Not you, G. Dr. Edwardo… who used to always log in and post very negative comments. Lately he’s been saying fairly positive things and I’m certain that we ALL want him to keep it up…

QOTD; Some Cava. 05. The winery had a woman’s name, I think. Yellow label. Sorry about these poor details, but it was just so-so.

Credit to Gary V. though, for expanding my wine horizon.

  • John__J

yep that’s the grape. It was more tannic than I expected. But I was happy with it for the price which was pretty cheap. I ordered a case for my wine list and got a bottle for myself to lay down and see how it is in a couple of years. I was lucky that one of the small distributor’s I use just got a new portfolio from an importer.
I live in Maryland and you gotta really search to find oddball stuff which is what I constantly look for. That same distributor also picked up a passetoutgrains from Burgundy, which is a pinot noir-gamay blend, which is also cheap, and probably not real high quality, and something I really wanna try since I’ve never had one before.

I would suggest making a trip out to the Verde Valley in AZ to visit those tasting rooms!

  • Stupid Disqus. I was trying to answer Allan in another post and it plopped it up here.

But thanks for the fun thought! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Anonymous

I really should. Perhaps next year before harvest starts.

  • Welcome to the SF Bay Area!

  • You betcha! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • disqus error again.. tried to reply to Melba. I give up.. Just had a lousy bottle of zin and now this. Sigh.

  • Randall

    m2’s 2008 ‘Old Vine Zin’, Lisa… It’s not at all lousy…
    ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Randall

    Agree…

  • Randall

Whatevuh. See my misplaced (by disgust) post…

  • Randall

Just don’t feed him any vino after midnight…

  • I’ll try it. Thx. My palate must be changing.. no more jammy zins for moi. The last two from Paso Robles were “overripe” to say the least.

  • Randall

This wine is NOT a jammy Zin. It IS the ‘total packge’, however. I think you’ll love it. My friend (the fellow judge) and also Harrison Ford (don’t ask) loved it and also bought it… It’s over $20 and worth every penny. Good to see I’m not the only one getting in late… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Randall

    Ha ha. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Randall

Like kicking yo… Nevermind. Not worth it…
    ๐Ÿ™ Aholefan…

  • Randall

But then I wouldn’t be conversing with awesome and interesting people such as youself…

  • ALLAN

Disqus is Disgustful for my palate… tastes a bit like overhyped internet marketing… BURB*!

    That’s all I got. ;P

  • Never heard about it. I guess things do improve with time. Will ask my dad if he has any contacts left i Russia that could send samples.

  • I dont know what you guys are talking about I have had problems once and that was a big error on D part, but other then that I never have problems. Wonder what you guys are doing wrong? Usinge mobile connections? I have a land line 100 mbit. Using IE? Firefox and Chorme never fail. Having Vista as a opsys , bad mistake on my part too.
Remember you must show the machine some love and believe in it for it to work to ๐Ÿ˜€

  • ALLAN

I don’t have any problems, I just like to join the angry mob….. :OP

  • Randall

I am about ready to go to chrome or ANYTHING other than IE…

  • Randall

consider this reply a “like”, Allan, since my “like” button doesn’t work anymore…

I know this has nothing to do with GV’s show posted above, but I have a question that I would love some advice on. I purchased a 1983 Gaja Barbaresco to drink on the day I graduate from Law School. I know 1983 was not a good year in Piedmont, however, I have been told that this specific bottle/vintage is drinking nicely right now. That being said, I would love to know if I should Decant it in the bottle or in a decanter and for how long? Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. Great show as always Gary!

  • ALLAN

I wouldn’t decant it, because it’s “rather” old & I think the fruit will dissapear real quick if you let it sit in the decanter for long. Cross you fingers and hope for the best….. it will probably blow your mind, hopefully, ENJOY! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Non-Alcoholic Wine show

I could not find any episode describing non-alcoholic wines? Would this be a total waste of time?

    Thanks

  • Anonymous

Allan, thank you for your response. I graduate in May, I hope it makes it until then. The man I purchased it from actually just had a bottle with Gaia Gaja, he said they both loved it and it was drinking nicely. However that was almost a month ago now and I hope things wont change drastically from then until May. Thanks again.

