Good to be introduced to a new region but episode a bit short to get too pumped about.

Oh Saint Chinian, you have offered up so many unique smells and flavours to me over the years…

QOTD: Musar Blanc 99, paired with meat and oil fondue. Obaideh makes wine nerds froth at the mouth.

  • Fast paced… the board changed!

QOTD: Nothing. Also, I have not had a nerdy wine in a while. Almost a strike out today.

Quack Quack… Let’s go Ducks. Douse the Flames!

  • QOTD: Nothing about St Chinian, and the nerdiest wine has been the Duboeuf 2009 Beaujolais. Will search for St Chinian and give it a try.

  • Not a brown-bagger but still looks promising … now to watch

  • first time learnin about St. Chinian today. One of the reasons I like shows like today.

  • Will watch later. Too busy crushing it.

Where’s the Jets score prediction? Gary must be ‘jet-lagged’. QOTD: 1983 Leoville Las Cases. Enjoy the Weekend!

  • ALLAN

Heyyy it’s friday, and the thunder just hit the coast…!

  • Anonymous

nerdiest wine for me is definitely this: Frank Cornelissen Etna Contadino 7

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Nada, and no nerdy wines of late, I’m afraid.

Thanks for taping shows to keep us occupied in your absence! Hope you’re enjoying Paris, LeWeb, and the snowstorm!

  • St. Chinian? I had one a little while ago…2008 Maison L’Aiglon Saint-Chinian Grand Reserve. I actually enjoyed it…my wife did as well, if I recall.

QOTD: Haven’t had that much more nerdy wine than the average commenter. My wife picked up a 2006 Baumard Savennieres…has anyone had it?

  • Globex

hey Gary thanks for introducing these two wines to me. Made my mouth water, now craving a Chicago style braut with a glass of that Le Grange. Both sound like good values, which is important to me… I gotta feel like I just got a deal or I’ll simply wait for the market to come to me because there’s always a great value out there!

QOTD: I recently had a 2007 Cabernet Sauv blend from Ridge Vineyards which I think is located in the Silicon Valley.

QOTD: It may not be very typical wine, but I have been drinking some glühwein like it is going out of style. For anyone that doesn’t know what it is, like me a couple months ago, glühwein is a red wine with other spices and sugar added garnished with an orange wedge or something and served hot. It is great to drink outside while exploring the Christmas markets.

    Prost!

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, SHOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!

Super stuff, bringing the thunder around the right (& rather unknown) places, YEEEHAAWWWW!!!!!! I Love It! One of the tightest shows of all time. But high on info, so it rocked!

The things you do for us GV……! (*considering this was taped last week*) THNX.

Qotd: Not too mucho, and I’m happy for it, will explore.
Qotd2: Niepoort Vintage Port 2000, EXXXXXTREMELY FOCUSED wine, one of my favourite bottles of the year. And it’s just ready.

    Cheers! :oP

  • Nice, tight show.
QOTD: Recently found a bottle of “Languedoc Blanc” (probably made up by the producer) made by a winery called “Bouchelle”. The vintage was 2001, and it had just been bottled after the winery forgot about a few barrels of this white they had made 9 years ago. Natural, unfiltered, with some serious sediment, cloudy as hell and a honeycomb thing that just wouldn’t let your palate go.
    It outnerded me.

  • ALLAN

This was taped last week, dude. Cheers!

  • St Chinian is little known? Really????

How about the rest of the shows in 2010 wearing that shirt?!?!

    BRING THE THUNDER!

Never heard of it. Love me some Rhones though.
I had a Cali Barbera the other night that was yumbo!

QOTD: Don’t think I’ve had a Saint Chinian wine. However we had a nice class session on Southern France in advanced wine tasting class. We enjoyed a Minervois La Liviniere (spell?) wine and we drank a premium Bandol wine. We also had a Corbieres red and a Banyuls and a provence rose and a Cahors malbec. Ok so know that I listed these out of order.

Not nerdy but I had a decent Valpolicella Ripasso this week. Liked it.

Is it true that Southern France makes more wine than all of CA?

QOTD: i know nothing, and uh. for nerdiest wine lately i’m going to say a baco noir I had at henry of pelham winery, because nothing else thats good is coming to mind!

