Not a big fan of the short format. I imagine this is what other wine video blogs might be like. Cut down to purely an info show, GV’s personality has no chance to shine, and lets face it, that’s why we watch.

feedback on the format – 5 min is better than 0 min – but not a huge fan of the shorty shorty

  • KAHUNA

I predict Malbec will be popular

Old World, luv’d the Chateau LaGrezette 2001 with a few years on it and a slab of red meat in front of it it was spectacular.
New world, gotta go Luca or Achaval Ferrer – almost any vintage.

    XOXOX

“Squirrel meat?” I thought the only folks who ate squirrel were from . . . other parts of the country. Glad to hear GV is among the squirrel eaters.

    Like the short format

  • Anonymous

    Almost top ten!

  • Lvine

I like a shorter format every now and then, but under 10 min. seems a bit too short in my opinion.

QOTD: Living in Chile limits me to South Amerian wines for the moment…my favorite Malbec right now is from the Chilean vineyard Loma Larga in the Casablanca Valley. Loma Larga is an excellent small producer that makes fabulous cool-climate reds.

    Saludos!

  • I’m diggin’ it Gary. You’re still giving out that great info on an interesting wine for folks to try, but at the much more minimal time expense of 6:03 minutes, I said “Ok, I can watch this BEFORE I get back to work,” instead of choosing to wait to watch the 15 minute episodes after I’m done working. Keep up the good work! Ebenlo

    too short!
    qotd-2008 nomade malbec argentina

  • couch dude 🙁
    Cahors 🙂
two wine minimum on the show, I think that’s always better. It is still possible to keep in 8 min.
Sacrimonial wine , you mean communion wine?
Hey I can get that here, that’s are rarety but it is 17 bones here
QOTD: No fav Malbec yet, but certainly try that one

  • Solid educational AND entertaining episode – “This was Bordeaux before Bordeaux? Kudos ;)” I start liking the new format, throw it in once a week! QOTD: Last Malbec I tasted was The Three Thieves Malbec Argentina – solid value for money. And that does count!

  • yeah, let’s
I’m in Tain L’Hermitage by then or maybe Koblenz, Pfalz

  • TheGreatWazu

LMFAO…HAHAHA were they erasers you were clapping? hahahaa. Only you. Excellent.

I am afraid that I am not one of the elite few who have sampled the delicacy known as squirrel meat. I think Gary V. needs to do a follow up video describing what squirrel meat tastes like. Or, better yet, this sounds like a job for Sir Gary.

  • Hi Gary, As I said with the last episode love the new format — as a viewer its nice to feel like you’re learning something. The only thing I would say and this is getting really picky is that the part where you’re giving us the wine facts — isn’t your strong point, we can see you looking off to the side to read something. YOU, Gary, start to really come through when you taste, when you riff, when you ad lib, thats who you are, thats your forte. The fact part is what any other ‘blah blah’ reviewer can do. So is there a way to make the fact part more you?

    Cheers, Your Awesome!

  • Gary dropping some serious History Lesson today 😉

Only had two Malbecs….one I cant remember, and a cheap organic Malbec from Saint Julia.

Think this wine was done before from another vintage. Mixing it up is good too, long shows, short shows, guests, Sascha, etc. Cheers!

Had the 2007 which was a WS top 100 wine. Thought the fruit was over cooked.

  • Sev

Big fan of the Kermit Lynch wines. As a value, this Malbec stands out.
QOTD: Bodega Catena Zapata Mendoza Malbec 2007. Plush fruit driven wine. Very food friendly. Good Labor Day red to go with the grilled foods.

  • Happy Labor Day Weekend to everyone! Poor lonely Couch? Need to try more Cahors.

QOTD: I’m going to second Sev on Bodega Catena Zapata Mendoza Malbec, though I also enjoyed the Kaiken as well.

  • SantaBarbara

The show was informative and I enjoyed it very much, but it is too short. I love your 20+ minute shows, even if you don’t talk about wines all the time. I always look forward to watching your shows, it makes me sad when the shows are under 10 minutes…

Good. My kind of wine, totally, The honest, real wine. For sardines, and good, crusty bread. And olives. Wine that makes simple food so good that you don’t even HAVE to have cheese ( like that one?)…
Frankly, I am many years past that whole Argentine Malbec thing – and theress tons of drinkable ones, even at that 10-15 range. (MUCH IS bad, commodified, over manipulated/blended ‘stuff’, though). Amancaya, Clos de la Siete, et al, are much better, and just a few dollars more, so people need to realize the dramatic quality difference available, versus the couple dollars they ‘save’ to drink kindo fo crappy wine. Paul Hobbs Cobos, and his peers will stand by their names, and invested monies. One hopes – I don’t really know what became of Monkey Business, but I understood it to be a restaurant -type vehicle for rather inexpensive, declassified, or not-made-the-grade, sorted out, or whatever, but 10ish? years ago, it was an impressive delivery. Then the entire world, in lock step unison (while we knew it was happening) aped that move… predictable, boring, oversaturated, and over-made wines, w/ no character. They drink good enough, but nothing more than that. Ever.
QotD – you got it in your hand, baby! Cahors. $12- 25, should be comfort zone, and respective quality levels. Dry, Earthy, Real.

  • SniffySmith

Where is Eddie? He usually eats these “goshdarn” things?
Not recently, Clark. He read that squirrels were high in cholesterol – Thank you Christmas Vacation

QOTD – 2006 BR Cohn Olive Hill Estate Malbec

  • thnx so much 🙂

  • funny i was a tad meh on 07 as well just looked at the notes

  • had it a few times

  • yes they def benefit from it Special K!

  • good show, but a little short for me. it would be nice to see at least one more wine from this region for a little comparison action. grrr, i wish i had a bigger selection of french wines in my area. the only malbec ive had is from argentina.

qotd: favorite malbec ive had is gascon malbec from argentina

QOTD — don’t have one, but if I did, it would be a Cahors, not from S America

  • Anonymous

And I thought you were just joking, which wine pairs best with squirrel GV??

  • Anonymous

Too short, but love the knowledge bombs (for those of us not boned up on every AOC or other French region). Waiting for our Verdelho to come in, hopefully it gets here soon. Have to wake up at 5:30 on a saturday, not cool.

QOTD: There was a 50/50 Temp. Malbec blend that was acctually really good (cannot remember the name of it for the life of me, perhaps I should start paying attention to the little details like names places etc.)
