    Mott got bored?

912 episodes in, Mott gets pissed, and leaves! :0p

    Mott has an off-day??

    The urin part was a stand-out. . . .

Great great great great great show, the way to CRUSH IT, if i may say so. Classic.

My favourite beers are still the belgians, sorry, new world.

I have had Utopia and it’s GOOOOOOOOD, i wouldn’t call it beer though—

Qotd: Wouldn’t know, not american. But maybe… 🙂

    Burp-bye!

  • Allan

    SAY WHAAAAAAAAT 😛

  • Allan

Why post comment, when not watching? Has me puzzled. That is all.

That wine glass covering your face looks like plastic wrap. My first thought **What a freak**.

    LOL

  • Because he does it every time there is a guest. Every time. Not realizing that other people may like guests. Every, every time. Or, that WLTV has been having guests on SINCE EPISODE #14.

    Every, every, every time.

  • Allan

    I agree, what a freak 😛

  • Will part 3 be in 3D?
    Will we need glasses?

  • Lvine

Excellent guest! I am a wine person first, but love a good beer every now and then. I will definitely look for Victory beers in MN and WI.

QOTD: Sorry, I’m too much of a newbee in the beer world to know.

    Saludos!

Crazy great episodes! He had some great stories and they were good enough to make Gary shut up and listen 🙂 Made my evening.

  • I have had Utopia. It’s more like a brandy. My friend talks about it on his site: http://drunkandunemployed.com/index.php/2009/12/utopia/

We now have I believe 10 or more breweries on Long Island alone. I think craft beer is definitely going through a great period. Individuals and restaurants are really are seeking it out and supporting their local breweries.

I am disappointed that people are just brushing it off.

I love beer, more than wine but I watch WLTV because I want to try and expand my palate. Has it been easy? No! a lot of wine has ended up in sauce or down the drain. Good wine mind you. But, if I hadn’t taken that chance I would not have discovered my love for sparkling wines and chenin blancs.

So go to Trader Joes and buy singles or a six pack of something new. Why not?

  • *snickers* he said weener.

I love the beer aspect and other alcohol in general. really great episode. I think southern tier brewery needs some mention next time. They are getting extremely popular and expanding rapidly. The creme brulee is earth shattering

  • mmm…beer. Love it but can only have one or two before I am filled up…wine seems to have no such limit. Hot and humid up here today…I think I will catch this later and head down to the river with the Errazuriz Sauvignon Blanc…cheers.

You and dr. shithead (no caps on purpose) are missing out. I used to be like you regarding no attention to beer, how wrong I was…

It takes tolerance. I did not drink beer untill I started working at the winery, go figure.

  • Good show. Glad that he went back and said that these shouldn’t be head to head match-ups because they really aren’t the same style. Terroir still applies, in one sense or another, in the beer world.

I wish that the guest had more to say about favorites, fruit beers, etc… So many great questions that had a ton of different answers, but he didn’t come back with anything.

QOTD: Not alive during that era of wine so can’t really speak to that.

  • step up the wine trying with expensive wine. Just today I served a 55 dollar wine to my 24 year old stephson, that do not drink wine, and he lookes amazed. “Oh, this is what you rave about, silky feel, fruit, pepper, wow this is good” 🙂

  • Bro, get a life 😀

That was a really good pair of shows Gary. When you asked about South American beer, there is a brewery Mendoza, Argentina called Cerveza Jerome. http://www.cervezajerome.com/ They make really good beers in several styles. The two I’ve had were an Irish red ale type called Red and a Belgian type called Diablo. Those are the only two that I’ve seen here in Edmonton, Alberta. Dunno if they are in the US.

I had high hopes for this episode, and it delivered. A great inside look into an underappreciated corner of the industry. I agree with you regarding transition of beer flavors to wine and vice versa. I think it is time people pulled their heads out of their asses and started expanding their beer pallets. When it comes down to it, they are very similar flavor profiles one should be familiar with when judging beer or wine. I believe Randal would agree when I say beer has more options of flavor because they can brew with other ingredients. One is not better than the other, just vastly different and awesome in different ways. It is precisely that attitude that some people have on this forum toward beer that Gary and many of us are trying to avoid in beer and wine consumption in general. THAT is all.

