Not too sure about the five minute format…seems a bit too short

Loved this 5 minuter Gary. Spent 2 weeks in The Loire Valley in 2005. Life expanding from a wine perspective. Spectacular sparklings. I don’t drink alcohol but for about 7 years when I was younger a German multiple vineyard owning family taught me a lot through smell. I’ve got very heightened senses. Love Wine Library T.V. Already ordering Barbaresco for Christmas gifts – thanks to your recent show. Deep thanks, Marie in Ireland.

I like this kind of short format but I also LOVE longs ones where you talk not just about wine but about other things in life. I don’t want WLTV to be like a daily wine lecture. I love the show because it is so personable and fun and unpretentious, yet still very informative.

I love the short ones for day to day viewing…but I also really love when you ramble and when you compare…

  • Stvnmc

Great length show! Great info! It’s a winner!

  • Allan

I love this new format, but could you do 2 episodes a day???

    😛

  • Really prefer the new format. I hope you stay with it.

  • Gary, I love the tight format…but I REEEEALLY LOVE your “fluff”. Your craziness is what keeps me coming back for more. I haven’t found a wine I like (of course, I haven’t tasted a whole lot) so I don’t tune in for the wine info–although, I’m becoming more interested, for sure! Your wackiness is what makes this show fantastic for me. Keep it comin’ man!

Would like this format for 1 or 2 times per week.

  • Pattison

    Gary-
Enjoyed the show and the new format. Will echo and expand a few other comments I have read. I don?t think this show format can replace the ?classic? show formats of multi-bottles, food and wine, blind tastings, special guest, Sasha spot lights, etc. I could envision this tighter show format being appropriate for 1-2 times a week or en lieu of a no show day, then the other days of the week could be back to the ?classic? format.

Just my 2 cents. All the best,
    Sean

    I’d take THREE Episodes a day…… :oP

Hey Gary, instead of having 5 days a week of the same format. Why not have 5 formats 1 day a week?

    Monday: Blind Tasting Shoot Out
Tuesday: Cheap Ass Tuesday (high quality inexpensive wines)
Wednesday: Nerdtacular Wine Geekery (like this episode)
Thursday: Thunder Thursdays (previous show format of 3 interesting wines, also a great day to have an awesome guest)
    Friday: Laid Back Friday

A nice show, i like the sharpe format, (and the the mentioning of cellartracker)

  • Dfrawley

Love Savennieres, but have never tasted a dry style. I think Chenin Blanc is super-underrated and very this show proves the wonderful diversity of styles. I will definitely look for this. Keep up this one wine format, I like it!

  • TimCtheFilmGuy

I love the variety of formats! I would not want this 5 min type more than once a week. Keep mixing it up. I love gdeciantis’ idea!!

  • I like the tight format! Trimming the fat!

QOTD. Loire = Beautiful Renaissance Chateaus, food and wine!

    LOVE Loire Chenin Blanc!!!

  • MattyT

I like the tight format as well, a lot easier to conceal at work! Oh, and I know nothing about the Loire Valley except it’s the second largest producer of sparkling wine in France (WLTV ep. 910) 🙂

  • Sweet Reverend

Good show but I prefer the “classic” style.

Like the short show & good info. Nice to get a little more in depth about region, variety, etc. Solid.

QOTD: don’t know much about loire. maybe for future shows do something that’s typical of the region and then something smaller like the wine you just did. just a thought.

  • Joe L

I can maybe take the new format once a week. Not as much fun and a bit boring, sorry. Too much for me like Sir Gary. But hey, what do I know, I’m a newbie here.

  • Anonymous

I think the quick hit programs are fun, but I do like the longer form.

Maybe you could do something along the lines of a 3 short 1 long weekly formatting for the show (because we all know you’ll stick with that…sincerely, taste along Friday’s…just kidding).

Love the show in whatever way I can get them.

Very informative show Gary. QOTD: the only things I know about the Loire are what I have learned on WLTV. I know today’s wine looked good. QOTD2: I like the shorter format sometimes, but I prefer 2 or 3 wines in about 10 to 12 minutes.

  • paul

Like Savenniere, have a good number of Loire wines (red & white) in the cellar. Been enjoying them for many years.

New format is okay as long as you have some old style mixed in. I know you’re really busy and appreciate that it’s difficult to tape a number of longer programs, so the short notes version is an okay variant.

  • NY Pete

ok … enough old news …
    where’s some new thunder???

  • Allan

    “And i’m lost,
    and i’m lost
    and i’m lost
at the bottom of the world
    I’m handcuffed to the bishop
    and the barbershop lights,
i’m lost at the bottom of the world….”

  • YNWA.CPH.DK

Like the format very much. The length means I can fit it in as a mental break at work, and I love the more in depth info about the wine and region. More of that info, please!

I also like 40 minute blockbusters where you ramble on about the Jets…keep it vibrant and changing!

QOTD: I can never EVER remember whether it’s Pouilly-Fumé or Pouilly-Fuissé that’s from Loire/Burgundy. Just google’d it so I know now but I’ll have forgotten it again tomorrow. My brain simply refuses to make that fact stick.

  • Allan

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!

Cheep Ass Tuesday, I love it.

  • RobinC

It would be nice to mix the lengths of the shows according to whatever time you have available to you.
QOTD: I have been researching the Loire Valley as I’ll be there in a few short weeks. There are over 60 wines; the most common varietals are sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc, and cabernet franc. Mot is the local word for Malbec. That’s about it so far.

  • Eric79

I like 3 or more wines per show – bigger sampler of a region – and better chance of having an interesting wine in case 1 or 2 are duds.

It seems that in this country in particular staying busy is a sign of high productivity and accomplishment (which often times it is). That being said, if people over extend themselves with every waking minute, I would imagine their productivity and effort would suffer as a result (take Gary for instance). Again, I completely understand the ethos of the hustle and applaud those who work hard and take what they do very seriously. But like Randal said above, moderation is often overlooked regarding work, stress lack of rest etc; all the vino in the world are not going to help these poor souls live longer or live less hectic lives.

  • Other than CdP, Loire has been growing in its appeal. During my brief vacation in Montreal, I ordered a few Chinons (or beer), while my wife stuck to Burgundy. Sancerre/Vouvray are often go-to for family dinner parties too.

QOTD: I liked this focal video, but I believe variety is the spice of life. Keep it loose/fluid.

  • billrafferty

Like the quick, info packed format. The longer shows honestly lost my interest, but this makes me want to head out and check out the wine world again. And like @Eric79 suggested, maybe expand to include a variety, 2-3 per show.

  • More Gary more wines…short format is nice once in a while but the compare and contract shows with 3 wines are better. Loved your energy and free form comments on the radio. It was a throw back sitting in the car listening to a RADIO show. Well done and can’t wait for Thursday

  • QOTD: What do I know about Loire? Nada, but learned a bunch just now 🙂

Gotta agree with gdeciantis’ 5-formats-a-week idea. Love the blinds,
but couldn’t watch a week of ’em. Love the 45 minute rambling guest
episodes, but couldn’t watch a week of ’em. Love the nerdy, …you
get the idea. This tight format would be great for mobile, tho, which
is something you talked about recently.

Didn’t post yesterday because I was pissed. IMO 5 minutes is a “phone it in”, a “throw the dogs a bone” episode. I understand that you’re busy but I would rather see a normal episode than have you even bother with this sort of sound bite ep. If you don’t have the time in a day, don’t do anything.

  • Anonymous

Then don’t cheat at work. They don’t pay you to watch Gary!

we’re all gonna be in the same when we die….

    DAAAAAAAATS WHAAAAT I SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ;o)

  • Allan

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

  • QOTD1 Yesterday was my birthday and I love the wines from Loire Valley, I know lots of theory but I would like to know much more about the wines itself. taste taste taste
QOTD2 good the short episode, I like it! but I also like two wines blind or three…I think its good the variation.

  • Lwatkins

Love the info that is attached to wine, I think this is a great format a few times a month

  • Allan

Yeah yeah yeah, now, let’s have some thunder!!!

  • Alexandre-CF

    yeahh, that is great.
talk nerdy to me.. LOL i love this kinda o show with info and stuff.

QOTD: a little bit but not as much as i wish. i´m really into the Chinons ans Bourgueils.

  • norcalking

QOTD; Honestly, I know as much about the Loire valley as you presented on this episode.

Format; Changing it up, in general, is a good way to go. Here’s something I found ironic though. You gave props to Kermit Lynch and his was one of my favorite episodes. It was what, a two parter, about half an hour each. Then there’s another crowd favorite, your dad. Put your dad on for five and a half minutes and let’s see how it goes.

Like the kid said, “More please.”

  • Decent, like the more info part.

QOTD: Kinda like the blinds best of all, but this format is a nice change of pace

  • Anonymous

    GARY!!!!!

QOTD1: Not as much as I do now! TY!!
QOTD2: I love learning about wine and think throwing in a short WLTV every now and then is good..to focus on a specific wine..but…It does seem a little rushed…How about 8 minutes!?! LOLOLOL

    LOVE YOU
    xoxo

  • Rabakatz

Recently went to a Loire Valley tasting. Already knew sancerre and vouvray but enjoyed the chinon and muscadet. It is a region that needs more play
