90/100

line of the day – ‘If we wore the same make up like Kiss, me and Mott would look the same.’

Just because the wines suck doesn’t mean the episode does. I enjoyed it.

    ill take top 5

  • Violetruby

I’ve been hashing through our wine stash now that I can drink again and opened up the 2003 Nicholas Cole Camille blend from some sort of Gary/WLTV pack, but had to let it decant a bit, so we’ll be finishing that off!

  • Allan

    Top 10 then

My oldest daughter turns the BIG 13 today. . . costume birthday party for her tomorrow. . . good bottle of Pinot (most likely) for my wife and I to celebrate our accomplishment in raising a very beautiful, intelligent and wonderful daughter!

  • Alcohol plans… good question. Maybe the bottle of not-all-too-common Yiron Syrah ’04 from Galil (Israel). The guy who sold it to me may have thrown in a 10% discount because I told him I’d get back to him with my opinion.

Beyond that, not sure… got some runnin’ to do this weekend as I prepare to be the only person to run the NY Marathon wearing a VaynerNation wrist band…

OR NOT THE ONLY ONE?!?! Anyone else???

  • Dharlow4

I agree, there are a boatload of 90 pt worthy Shiraz for $12-15, that are better than your 2 wines today. This weekend? Go Jets and Yankees, while sipping on a nice Malbec.

QOTD: Finish of some Guinness in the fridge. Then go get some New Belgium Hoptober. Its that time of the year again.

Gary, you coming to denver for the game?

  • Anonymous

QOTD — just a regular red weekend!

My daughter turns the BIG 13 today! Costume birthday party tomorrow. My wife and I will celebrate our oldest’s birthday with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir (most likely!)

  • This weekend will be a whole mix of things. Getting together with a buddy tonight that I haven’t seen in a while. Probably have a little scotch and a few barley pops with him. Saturday will probably be some wine with the lady, maybe an Aussie Shiraz and a CA chradonnay thanks to these episodes. Sunday I’m working out at the tasting room so a little bit of wine that day as well.

  • Allan

    Good show.

Qotd: A glass of milk or two.

    Cheers! 😛

Gary – I’m not sure that you even like Syrah. Can you give us an example of one that you enjoy? Not Hermitage, either, please; something affordable.

QOTD: I’m looking forward to watching the Phillies play SF Saturday night. Should be a good series, hopefully the Fightin’ Phils will emerge victorious. We’ll be celebrating the wife’s birthday, so a little Brut Rose may be in order.

  • Jcha24

Beer tonight, walker on the rocks at a wedding tomorrow, and barbaresco on sunday. JMaS ❗

  • Kyle

The Syrah plays not bringing the thunder!

QOTD: Currently drinking a Syrah from the Limari valley in Chile – nothing massively impressive at £10 it’s a good value everyday wine.

    This weekend…..a 3rd date tomorrow…she’s a champagne typa gal…more London adventures…

Gary – love the show as always

  • Allan

    Jets 16 – Broncos 26, sorry G

  • Globex

nice job guessing in the blind which were the U.S. wines this week, you’re on a roll.

QOTD: after the market closes and done with journal, Bombay Sapphire on ice with entire lime squeezed in, let sit for 15 minutes & then enjoy! The wife is at a winery/resort with girlfriend so I’ll be alone til late afternoon which allows ME to pick out the wine from cellar for dinner… and I am NOT picking anything even close to being fruity and/or sweet (done with the summer thing!). Will search the cellar for a red from Kermit Lynch. On Saturday LSU is playing a school they’ve never played before (McNeese St.) which I’ll enjoy Sierra Nevada beer during the game. On Sunday morning on the island we’ll be having Mimosa.

  • 2% or soy…?

  • Anonymous

QOTD: going to a good beer bar for a bit tonight. Might warm up with a little wine….not sure what. The rack is kinda bare; I might have to raid “the cellar” (basement).

Saturday. OSU vs Wisconsin. Should be a good game. Hopefully the Bucks pull it out. Probably be drinking PBR.

  • Pirata Cofresi

Great show G! Love the shirt, very nice!

Nice episode, short and sweet, to the point.