QOTD: Craft beer in the US still has a long way to go in my opinion. Regarding its popularity compared to the “golden” age of wine in CA and other emerging wine regions at the time I think that period has almost passed. There are a few “micro” breweries that cannot call themselves that based off of production alone. Some craft breweries in the US now have international circulation that far surpasses that of the small cult wines of the past as far as I know. But for both wine and beer there is still plenty of amazing things I look forward to in the coming years.

it was an epic beer episode

QOD: I wasn’t alive back then so i don’t know. But I would say that being in a college town with some craft brewers around that craft beer is much bigger than wine in my age demographic the 21-39 crowd. And its well appreciated

QOTD: I’m German. I am not in any position to answer questions about American beer. American beers have gotten way better over the last few years. But you still have alot to learn folks. 😉

  • BOOM! Camera bump… 😉

  • Send your next bottle of 55 dollar wine to this address……… 😛 You bawlers!!!!! I’m afraid I don’t have the coinage as you top guns 🙂

It doesn’t help that so far I haven’t liked any red wine I have tasted. I’m afraid to go in the higher price range and not like it. 🙁

i love craft beer and am a huge supporter of all local brewers … i do agree that craft beer is under appreciated in America but i feel that it is truly moving forward

great show(s) … keep mixing it up and doing what you do … loved the conversations, great stories, great questions … keep the thunder coming

  • Sweet Reverend

Great two parter episode! Gary V. is set to become the next Oprah.

  • dizzing Urquell? the father of all pilsner? It should be tart, bitter and actually served slightly chilled, to a plate of pan fried salted pork, fresh potatoes and brown beans, that pilsner territory. Or Baltic herring and mashed potatoes and crisp bread, or….
Good discussion on the beer fresh dilemma. I wish I could import Kona Brewing beers to Sweden, but that is a really hard play.
NO, Urquell and Paulaner is not yellowtailers, they are legit, that would be Carlsberg and Budwieser
Fruit beer, well Beligan Krieks are the original stuff, and no one poopoo a Kriek. EVER!
QOTD: Have not tasted a lot of american beer compared to eurpoean beer, but the ones I’ve tasted , some have good parts other don’t. So yes, There are all chances that american beer could sell more, world wide, just on their flavour profiles

  • I don’t have that much money either, but I put aside a small sum every month and then after a couple of them I can afford to buy a bottle or two to experiment. I do buy 7 dollar wines too. Always looking for bargains

  • Anonymous

QOTD — I don’t know about the marketing aspect or market share, but in terms of variety, the American ‘craft beer’ choices seem way ahead of where American wines were around 1980

  • Ronwestlund

Dude!!! come on Gary……Paulaner? you need to drink more German pilsners. Paulaner is to Chablis as that head-to-head Victory is to California chard. German pilsner rules and cannot by touched by these overly flavorful beers. dude!

  • QOTD: Not a beer fan, but I definitely sense a surge in craft beer interest. And not like the microbrew fad of the 90’s, a real genuine interest.

  • Randall

Paulaner IS an awesome brewing giant. Their Hefs (with Hopf Brewing’s Hefs) are pretty much reference-standard beers…

  • Randall

And we ALL could learn from the Flemish…
    ;P

  • Randall

    I concur, kind sir…

re:your QOTD answer… Also agree. And good examples of a “microbrewery” that is not really that anymore would be Sierra Nevada and Samuel Adams. Both have gotten exponentially better over the last decade or so, and I hope to see that trend continue. With them and many other breweries…

  • Randall

They have several other styles available here in Sacramento, CA and not only are they real… they’re Spectacular. Seriously though, that brewery Does make some fine beers…

  • Randall

    Great strategy, AndersN…

  • Randall

Germans and American craft brewers raised brewing to an amazing science… but the Belgians raised it to an art…
    😛

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Absolutely and WTF Gary 😉

  • Randall

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… I think Dr. Teeny-Weeny has an actual medical problem known as “masochism”. He enjoys being the object of derision by others, and does all he can do to promote that and keep it coming. He feels worthless and needs others to re-enforce that view. I don’t like or agree with psychiatry in general, but if something is That obvious… call it what it is.

    p.s. BEER ROCKS!!

Took the thought right out oft brain! Stone, dog fish head, Russian river etc. Will inevitably have to change at some point, but in a way I hope they never do.

  • Carilius Maximus

Okay, Like I am not even that much of a sports fan, but DUDE, Where was the first “Superbowl” held????..HUH…and then baseball Uh, Hello….Dodgers, or as we like to say here, “Los Doyers” ..attendance records,…Hello!!!
    ….Great Beer show …solid!!!
