  • I love wines from southern France. Nice guess on the CdP!! More Brown bags-they’re fun!

QOTD: White Christmas w/Bing & Danny Kaye. But I love to watch Elf with my son-watching both have become a family tradition!

    Merry Christmas!

  • QOTD: Charlie Brown Christmas.

nice roundup G. I recently had a vin de pay from Domaine Janasse that was pretty outstanding for ~$15. I can’t remember the specifics though.

    qotd: Die Hard 2

  • Anonymous

DUDE! I just submitted the die hard movies as my Christmas favs only to scroll down and find out I’m not alone. When I started dating my girlfriend she though I was out of my mind adding Die Hard to the holiday movie cue. A few years later and it’s a household tradition.

QOTD: A Christmas Story —The leg lamp scene brings a smile to my face just thinking of it.

You sold me on the St. Cosme Cotes Du Rhone Blanc

QOTD: “A Christmas Story”, HOWEVER, since I’ve seen in 150+ times I’m very much looking forward to refreshing my palate with Bill Murray in “Scrooged”

GARY – Gotta do a N. Rhone white brown bag show, and YOU MUST have this wine on – 2008 Etienne Pochon Crozes-Hermitage Blanc – one of the best QPR’s out there in my humble opinion.

Happy Holiday’s everyone and Happy New Year’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    CHEERS 🙂

Die Hard is such a great call for Christmas. Gotta work that in to the lineup!

I know I know!!! : Slight short circuit in the brain there. 🙂
Anyway, I was working in base 20 – when did everyone start using base 10???

Never mind, it must be the time of the year, everyone’s brain gets a bit
frazzled after all the xmas shopping, work parties etc.

Great episode, southern French whites are one of those sure-fire wines for the adventurous palate. Often it is difficult to even figure out what is in these wines. I remember talking to a producer who claimed the varieties listed on the label were “his best guess” at the field blend aka sh#t mix of vines behind his house.

QOTD: The Family Man for a classic story and Tea Leoni, and Elf for cheap laughs.

  • NJ Big Chris

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story

    Merry Christmas! Shitter Was Full!

With “Dark Side Of The Moon”?

  • QOTD: 2 movies basically, DIE HARD because it’s bombastic and a bit over the top, but great..
The second is TRADING PLACES, not sure it’s called this way, in Italy is called UNA POLTRONA PER DUE (which means armchair for two), which is more an old world play..

To me is not Christmas if on TV there are not these movies..

Happy Christmas Gary to you, your family and all WL staff!!

Next time I say “let’s go some place like Bolivia”, let’s GO some place like Bolivia.
Would Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid qualify as a holiday movie? Screw it, I’m watching it again anyway!
Oh, and did anyone mention Finger Lakes. That’s NY state I think?

QOTD: Have to go new school. I could watch Elf every day and be perfectly happy.

  • Good job, GV! I’ve been a fan of St Cosme for a while. Incredible values, especially their Cotes-du-Rhone’s, both reds and whites. I’ve written about them recently on my Iron Chevsky blog – the red was really great with Caribbean cuisine, of all things! Had it in a magnum, and for $30 it was great fun!

Thanks! Even if all 4 commercial vineyards in the entire country only make wine from a combined total of 25 acres, that’s still 25 acres more than I had previously thought. Live and learn… 🙂

  • QOTD: Christmas Story

Another great blind tasting episode. Keep ’em coming!

  • Randall

    🙂

Correct. That and Long Island are the two main NY areas for wine production as far as I know. I think that the best quality wines coming from those regions are mostly whites from the Finger Lakes and mostly merlot (and some whites) from Long Island. Then again, I’m in Northern California and am not overly familiar with NY wines, except what I’ve mentioned. I’ve had several wines from both regions and felt that NY wines are getting better as the years go by…

Just the first of a long line of bad action/fake drama movies imo.

QoTD: The Leprechauns’ Christmas Gold! I also love Rudolph.

I had my first white Chateauneuf du Pape this week (2007 Vieux Telegraphe “La Crau”) and was really impressed.

I think I’ve seen the St. Cosme Cotes du Rhone Blanc at one of my LWS, so I may have to pick some up next time I’m there if they actually have the 2009 yet.

  • 🙂

  • Anonymous

Yeah, I miss the 90s too. They don’t make ridiculous, over the top action flicks like they used to!

  • I had the same thought, did he feel the bottle design for the pape

Christmas Vacation! So many classic moments in that movie.

  • Anonymous

Haven’t had the Cosme in a while and would love to get it again. I do like Vieux Telegraphe Blanc but it’s not cheap. My favorite holiday movie, Naked Gun because Leslie Nielsen just died and I will spend my holidays watching Leslie Nielsen movies.

Did i hear Mott say he hasn’t seen the Wizard of Oz? Odd…..

Once tried the Chateau St. Cosme Red on a reccomendation.. fairly good Syrah.

    QOTD… Charlie Brown Christmas!!

JimmyK here – on vacation so I’m a little late to this one. Thanks for the shout out and sorry the the Pic St. Loup was less then good. Love your honesty with the review though. I think I tagged this one to my wish list when you got it in, reluctant to buy as I didn’t know the wine and wasn’t enthralled with the producer’s reds. Love me some Pic St. Loup though. Guess I’m glad I waited, time to take it off the wish list.

QOTD – no movie, Christams doesn’t seem complete without hearing David Sedaris’ Macy Elf story. (On NPR twice today)

Stay warm over the weekend and hope your sales kick butt next week.

  • Over $50? Damn! Way outta my league, but I have purchased a MegaMillions ticket for tonight…ya never know!

Have you tried Robert’s Shiraz “The Formula” 2005? 12 bucks…they had it as a free shipping item last week…I picked up 8 bottles. I love this wine! Worth a shot for you, but I’m playing Single A ball to your Major League 🙂

winepupil – here’s a few, rich, deep fruit, under 20; Bodega Weinert Carrascalhttp://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1046949
    (Arg. – Cab/Mer/ Mal).
Much of the stable of Jorge Ordonez selections (Spain), including Finca Luzon, Juan Gill, even the very modest Borsao wines are huge sellers. Cause they deliver fill & spill, gulpable goodness.
House Red, from Washington state, was fruit bomb winemaker-in-chief, charles smith’s own thing, and I dug it. He’s now sold that to Precept, so that it can grow huge now. just over $10.
And talk to your wine shop/dept. personnel about Zin’s just below $20., and aussie Grenache around the same level. w/ these kind of wines, really try to get out of that $10-13 ‘fighting varietal tier – they’re all kind of fighting to be the cheaper wine, and deliver (mostly, not), accordingly.
    Cheers! Happy Holidays!

Did you check with my main man Gary V…?? He’s the Guru of wine so he would know a great $20 bottle and a bad $800 bottle for that matter….lol

Like I said on my show…he knows everything about everything!!!!

  • Love to see wines in my price range steal the show!
