but trying to learn.

New format is good, but have to mix it in with your longer shows. Do both!

  • Alexander Levitan

I like the briefer and more informative version. Perhaps a compromise might be to have brief shows certain days of the week and multiple wine tasting days on others.
Optional videos of the vinyards and cellars as well as of the indiviual oenologists would be welcome as well. Maps would help define the vinyard locations for those of us interested in travel.
Keep up the good work. Start teaching short courses at various universities.

Appreciate the quick reply, well done… truth be told, I don’t even drink, I just think a WLTV works as a slightly longer format, whereas the business stuff on your personal sight can work as quick 4 minutes takes on a specific topic (not that we’d mind longer stuff there either). Keep up the great work

  • Felt like you were hurrying through the show. One of the best things about WLTV is that it doesn’t have the ADHD vibe that so many web creations use.

I know you have a lot going on and may not want to dedicate 30 minutes to this show, but as audience members, we’d appreciate it.

I like the tighter format but would rather have at least ten minutes with at least three wines. Five minutes isn’t enough of a Vaynerchuk fix to get me through the day.

  • I’ve been watching for 3 years, and this is a very welcome evolution of the format. Less is more. Unfortunately I can’t fit in the full length ones every day, as much as I’d love to, so this is perfect.

If you did this length regularly along with one a week (perhaps longer than your usual), e.g. with a guest/special food tasting episode/group test, it’d be great.

  • TheGreatWazu

The only difference is that its about one wine. Same Gary, same descriptions. When yer pinched for time do short shows. When yer not do longer ones. I wouldn’t stick to this format as the norm, just as I wouldn’t do half hour episodes as a norm either. Great little show as usual man.

    Gary,
I love the Loire, the Chenin is to die for, dry or dessert.
I don’t care for the green bits that are predominate in the Loire Cab Franc. The muscadet is excellent with shellfish, especially mussels.
    Loire whites ROCK!!

I haven’t watched your show before. I liked the format. It’s quick and easy. I have time for this type episode. I noticed some of your fans below saying they like the 20 minute segments. That would be too long for me. Thanks for asking.

  • Randall

Looks like you have a new “sirius” audience, G…

  • Hey Gary

No worries. I think WLTV has been really on track for the last 20 or so episodes. Even the guests (which I often find offensive if they are trying to obviously to sell something or if they have no passion for WLTV) have been really spot on. Keep things as they are and having a bit of variety in the format seems to be the key to success. I’ve been watching WLTV since about episode 60 and one thing that I really respect is that the show is still very true to its roots and hasn’t gone overly commercial; the format of a bloke talking honestly (and I stress the honestly) really works. The only thing we need now is a return of the ?laid-back-couch?.

Cheers and thanks for all your efforts
    Andrew

First time comment from a CKC… (College Kid Crew). I turned 21 this summer and have been watching as many episodes as I can. Thank you so much Gary for making wine fun and accessible.

As far as the format, me and my fellow CKC’s agree that you should make it a little longer. We look forward to watching them everyday and 5 minutes, although extremely informative, is just a little too short. Thanks Gary!

  • On reflection, maybe ~ 7 minutes would be spot on. More chat needed 🙂

sat in my car in the driveway (the only place I have Sirius) with a nice glass of Pinot and listened .I loved it By the way I’m usually a lurker

  • Dusanmal

Depending on what you mean by 5 min show… I’d say go for 4 min per wine + 2 min opening/closing which is indeed about 6 min as episode 910 is for just one wine. The most interesting shows are comparisons… 3 wines per show is the most interesting format for me (not too many, not just two…). That would end up at about 14 min – again, not too much, not to little…

  • In my humble opinion, this new format is a must. Although I toally think i get why you have decided to it and i could be very wrong, but mobile plat comes to top of mind 🙂 The huge upside is you will continue to do what you do best and that is be a valid authoritative source for the wine world on the web. The challenge (which is a good thing) is not having the comparatives which does make it more difficult to sell and/or market the product. But honestly…now that I think about it, it’s a moot point, because in the end, you have never been about that anyway as the key component to people connecting with you. I think it’s a necessary must and something that will add even more value to a human being that speaks from the heart, always. just my 2 cents. and thanks for the MR tip. the app is doing very well. Great stuff man. Hope to catchup one of these days

Gary! Going to best honest i like the older shows…i would love to see three wines five min each and in depth. I like collecting a list of wines from the shows during the week and going out to buy 3-5 bottles that i think i might like for thurs fri sat night. I love your show regardless but i like the old school 30 min show days!!!!! Holla!

How can you talk about your Jets in five minutes? I doubt that the aspects that I love about WLTV will shine through in this format. Could Mott ever turn the camera to the #80 jersey? If this was a once a week thing I would still watch it but would hate to see this become the new go to format for WLTV.

Don’t let the cops catch you, thats an open container if the keys are in the ignition (which I assume they are if your listening to radio).

  • Kurtswa

I like this format GV. Good to mix things up a bit. What I like about this format is the focus on 1 wine/region. Felt the blind tasting shows got away from the knowledge of the wine/region as a whole (being that info wasn’t revealed until the very end).

QOTD- have not had many Loire Valley wines but need to start soon : )

  • Randall

    Maybe not in Canada, cr5…

  • Christian Logay

BAM! info on wine choice, then BAM! the “sniffy-sniff”, “swirl” and critique. I’ve always been a fan of the “Keep it simple” format and you nail it here. Great job!

    Gary,

Love all the content you gibe us. As far as feed back, if I am being honest….this is to short for me. I get why you need to cut it down, your a busy dude. I think as you have said in the past though, never forget what got you there and dont sell it short. Thanks so much for the shows at any length.

  • i like your fluff gary, thats why I watch.

  • In this shorter format you seemed rushed and somewhat constricted by the time. I prefer the longer shows, they allow you to be an entertainer and that is one thing that separates you from many web shows. Plus I also like the throwdown aspects of having two or three wines on the show as it is somewhat of a competition.

  • Anonymous

Very tight show. I LOVED the info and think you should try and keep it up as best you can.

SQOTD: “new” format was a little brief for me. The wine info, your shoot from the hip style and your pallet is what attracts me; the fluff is what makes me stay.

QOTD: Not much, only what I have picked up from the show and articles I have read or winemakers that have stopped by the winery and dropped knowledge upon my head.

  • Anonymous

I bet he does, unless he changes the score 100 times.

  • Not a bad format. I’ve never been to the Loire Valley. So I’d have to s, wine.

  • Anonymous

Gary, the new format is great. These shorter condensed format segments would be really useful for people who need a quick burst of info on a wine via search on your site (or smart phone app) and not have to wade through one of the longer format segments. Hopefully you will still do some of the longer formats to though. I’d hate to see all of your future segments this fast and condensed. Great work. I like it.

  • I like your fluff Gary, thats a big part of why I watch. This format however will be good for indexing your video’s. Depends what your master plan is. Good Luck.

true, never even looked at his handel, good call.
