    Gary,
We have a had several Torrontes and what is more amazing is that in PA they were only $7 or $8. The nose is always the best part of the wine!

Now to the more important QOTD: STEELERS – 34 jets- 17! Sorry Gary. Hey I invited you on facebook and I’ll invite you here. My husband and I would love to take you to a few wine bars in the city. They may not be New York but we have some nice places. We’ll Treat!

  • Randall

I actually had Torrontes w/ fish tacos about two or three weeks ago. Really tasty.
And I like it with sushi. Also SB goes great with lots of sushi…

QOTD Jets 21 Steelers 20. I will see your Jets in the Super Bowl as my Green Bay Packers roll over Chicago 17-10.
    Yea, I’ve had Torrontes

  • QOTD1: ? I don’t follow football that closely, but I did get excited when I saw the Jets’ victory in the paper this morning! I always like an upset.
QOTD2: It’s funny, one of my friends suggested the Crios de Susana Balbo (Torrontes) from Argentina while we were in our local Colorado wine shop and it’s sitting in my wine cabinet right now just waiting for me! Glad to see you trying the grape on the show and can’t wait to taste it myself.

  • That was a great game yesterday, my Ducks beat Edmonton and I had a great burger!!!! What a day.

    QOTD: YES.

    SQOTD: Jets 28 – Steelers 24

  • DaveAll

Funny you should ask. We have been on a Torrontes Quest since going to the Wines of Argentina event on Manhattan a few months ago. Our latest stop was WL last Saturday where we picked up a bottle of the Altivo based on a staff recommendation. We totally agree with your review, big disappointment. The good news no big investment. Just hoping you still have some of the Tomero when I make it down there next.
BTW Jets 28, Steelers 13 – Dallas here we come!
Gary you are legit because I know WL’s got a couple cases of the Altivo and you were totally honest.

  • Matt

Great game yesterday, so happy they’ve won.

    QOTD: 21-17 JETS!!!
QOTD: Yes I had once, but didn’t show very well. Selection of Torrontes in Montreal is shy.

  • Alexandre-CF

    QOTD: 28 – 21 jets

QOTD 2 : yes, all the time. I just love torrontes.

  • Matt McCabe

Great historic revenge win on Sun.! –Gary, you’re making a football (JETS) fan out of someone who didn’t dig football at all! Next Sun. Jan. 23rd will be a monster nailbiter of a game, I do believe! QOTD ONE: J-E-T-S (ooh-woo-woo, woo-woo-woo!) 31 vs Steelers 28
QOTD TWO: Never had Torrontes but will seek it out. I like Argentinean and Chilean wines!!
g o Jets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take it easy gary!

  • Alexandre-CF

Crios torrontes is a GREAT wine. 09 just rules.

  • While I’m glad the Jets won yesterday, as a Pittsburgher, I predict a 31-21 win for the Black & Gold this weekend (sorry GV).

  • Congrats! for the Jets win. About the show, I loved it, I’m a big fan of Torrontes variety, I totally agree with you on the description, crisp, clean, floral, and also citric and a little crush rocks. and I have had the “Finca Sophenia Torrontes” and the “Etchart Torrontes” both from Mendoza, but I liked the etchart better… Go Jets! all the way to the super bowl !

I really like the ‘tasting/ investigating ‘ wine out of ‘it’s season’! That can show some range, some climate/ seaswonal influences, as well as some frailties, but does expose even a familiar grape in a new context. good palate exercise!
I can dig Torrontes – often fragrant similar to Gewurztraminer, esp. dry Alsatian style. It’s pleasant, light fare wine – you pretty much nailed it , not all that crazy excitable, but decent.

Qotd – Hope your Jets go for it all! Jets 14-, Steelers 9.

    QOTD: 17-12, steelers

    torrontes: yes.

