I’m sad that others are having similar problems with Disqus. I was hoping someone would have figured it all out and would tell me what to do.

  • Randall

Maybe you didn’t scroll far enough back. Mott said that you have to stop using Microsoft Internet Explorer and switch to Chrome or Firefox to surf the net with. I did and my issues have vanished. mattgmann gave some good input and so have others. Good luck, RobinC…

Piave Cabernet Sauvignon Camul 2006 Barrique
    Love you Gary!

  • Angelo

Does anyone know the truth behind tainted wine?
why does wine sometimes taste corked and its’ cause ?
Has any of you ever pushed the cork in the bottle because there were no corkscrews in sight ?

  • Chopingman

Just scrolled down to look at the comments. Gary, I’m shocked that you are getting so much crap about about not grinding out a show everyday. Do what you got to do man. Keep everybody in suspense. Don’t do bit’ness that don’t make you smile! Quality not quantity my man!
    xxoo

  • The nerdiest wine I had lately was the 2007 COS Frappato from Sicily at Terroir in San Francisco… I’d like to see an episode on Frappato, just the smell alone was worth the bottle price!

QOTD: DOMAINE DES BAUMARD CLOS SAINT-YVES SAVENNIÈRES 2006
OK – so stretching the palate, bought this for dinner with friends. First point- bottled under Stelvin – so we know it isn’t corked. But it definitely has way less fruit than I was expecting from a Loire Chenin Blanc. It was the first wine to remind me of Gary licking rocks. As my first experiment with a Savennières white wine – I don’t know what to expect. Nerdy – maybe, should I give it another test ? Perhaps I should just work through a few more Vouvray’ to give Chenin Blanc another chance.

That son of a jackwagon is lost in France or some other foreign state

    Good idea! 🙂

This is completely normal impression since Savennière is not so fruity, especially in its youth. This should age at least an extra 5 years. I actually found it last week quite fruity for that kind of Chenin. Vouvray and Montlouis are supposed to bring more fruit, Saumur being more powerful. That being said, it will depend on the producer… if you taste a Clos Rougeard Brézé (one of the very best Chenin and French wine, in Saumur), you will never ever guess it is from Loire and 100% Chenin. Maybe you could also try an Insolite 2008 (but not 2009) by Thierry Germain?

Just kidding, I hope you have an awesome time in France!

Gary!-Just recently tried a Connecticut grown Cabernet Franc from Hopkins Vineyard. If you love the green, herbaceous wines you gotta try it for $20. It was delicious! and very surprising

Having read the desperate ramblings of some of the spoon fed Vayniacs who are desperately Jonesing for their latest GV fix, I feel compelled to comment. In general it is my assumption we are here to do 3 things. One, we are here to be taught something about wine, two, we are here to be entertained, and three, we are here to learn about ourselves (our palates and our preferences). Gary provides the first and the second. Only we can provide the 3rd. So to Karrens and others who are missing the maestro so badly, I have a suggestion. Scroll thru the past episodes, find half a dozen wines you haven’t tried. Go to a winestore, find one or two of the wines. Pull and Pour and taste – make notes. Wait an hour, taste again and make notes. Then and only then, watch and listen to the appropriate episode and compare what you have learned about the wine and your palate with GV’s opinions. Post your tasting notes in the comments of the episode – we can turn this place into a video Cellar Tracker! Aaannnnnnd, that way, you’ll get a brand new episode to watch or at the very least you’ll be watching the episode with brand new eyes.

    My rant is done.

On to the QOTD: Wines made from the Mencia grape – Bierzo region of Spain.
    Pin-ache-yrah, to my palate.

Last thought, it’s time for a POTD – yes a “Pool of the Day” – A ‘date for the 1000 episode’ pool to be precise. Winner gets to cohost!
I’ve got March 9, 2011. ( I considered the symetry of Feb 21, 2011 but don’t think our illustrious host can manage that many shows in that short a time. Not a shot, just a fact!)

Hi Gary i was hoping to get contact you in regards to a Quirky submission i had made for the “Game changing idea” i really tried to take on board everything you said and tried to create the ultimate gadget… yet when they found out it was pushing the cork in the Design got slashed / i was under the impression that the chief cause of cork taint is the presence of 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA) in the wine. and the wine had to stay in contact with the cork to keep it moist and swelled … just as an informative point of view why is the idea so atrocious .. All the best Angelo 🙂

This is new? Honestly, I am more “addicted” to commenting than I am watching now. That being said, if the internet suddenly imploded on itself I would be laughing, regardless of the chaos it would cause.

The anonymity of the internet brings out the bastard in all of us from time to time. And some people who comment are just bastards.

    Good Sir Jeremy,

In your pleasant yet firm style of dictum I beseech you. Many of us in this joyous season of celebration have heeded your words, and although I do not have a quaffable beverage that contains alcohol at the current moment I raise my glass to you sir. I say only in jest, the deleted expletives that spew forth from my uproarious word hole. I wish no ill will toward my fellow Vayniacs, regardless of the pompous and callous nature of those who post on this hallowed forum. I herby decree that all of those who post, whether they be filled with douchbaggery or kindness that warms the cockles of my heart, should have the merriest of holidays with whom they chose to be acquainted with. Lord Gary?s influence shall rain true on the tongues and minds of us all, and all shall be united by the power, grace and fruitfulness of the vine that we all hold in such high esteem. For we are all united by one beverage, and regardless of our current pseudo behavior and antiquated postings we all are aware of what truly matters; family, friends, wine and life. PROST TO ALL from the deepest corners of my blood valve chamber.

    Maestro Cellarrat,

No disposable income? I thought that’s what credit cards were for! Oh no, this has a nasty chance of morphing off into a treatise on the plight of the global economy in the 21st century world….

And as for the phantasmagorical pallets (your spelling above) – should I infer that you love cedar flavours and oak monsters? ….I just couldn’t resist!

  • ALLAN

    NO!!! Grrrrrrrrrr….!!!:P

  • ALLAN

To be or not to be, that’s the question…… GV?

    :O

  • Anonymous

It is quite alright, I know it is hard for you to resist. And my spelling is correct, I double checked it. Regarding my pallet, you infer incorrectly. As for credit cards, I try and use them as little as possible. I believe credit cards have an icy grip of death on many people?s personal spending habits. Although apparently many people on this site do not worry about such things, which is good for them I suppose.

I pounded the cork into a bottle of Mateus back in the day and the bottle broke and a chard cut off a little piece of my toe.
