Not too sure about the five minute format…seems a bit too short

The lurkers are coming out of the closet, all he has to do is expand his medium(s)!

  • Matteo

I like the information you delivered here and often feel that the show gets too heavy on the opinion side. That said I’ve watched every show for the last 2 years, so I guess it must have been pretty good stuff. Also, you are pretty much the only show I watch these days period. I say more info and more wines and if you decide to go down to 2 minutes, I ‘ll still watch that too. Cheers!

QOTD: Not as much as I would like, but shows like this help!
QOTD2: As I’ve said before when you’ve asked this, keep mixing it up. Sometimes nerdy is good, sometimes quick basic info, sometimes fluff, guests, and, well, even sometimes American football hyperbole is entertaining! ;D

Agreed, if your feeling the epics roll with it. If your in a hurry try and bang out a few solid 5-7 minute shows. Short shows are way better than no shows at all.

  • Randall

That’s about the gist of it!!
    🙂

(insert brief sexual endurance joke here)

  • Randall

    p.s. Go Niners!!

    Well said my friend.

You did a great job, no surprise, and nailed it from sniffy sniff, on out. I was gonna rag on the video sub-caption (‘nerdy’) but actually, it’s kinda right. It’s exactly right! It is a style of wine which may request that you are prepared to look into it for what is there. It won’t come out and beat you w/ gobs of fruit, or oak, or alc. Lean. Yes, acids, and light amount of fruits on generous amounts of mineral. That’s good, and different, for a change, which neds to be had sometimes. Great for foods of pure focused flavor -Loire Chevres, mussels w/ fresh herb (chive) in buerre blanc, light white fish w/ capers, lemon& butter. And non-goopy fruits like pear, apple, peach.
The last Savenniere I’d had was prob. in Feb., at Jacques and Lysielle Cariot’s outstanding Bleu Provence, of Naples, Fl. http://www.bleuprovencenaples.com/, where an older industry mentor from days gone by selected Nicolas Joly’s Savennieres-Coule-de- Serrant, 1998. That was a very special experience, for which I will remain humbly grateful, and will carry the memory with me, always. The next logical step ,may be to, one day, taste a top selection at over 20, or 30 years, if I may ever be so lucky!

you’re doing longer form on Sirius, maybe change it up on WLTV…1 or 2 longer form, maybe with a guest, and shift to more of these shorter ones for wine background, & reviews…gives folks some insight, and they can go to the longer eps for bigger subjects that demand it. imho good stuff any way you cut it, but digestible chunks can be better for some eps : )

QOTD: Have had some good and not so good examples from the Loire Valley but have generally enjoyed the region. Never had a Savenniere though.

Second QOTD: I like it. Heck, I’m a “wine first” fan but still find all your other ‘fluff’ and ‘stuff’ entertaining and endearing.

Show idea: A few weeks ago you did a bunch of mass market ‘value’ wines. Here’s a twist on that idea that I think would be VERY eye-opening.

Take 1 mass-produced well-known example of a wine type, add 2 lesser/unknown examples of the same region/varietal/wine type, at approximately the same price point. See how they do against each other. I think it could open a lot of eyes to what else is out there. Doing the known/unknown like this could be a series of shows. Potentially a lot of fun.

This is hard for me to believe. From your perspective (and many others) I can see why it would be hard to fit in a 30 minute ep, family, work, commute etc. However, I find it hard to believe that people cannot find 10 or 15 minutes a day (which seems to be the average length of show) to watch WLTV. This may be an indicator I have too much time on my hands, fine, I will consider myself lucky. If you cant take 15 minutes out of your day to relax and enjoy the simplicities of life, in my opinion you have chosen the wrong career path. Supporting family and furthering one’s knowledge and inspiration in life is one thing; but if you just work to work that is unhealthy living.

  • Dig the shorter format, GV. Love to nerd it up, especially when it comes to Savennieres. Just don’t lose that old Gary charm…

  • Scott

    Hi GV
Long time fan of the Thundershow, purchased 3 copies of Crush it, and first time ‘commenter’. Maybe because I live in Ottawa and am surrounded by politicians…but I really think something in the middle would be the most appealing. 3 wines can be on the long side, but only one didn’t seem enough. I like the head2head competition and comparing/contrasting similar styles from different producers.

The background info is interesting – especially how 2 wines from the same region can end up so differently. Perhaps how wine-makers approach their craft would be an interesting addition?

Anyway, I will continue to watch and enjoy regardless of the format.
I know you are always thanking your fans – and believe me, this Canadian sends a huge thank you for your willingness to share your personality, passion, and knowledge.

    Scott

  • Squiregreg

    Enjoy the short form shows.

  • Randall

What’s left?? Smoke signals? Morse code? Hollyweird?

    :D!!

