Super, super, super pumped GV before an important Jets game, and it comes across in the episode which is pure quality. As the great man would say…Kudos

Never had the LA Cetto Chardonay, but their Nebbiolo is really good and always a crowd pleaser at my wine tastings. I too, am a fan of many of the Baja wines I have tried.

I like your pick, im gonna copy it and go with 31-20. losing leonhard was huge indeed, i look for big games from the NE rookie TEs, and of course the great DANNY WOODHEAD!!!

qotd – been drinking lots of brandy in the cold weather, but i definitely had some white wine over thanksgiving.

  • Anonymous

just noticed. only 3 away from 1000. word.

Sure, I’ll drink white in the winter, red in the summer. In fact, recently tried a Verdicchio having seen it on WLTV. My people are from the same area of Italy, so I had to.(I liked it a lot)

As for the game, I’m afraid Brady and Welker will do the Jets in.

    28-24 JETS!

  • NY Pete

I’m worried about losing #36 too … but … snap out of it will ya GV!

Thanks for the show Gary. Nice to see California taking their foot of the oak pedal as of late. QOTD: The season has little influence on what I drink (albeit port gets a little more attention from me during the coldest months). It’s what’s on the menu that dictates my wine choices, so white wine shows up on the dinner table often throughout the entire year.

  • As requested. saying hey. Hey! White wine when it’s cooler… Sure! I’m equal opportunity. 🙂

My heart says the Jets play as well as they need to, so, Jets 24, Pats 20. Not so worried about the Jets secondary, think they are pretty deep there (played well without Revis for the first part of the season).
Still drinking some white, enjoyed some with the turkey and looking forward to some bubbles over the holidays. Maybe just different styles.

QOTD- Yes, we drink white wines in the winter especially sparklers with sushi.

    Jets-24 Pats-17

Did you really just reference Wreckx-N-Effect “Rump Shaker”???? LOL. awesome.

  • NJ Big Chris

for those of you who don’t know what I’m talking watch what gary says around 2:45 – 2:55.

    see this for reference http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKKONgfNONU

  • Gary…… Hey. Interesting tasting. Over in the UK it is hard to find any decent, affordable Californian chards, I guess you keep the best over in the States. This show has got me in the mood to hunt out some and give them a go.
Yeh I drink white and red any time of the year. When it comes to beers though I have my winter, dark ales and in summer the lighter, crisper pilsners and lagers.
    Thanks again for the shows.
    Pete

    Buh-Rown Fuh-Reaking Bagz!!
    🙂
    Now to watch…

Both white and red…even rose…for all seasons. The food is the decision maker for what we drink….had Vouvray both yesterday and today:-)

  • I am not a white wine drinker, and I think the pats win 34-21

  • Anonymous

Hey Gary – you bet I drink whites this time of the year. I just finished a couple bottles of Riesling, and plan to get to a bottle of Champagne soon. Thanks for another great show.

  • Anonymous

I was just drinking a Niagara Riesling yesterday. Still enjoy white wine on occasion, even when it’s -15-20oC as it’s been where I live. All about what mood my wife and I are in on a given day. Think we’ll need to give the Chalone a try.

    Prediction: Jets 21 Patriots 17

  • NJ Big Chris

Hey… good show GV as always. I definitely am Drinking a lot more red this time of year but I drink white all year round. However, I prefer sweeter wines in colder weather. Chard in the summer. Auslese in the winter. I don’t know why….

    QOTD; You buyin? I’m drinkin.

NorCal wins another brown bag. A trend?

I it just me or isn’t Baja a HUGE desert?

Hey! Good episode, will look for the Chalone and the Evening Land. I really enjoy the blind tasting episodes. I learn a great deal with them.

QOTD – I drink white wine all the time, just finished a Gruner Veltliner earlier this evening and loved it.

The impact of this progran has been for me to learn to enjoy all wines all the time.

  • Randall

Great show. I’ve liked Shao-lin’s 😉 wines for a long time. Usually they don’t hit it outta the park, but as a fairly inexpensive producer, they have been pretty solid in several grapes.

QOTD: Funny you should ask… As a big red wine fan, I usually drink about 4 or 5 reds for every white, but lately I’ve been telling everyone who will listen that this year I’ve drank more white wine than I had, combined, in the last 5 years or so. And I’ve been on a huge dessert wine kick as well…
Anyway, the food is what decides the vino for me. But, yes, I do tend towards bigger, darker wines and ales in the winter. It’s not written in stone, though.

  • Hey! WB GV and crew! I think KMurph is being a trickster fo’ sure.

QOTD: Not often…usually I will stick to reds, though if I do have a white, it’s normally fuller-bodied…I love the warming quality during the cold months.

  • Hey Gary. Long time watcher, first time commenting. I came into the wine game drinking whites like sauvignon blancs and chards and since then I’ve changed to pinots and bordeauxs a lot. But I still love a good creamy chard, even in the winter. But I’ll take a brut blanc du blanc anytime, year round! Keep up the awesome show and thanks for inspiring a young wino.

  • Go Jets! haha jk.

“No school lunch today I’m brown baggin’ it” – Name that song, old school hip-hop fans!

QOTD: Any time is a good time for white wine! I don’t seasonally discriminate, however, when it’s 900 degrees out, bordeaux is usually not on my mind. I just had a Kung Fu Girl Resiling (props to Charles Smith!) the other night and it was seriously tasty juice.