  • ALLAN

Oh by the way… The gentlest of touches must be applied to the cork, when pulling. A couple of years ago i enjoyed a 1979 Barolo Brunate from Ceretto and the cork went in like a million pieces, so I had to use a filter to get it out of the bottle, but it was really quite spectacular. Gaja is a great producer, and remember, great producers make good wines in lesser years as well. I hope it all works out for ya.

  • ALLAN

    I’m affraid so.

  • ALLAN

    A quick Q:

    Disqus = ?

  • Anonymous

    No idea what that is…

Domaine La Grange de Quatre Sous is made by a she, not a he… And, worth mentioning is made with syrah and malbec, which is pretty strange in the Languedoc. My favorite St. Chinians would be Borie la Vitarele’s les schistes and les cres.
For nerdiness try Grange de Quatre Sous’s whites…

Go with the firefox! Not near as many issues!

  • I appreciate the effort. ๐Ÿ™‚ *psssst…your still talking to him?* ๐Ÿ˜›

QOTD: I’m terrible with names, people or wine, but my francophile wine selling friend of mine recently got a red blend from somewhere in France (also bad with geography) and it was one of the best wines I’ve had in years. It smelled like moldy cheese and hay, and tasted like I was drinking tanic lemon juice. It was just fantastic, unfortunately she said I probably couldn’t get it anywhere around where I am now (Portland) cause she got it on a recent trip to France.

  • Ian

    huh?

  • Anonymous

    Ineptitude!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

Congratulations on your Graduating Law School! Just what we need is another lawyer or are you going to be a politician? By the way the Barbaresco sounds like it will be great! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Ian

I don’t know if it’d be worth doing since I’ve never had any my self, but it certainly would be something different

Drank a lot of Costiรจres de Nรฎmes in septembre when I was in southern France. It is now considered in the Rhรดne valley but used to be labelled as Languedoc-Rousillon. When have some here in Mtl and its dirt cheap but very good. Chateau de Nages and Chateau Campuget are worth looking into for a good value red white and even rosรฉ.
FYI used to hate rosรฉ because of the sweet zinfandel based Ernest & Julio, but rosรฉ from southern France is great, very dry and worth looking into.

Have not heard of St. Chinian but will def seek it out. Love the Languedoc wines for their value. Haven’t had too many nerdy wines lately, I need to step it up.

  • Anonymous

I have never heard of St. Chinian. I have had some interesting wines lately. I had a dolcetto from California last night. And a sparkling torrontes last week. Both were very good.

100mbps connection! Jealous I am. Where do you live to have access to that? I’m on a 24mbps and that’s about as fast as I can get here.

Good advice on treating your machine right. I think disqus is a little buggy though. It works great on all of my machines, but I’m also a geek and keep my systems tip top. Most people are running generic pre built systems loaded with tons of useless software, fragmented disks, and out of date everything. It doesn’t surprise me that disqus doesn’t run great on a lot of systems.

anything is better than IE. I prefer chrome because of it’s sleek, minimal UI, and excellent overall speeds in all of the imortant browser catagories. It’s method of sandboxing windows is also super secure.

Firefox is certainly the most feature rich browser, but its architecture is starting to show it’s age. Chrome, opera and safari outpace it by a good margin in browsing speed. Unless the next version offers serious improvements, I think it can be shelved with IE.

  • Wow lovely episode it was, i could not see the whole episode, seen as far as I liked it.

Saw the jets game G. Ugly. What was that guy thinking tripping a player on the field? D’oh! I doubt he realized what a shit-storm would ensue.

Hope you still feel like tasting wine this week G.

BTW, for anyone who remembers the 08 Villa des Anges Cab that was so popular, the 09 is out and it’s every bit as good as the 08 (IMO). For $10 or less it’s a flat steal.

Nice website. Though I prefer to buy my spam at wal-mart. So take your’s elsewhere. This is not free add space.

    I really enjoyed this one!

QOTD2. Wild Grape from South Dakota. This is incredible!!!! Gary, you should try this one in a blind tasting. You’ll never ever think it’s an New World wine.
