Good show, I liked the guest. She didn’t try to pretend that she knew more than she actually did.

This bothers me to no end. I’m in total agreement. We’re supposed to trust GV on wine, but he’s the guy that makes numerous promises he doesn’t keep. #JustSayin’

  • TheSmirkingLurker

    GV:
Despite the Fame 2.0, you’re losing credibility. Your mouth is writing checks that your show is not cashing, at least not much any more.

  • TheSmirkingLurker

What we’re all witnessing here is the ball, ever so slowly, being dropped. More checks are being written that aren’t being cashed (“only 5 more guests,” anyone?), and the new-show-per-week ratio has dropped to what appears to be an all time low. We all wanted to believe it wouldn’t happen. But face it. It has happened. The branding, the books, the tv, the radio… The internets? That’s was so 2008.

  • TheSmirkingLurker

    GV:
You’ve just responded to the above email. Look, it’s not a knock on your character. It’s not. It’s just that your values are changing. The above comment isn’t meant to call into question whether you’re a good guy. I’m sure you are. It’s not personal. But, it is meant to say, “Hey look: Gary’s values are changing.” How can one be sure? Look not at what Gary says, or promises, or claims. Look at what Gary does. And, what Gary does is qualitatively different than what it used to be. He doesn’t record nearly as many shows. The shows are not nearly as well planned out. There’s not nearly as much energy invested into them (Go back and what one of the early pairing / training your palette shows to see this super clearly – after all, that’s a schtick you took on the road with you to many a late-night program), etc. Again, this is just how you’re evolving. It’s Gary 2.0. And that’s cool. But instead of saying, “Guys, I’m listening to you, and I respect and care, etc., etc., etc.,”, just say, “Guys, this is how I’m doing things now…” It would restore the truthiness.

  • I respect your thoughts and I am trying, i am def being pulled in different directions but my commitment to the community is the same, I have been realizing the things u see and am working towards some solutions, also life gets in the way, I was to tape on Monday but became ill, but no excuses, I will really try to step up for you man, I did the show hardcore everyday for 4 str8 years and I am not planning on stopping, being off on how many guests for the rest of the year is not something I am super worried about, I mean thats a technicality and I am also trying to do whats right for the show in my opinion…Thnx for caring enough to even comment in the 1st place and I appreciate your thoughts man!

  • I am so sorry guys, I am trying, this week got screwed up!

Seems like an appropriate time to post for first time – just started watching last week and think the show’s brilliant. Been catching up through the archive. You’ve completely triggered my interest in the subject (consider me struggling to get a total beginner). I’ve already been talking to my friends about it, and am considering an informal wine tasting night when the time is right. You come across really genuinely, and the tone of the show is just right (one of the most important things). In my opinion as long as the format is fresh re:number of wines, guests, surprises, subject etc, it’s all good. I’m in the UK and don’t get all the US culture references, but it doesn’t matter.

Just wanted to say ‘cheers much’.

    PS. In…real…football…you…don’t…use…your…feet… 🙂

Everyone repeat after me: “Gary is sorry.” Maybe it is time to renew that one, GV.

  • Anonymous

Whatever you do, fella, do it with Mischa.

  • Grill Factor

GV, some things never change – folks were all over your case after show 481 (the blind tasting that never was) as well . I started watching at 600 or so and have gone back to watch 1 – 599. You seem like the same dude to me, just busier…Thanks for your efforts

  • Don Simpson

I thought this week was supposed to bring the Thunder? Lets get some Thunder actiion going!!! I’m looking forward to seeing how excited Gary is after the Jets beat the Pats!

  • I figured after the Jets beating the Patriots there would be a show by now bragging about your boys???? Bring the Thunder !!!

  • I figured after the Jets beating the Patriots there would be a show by now bragging about your boys???? Bring the Thunder !!!

  • LurkerKing

Don’t worry your local lurker union is still going to be cashing your checks. This I can guarantee!

  • LurkerKing

Attention lurkers. There will be a lurker meeting this Friday. The time and location are anonymous. Refreshments will be served. Please show your lurker badge at the door.

    Gracias,

    El Presidente

  • LurkerKing

PS we were going to watch the latest wine library TV, but apparently we’ll be watching re-runs followed by MASH.

QOTD: How about salty AND sweet… like chocolate-covered potato chips or pretzels.

  • BP

Hey GV, if you’re going to have a guest, at least spell her name correctly in the episode title. Baaaaad host!

Cut and paste this into the episode title РSpecial Guest Maril̩ Borden РEpisode #920

That little ‘accent acute’ is a little thing but missing it can get your face slapped – from experience I know!

    QOTD – Salty

  • Just Jack

I love it at 6:37 when they both have the sippy cups straight up in the air sucking for all they’re worth. Just a classic picture. Seems like a nice, decent sensible guest. I do believe that she deserves to be on, because she is working the Crush It system (Whether she read the book or not) and proving that you can build a community around anything at all that you are passionate about. We all need to hear a little testimony once in a while. I know it helps keep me motivated!

