    i was cheering for the jets during the colts game because i hate anything named manning. however, the pats/jets game will be different. it won’t be pretty, and it won’t be nice. the pats are going to slap the jets another loss, and send them home. the biggest loser of all time is rex (insert expletive here) ryan. if he could only keep his mouth shut, maybe more people would like him. but he can’t and so they don’t. nonetheless, good luck to you and your green team, and better luck next year. final score 34-24 new england.

    qotd: Going back to a standard because of a cheese I discovered recently and have been consuming voraciously. Port and blue cheese. My current favorite dessert. I’ve been hooked on a particular Irish blue cheese that is super grassy and buttery.

    Dry riesling and x.o. gouda deserves a mention too. Or Cremant d’alsace with the same aged gouda.

    I missed GV’s rating on the New York Malmsey Madeira. I am very thankful he advocated both this and the sherries, which are among the last truly great wine bargains in the world. While I can’t offer a wine and cheese pairing, I have had PX sherry with creme brulee, and that was truly special.

    Thank you for picking the Madeira to review. I appreciate really it! Back when I smoked a pipe, I rarely smoked ‘english blends’ but loved them when drinking the sweeter madeiras.

    Thanks for touching on 2 wines that are so under the radar that it’s not funny. For a wine that can age as well as Port, vintage Madeira can still be found for reasonable prices. I’m talking mid to late 19th century bottles. DÒliveiras is fantastic! I’ll be looking for a bottle Rare Wine Co.

    QOTD: as someone that can’t stomach a lot of crazy cheeses, I like just port wine cheese and a good Shiraz. Nothing child. Goat cheese however is to die for. I’m sure there are various styles, but I don’t know a damn thing about it.

  • First off, thank you for coming back. The Vayniacs were getting a tad antsy on your sabbatical. I have watched and known you for what, almost five years now and you bring a smile to my face after each and every show. No hard feelings. All of my other peeps who rave about their Ravens, etc. I don’t talk to for at least a year. 🙂

    Thanks for the shoutout and glad to hear your “phone had died” since my son came with me and I was talking the entire time about the chance of meeting you. Either way, congrats on your victory (he did push off but who cares, the game was lost prior to that play) and please, please beat The Cheats.

    Good show though not a huge fan of the high alcohol but will need to try the Maimsey. Come to think of it, I need some high alcohol content to drown away my sorrows. 🙂

    QOTD: I would say these are my two favorite in both categories (cheese/wine) would be Brie with Champagne. It doesn’t get much better than that.