  • Chunks

I think all episodes should include a minimum of 2-3 wines and last 20 minutes or more. Why make the best show on the internet smaller? A 5 minute episode of WLT is like an 8 game NFL season rather than 16. Please go back to the old format.

  • Jon Dittert

I like the shorter format much better. I used to watch every day, but 20-30 minutes a day got to be too much. There’s no way I can absorb info on 15 or so wines a week.

  • Eric Brunger

I know very little about the valley and I like shows with more than two wines!

  • Mad Hatter

    Hey Gary,

I actually really prefer the longer shows much better, I like hearing the banter between you and mott, the pop culture references, and just kind of getting a window on your world that you can’t get in 5 min.

  • Thnx jon, would love to have u back 🙂

sounds like a nice wine. Going to pick up a Chenin Blanc this thursday for nice weekend wine

QOD: know nothing about the region
QOD2: I like the format. I am big on the full info. Its great for the nerd in me.

  • srdonjulio

qotd: not much, unfortunately. I like the shorter format. It fits my schedule and doesn’t take too much time away from my family 🙂

  • SCOTT THANK U! Seriously!

  • John Watson

QOTD: liked the short format. Loire valley Sauvignon Blanc is out of the world good. I love the Loire. It’s probably my favorite wine region after the Mosel.

  • Matteo this means so much to me, I mean that is so nice, I am beyond flattered! THANK U!

  • Master Plan is to Crush for guys like u Ralph!

  • I love it! It was very educational. I like it when there is a mix up because it makes it interesting and always keeps me wanting to come back to watch more. To be honest, that is why i didn’t hate the guest as much as other people may have because I thought it gave an interesting twist to every show. Anyway, that being said, all the episodes are awesome, 5 minutes or thirty minutes!

  • Would love to catch up!

  • JEFF stay whats up to the other CKC’s 🙂

I think what work are your personality and your abilities to interact plus react to what is around you with what comes naturally to you. You are a master of that. And you always ask the vayniacs the feedbacks and what we like to see. If it feels too much like a classroom, I don?t know how you can build a stronger fan base like this one. I know you have to do some short episodes because you are a super busy person. I miss some of your location episodes from the past which you really had to shoot from the hip and improvise. You had to battle the sound, the environments, the locations?.of all that You?ve made it FUN to trust your own palate. I think short episodes are harder for the new vayniacs to know you. my 2 cents.

  • Ontario Pete

I may be wrong, but in Dudley Do-Right land, my driveway is private property and I can drink what I like. This is Canada – unfortunately, it’s usually beer.

  • indeed!

  • Thnx Mark and Welcome!

  • BrianK

Format works…to share and gain interest from others who do not know you yet. Quick and informative. Good change up. Focused on the wine and features. Like the facts. Not enough GaryVee character flavor, still impressionable w/ class.

  • liked the new format…short and precise…don’t really have enough time to watch the 20 minute shows so this is a nice…my daily shot of GV!!

  • Randall

I wish I could say the same about the “Land of the Free”, but, depending on where you are in this great country that was founded on being able to be your own person, and own your own land, that does not always matter… Even in your own freakin’ driveway!! God help us!!
p.s. Whether it’s PN or beer (Good beer, btw), who cares? Enjoy! 😛

  • I like that, thnx for the info!

  • Love the new format, but you have to get a 20 min show with your father once in a while 🙂

  • BrianK I think GaryVee style will come

  • Anonymous

ha ha. or wine with a major pazzzzzzzz with 8 z?s no notes.

  • Hatter I hear u man, this is so hard to find the spot, But I am enjoying the journey

  • Anonymous

    Bollywood.

  • Anonymous

That’s the way it should be!

  • YAWN!!! Well, not completely but it just is what I love.

QOTD: I love the info and want to always have that but I think that the “Vayniacs” are here for you as much as the wine. Whatever you decide to do with this, I want to make sure that you give us your carefree fun personality. And the randomness.

Anyway, give us some balance, like we like our wine.

P.S. I love you and miss you.

  • Know nothing about the region.

Love the tight, dense format. Love the 20-30 minute vids too but don’t always have the time to watch. Can always make the time for anything under 7 minutes.

  • *isn’t what I love

  • i like the more focused shows, but i also like when u get crazy once in a while. would have been nice to see maybe 2 wines instead of one, maybe 10 min instead of 5–but thats just me 🙂

qotd: i dont know much about the loire valley, i really need to study up on french wine. i just had a 2008 st nicolas fiefs vendeens the other day and it was awesome.

  • yes, balance. this is life’s toughest equation.

  • Rodney Jasen

Gary, Though I have to admit I have only watched a few of your longer version videos. What makes the show interesting is “YOU”. I think is should be a little longer than a 5 minutes show so we still get the “entertainment value” your personality. Perhaps 8-10 minutes.