QOTD: I think that too much sweet is boring. A well lived life needs to err a bit on the salty side.

  • Just Jack

    lol

That guy was at the 7/10 Wine party taking photos. Never saw his pics though.

I agree. I’m definately not trying to take anything away from that, it’s just not my kind of show. The fact that a lot of mothers has fun with wine because of the lovely Marile Borden, just doesn’t make the show interesting enough for me. I am not part of the wine community (nor am I planning to be), and so the only reason for me to get off on this would be for her to introduce wines that mommies/housewife would not have bought in the first place. Her enterprice is more one of directing the marked, instead of changing it. And this is fine. I wish her all the best. And you too, Castello. It’s great how you’re always here.

    Cheers, Kasper

This episode was meh at best, but still good to see you getting shows out.

QOTD – definitely salty. Salt is unbeatable.

  • Good epi, nice to see the moms come out for a little while.

    QOTD: Sweet and Salty.

  • Allan

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for serveral days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Salty with a little sweet chaser.

Enjoyed the show. Glad to see there was a wine you could sink your teeth into at the end. Didn’t get what the “Bandit” was all about. Dad coming in towards the end kinda through you off.

  • Really MEH.

    QOTD: Sweet

  • Oakmon’s BF

That ship has sailed unless you?re hoping he?ll do a reenactment of his excitement.

  • Anonymous

Brought the Bandit because it’s like a wine “juice box” (us moms love that idea!). But, whoops, forgot to mention it.

  • Anonymous

QOTD – there is a time and a place for both, but if I had to pick one, sweet.

  • LurkerKing

Whatcha gonna dooooo when Lurk-A-Mania runs wild over you brotherrrrr!

  • Anonymous

The only thing worse than watching this episode is looking at its little picture everyday, new episode please.

  • Anonymous

Not trying to jump on the GV bandwagon, but if it needs a driver I will take the reins. It seems to me you have passion to spare, and if you give half of the energy you put into most everything you do that is enough for me. Keep Crushing, I’ll keep watching regardless; and I have a feeling I am not alone. That being said, more THUNDER please.

For the french speaking winos out there. This is a much better looking video blog. Please send me an interpreter.

Its still here! episode 920 is nightmare!

  • Like the guests and like the wine nerd episodes – all good.

QOTD – Sweet and salty – like foi gras with plums and crunchy sea salt (sour, too). If pressed, however, salty rules the day.

  • Allan

    The Vaynernation is in attack-mode! ! WATCH OUT. GRRRRRRRRR…! ! !

Come on everybody, give GV a break. Has anybody seen mr Mott? ? What happend to that guy…. he can’t be on vacation still…. ?

  • Jeremy

Sweet Moses! I wish to never know what she is saying! She could be reviewing Franzia and to my ears I would only hear the most perfect description of Lafite!

  • Anonymous

It seems pretty decent. The woman matches GV’s enthusiasm, and she knows what she’s talking about. Unfortunately, it’s in French, it’s completely formulaic (explain region, explain wine, explain nose, explain taste) without any of the personal touch which makes WLTV so enjoyable, and its regular updates are almost as few and far between as WLTV’s have been lately.

  • Anonymous

I don’t know, man. The show has been pretty rough lately. Between the five minute cop outs and the complete lapses in any new episodes at all, we’ve really only seen four episodes so far this month. It’s hard to give him a break when there’s no communication happening; he keeps claiming he can maintain the quality of the show on top of all his other commitments, but if you look at the evidence that simply doesn’t seem to be the case. If he can’t do it, he can’t do it. He has a lot of obligations and no one blames him for that, but a lot of the frustration comes from being left in the dark about it. People would be disappointed if he said he had to change the way he does the show, but at least then we’d know about it.Maybe this is a fluke and October will be classic WLTV, but I’ll believe it when I see it.

  • Anonymous

If there is no new episode today I will perform an “upper decker” at Wine Library.

  • Anonymous

So that means I can learn French from watching? Thanks.

  • Anonymous

We knew he was spread thin but now he’s vaporized.

  • NY Pete

looks like you will be jumping … 🙂

  • I need some new content!

  • TheSmirkingLurker

    I’ll be there…. smirking…

  • Jay

Perhaps there’s a new format: Instead of ~6 shows spread out over two weeks, 4-5 shows in one week, then a week off. 🙂

  • Jay

That’s not what an Upper Decker means lol.

  • Anonymous

I get it now. Gary found a way to bring his comment numbers up. The number was at about 125 a day after this episode, now, after the long delay, there are close to 200 comments.

  • Haha I think you are onto something. Maybe his new show is taking precedence? ; )

Whatever the issue I need more wltv, it is almost Friday and I new recommendations.
