Not a big fan of the short format. I imagine this is what other wine video blogs might be like. Cut down to purely an info show, GV’s personality has no chance to shine, and lets face it, that’s why we watch.

Wow! Love learning about new stuff. I’m gonna go try and find some for the BBQ this afternoon. Nice episode, Gary!

You skipped the best beer show ever!

  • Bigsig

First episode in awhile….like the new format, good quick bits of vin-formation, to sqeeze in, between work and family.

QOTD: Ever since “Hacksaw Jim Dugan stirred up the eggnog” I try to keep a Susana Balbo around…although the Punto Final Riserva is quite delectable as well.

  • Allan

    Hey, that’s right. My bad.

    Cheers!

QOTD: Rare Vineyards Malbec 2009 Pays d’Oc. An excellent fruit driven wine from the Alain Grignon stable

Do you know that “Gascon” is the name of the area between Cahors and Bordeaux, in the South-west of France?

I like the new tighter format…..I really enjoy malbec……Thanks for the info on Cahors….

qotd… no fav, but looking forward to trying the 07 that is in the basement

  • Bill,
I’ll give it a shot. However, your not comparing apples to apples here. Finca Malbec Reserve at $14.00..Luca is double the price.

  • Globex

you got me very interested to try this one. I believe your pops is out of stock on this one so I’ll search online to find it.

QOTD: coincidentally I’m in El Salvador having a 2006 Norton Malbec Reserve while enjoying the cool breeze and sounds of the rain fill the house. I’m not a huge Argentina Malbec fan (I think that may put me in the minority), but it’s what the nanny opened (and my mother-n-law picked out) so I enjoy without complaint.

  • I love Malbecs! Definitely one of my favorite grapes. I will have to find this one in my local wine hangouts. I’m curious to taste the difference between the Argentinine Malbecs and this one from France. PS. Nice spit bucket, Gary. 😉

QOTD: Bodega Catena Malbec Catena – excellent QPR

QOTD: I’m not really a Malbec drinker. It’s kind of heavy for me. I guide my customers toward Septima as an alternative to the Don Miguel Gascon Malbec which flies off the shelf. I once had Gascon and Septima side by side and preferred the Septima. Navarro Correas is another big seller as well as Broquel. Malbec is like a Sideways wine. It’s as if Hollywood or the media has told people to drink it. Customers come in almost robotic asking for malbec and they don’t even know what it is. They were just told they have to drink it. Therefore there is a lot of bad malbec out there with the good malbec crowding the shelves. We are running out of room to display all of the new malbecs.

    Nice, short episode.

    QOTD. I don’t have a favorite Malbec. I admit, it’s a shame.

I like this short format, however, the brown paper bag shows are unbeatable.

I like malbec but agree that sometimes it can get a bit too over the top. Have had some good Argentina and Cahors wines but no favorites (yet…)

I like the tighter format. A little bit of education is always a good thing.

QOTD: Still looking for a favorite, but always have Alamos on hand as an expensive pop-and-drink everyday wine.

I recently had the Trapiche Single Vineyard Domingo F. Sarmiento 2007 at a tasting and have to say that it’s my favourite I’ve tried. Had they actually had it in instead of being a pre-order, I would have been tempted to buy a bottle just so I could sit and smell it for hours, though I wish it was about $20 cheaper (it’s close to $50). Of course, most of the other Malbec I’ve had has been under $15. I don’t have a lot of Malbec in my cellar and tend to enjoy it, so I will have to read through the suggestions here.

    Hello again from Calgary Alberta!

We have had a case of the 2008 Clos Coutale Cahors this year and we like it a lot! we have also tried a French Malbec called Seduction which is very good and earthy.

Right now this week we are trying and liking a Luna 7 Mendoza wine. Chalky big I like it.

Any Spicy Malbecs we tend to like…

not a huge fan of the Malbec.. usually only partake when someone else has brought to the table, heavy handed tannins are not high on my list.

When are you going to have some more contests GV?

Vin Alba Malbec Syrah from Patagonia. It was rated by Decanter as the best international red blend under £10 in the world. It’s exclusive to Asda (Wal-Mart) in the UK and absolutely top-notch, so if there are any Brits out there, give the 2008 vintage a go, I’m not sure if you can get it in the States.

I also decided that I will do this until it happens, that might be forever but I’m not going anywhere:
