Great show, Gary. Always nice to see the laid back couch. Isn’t it about time the whole screwcap fad went away though? They’re fine for wines you drink out of a paper bag, but c’mon, good wine deserves a cork.

QOTD: Blind tastings, particularly of Central Coast Cali wines. Pasa Robles, anyone?

  • Very good shows this week !

QOTD: Double blind tastings and maybe some more US wine shows and East Coast in particular.

Oh, I don’t know Gary, Surprise me. You’ve be doing that for the pass 937 episodes. I like the couch and feel relaxed, with the twist top Prosecco. Great show and great week.

    Long live the couch!
QOTD: The ‘other 47’ A New York day, an Arizona day, a Virginia day… hopefully trying some of the varietals indigenous to America such as Concord, Catawba, Delaware, which in nine hundred and thirty eight shows have NEVER been seen on WLTV!!!

  • oklahomamichael

QOTD-Austrian whites?? I’ve had quite a few this summer and there are unfortunately not very many good QPR. Maybe you could find a couple. Ps. best wine for the return to the laid back couch

  • morty

Bourbon! Do a show on bourbon.
Also, do a show on wines that you drink in your personal time. An everyday type of drinker, an out to dinner wine, and maybe something you like thatd surprise the vayniacs.
    cool huh?

  • I want to see what your like on 8hrs of sleep. I’m just curious.

  • morty

how bout an mtv cribs of your house and wine rack/cellar/whatever. a more insiders view of gary

  • Couch FTW! Great to have it back.

QOTD: Aside from johnfarrin’s suggestion of the “revisit” series, I would love to see a Domestic Sparkler or Cava show, or some terroir “off the beaten path.”

  • cybertlh

QOTD: How about a Sonoma vs Napa show. Varietal head to head. Cab, Merlot, blends… The cost is the question…

  • Bicky

Can you please make that popping sound again?

  • You know I associate Prosecco with any excuse my Italian clients have to celebrate, they always have a pretext to celebrate, whether it’s Moto GP, F1, Soccer, Opera, a Thursday afternoon, etc, Prosecco is never far from a weekend. I actually like it.

QOTD: it would be great if you could dedicate time to off-centre varietals or regions, or finally do an episode on Mexican Wines ( the whole range ).

  • How about a series of episodes on emerging trends in the wine world: new varietals that are going to be hot, big wineries doing something interesting, small regions about to pop, new wineries with thunder, etc. You heard it hear on WLTV first!

  • Jasonbcarey

Its Frizzannte not spumante.. so less bubbles..

  • ben from boston

THE COUCH! YES! its about time. love laid back fridays.

qotd – more sparkling wines… maybe fall specific sparkling wines, if such a thing exists.

Hey Gary. Great to see the couch back in business!

QOTD: Double Blind. I love when you are able (and sometimes unable) to correctly predict the grape/region. Keep it up!

    Rob

  • Jrr64

It sounds like a good inexpensive bubbly and will give it a try.

QOTD: Blind tasting of three red blends from California, Washington and Spain.

  • Prod

QOTD: Friendly double blind competition among WL employees

Do a whole week on the outstanding eiswein coming out of the central Antartic…specifically the South Pole AVA.

Gary, I would like to see you do a Judgement in Paris sort of episode. Could be interesting, Canada vs US maybe?

  • Gobuffalo

    great show

  • Ben Janssen South Australia

QOTD: Super question – a thought I have had for some time. You mention K-Murph picking some wines and the other people you directly work with. How about getting the ‘crew’ in and run through some wines all together. Maybe something none of yourselves have had before.
ACTUALLY how about a blind tasting and 2/3 wines that someone from the shop floor can pick. We can all see you test your metal then.

  • A very nice way to end a great week of shows Gary!

Here is my predictions for the next week:

    – go Campania: show us some for instance some high end Aglianico or some fine Fiano’s
    – go Appulia: Primitivo is hot out of the area!
    – (as always) go German: give us some good Pinot / redwine sh!t from my homeland
    – go Carmeros: I had some great Pinot out of this area as well in the last half a year
    – go sweet(!) Riesling: you NEVER had a Beerenauslese or Trockenbeerenauslese on the show!!!
    – go Margret River Oz: show us some cool climate reds from down under

Thanks for picking at least one Gary 😉

Hey Gary, very cool! Prosecco on the layed-back Friday couch – nice!

As others may point out, this is a Frizzante or a lightly sparkling wine. It has nowhere near the pressure/pop or bubbles of full sparklers(in Prosecco’s case, a Spumante), which is typically at about 6 atmospheres or about 90 psi!