  • Anonymous

Great show, Gary. Thanks for keeping them coming.

QOTD: Clarendon Hills Grenache. Maybe not nerdy, but I haven’t had much straight Grenache, and never from Australia, so it was educational as well as intoxicating. Loved it.

  • ALLAN

    YUUUUUUUUMMMMBOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

    Cheers C

  • ALLAN

Well not if you know, then it isn’t..

  • Randall

    QOTD: Never had it.
    Nothing too nerdy lately…

  • NY Pete

    ho ho

  • Anonymous

Never had St. Chinian. . . nerdiest recently was a Rkatsiteli from Finger Lakes.

  • QOTD: Nerdiest recently was a Romorantin from the Loire… I don’t usually like oxidative whites, but in this case it was really well integrated.

  • Randall

    …ho.

    <l:)

  • DrewM

Solid show about an AOC I knew nothing about. Thanks.

QOTD: about 3 weeks ago…a Spanish wine from the Utiel-Requena DO…made primarily from the Bobal grape. Very pleasant surprise at a value price.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I knew absolutely nothing about St. Chinian until this episode, so once again, GV you’re opening my eyes to new parts of the wine world. Nerdiest wine I’ve had lately would probably have to be a Greek red that I tried made of 100% Agiorgitiko (don’t ask me how to pronounce it).

  • Anonymous

QOTD: The nerdiest wine I’ve had lately was either the 2005 Bartlett Blueberry Winemaker’s Reserve, or the 1981 Chateau Musar Rouge

  • Apellations in the languedoc, lots and very different. Pic St Luc for flinty ones, Minervois for lush cheap thrills, Costières de Nimes for fruuuiiityyyy, Maury for high alcohol and just tremendous red for chocolate lovers… so much wine, so little money..
Short show, to the point and not lazy!!!

QOTD: Nerdiest wine? Don’t know actually. Had a Minervois Rosé, a Puychéric Sauvignon, a Hochheimer Hölle Riesling, a Zeltingen Mosel Rielsing, a VdP d’Oc Merlot, a Canadian Riesling Ice wine, a swedish chocolate porter…oh that’s not a wine sorry 😉

  • mmm Bandol Banyul, Maury….

  • the snow storm, right?

  • Anonymous

All about St. Chinian ,love ’em.

qotd; At a wine tasting last week they had a Zweigelt, that’s as nerdy as got.

  • Wow. Great to see you look at Saint-Chinian.
QOTD It’s beautiful. Full of charming small villages and stunning
    landscapes.
Roquebrun there is one of the most beautiful villages of France and is called
the little Nice of the Languedoc.Type it into google images…
Pefect place for a summer holiday.
Yannick Pelletier makes some great wines.
Last, any wine in the U.S from this area in 2007 is more than likely really worth a look.

  • hey hey

  • Anonymous

Wow, that’s some nerdy wine. I got some Russian Chocolate last night that I may try tonight with some Rhone red. What do you know about Russian chocolate?

  • Anonymous

How much was the bottle? I hear they got bought by Gallo.?

  • Anonymous

Back at cha.. Have a good weekend!

  • Anonymous

QOTD — alas, nothing ‘nerdy’ recently

  • Anonymous

    Love the lesson today.
QOTD: Never heard or tasted from St. Chinian
NERD: Not very ‘nerdy’ but had Norman Crescendo last weekend. A Meritage that included Cab Franc and Petite Verdot grabbed my attention and did not disappoint.

  • Anonymous

Have only had one wine ever from there. The train goes through there I believe and that is about it for me. The nerdiest wine lately is the Orin Swift Abstract.

  • Nice, nice show. Quick and dirty. Since wine #2 is “breaking the rules” I want some of it.

QOTD: Alas, I must say, nada. Love the southern French wines so may have had some but don’t remember it.

NERD: I had a Greek red varietal Agiorgitiko the other night before a Caps game that was yummy. We need a Greek show soon.

    Cheers!

P.S. Colts won, finally. Still in the hunt. Defense sucks.

  • Wow. I got nothin’. Have a good weekend everyone.
