Not too sure about the five minute format…seems a bit too short

I just really like that you overcame ‘disgust’ to log in a day or two ago as the BEST phonetic spelling of your hometown that I’ve Ever seen …

I saw various Rieslings that I almost bought while at TJs earlier today… But I was looking for da “Espiral” VV specifically… to no avail. Only got one bottle left w/ some scallops and veggies… Mmm, mm good. I ended up getting some kinda Rheingau Riesling for $7.99 that I will be glad to rate as soon as I kill it…

  • King of Pape

    Enjoy the new format.
    Focused informative show.
    I learned something today.
A bottle I should be able to find.

  • Randall

    Not haiku. something else??

  • QOTD: I know that i really want to try a savennieres ASAP.
for the format I like a lot of info and being able to learn a lot in a short time, but its not important to me for the video to be short. I’d be just as happy with a 20 minute video that also has some good info

  • Randall

Seriously, a case shoukl last you for the rest of the summer…

Nah, I’m not feeling this quickie-format. Sometimes it’s better to take your time and I think that’s the case with WLTV. But thanks to this very episode I at least decided that I’m gonna have to find me some Savennieres at the airport tomorrow before flying back home.

  • King of Pape

    Bullet points today.
    Don’t know why.

  • Jonathan_Alfaro

I prefer the longer format. I love the eiposodes that are close to 30 minutes long. I love learning about more than one wine per show. Just my two cents…

  • waynooo daaa wino

Yooo Randall, ROOOOOCCKK OOOOOONNN!!! Deeeer Viiiiinooooooo gooot meee

I watched the episode twice. Let me give you my honest opinion, it’s not for me. When I watch your show I am trying to find out “which particular brand of wines are interesting” or “what types of wines have I never tried.”

I like the length of the episode, but the content is too nerdy for me. I just can’t appreciate what you are getting at. In the first 910 episodes of your show I have learned to trust my own palette and try new things.

What lesson do you want the everyday wine drinker to learn in the next 1000 episodes? I know I want to learn how to find “hidden treasure” wines. Maybe how to make wine at home. Great food pairings. How to host a wine party. Basically, how to seem like you can party like Gary Vaynerchuk without becoming Gary Vaynerchuk. I am not sure if I am doing my thoughts justice on the subject. But keep trying new things and seeing what sticks.

  • John Rogers

Good show direct to the point. It seems to me that it just was too short and another wine would have flesh it out more.

QOTD: The Loire valley not much. I have not been a fan of French wines and even white wines lately.

    YO G, GRRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed the short episode. It makes the content very digestable. I don’t have time to watch all of your full length episodes, but if they are all this short, I’d probably watch a lot more.

QOTD: I just started reading Kermit Lynch’s “Adventures of the Wine Route” this week so I’ve learned quite a bit out the region in the first chapter.

  • Love the 5 minute format. Perfect for busy days where I still would like to catch up with the wine world. Keep it up! For those out there who thinks it was too short, supply your hunger with earlier shows from the same region 🙂

  • QOTD: Loire, nerdy whites all the way. River country, great landscape, underestimated as a food and wine region for us outside France. Wold heritage since 2000, makes all types of wine. Grow Sauvignon Blanc , Muscadet, Melon de Bourgogne, Romorantin, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Saumur-Champign, Pinot Noir, Pineau d?Aunis, Grolleau, Gamay, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Almost 40 appellations
5 minutes not som much, 10 -30 is good format, mixing it up, facts vs fun stuff, food and wine, wine and other stuff, lots of stuff :D.
Oh, and don’t make to many promises that fall short.

  • Fastlane

Gary, I have much more detailed feedback to provide, but I will be brief: Less real information – more zany descriptions, table pounding etc…and you need three wines per show. Life works in threes.

I LOVE this AOC! Some of the best structured, longest aging whites on the planet, and I love the dry whites from this region.

QOTD: I’ve studied nearly all of the regions of the Loire from West to East, but I am always trying to learn more about the lesser-known AOC. Cour-Cheverny was the most interesting white region that I tasted lately, and I had never had a wine made from Romorantin. Distinctive flavor profile, high acid and minerality, and I loved it. Still tasting through the region as often as possible.

QOTD: Fantastic region. Very very beautiful and they have amazing wines needles to say. My favorite are the creamants. Great value in my opinion.

The format is pretty cool. I would like these kind of shows for a while.

Haha, thanks Randall! ‘Disgust’ has never given me any problem surprisingly.

    Here’s a sign inside a shop in town 🙂

    Hi Gary,

Love the Loire, had a great Bourgeuill yesterday, also love Sancerre. One of the best reds I think is Clos Rougeard les Poyeux, just fantastic. About the format, love it,more info, shorter, I think it’s super. Maybe 2 wines would be great ?

I love the nerd factor but would prefer at least 2 or 3 wines at a time. Just seems like it makes it better in terms of knowledge sharing. Short is OK but 5 minutes might be a little too tight for those of us who tune in first thing…

Love the Loire! Have been many many times including Savennières (easy to do though when you live in France). Won’t go into too much detail but definitely an under-valued region even in the domestic French market. Great place for value plays.

  • Howdy Gary ! long time no comment / no see !

QOTD : Well I work there! Actually I now work in sales and marketing for Evelyne de Pontbriand, who made your favorite wine during the Paris tasting ! … 2005 Domaine du Closel Savennieres Clos du Papillon … so 2 things I know… what about us among “major Savennieres producers”??? :-(… hehe… btw Luc Bizard (d’Epire) is our neighbor… interesting guy… thing #2… i also know that Bernard du Closel created the Savennieres AOC in 1952 … he was the mayor of Savennieres for like 50 years !!! and also the husband of Marque de Las Cases, who was the beginning of our five generations of women winemakers at Domaine du Closel… Marque de Las Cases inherited the estate at the beginning of the 20th century… and Evelyne’s mom, Michele de Jessey (Marque de Las Cases’ niece) inherited the estate later on since Marque de Las Cases and Bernard didn’t have any children… btw our 2009s just finished fermenting! and after about one more year in barrel (there’s hardly any new oak… no worries, no oak monsters), we’ll be ready to release ‘er!!!

dude we should get Evelyne on the show !!!…

Love your show and I love this kind of format – clear and concise. However, I agree with most people had commented here. Three wine recommendations or reviews is absolutely great for me, and I learn a lot from you.

  • Thigh shows really work for me. 1 wine, 1 message, quick and as you said, consumable. Really in to this format.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Not much. Sancerre is always made with sauvignon blanc and the chenin blancs that I’ve tasted from the area of Loire has been awesome.

I love all the info, but I would like to see a bit more wine and not just one. 3 is perfect I say.

  • Gio

Love the five-minute format! But I’m not sure it would play as the ONLY format. But perhaps a tight little show like this 2x weekly?

  • bartingy

Works well for one wine I think, big on detail is good and good for your timetable when needed.

  • Me250fitr

I woud love to see 7-10 wines per show, with some info on all of them, and every show to be 45 minutes long

  • David_from_Michigan

I have been trying to make kit wine at home, less to produce a great wine, and more to expand my knowledge about wine, varietals, etc. While my best effort wouldn’t earn more than a 52 from Gary, I have had decent efforts by others. It would be interesting to have Gary explain where the best of these fall short, perhaps with a head-t0-head comparison with an adequate effort. Of course Wine Library doesn’t sell wine kits, and might not want to support people making 30 bottles at a time at home….

  • David_from_Michigan

BTW I like the snappy format. It is short enough to watch before leaving for work.

  • the tight format is clutch. I’m a fan of it G

  • Nice and sweet but give me the fluff, hoopla and interaction. Now and then throw in one of these abridged versions. As for Thursday night, congrats again and I almost made it on though it took me one hour to finally get through on the phone line but then I would have been talking to you during the tech geek part of the show so I bailed.I have a bottle of the XXXII Zin and I’m with friends at the beach right now so we willl taste along with you (and hopefully talk to you) this Thursday. Since yesterday was my birthday this would be the greatest present.
QOTD: Not alot other than they have some gorgeous chateaus and the Chenin Blanc and SB dominate the region. Little else.

    Cheers!Dom

P.S. i realize time is a premium in your world right now so if we can only have you for short snippets, so be it. We have a library to get our fix on zaniness and fun. 🙂

  • QOTD: I think the new format is great. Generally I tend to like shorter videos when it comes to web. I think the 15min format is the most I can watch on a regular basis, so I think you should stick with this one, ocassionally mixing with short videos like the one above. Especially if it would allow you to make even more episodes 🙂

Love it. Just dropping knowledge. Kermit is the man.

  • Ket9004

I think the format is great for a change of pace. Keep the variety though, I like the guests and the longer formats as well. Again, variety is the key.

  • Our company imports alot of wines from Baumard and I tasted their Clos du Papillon 2005 recently and it was goooood. Chenin Blanc has really become my favorite grape variety. Nicolas Joly also brings the thunder with hes Chenin Blancs! Baumard also makes Crémant de Loire which is very champagne like with loads of apple slices and citrus flavors and it’s a bargain too!

Keep on making the noice for Savenniers and Loire. Perhaps you should also bring the voice for Friulu. Ribolla Gialla, Verduzzo etc..!

  • tjvalla

Super tight show, Gary! I’m definitely a fan of such compact, yet info-packed format.
QOTD: I still need to explore the Loire valley further. I got a Sancerre waiting in the fridge, as part of a comparative Sauvignon Blanc tasting against wines from New Zealand, Chile, South Africa and Spain. Looking forward…