Not a big torrontes fan. Mainly because it’s all from Argentina, and I’m really down on winemaking in Argentina. I know, hey’re upcoming this and that and super popular with all of the yuppy hipsters. Every Argentinian wine I’ve had, Torrontes included, taste fake, or extracted, generic, boring. I’ve had A LOT of Argentinian wine, so I’m speaking from some experience. I just can’t dig the general mass produced, uncreative, non stimulating wines coming out of Argentina. I don’t really dig how most of the wineries operate and are basically outlets for foreigners to have wine mass produced. (try any of “The Show” wines and you’ll see what I mean)

For cheap South American white, I’m gonna hit up Chilean Sauv blanc or Chard. (have had a few nice very Chilean Chards).

Lurker alert! lol. QOTD: Jets by 1. Torrontes;l Never, but will seek out. My Question of the Day! Did you shave!?!? That can’t be a good omen. I can’t believe you break it. What happened!?

  • QOTD: Jets 24-Steelers 17! Never had a Torrontes! BEARS JETS SUPER BOWL BABY! I’ll see you there Gary!

  • Don Simpson

QOTD: 12-11. It’s going to be a crazy low scoring game.

  • Grill Factor

Drink tons of the ‘2008 Bodega O. Fournier Torrontés Urban Uco’ – actually found it in Australia for bargain basement prices. Great nose…

QOTD – 2008 Notro Torrontes – light, fresh, nice acidity with a little citrus

GV… I’m coming out of hiding again…. My Saints lost recently and I’ve been sad but ever since Rex Ryan took over I’ve been a big fan of the J E T S Jets Jets Jets… Hope you guys take it home Packers look scary though you need a bears win… I don’t think they have the offense to go the distance in the long run see Super Bowl in 2007…
QOTD: Torrontes… IMG I’m been such a big fan of the varietal since before watching your show… it was actually the grape that got me into whites in the first place… I had had a few terrible Charonnays and hated white wine but then I had a Malbec and found a producer who also made Torrontes and tried it and loved it. I constantly get at least 1 Torrontes everytime I get a mixed case from the local wine store…
As I always I love what you do keep “keepin’ it real”

  • Congrats to the Jets, and yes Green Bay is looking scary.

QOTD: Yes, twice. Wanted to like more than I actually liked.

    Jets 24 Steelers 21

Usually I wish Gary would talk more wine and a little less Jets. But not now! Give us more Jets talk. What an awesome team!

  • QOTD: 36-17 Steelers, I’ve enjoyed Torrontes on numerous occasions very good deal and I love aromatic whites.

  • Yum!!!

  • QOTD: Jets 17- Steelers 21.

When GV is in a good mood, I’m in a good mood!

  • I had the La Yunta Torrontes that you tasted some time ago. Enjoyed very much.

  • QotD: Steelers 21, Jets 19

Yes, I have had Torrontes. I’m trying to expand my knowledge of white wine varietals. Next on my to-do list is Chenin Blanc.

  • Randall

Agree. They are an ok producer with me. I recently had this one:

    2007 La Yunta ?Tinto? ? Mendoza, Argentina ? 13.5%ABV
    (35% Cabernet Sauvignon / 35% Malbec / 16% Bonarda / 11% Syrah / 3% Torrontes)
Nice medium dark color. Decent legs.
Nose? Black cherry, some spiciness with a dark chocolate finish. Some oak, pepper, and deep plum undertones with a hint of sagebrush and alcohol at the end.
Taste? Aromas carry over nicely with chalk overtones added. Brighter cherry comes through with good balance. Deep fruit and subtle layers of spice are nice. There is a nice firm, oak flavor there as well. Bottle may have been very recently exposed to heat or ?cooked?, as the saying goes. Finish was not as long as I would?ve liked. A nice, versatile wine for many dishes, though, and priced right, so I?m glad I tried it. Screwcap bottle.

  • Anonymous

Yes. The Crios is outstanding. Steelers 24 Jets 17

  • QOTD: Yes. My go to Torrontes is La Yunta. The high acidity and $10 price point is the selling point for me.
