Not too sure about the five minute format…seems a bit too short

I like the longer format better than this short show, it would be ok to have a short show maybe once a week, but like the tasting of 3 bottles much better.

  • Randall

    Oh… you’re a sly one…
    😀

  • Randall

    Tried to reply back.
    Discus beat me up Again.
    I will conquer yet.

QOTD: Love Loire Valley. I was there in 1996 (long ago).

I like 10-20 minute shows. Tomorrow is a 2 parter with Victory Brewery. I’m looking forward to watching since I live 20-30 minutes from there but long shows are hard to fit in sometimes. I say I’ll watch it later. Then later keeps getting later. Suddenly it’s the weekend and I’m catching up on WLTV episodes. Keep doing whatever you like and I’ll watch all episodes short and long.

  • Dan Edghill

whatever format you feel like, mix it up

  • Just Jack

    That is the spirit
Do not let the bastards win
    Tell Gary they suck!

  • Tflangan

Don’t like the shortened format. Your best shows are when you compare 4-5 bottles of the same type of wine. This episode just felt rushed and unattached.

  • canadapete

    I love short and sweet!!

  • A dumb Rhein king

You can’t just list all the good things about the short format and then ask for opinions 🙂 It is good in my opinion. I’m not very picky though. I enjoyed the good amount of info.

QOTD: Only what you just taught me. I don’t have a lot of experience with the Loire.

  • Ee Glenn

I like the short format. Not in exclusion of longer shows, but as a regular part of WLTV. The longer shows definitely have their uses and purposes (i.e. the beer tasting show posted just after this) but the short format’s nice when time is limited. Thanks for asking! 🙂

  • PortWineFan

I get the feeling that the short show is out of necessity – you’re time is lessened and doing the longer shows cuts too deep. It looked like you were battling between giving an honest show and getting it over quickly because you have other things to get to.

I’m guessing something has to give – either the length of the shows or their frequency, if not both over time. This is your chance to knock one out quickly to see the response and gauge how you will budget your time.

QOTD: Didn’t really know anything about the Loire Valley

  • Dcrem1

I like the shorter format..one to two wines with history and your opinion/ratings. I also hope you can still fit in the fun that makes you, you…

  • John Fasc

    love this informational compact format.

  • I’ve read about these wines but have never had any… guess it’s time.

QOTD: The river passes through the city of Tours, one of my favorites in France. (…it’s also great that very fine wine comes from the regions trailing it.)

side QOTD: Gary, this short format is actually very good for me these days, been quite busy and have been seeing the episodes two or three days after they’re posted, so it’s good that they are shorter and to the point ( but I like longer shows with guests as well, actually I like them every way you make them, I’m not picky ).

  • Norm

I like the format for sure, but I’d like a comparison with another wine in the same style. Other than that, I like it fo sho.

  • Stan The Wine Man

    Gary,
I like at least a comparison of two wines. I love the info although I knew a lot of that already. Two wines helps the viewer see the difference or likeness in your palate. Remember that some of your viewers are new and need a starting point for YOUR palate. Just saying. Personally I like whatever you do because it comes from your heart. Thanks.

  • Stan The Wine Man

Q.O.T.D. I cannot live without a Sancerre at least once a month. I need the minerality and austere nature of this white. Oysters, clams or solo it fits the bill.

  • Gongfather

I like the new tighter format with just one wine. Learned a few things I didn’t know about the Loire. I love Loire reds with their ripping acidity.

  • Ray Rodgers

Did a B&R bike trip in the Loire a few years ago and fell in love with the wines. We drank some older Chinons and Burgeils and really enjoyed the Quart d’ Chaumes (sp).
Love the show and the concise format.
    Ray

  • Tighter format is great for my bottom line oriented D wired style Gary. Great!

  • DaveAll

good show. thanks. short and crisp. now that you are a radio personality, will we get less of you? smile. When you get your own TV show, I guess this media is toast. ugh? haha. (making you think)
QotD: Loire I know only a little of, heard of it. this format is like Readers Digest of the Bible. not sure I like it. but not bad once in a while. (1 a week)

  • Wawolf

I like the added information, but I agree with others, please compare at least 2 wines 🙂

  • Jasonbcarey

Most people who love Savennieres.. would cellar this wine for 10 years before drinking..

  • Anonymous

Well executed Gary. I enjoy the background on the region and longest river facts, but I could use a 30 second sports take from you.

Just swooped up your book. Loving it so far… hit us with a paperback a little earlier for “economy” far easier to take notes in and reference. Keep it up.