That’s why full sparklers can easily knock your eye out, and are in the heavier, thick- walled bottles with wire cages on them for safety reasons.

It was pretty funny watching you gingerly open that, with you wondering if perhaps it may blow the cap out of your hands and bean Mott on the head or something!

    Hey, all in fun….

QOTD: Pick out some other frizzantes’ and brown bag ’em!

  • QOTD: Oregon, Sonoma and Central Coast/Santa Barbara.

  • Good lazy friday. Screw cap sparkling? Got a friend that always take a gals of sparkling on friday nights.
QOTD: Young vs Old wine in general, aka verticals 2,6,10 year old wine from same producer or something.

  • Eastern block Austria?

  • Stephan

Good way to start the weekend, I love Prosecco, can’t find so many good ones in the US yet, also more expensive than Europe, where it is more an everyday Aperitivo thing…
Go Alto Adige next (it has been a while!), it is still Italy and great whites you will enjoy and some interesting reds from high up like Lagrein…

  • Happyhank24

long time lurker first poster id like to see u do more reds under 15 that have not been reviwed b4 we all know if robert parker or jay miller gives it a 90 its good but they cant review them all and id like to see u do some more wine that u carry that have not been revied so i know weather to pick it up on my next order instead of just looking to see what they gave it

  • Chris Kuhlman

    Hey Gary,
Post from The Netherlands. Last week I?ve drank Chateau Reignac 2005 (AC Bordeaux). On Youtube Chateau Reignac 2001 smashed the great ones from the Bordeaux in a blind tasting (Petrus, Lafite etc.). The 2005 is a very good wine, but I don?t know if it is great wine. Something for your show?
    Chris Kuhlman

  • Nice, quiet show to round off a fun and exciting week. I do need the romance when opening a sparkling wine whether it be Prosecco or Champagne, esp if its the “real thang.”

QOTD: How about wines from Tasmania, esp the sparklings? I’ve read they are amazing.

No football this weekend for you and me. 🙁

    Cheers!

  • Allan

“You saw me crying in the chapel
the tears i cried were tears of joy…”

LOVE THE COUCH!!!!! Always joyous. Thanks for bringing it back 😛

Prosecco with a screwcap, well there you go, interesting stuff indeed…

Qotd: Celebrate WLTV and let’s have a whole week of nothing but guests from your team…

    Monday: K-Murph.
    Tuesday: Ian.
    Wednesday: Justin N.
    Thursday: Sasha V.
Friday: Chris Mott on the couch.

Or, just brown-bags QPR all week, will do as well. But if i know you well enough, you’ll probably have something up your sleeve……. Have a great weekend as well G & Vayniacs.

    And Cheers!

  • Allan

Whatever happend to that castello-fello? 😛

  • philoxera

  • Allan

    Can i say i TOOOOOOTAAAALLLLLLLLLLLYYYY AGGGGRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEE!!!!! 😛

  • Allan

I need to see some Trappist beers on the show before we reach #1000!

  • Allan

Also think Whiskey; Would adore seeing you try your palate with some Ardbeg, Laphroiag or Lagavulin…. could be great fun for all….. 😛

  • Ok, they are not, but I wanted to throw them in there because I hear they have good wine. Oh Melba, trying to re-write European History because of her prideful, shallow taste buds.:)

  • Anonymous

QOTD – I like shows where you educate us on a wine or a region that we may not know much about.

  • Hotspur75

Hey Gary! How about Slovenia? Maybe Austria? Or some Porto?
    Best wishes!

  • scottEJ

Good to see the LBC in action once again. Screw tops and fake cork is taking over. Blech!!!

QOTD: American Cab. Franc. Culty Paso Wines. Discuss the 2008 Cali. Pinots from different regions – it got a bad rap, but, would like something more than just negative hype.

    As always, Thanks, G.

  • Meh.

QOTD: Controversial wines, like Musar, Zind, Pichler, Joly, where you either like em or hate em.

  • castello

    I’m late!

  • philoxera

Is it Frizzante or Spumante? Frizzante has a lower CO2 pressure but is just as good

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I would love to see you continue with this Italian wine trend! Would love to see some more under the radar varietals from southern or central Italy! Or I would love to see you delve into the Rhone valley a little bit.

  • the frizzante has less pressure thats why don t make big noise! jaja

  • Anonymous

It looks like the bottle said “frizzante” which is strange because prosecco is usually a spumante wine.