I totally agree with Syrah/Shiraz. I am not drinking that stuff right now, only in blends. With the exception of the Grange that I am about to try for the first time, as the price was a steal.

QOTD: I found a 2001 Penfolds Grange for 82 bones and 5 bottles 2002 Sassicaia for 30 bones ea. (I know! A terrible year but, hey still Sassicaia!!! What do you think bro?

By the way, NO RESPONSE FROM YOU YET!!! BRO… COME OONNN!! I am leaving Wednesday flying to NYC to then fly to Milano, arriving Thursday in Tuscana, staying with Fonterutoli, but still need a HOOK UP, for Fontodi and Felsina. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! DO SOMETHING FOR A DESPERATE VAYNIACK!!! I CHALLENGE YOU TO WORK YOUR MAGIC!!!

    Please

  • Pirata Cofresi

    Sorry! TOSCANA

all about the phillies this weekend. probably lots of burgundy/champagne mixed in throughout.

getting harder and harder to find cali syrah that has any balance whatsoever these days. certain producers in the northern reaches of the state are doing some really interesting things. Copain’s wines have taken a step back to a more traditional Northern Rhone style which was great to see.

more brown bags per episodes would be my only thought for the future…i think it’s relatively straightforward when it’s head-to-head.

    all the best,
    Matt

  • Gary on point as usual
QOTD: Weekend plans is a 30+ hour drive, so maybe not too much alcohol

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I had a belgian beer, and a small rum this evening, nothing spectacular.
By the way, don’t a guy who talks all the time about internet and interaction answer e-mails 😉
    I like this weeks format

  • didovino

Sad to see that kind of showing for such a great varietal as Syrah. A good syrah should taste: elegant, little gamy, a touch of spice, finishing fresh and lively….yum !
You have to try that “S de Siroua” Moroccan wine as we blind tasted Jean Luc Colombo and R. Betts and they couldn’t believe how good it was at 16$ !

  • Anonymous

Nice show. Sorry about the disappointment. I have had those before at the wine shop, where I had my taste and could swear it should be a Port/Dessert wine.

QOTD: Vino tonight, probably some stuff from Lodi, as my uncle just visited there and we will be with him. Tomorrow Beer, Alaskan Amber, for the SC football game. And Sunday is a toss up.

btw…I’m with Thomas_DK, get this nice email, offering “if you’re going to wine country, don’t go without telling us…” So I respond and now the trip is fast approaching and, “chirp chirp chirp”, crickets. Luckily the Vayniacs in the WLTV Forum are coming through!

qotd.. looking forward to another shocking Chiefs victory drinking whatever I have on hand

  • Just ordered the Amavi Cab, but probably sticking to the Spainish Temp that I have in the basement this weekend. Might watch NC State play ECU & plant some garlic.

  • Scotland123

QOTD: I’m having a blind tasting with a bunch of friends this weekend. 12 people, 3 reds and 3 whites in the $25 – $30 price range. Should be a lot of fun.

Gary, ever since I started watching your show I have become a huge Jets fan. Thank you. Who is your favorite player? I think I’m gonna have to go with Revis. Get well soon!

  • Dusanmal

QOTD: This weekend going to the most worthy food festival in a year… Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay NY (Long Island). Oysters, chowders, zeppole,… On drinking side, mostly beer – after all it is outside open market festival, grab-an-go. For those near by (NYC, GaryVee?): http://www.theoysterfestival.org/
    11am-6pm Sat&Sun.

  • TitanicTrojan

QOTD: Depends on the outcome of tomorrow’s USC vs. Cal game. If SC wins, I’ll pop a Shafer Relentless (which is 85% Syrah and an awesome wine every year); if SC loses, I’ll drown myself in a Bogle Petite Sirah.

  • Andrew (Australia)

QOTD: Playing a poker night with a few friends and some red. Trying my first Malbec – a wine not big in Australia, but Ive heard a bit about it from Gary.

QOTD: I’ve got quite the weekend planned-
Tonight: It’s the kickoff of Cleveland Beer Week, and I’ll be leaving in about an hour for a wine vs beer pairing dinner, featuring the food of Michael Symon, wine pairings from Marianne Franz (WLTV guest from the Browns Stadium show, I think ep 530?) and the legendary Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head. Should be fascinating!

Tomorrow: OSU-Wisconsin! Lots of wine and/or beer during the game, depending on what impresses me more tonight (I usually default to beer during football games, but I’ll likely need to balance the fact that it’s beer week with some wine)

Sunday: Depends on what games are on and/or how much damage I’ve done in the next 30 hours!

  • ED R

QOTD: work, kids soccer, work,no vino til Tuesday. Working nights gives my liver a break.

I had Marquis Phillips Shiraz #9…the ’06, a couple years ago. At the time, I kinda liked it. Had a ridiculous amount of dark chocolate and espresso on the finish, though, and was waaaay over the top. My favorite Syrah is definitely the more restrained, mineral, spice driven style. I’ve had some good Oregon and Washington Syrah along those lines.

QOTD: who knows, yet? I’ve got Petraio Nero d’Avola and La Griveliere Cotes du Rhone waiting at home, maybe grab a six pack of dark beer for a game night Saturday.

  • TitanicTrojan

Gary gave good reviews to Tensley (Ep. #141) and Wind Gap (Ep. #837) syrahs just to name a couple.

  • Carlo

I’ll be watching Big Ben and the Steelers bring it again on Sunday…sipping on a gingerale… currently on an alcohol free “fast” until Thanksgiving…still lovin the show though !

  • Gubbiotti

syrah / shiraz is tuff duty. i think almost everything that i have had from australia and cali has had me thinking that it was a cocktail. now, n. rhone… that is another story. the bottles that i had from gonon have turned me into a n rhone junky.
weekend – tonight, i have some lalande du pomerol, o5 that is doing alright. not closed up, but in 5, this will be sweet! i think i have to buy some more for the cellar.
sunday, friends are coming over and we might need to open something good

GV great week of shows, loved the USA vs. the World, head-to-head, blind format. Loved the fact that your ADD didn’t take over and you stayed with it the whole week. Hope that we see a week of shows like this again.

QOTD: Plan on cracking open a bottle of red and watching game 1 of the ALCS, go Yanks!

    P.S.
Since you’re always giving a weekly JETS prediction can we get Mott to give a GIANTS prediction as well. They share a stadium, share the love.

  • Eirikpm

QOTD: Today I drank “la Larme d`or Chabils 2008” together with lobster. It was allright. Tomorrow (saturday) I`m eating lamb, and drinking a bottle of bordeaux togehter with my family and girlfriend! 😀

  • Anonymous

I agree with you Gary. I don’t like where Cali and Aussie syrahs/shiraz are going right now. I am so “old world” right now that I don’t even want to drink anything “new world”. QOTD: I’m gonna watch the Steelers game and the Jets game this weekend. I’m gonna open a couple bottles of the 05 Shardana for my friends and watch them freak.

  • NeilMc

Yeah that’s it, I’m going to buy a bottle of Kendall Jacksin VR Chardonnay and go over to a relative’s house to stick it to them…..

Actually, Going to sample an Anderson’s Conn Valley Russian River Pinot Noir that I bought for a song from the winery. GO SF GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • QOTD: Well I will be racking the latest batch of my mead, so I guess that is what I will be having this weekend. I will also be starting to make four new batches, two batches of blueberry mead, apple cider mead using french oak chips and a show mead also using french oak chips. I will post more details on my blog: http://celestialmead.wordpress.com

  • TheSmirkingLurker

Yeah…. Boo hiss this sort of Syrah. Let’s put an end to it.
A chilly fall weekend in New England calls for a hearty beef stew and a few nice bottles of red – Cahors, Bordeaux, and Burgundy.
    Rock On.

  • SniffySmith

American vs. Aussie Syrah? That’s like the steel cage, no holds barred version of fruit bombs.

QOTD: Lots of sports this weekend. To me, sports = BEER. Got the Giants kicking off the NLCS and the Sharks home opener on Saturday, followed by the battle of the bay (Niners vs. Raiders) on Sunday. Probably going to get some Lagunitas IPA, Anchor Steam, and GordonBiersch Festbeer. Keeping it local in support of my local teams.

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

  • QOTD: Watching the Pats destroy Baltimore (hopefully) and drinking a six pack of Kona Pipeline Porter