I don’t think I’ve ever had any vino de Mexico, but I’m open to any suggestions from fellow vayniacs.

You should combine your white wine and dessert wine trend and go with Sauternes. Pricey, but worth checking out.

  • Anonymous

Yes, I drink white wine this time of year, but I live near Key West and eat a lot of fish, lobster and crab that I catch. Not a big chard fan. I prefer sauvignon blanc.

  • QOTD: Not often, but sometimes. More Semillon-type, bigger mouthfeel whites when I do.

  • Anonymous

    I have a dream,
that one day wines will not be judged by the color of their, er, wine
but by the content of their sniffy sniff and ‘whirl’
    and maybe price tag

Great game, Jets are getting starched though, hence my watching the show as I’m watching the game17-0, hurts, Jets are making mistakes, unusual, Sanchez looks stressed out. Anyways before the game, thought the Jets would win a close game before the game, now, they need to put pressure on Brady…
Anyways on to the question, no I don’t drink much white wine this time a year, but I discovered Vouvray Chenin blanc recently and I’m liking it, not so much the south africa chenin blanc, but Vouvray is now on my list.

You’ve made me want to drink a little sauvignon tomorrow now, maybe I’ll have alittle Snacerre tomorrow or something. Clod weather is making me reach for those big reds from Spain these days but I will mix it up thx to your question, good food for the thought.

Good show as usual, wish we had a guy like you up in Montreal using wine we can get our hands on (there’s a couple people doing wine vidoe blogs but they’re not much fun to watch), I’m actually thinking of doing a similar show to yours but from an amateur standpoint as I’m many years behind you in terms of knowledge.

But I digress, good times as usual watching you, good luck on the game.

QOTD: Pretty much red(it’s cold in the dirty jerz) but I do drink a little more bubbly at this time of year. Picked up a few bottles of various Evening Land wines while at WL a few weeks ago. Glad you reviewed one of them. Am interested in trying some more Mexican wines.

Jets prediction : Pats 34 Jets 21 Hope I’m wrong. When the weather is cold and windy the scores are lower than my prediction. Maybe you’ll be right with your heartfelt 17-16 score, Jets Win!!

When I turned off the game to watch WLTV the Jets were struggling. Maybe they are doing better now. QOTD – I drink most of my white wine during the summer. Winter seems a better time for reds and port. Glad you are back this week. Thanks

  • Former Lurker dedicated to finally saying something. I loved this episode and I do drink whites this time of year but I’m pretty new to wine. This site actually helped me get into it so I must thank you for your advice and all you have done to help the curious dabbler to understand and learn to love wine.

  • Don Simpson

I don’t know what it is, but I am just NOT a fan of Chardonnay.

QOTD: Although I definitely drank more red wine this time of year, I’ve been drinking gewurtztraminer, riesling, and especially a lot of sparkling wine recently. I’m getting married in June 2011 so I’ve been searching for delicious pairings and good QPR. This weekend I found an AWESOME Cremant de Limoux that we’re going to serve at the wedding. Great complexity and it really tastes like Champagne. Super excited about it!

  • Randall

I love Sauternes. And other white and rose dessert wines as well. You are so right about the price. Keeps me away like a lie detector machine keeps away a politician…
    🙂
Do you have a favorite producer?

  • Anonymous

Hey Gary, really fun show as usual!QOTD: I’ll drink reds and whites anytime of the year, but this year I’ve spent most of my time with whites. And now I’ve just switched back to reds.Cheers!

  • QOTD: Definitely. I’m a white wine drinker all year round.

    Hey!

  • Another year-round white fan here! I’m on a sauvignon blanc kick right now, trying them from wherever I can. NZ is winning out (Oyster Bay, Nobilo) at the moment as my fave.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Great way to come back! Always dig the brown bags. I have eyed Chalone the last few times I’ve been in the store and have been curious. Glad to see a good review.

QOTD: This is my first holiday season drinking wine, but white wine has become a staple for me. If it gets too cold outside, I’ll drink it at room temperature….like someone else I know…lol.

QOTD (b): Hey! Tell Phil thanks for getting back to me.

PS – it’s not looking good for the Jets. Although they are making Brady uncomfortable toward the end of the half. Hoping for a come back.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Might need to reverse those teams..24-3 right now. 🙂

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    YOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Where’s my favorite Wino??.

  • Love the brown bags! and I’m not a big chard drinker only in Champagne.

QOTD: I’ve been exploring white Italian wines…Gavi & Insolia but I would rather drink red any day especially when it gets colder out.

    Hope the Jets do well!

  • Anonymous

Definitely drinking white right now! There’s never a bad time to drink riesling, geverts, gruvee, or the pinots!

  • Anonymous

Love the brown bags always! Can’t wait for barolo!

I drink plenty of whites during the winter, just as I drink plenty of reds during the summer. Seasons don’t really affect my drinking patterns. With that said, I tend to prefer heavier, fuller, richer whites, so it makes sense that they would work well in the winter too.

  • Hey. Whites are good year round as long as their cheap or I can steal them from my parents wine cabinet. Dollars are always a factor when when you roll with the CKC! Good episode GV.

  • I like your style Bassman!

  • NY Pete
