Am I really in first? Sad Shonn Greene off to a bad start.

  • Tom

Looks like the first wine link is incorrect.

  • focused show… that Alta Maria seems like it will be a winner for value.

QOTd: not enough knowledge to predict the super bowl.
Best Pinot this year was a bottle of Sea smoke.

  • Superbowl predictions… Titans v. Giants

Have had a surprising number of Pinot Noirs this year… http://norcalwingman.com/?s=pinot+noir (plus went to Pinot Days in SF)

My fave perhaps –> De La Montanya Tina’s Vineyard http://norcalwingman.com/2010/05/14/2007-de-la-montanya-russian-river-valley-pinot-noir-tinas-vineyard/

QOTD: While it’s way to early to be predicting championships I’m going to go ahead and say Patriots vs. Saints just based off of week 1 performances. Houston looked really good though.

P.S. I hope the Jets offense picks up or Shonn Greene and Sanchez are going to be riding my fantasy bench all season.

Cool pinot episode, def enjoyed it. Feel like a real live Vayniac commenting here at the beginning!!!

QOTD: Even though the Jags beat the Broncos, I still gotta pull for Denver baby.
Lived in Israel for most of the year and didn’t have too many pinots, but had one pretty tasty one from the Golan Heights which was kosher and still very attractive for the price point.

Super Bowl prediction: New Orleans vs. Pittsburgh why not?

  • QOTD: I had a 2005 Sanford pinot the other day that was really nice.

    Skins v. Colts… I can dream, right?

    Superbowl: not the lions
    Pinot: Kosta Browne

  • KAHUNA

The Crossbarn think the winecritic here sucks and that it is why it lost the competition- Also the winemaker for The Crossbarn blew out his ACL and can not stomp grapes for the rest of the season.

The Crossbarn’s number 1 fan is going to start twittering like a little crybaby and making fun of other teams winemakers even if those other winemakers have won a Wine Super Bowl Competition.

    So sad to see 🙁

  • decent show

QOTD1: 2004 Cameron Pinot Noir Clos Electrique
QOTD2: Ravens (as long as that offense is clicking, plus they get Ed Reed back week 6)
    VS
    Saints

My Superbowl prediction with 100% certainty: the SF 49ers will NOT be there 🙁

  • QOTD: Super Bowl Prediction, Dallas-NY

Porta Pinot Noir 2007, 2008 have been a top for us this year.

tooooooooo pissed off to make a super bowl prediction right now.

  • dont follow football, so no prediction…

best Pinot of the year was “Highliner” at The Hitching Post in Buellton, California. It was our first visit to the Santa Barabara County area and it was great to stop at several of the locations from the film “Sideways”. A fantastic area that I will definitely return to…

Colts 48 vs Green Bay 45 Adam Venataria Kicks another game winner at the buzzer to win this one for the good guys

I actually came here today for some game breakdown. I want Gary’s opinion of the Jets’ poor and undisciplined offense, but I guess he taped this episode yesterday. So this is my first comment.

    2005 Hartley Ostini Highliner

    Ravens > Packers

Great show Gary! I love it when an unknown brings the thunder. 07 Sojourn Gap’s Crown. Patriots over Vikings. Is there going to be anything happening at Wine Library on Sept. 25 like you mentioned a few weeks ago? I know it’s the day before you head to Miami.

  • Interesting twist. Don’t think i’ve ever seen a head to head via wine ratings. Great idea.

    Green bay all the way.

Benovia 2008 Russian River Valley. They have a few. They’re all bad*ss.

  • Loved 93 point the Pinot showdown today!

QOTD: Houston > Minnesota, and Evesham Wood La Grive Bleue

And Gary when you come to Minnesota for the MIMA conference are you going to bring the thunder anywhere else, I hope so!

The first wine you have linked for this episode is incorrect and is from yesterday’s show.

QOTD: Superbowl- Saints v Jets but it would be exciting to see the Texans in there. Its way too early to predict this. Right now I am just trying to hide my head after that Bears “win.”

  • “What do you smell? (awkward pause) Wine? wine.” (sigh) that brings back fond memories of a fan favorite episode. 😛

QOTD: None and none. I love the morning after game day tshirt.

I am going to do my best to find that Alta Maria, but was it smoke taint or just a toasted head (not the producer) kind of aroma? Either way, a 23 bone Pinot that rips face, can’t pass that up.

    QOTD 1: No clue

QOTD 2: thank you for asking a second QOTD for us loosers who could care less about thre NFL. Fess Parkers Pinot, no question.

  • Rips face. ha. love it. 2 words you would never hear ever from Mr. R. Parker. 🙂

  • QOTD; Eyrie 2004 reserve

Have not had a Pinot in ’10 yet, soon.

Wow. Loss had an affect on ya eh Gary? And with good reason. They looked awful. Atrocious. What would you rate them at on a 99 point scale? That performance last night was like drinking a 100 degree glass of Yellow Tail Merlot in a stinky subway car.

    The alta maria sounds great.
05′ Nuits St George 1er Cru from Albert Bichot. Great value for burgundy and delivering the old world promise.

    canceled

  • LOVE the Pinot episodes… BRING IT!!!

QOTD: Lot’s of Sea Smoke in the comments so far… for me, ’05 Southing, ’05 Ten a close second… SBowl? Colts…

I dunno, but I think I saw you spit ON the Jets helmet
QOTD? As I don’t really give a squat about professional football, I’m going to bend the question, and say CAPS.
And, (while I don’t do a lot a Pino), I’m going with Pepperwood.

People get kind of crazy about this producer…but everything I’ve heard about it leads me to think it’s not really going to remind me of Pinot Noir if I were to taste it blind. It strikes me as a “big” Pinot…and I think I tend to fall more in the “delicate and reserved” style when it comes to what I look for. However…it would be pretty cool to get a chance to taste it someday.

QOTD: I’ve been lucky to have some really great Pinots this year…to include a ’96 Clos Vougeot…but my favorite this year has to be the 2004 Patricia Green Cellars Pinot Noir Estate Etzel Block. A monumental bottle of wine…that always blows my socks off.

  • No superbowl prediction…I just don’t feel it this year!

QOTD: ’07 Laetitia La Colline Single Vineyard, Pinot Noir, but it always tastes better when your at the winery. I also liked the Alma Rosa PN St. Rita Hills ’07.

    No FB prediction.

QOTD: Chalone Vineyard Estate Grown — can’t remember the year off hand (06?). Very tasty.

Well, the 49ers looked promising in the pre-season…but after that first game against the Seahawks…one must wonder if the gold is real or plated:) As for the the wine-side of QOTD – Saintsbury 2007 Carneros Pinot Noir Lee Vineyard Had it over Labor Day, and enjoying it right now. Maybe a bit young, but showing great balance. As Mr. Miyagi said in the movie Karate Kid…Balance, Daniel Son, Balance! One of the great films of the 80’s and a great piece of advice for wine makers!