  • Anonymous

and we all know this format would be enhanced with a 2nd wine and we know you’ve got guests and more brown bags lined up……….. ginger beer next. I’ll try to buckle down for 38 mins iffy tho.

  • Don Simpson

Wham bam thank you ma’am! I liked the tight and focused show, another good format for your arsenal.

QOTD: I’m obsessed with Sancerre and Scallops. I’ve also been drinking more Vouvray recently and have had a few Savennieres.

  • John__J

    Great show.
qotd: Well I know I wasn’t crazy about the pinot gris rose I had from Rueilly in Loire recently. Other than that I know it’s massively underrated for a region that has Muscadet, Sancerre, Chinon, Quart de Chaumes, Rose d’Anjou, Bonnezeaux, Vouvray, Bourguiel, Pouilly Fume etc etc etc wines going for it in addition to Savennieres.

Love all the info on the episode, but I do prefer a 10-15 min episode, more than 1 wine on a show is nice too. But keep up the info Gary.

  • marcbelgium

I like this format very much; short but with lots of info.

QOTD. I love the Loire Valley. For me Loire is Didier Dagueneau, a magician.

  • I agree. I loved the short and detailed information, but having some fun personal facts thrown in is great.

  • I liked that beer tasting show as well and having it long was better.

  • I agree. It’s the fact that it’s from the heart that is most important.

  • I like the throw the dog a bone episodes. Sometimes I’m not hungry enough for a meal and I’d like to just chew on a bone for a bit. 🙂

  • Matttaylor731

    john, don’t be a douche

  • Phil G

Like the short show, but not as much as the 15 minute variety… more room to try a few more wines.

QOTD – like the Loire Valley, anjoyed travling there a few years back. The Chateaus/Castles were pretty cool to visit

  • I like the format, but like the ones with 2-3 wines better.

QOTD: I dont drink enough from this region.

  • ND

Gary > general wine information. More fluff!

  • Lv4oscar

Great Idea! Great Hosting! Suggest 2 wines per show. Don’t forget the Champagne! Keep up the good work Gary..

  • Anonymous

Great show. The focus and the detail were great for one wine. It seems this format would work well for 2 wines when a compare/contrast play is needed.

QOTD: The Loire Valley is under-rated. The price v value of their wines blows me away, especially when I see Cali producers charging 35-40 bones for their Sauv Blancs. The Loire producers deserve all the press and credit they can get. Definitely check out Tavel wines, too.

  • I dig the focused format. Short is ok for those of us who work daily.

QotD: Love Chenin Blanc, Cali haters should try Navarro. Joly’s Coulée de Serrant should be on everyone’s list of must-drink wines.

  • I really like the 5 min format Gary. Concise and powerful!

  • QOTD: Love the format, love love love the info. A little too short for me, I like seeing a couple of wines from a region. And seriously, after 910 episodes your pronunciation of the French language is still abysmal! LOL, just ragging on you a bit, it’s actually not bad, you just need to remember that D’epire is pronounced like Depir. The apostrophe makes it into one word. Great geek show!

  • Randall

    No more lurking now…

  • Great show… like all the info… I think would be great as you move around the globe, places like Argentina, Australia and the US!

First thing I get was google the Loire Valley and put everything you said in context.

More of these shows please! Plus your knowledge is amazing!

  • Crad5

Like the background info, like the concise format, but I’m OK with < 15 min and get a couple more wines in there. What if this one was a dud?

  • QOTD – I love the breadth of the wine varieties, especially with the whites. Great values.

enjoy the wham, bam, you know what of the quick hit 5 minutes. Nice stuff.

  • PhilB

Yeah, I love this wine ! Owner Luc Bizard is a great guy, very friendly and will have you over any time to visit and taste !

    Best from Paris,

    PhilB

  • Jim

What do I know about the Loire Valley? Let’s just say, I FORGET more than you know.

  • Hey how did I miss this little show….?
QOTD: I like the mix of show formats, and this was a nice little nerd shot…if it means you can crank several out for Mott to release when you are traveling…even better.

French class trip to France in high school, day trip to the Loire, buddy and I peeled away from the group at lunch time in Orleans and found a tiny establishment run by an old couple…had French style calzones ( Kahuna – it had no tomato sauce or cheese, but instead roasted vegetables, mushrooms, and an egg! ) along with a carafe of a light fresh house red. 25 years later and I still remember that as one of those moments of vinlightenment…

  • Anonymous

Like the info, just to short. Like more than one wine from the region. Maybe somewhere between 5-15. I still love it when you wander the office.

  • i know that PINEAU D’ANIS comes from the loire, and i think you need to try a few of them on your show.
